@jetsa: Yep! Honestly thanks for listening! Being a hormonal pregnant lady does not help the situation.
pomelo / 5469 posts
@marionberry: I'm sorry to hear this I would feel exactly the same as you in your situation. Have you spoken to your Dad about it? I would definitely let him know how you feel. I think with my parents, because we are so independent most of the time and like to do our own thing... they don't realise how much I care and appreciate their input. Is the move permanent? Maybe he didn't feel like he had much choice if he had to move for work. In a positive light, does this mean you might be able to consider any better opportunities for you and DH to move further afield now if they arise?
clementine / 818 posts
@marionberry: I'm sorry, I would be totally heartbroken if I were in that position, so I understand your frustration. Hopefully they are in a position where they can make a strong effort to come visit you guys frequently since you will have a baby.

@marionberry: to paraphrase @illumina "because we are so independent most of the time and like to do our own thing... they don't realise how much [we] care and appreciate their input." - what she said! Maybe talking to your dad about how you feel will help you to feel better - even if it doesn't necessarily change his decision.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@illumina: @mrsstormy: @evenstar982: They're not moving out of necessity, simply my father's need to climb higher in his organization (he's already a top dog at a fortune 500 company). I would understand more if it was something they needed to do to survive. I agree that he probably knows I am independent and don't "need" him, but at the same time he knows that my sister is not in that position. In fact she frequently runs to him for problems in her life and with this information is very distraught. I just don't think he prioritized family but chose career instead. I am planning on talking to him about how I feel even though I know it won't change his mind. He wasn't in our lives much as kids but I was hoping he'd be much more involved with my kids and it's just disappointing to know that he won't. Luckily @mrsstormy they should have the financial resources to fly back much more than we would have the ability to fly there. Thanks everyone for listening!
pomelo / 5469 posts
@marionberry: I think talking to him will definitely help. Because of my Dad's kind of work he and my Mum raised us a good distance away from any of their families with no support... they were very independent and happy to be that way and I think they assume I'll feel the same. Except I don't... I want them to be around and feature in LO's life as much as possible. I guess he maybe just hasn't thought about it like that and as you said, is focusing on his career.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@illumina: I think so too...in his conversation with me yesterday he didn't bring up once anything about missing the birth of his first grandchild or missing out on those moments. It won't change his mind, but maybe will help him to focus on those things in the future. Thanks!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: I'd be sad too. One of my biggest pushes for staying in our current town rather than moving was to be close to family, especially grandparents. Hopefully after you talk to him he will realize how important it is to you and make an effort to come home often, skype, etc.
Has anyone started using a pregnancy pillow?? All week I have not been able to get a good night sleep. I toss and turn, wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to bed for a good hour. This is so rare for me - usually I sleep through anything and get at least 9 hours of sleep every night. I'm a zombie and falling asleep on the couch after supper.
DH got me a body pillow and it helped a lot. I'm wondering if a snoogle would be even better. They're $$$ though and I noticed them a lot cheaper on Kijiji (basically Canada's version of craigs list). DH think it's weird to buy a 2nd hand pillow though. I think I will pick one up next time we are in the city because I can't imagine another 5 months of sh*tty sleep!
clementine / 818 posts
@char54: I'm using the boppy pregnancy pillow, I really like it, and I think it does help. I'm not a side sleeper and since using it I have gotten much better. The one I have has velcro for 3 different pieces so I don't always use the whole thing together but I always use the part for between my legs. I'm normally all for craigslist stuff, but I think I see your DH's point on the pillow, I have a bit of a bed bug fear!
So ladies who all has names picked out? We are NO WHERE near having a name, and I just keep reminding myself we have plenty of time, but everyone acts shocked that we don't have one, so it makes me nervous.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: I'd been having a really rough time being comfortable enough to sleep lately, but it seems to have gotten a little better. I think this may be because I've been so exhausted from work though. I'm trying to resist spending money on a snoogle but my have to break down and get one eventually.
@mrsstormy: We already have our name about 99% picked out. We knew the middle name for sure and the first name we had gone through about 4 choices but now that I'm calling our baby the name we picked it feels right. I think there's no rush though. Many people don't decide until the birth.

Off to my appt in 2 hours!!! So flippen excited/nervous!!! Will let you all know very soon if we are team blue or pink!!!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: @MrsStormy: Thanks ladies - I almost feel like buying one sooner rather than later so I get my $$ worth, lol.
@MrsStormy - We have our girl name 100% (Charlotte Catherine) and our boy name 99% (Laughlin/Lachlan - still debating the spelling - with Samuel as the middle name). Our parents/sisters know about Charlotte, but not about Catherine (both DH's mom and my mom are named Catherine so we want to surprise them). No one except my 3 sisters know about Laughlin since it's a tribute to my maiden name and we want to surprise my parents if it's a boy.
We definitely aren't telling anyone else IRL and if anyone asks us we just say we aren't decided. That will be my story right up until birth!!

@Mrs squirreld: Eeeep!! So excited!!! Can't wait to find out what you're having

@Mrs squirreld: YAY! Can't wait to find out!
@char54: Love those names! Both the girl and boy one and I love that you're doing something sentimental. We kind of are too.
Our name (with about 95% certainty) is Jackson Tennessee. I've always liked the name Jackson and Tennessee is where my husband is from.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: LOVE that name!!! When Reese Witherspoon named her baby boy Tennessee I thought that was the coolest name. Jackson is also one of my personal favorites. So many cute nicknames.

@char54: Ya I like Jax but DH swears he'll never call him that. I said I didn't care as long as I could still.

@Mrs squirreld: Good luck! Can't wait to hear!
@char54: That is how I felt about the pillow, the longer I use it the better! I actually found it for a pretty good price at Burlington Coat Factory though.
@char54: @marionberry: Love your names! I know even if we do decide on one we wont tell people... I'm sure we will find something

For those who missed my announcement .... It's a boy!!! We are thrilled! DH is over the moon

This thread has been busy overnight!
@Mrs squirreld: Congrats on your son! How exciting! I hope your anatomy scan went well... mine is this afternoon. We're not going to let on that we know she's a she just to make sure this tech thinks the same!
@MrsStormy: @marionberry: @char54: Your names sound great... I love hearing people's name ideas! We are almost certain we'll call her Rose, but still want to give it a while to try it out to make sure we are 100% happy and we don't think of something better. I guess we won't officially decide until she arrives. We are thinking Evelyn for her middle name. Rose Evelyn, I'm pretty happy with it I'm learning to take it with a pinch of salt these days, but whenever I mention it to most people I know they always have to make a comment about the name... why people can't just say "that's really nice" I will never understand!!
@char54: I'm going to have to look into a pillow soon-ish, I'm finding it hard to get comfortable and am suffering with leg cramps the last few nights. We have heaps of spare pillows so I'll try and fashion a snoogle out of those and if that doesn't work I'll see what's out there!

@Mrs squirreld: Wow! Look at that arm, it's amazing to see how developed they are at this stage. Aww is he sucking his thumb?
nectarine / 2522 posts
@illumina: it is amazing! It was so weird seeing everything... Like the 4 chambers of the heart! It looks like it here but he was moving around a bit so I don't know
apricot / 284 posts
@char54: I'm using a little 'wedge' pillow which I prop between my knees at night. Its also designed to use to prop up a bump when it gets big enough... there's no room in our bed for a Snoogle as well as DH though!
@Mrs squirreld: Congrats on your boy!! Was it you who's also going with woodland theme in the nursery? Does knowing he' a little man mean you'll go on any more of a masculine tangent with that now? Would be great to see/share more nursery pictures - I must post a couple soon, we painted a mural (birch trees) recently!
Amazing u/s picture too; my next appt is Monday so I'm excited to see how much our LO has grown.
I'm definitely feeling movement OUTSIDE now, on occasion which is kind of exciting-but-really-weird. DH even felt one kick this past weekend. I'm not conscious of when the baby turns around tho, but I do get these vague 'pains' when I assume s/he is trying to switch from one side to the other?
here's my 19 and 20 wk pics which I have been meaning to share all week (sorry if its huge)!
nectarine / 2522 posts
@evenstar982: you look great! yay for halfway!
Yep we are going with the woodlands theme and are definitely going more masculine now! I've been working on a inspiration board with pieces we have, have ordered or want to give me an idea of how its going to come together since we can't set it up properly til we have moved! Will try and post it up tomorrow! Can't wait to see your pics!
apricot / 284 posts
@Mrs squirreld: ooh yes, would love to see an inspiration board, I have one too, will try and post it later with a couple of pics of our in-progress nursery.
I have officially started making baby-purchases this week; just ordered some onesies, a "baby nest" which can be used in a stroller or carseat, and some storage boxes for the nursery, I also ordered my curtain fabric a few weeks back and just waiting for it to arrive from Spoonflower.com, yay for decorating!

@MrsStormy: You'll get the name figured out you have tons of time.
@illumina: @char54: @char54: I love all of your names. We are using Claudia Joy (my grandmother's first, hubby's grandmother&mom&cousin's middle is Joyce so close) or Jack ___. My hubby's grandfathers nickname, we don't have a middle yet but are tossing around a 'big' name like Augustus to balance Jack.
On the people making comments, I've had no weird comments other than everyone wants to tell me my girl name is a character from Army Wives, ugh thats not why I picked it!
@Mrs squirreld: Congrats on your son!
@Mrs squirreld: @evenstar982: We are doing a woodland theme too! I'll post pics of whats done so far.
@evenstar982: I'm so jealous that you can feel movement from the outside now! I still haven't felt anything but I'm a week and a half behind you I think. I'm 18+5
clementine / 818 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Congratulations! That is so exciting! Your ultrasound picture is so amazing, I love how much of you little mans features and details you can see!
@illumina: Love your name! DH really loves Rose, but I know someone very well with that name so felt funny about it. I think people making comments is so strange, unless an name is totally out there, everyone has different tastes, who cares if yours is different than the mom and dads ya know?
@jetsa: I love your names too! I had no idea that was a character on army wives and I would guess most people wouldn't. I'm very impressed with everyones great names on here You nursery looks so great! Are those wall decals, if so where did you get them? I really really love the colors of your walls!
@evenstar982: You are darling! Congrats on half way! I would love to see your mural! Also can you share how you did it? We aren't doing a woodland theme but I do want to paint a tree on the wall.
I'd love to see anyones nursery inspiration pics and/ or what you have done in your nursery (ours is just an empty room at this point- but getting it empty was major). I'll post my inspiration pics here- sorry I have no idea how to make a real inspiration board so it will be very scattered!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@MrsStormy: Thank you, we love it. They are wall decals, we had the choice of decals or stencils and decided that decals would be easier I got them from innovativestencils.com. Its crazy how the paint shows such a different color in the two pictures, ones iphone and ones dslr so maybe thats it. There's birds on the crib wall now too.
clementine / 818 posts
So here are a few of our inspiration pictures
We want to do a wire birdhouse mobile over the crib.
We will do a ruffle curtain like this over the closet instead of a sliding door.
We want a ruffle crib skirt with some prints similar to this, our colors will be blue, green and yellow in these types of shades.
I love this rough and whimsical tree, we will probably go much simpler than this, maybe a cross between this and the tree below, but we want to hang 2 birdhouses like this from it.
I like the simplicity of this tree.
clementine / 818 posts
@jetsa: It looks so great! So which color is it closer to, more muted/taupy green or just more green?
apricot / 284 posts
@jetsa: my 'mural' is based on the same decal you used! I didn't want the birds or the deer on it though...so I did my own twist on it.
I love the green you chose, I am mixing in hints of orange and green with grey in our colourscheme to keep it fairly gender neutral.
@MrsStormy: I 'cheated' and used a projector to put the image onto the wall and then traced round and filled in with white paint.
Heres a couple of pictures - excuse the mess this is very much a work-in-progress!
apricot / 284 posts
@MrsStormy: PS I LOVE the idea of the ruffled curtain instead of wardrobe doors... makes me wish we knew if ours was a girl or not!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@MrsStormy: @evenstar982: Its actually gold, http://www.lowes.com/pd_34143-4-30067CMARKTWAINHOUSE_0__?productId=3813241 The first picture is more accurate of the color.
My hubby told me it looked olive when he was painting it and depending on natural vs artificial light it def does.
Our color scheme is gold (mostly metallic other than the walls), white, and dark brown.
I love your trees and the grey and white you are using. We bought our house last year and have gray in the main area and charcoal in the master so I decided I had to pick a different color

@mrssquirreld: So excited for another baby boy! That's you, me and mamamagpie all with boys due around the same time. So cool!
@jetsa: I watch Army Wives, so that did ring a bell to me, but I love both names regardless. Jack Augustus sounds so cool!
@evenstar982: Great job hand painting those trees. They look really nice! And I'm feeling a little movement from the outside too. Yesterday I was awakened from a nap and my belly was really moving. I made DH stick his hands on it to feel. It was really weird and different from the normal "kicks" and such...I'm assuming it's that vs muscle spasms.
@mrsstormy: I love that you found out of the box ideas for your nursery! I especially like the ruffled crib skirt. If I was having a girl I'd totally go for that.
As for our nursery, we're doing a very industrial look and I've put together a lot of pictures for inspiration but haven't done anything in the actual room since we'll be moving soon. Once I do start getting things ready to go though I'd love to show you ladies my ideas!

@Mrs squirreld: Another BOY!!! CONGRATS!!!! I have to say I am TOTALLY curious about what this little baby is. I'm half thinking girl now since statistically our thread is boy heavy!
@jetsa: LOVE your names!! Claudia is so unique and beautiful. I love Jack Augustus, too...such a strong name!
@jetsa @evenstar982: Your nurseries are fab. I'm so anxious to get started on ours, but we only move in to our house August 20th - exactly one month before baby comes! Oh my. lol
I am thinking that I am definitely feeling the baby move today. Lots of little flutters and weird twinges. I'll be excited for some real kicks!
What's everyone up to this weekend? Tomorrow is my DH's 30th birthday but he'll be in the woods for a bachelor party so we are celebrating tonight. Other than that it will be a low key weekend.
cherry / 199 posts
@char54 I also think I am definitely starting to feel the baby in the last few days. flutters here and there. have you wavered at all on being Team Green? Sometimes I think we should just find out and not tell people but I think I will make it until delivery.
I am going to a birthday party at a beer garden tomorrow sad because I am a BIG beer drinker normally. Then thinking about hitting up a Mets game on Sunday as it is supposed to be 70 in NYC.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@MrsClownfish: I wavered slightly when my BFF found out a few weeks ago that she's having a boy, but then I reminded myself of all the reasons I want to be TG and now I'm good again. I really am holding on to that moment when DH gets to tell me if we have a son or daughter.
It's supposed to be nice here too! I am SO glad that spring is here.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@char54: Thank you!
@char54: @MrsClownfish: I wavered a bit on being team green but not much. Our anatomy scan is next Tuesday and I've come to terms with the fact that its possible we may find out accidentally, and I don't think I'll be tooo upset. This weekend we have no plans, I am so excited. I need a weekend to just chill out.
