@marionberry: @MamaMagpie: thanks for the encouragement - i did not find that thread, but i have heard that from several mommies - it is odd because my last pregnancy my blood sugar was on the opposite end of the spectrum! oh well. My mum said the same thing happened with 3 out of 4 of her pregnancies, and she always passed the 3 hour. so hopefully it is just a pain in the butt and nothing more!

I am so behind ladies! I will try and catch up if I get a chance today! I had a great trip this weekend, it was the perfect blend of relaxing and doing all the things we wanted while on our babymoon. Unfortunately I think this weekend was the start of being a little uncomfortable at night, hips hurting, and waking up a bit sore, hopefully it was due to foreign beds and not just the beginning of the rest of pregnancy
Has anyone else started to get a linea negra? I think mine has started to show up, its not the whole way and its not dark but I can see it. I also started feeling the baby kick down low this weekend, like towards my cervix, thats not real comfortable!
@mrsmoreau: I'm sorry about your test, I hope the 3 hour has a good result for you. Honestly I'm pretty sure I'm going to have GD (I might just being thinking that to mentally prepare myself... just in case), I have a lot of diabetes in my family.

@MrsStormy: I've had a visible linea negra since about 12 weeks. The sore hips are my biggest sleeping complaint right now, I just toss and turn all the time.

@MrsStormy: omg I literally JUST noticed what appears to be a very faint one starting! I don't quite know how I feel about it! Do anyone know why we get them?
Here's me at 25 weeks today

@MamaMagpie: I have no clue why we get them and thats why I'm a little bitter about it... Just another thing changing on/in my body and I don't even know if there is a good reason! Rude
Just got my glucose test stuff, I will just go to the lab to do it sometime in the next week.

Hi ladies,
Having a rough day today...just found out that the school where I work (actually our whole district) is being cut big time next year for teachers. It doesn't really affect me, since I will be off on mat leave for the entire school year anyway (thank you, baby!!!)...but I feel awful for some of the younger teachers who don't know if they will have a job or not. Everyone is just so stressed and I don't know if it's the pregnancy hormones or what, but I am so down about it all!
I drowned my sorrows in a can of coke and hot fudge sundae from McDs. Bad pregnant lady, bad!

@mamamagpie: I love your hair!
@mrsstormy: I tried to prepare myself for having GD before the test too. It made me feel like I'd be more ok with it if the results were bad.
@char54: I'm sorry you're having an emotional day. I eat like that often though. McDonalds sundaes are amazing! Today we went to Papa Murphy's to get some pizza and I realized that their cookie dough has pasteurized eggs so I picked up a carton so I could finally have some. So delish!
@mrssquirreld: At our office they just have you drink it 30 mins before your appointment so that in the middle of your appointment when you hit an hour they can test your blood. It would be nice if your clinic would let you do that an hour and a half early so you wouldn't be stuck waiting. Be warned, that drink is so gross.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: We have to do it at the hospital and basically they just turf you out into the waiting room for 2 hours. And in my local hospital ( NOT the one where I will be giving birth, thats 2 hours away) the waiting room is also the A & E waiting room, so it is full of dodgy people. Not impressed. But its all for bub, so I'll just suck it up. Yeah my doctor warned me its gross, she said it was not uncommon to vomit it up.
Yay can't wait! lol

So I had my first pregnant, emotional breakdown moment today. Bare with me while I explain. Since DH's dsd moved into our home 3 weeks ago it has added a new kind of stress to my daily life which isn't necessarily negative, just stress (if that makes sense). All of a sudden I'm worrying how we'll balance future daycare costs with the cost of getting her a car in the fall when she turns 16, etc. Well today she springs on us that her Spanish teacher is taking kids to Spain in the fall and she signed up to go. It costs $3400. No "can I go?", just "I signed up". So I made a point about her fundraising and DH said she'd need to get a job, but there's no way she'll be able to raise much more than 1k guaranteed. When I got home and could talk to DH alone I just started bawling (which made him realize something was wrong as I rarely cry). Already we're worrying about paying for things and now here's another giant expense. I've never been to Europe (because I could never afford it) and we've been trying just to save enough to get away for a few days before the baby's born, so coming up with $2400 will mean basically next year's tax return money is out the window already. IDK why exactly this set me off, but I am just feeling super overwhelmed. I wish somehow his daughter got the concept that money doesn't grow on trees. And right now we're still paying child support to her mom until the state fixes it, so it's not as if we're even getting some additional income to help out with expenses. Sorry for the vent, but this is the first time I've just felt like I've totally lost it and being pregnant just makes it that much more scary/stressful/frustrating.

@MrsStormy: My linea nigra has been visible since 12 weeks.
@marionberry: *hugs* I would probably have reacted in the same way, pregnancy hormones aside, just because it's a stressful situation. Teenagers have the luxury of not having to worry about financial planning. I remember my biggest expenses in high school were car insurance and clothes (lol). Now we have to worry about current and future expenses for our children and home. Don't fret about your reaction -- I think it's normal!

@marionberry: firstly, I want to say that I don't think your reaction was uncalled for at all! You've had quite a curveball thrown at you, and you've been handling it with grace and love. It isn't unreasonable to have this (pretty sizable) added expense throw you off -- money can be stressful as it is and this particular added expense caries more than just monetary complications. Can she "un-sign up"? If she signed up without asking, it seems reasonable to tell her it's just not an option unless she can raise the money herself. It might not be a fun lesson to have to teach, but it seems like she needs to learn it!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MapleMoose: thank you! It's great to hear I'm not acting crazy.
@mamamagpie: that's what DH and I decided. We're not paying for it. If she can raise the money herself she can go but otherwise she needs to "un-sign up" as you said. It's a luxury we cannot afford right now and her wants can't come before the needs of the entire family. Great minds think alike. Now just gotta tell her that lol.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: I totally agree with @MamaMagpie: She totally should have discussed it with you both first before signing up. I'm sure she will kick up a stink.. but hey thats what teenagers do and its not like you are saying she can't go... but she can work for it and learn a vital life lesson! I went on a ski trip when I was in year 11 and I worked my arse off for it!!! My parents then gave me some spending money as a reward for saving and paying for it myself... that might be a nice reward for her if she does it?

@Mrs squirreld: Isn't watching your belly move awesome?! I love it! And we'd certainly give her spending money if she saved up the money to go. I just don't see her putting in the effort to do it herself. I think once we say we aren't paying she'll give up.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: So glad you decided to have her save her own money to go on the trip. $3400 isn't a small amount of money and she can't assume that someone else will come up with it. Tough lesson to learn, but an important one I think - especially with all of the baby expenses you have right now!
@Mrs squirreld: Isn't that the coolest thing??!! DH and I just sit staring at my belly waiting for it to move, lol. It blows my mind that something inside of me is strong enough to do that!

So DH and I have decided to move closer to his work...it's better for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it will allow us to save more money -- he's a personal trainer and always has a two-hour block in the middle of the day, so we will save about $500/month on not having to have a dog walker.
I'm sure it's the right choice, and I'm kind of excited to move to a newer place (our current apartment is nice but built in the 70's) but it means moving just two months before my due date! Eeek!
nectarine / 2522 posts
@MamaMagpie: congrats on the decision to move!! Sounds like the right one!
What is with us September ladies... So many of us are moving or have moved during this pregnancy!! We are officially moving now too!!!!! Over 2000kms away for DH's work. We are super excited and happy, it will bring a lot of good things our way, including having the ocean near by again and DH doubling his income!! We will be moving when I'm about 32 weeks which is scarey but atleast we'll be settled in our new home ready for bub to arrive. What do you ladies think about me flying then? I can get OB's permission to fly if all looks good, but I'm not really keen on DH driving all that way by himself.... But a 2000kms drive at 32weeks.. I dunno!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Do what seems like it will be most comfortable for you. In your position I would've likely flown just because of the "needing to stop to pee factor" but I'd feel bad making my DH drive alone too.
@mamamagpie: Congrats on your decision to move! It's funny starting your family in a new place.
To all of you movers I must say and scream TAKE IT EASY during the move. I thought I was and then I could barely walk. You should be packing or unpacking only. No even carrying a box or bag. You'll be even farther along than me so it's important not to stress your body into early labor.

@marionberry: I'm so sorry you have been having to deal with all the additional stress of having your step daughter with you guys, no matter how great or wonderful it might be to have her, thats a lifestyle adjustment in the middle of an already chaotic time, so serious props to you for handling the situations so well. Also I think you and your DH made the right choice telling her she needs to raise the money herself, that is a HUGE amount of money to spring on you right now. Good luck actually telling her.
@Mrs squirreld: I haven't seen my belly move yet, but I haven't really looked for it, maybe I will try to watch for it now.

wow, I am getting so behind! sorry for anything I've missed and not responded to but here goes...
@MamaMagpie: @mrsmoreau: have you had your glucose tests yet? How'd you get on? Looks like mine isn't until my 28 week appointment (next week) but I don't know what it entails - just a urine sample and blood test I think?
@MrsStormy: re. Linea negra - yes, mine showed up a couple of weeks ago, in fact DH noticed it first (I can't see that far down my belly any more!) he asked what it was and why it appeared... interestingly in the last few days I've started to notice it creeping ABOVE my belly button as well... which I think isn't as common? what's everyone else experiencing?
@MamaMagpie: daaang mama, great picture, you look amazing! I must take an updated picture - got my hair chopped last week and some new maternity dresses for summer / my shower so doing my best to occasionally try and look 'hot' and not just a hot-mess!
@char54: mmm hot fudge sundae and coke... sorry to hear your school is cutting back though.
@marionberry: good on you and DH for pushing back on the paris trip, sounds like you handled it really well - I hope she takes the news ok!
@Mrs squirreld: @MamaMagpie: best of luck with your house moves ladies, try and take it easy! very exciting though
How's everyone doing with aches and pains this week? My back is starting to play me up occasionally - friday and saturday were awful (could hardly walk by saturday night!) but then sunday I woke up feeling like a new woman - guess the baby was pressing a nerve or something and eventually moved and made it all better (oh, if only I knew it wasn't temporary - I live in fear of the next time now!). I am loving all the belly-shaking and rolling movements now though, such a weird feeling but it always brings a huge grin to my face when I feel it!

@Mrs squirreld: @marionberry: Just booked the movers for NEXT WEEK!! Spent this past weekend packing and I was feeling it on Monday. I'm definitely not able to carry things with this bump, but I suppose that's a good thing.
@MrsStormy: A watched belly never moves. Or at least that's how it was at first for me. I could see movement out of the corner of my eye but I swear every time I dropped what I was doing and just watched my belly for movement the little bug would stop!

@MapleMoose: eeek how exciting... Seriously take it easy. I have the luxury that our movers paid for by DH's work come and pack and wrap everything...
@evenstar982: I have been having a lot of hip pain... I think when I sleep on my side the weight of bub hurts me... But I Todd and turn like a crazy person so who knows!!

Hey everyone! It is so hard to keep up with this thread
@marionberry I totally agree that your stepdaughter should have to pay for it if it does not fit into your budget (and she shouldn't have just assumed she could sign up without asking).
Good luck with all the moves everyone.
I just purchased the hypnobabies self-study course. Anyone else looking into this?
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@evenstar982: my linea negra goes from my boob line and down below my belly button out of sight. I'm also loving the crazy, belly-shaking movement now.
@evenstar982: @Mrs squirreld: yep on the aches and pains, my sleep has just been really bad lately due to it.
@marionberry: I agree with everyone else, she shouldn't have just expected you to be able to pay for it.
@MapleMoose: @Mrs squirreld: @MamaMagpie:good luck with the moves!
So random question I started this pregnancy as a AA and am already growing out of my old B bras. VS is having their semi-annual sale so I was going to go buy so new ones but what size? I intend to breastfeed as well.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Enjoy that luxury!!!
@MamaMagpie: Oops, just saw that you are moving too! We September ladies like change lol
@jetsa: I am growing out of my pre-preg bras too, but I was wondering if I should just invest in a few nursing bras rather than buy new 'regular' bras. I have a feeling my chest will shrink post-pregnancy and when I finish breastfeeding. Still debating this...
persimmon / 1436 posts
@Mrs squirreld: those sound like two very cool reasons to be excited to move -- living near the sea is important to me, too, and that salary increase for your DH will come in handy with the new addition to your family! I have to agree with @marionberry: about flying if your dr allows it -- even though I'd also feel bad if I made my DH drive all that way alone. However, maybe if you make a plan for lots of bathroom stops you'd be ok?
@evenstar982: thank you! I'm feeling the most feminine and comfortable in my own skin that I've ever felt, which is a totally new and wonderful thing for me! You definitely need to update us with a bump and new hair pic!!! I'm sure you look amazing!
I'm doing my one-hour glucose test next week and I'm a little nervous about it. I've heard from so many bees that they failed their one-hour, but did go on to pass the three-hour, and I really hope not to have to do that! I'm told my mother had GD while pregnant with me, but she also gained "too much" weight, so hopefully that won't mean much for me.
Also, I'm absolutely starting to feel some aches I woke up one day last week and my left hip was killing me from sleeping on my side, and my neck was tweaked
I have had hip issues since college (minor motorcycle accident that left my hips slightly "twisted") and so I knew I was going to seek chiropractic help at some point. My OB recommends this one chiro who specializes in pregos and so I saw him yesterday and feel pretty good!
persimmon / 1436 posts
@MrsClownfish: ooooh, what's hypnobabies? I'm intrigued!
@maplemoose: we sure do! At least we get to have an excuse to not lift anything
@jetsa: I've already gone through my new pg bras, too! I went from a C to a DD and I'm spilling out of those now. I was trying to decide if I should just buy one or two more regular bras or bite the bullet and get nursing bras. But I keep hearing an IRL mommy friend's voice telling me they will get even bigger when milk comes in and it's better to wait until the very end for those. Oy!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@MamaMagpie: @MapleMoose: yea I was wondering about nursing bras as well, I'm just clueless. I'm sure they'll go back down pre-preg too!
@MrsClownfish: I meant to put in my last post we looked into that and Bradley method but my husband felt most comfortable with a doula so that's what we're doing. I know several people who loved it though!
cherry / 199 posts
@MamaMagpie: @MapleMoose @jetsa I just ordered some nursing bras because I figured if I was going to go up a size might as well get it with the flap down part. I ordered them from barenecessities.com so we'll have to see if they fit
Hypnobabies is part meditation I guess and has CDs that you upload on to your ipad and listen to. I have read good things about it. If you google it you can get some different reviews from people that have used it (not sure of any Bees that have used it).
I am trying to get in the mindset that I can do it med free. I feel like there is a backlash against women that want to try to do it without pain meds. I don't understand this. There is nothing wrong with thinking that you can do it without it and then see what happens rather than just saying I am definitely getting an epi (there is nothing wrong with that either btw if that is what you want).
I am also reading Ina May's Guide to natural Childbirth.
clementine / 818 posts
@evenstar982: I've definitely started to have some aches and pains. I seriously over did it this weekend (walked in a relay for life for 2 hours in the heat) I walked about 6 miles, then I was working on painting a tree in the nursery which was so much more work than I expected, and required me standing, squatting, bending and such for 10+ hours this weekend.
I also have noticed the outer part of my right thigh is sort of numb/ asleep in the mornings- but it still is even now about 5 hours after I woke up, so I'm not sure what thats about, if I should call my Dr, I'm guessing baby is just on a nerve, it does not hurt or disrupt life or anything. Has anyone had anything like this?
cherry / 199 posts
@MrsStormy I have not had numbness in my lower extremities but my hands frequently fall asleep at night (apparently it is common in your hands as swelling can cause carpal tunnel or something). As for your leg, I would just call and ask one of the nurses at your Dr's office.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@MrsClownfish: what do you think of that book? I'm about 2/3 done and I'm less impressed than I thought I'd be. I mean its mostly common sense your body can do this. My favorite part is the illustration that if you are confident in your body you will feel less pain than the person who's scared and tense.
I agree with you though, I've been told over and over I don't need to be a super hero there's nothing wrong with getting pain meds, and no there's not anything wrong with it but that's not the birth I want.
