Ladies, what size clothes are we buying? I'm in the midwest so the weather for the end of September is unpredictable at best so should I just stick to sleepers until babe's here or? Like for winter & Christmas do we think 0-3 months or something larger?

I'm in the midwest too and I am buying lots of layers. Short-sleeves and hoodies or sweaters in case it is a chilly day. The weather in September/October can be very unpredictable in Illinois.

I'm currently recovering from my first real pregnancy illness. I ended up getting a rather nasty sinus infection that caused my right eye to swell up really bad. I look like I was in a bar fight. I felt so klassy sitting in Walgreens waiting for my prescriptions because I am 6 months pregnant, wasn't wearing my wedding ring, and have a big swollen black eye. Everyone was definitely giving me the side eye. I'm very thankful that my job is so flexible because I told my boss on Monday that he shouldn't expect to see me until my eye looks normal again lol! Thankfully I can work from home just as easily as I can from the office.

@evenstar982: We actually start our classes next week, which is so early, but it was the only way we could make it work. Our classes are 6 weeks, and the next class started too late for us, it would have put my in my last week of pregnancy for the last class and that was cutting it too close for me (plus its in the evening and I work 10 hour shifts so I thought at that point in my pregnancy I probably would not feel up to going to a class after work).
@jetsa: Clothes are so hard, between being team green and being due in an unpredictable weather time I am struggling! I have mostly bought sleepers and some onsie pant outfits, I also got a little sweater in case it is cold, even though it is normally still pretty hot here until late Oct.

@Meltini: this was my thought too! I'm in IL as well. My aunt said when my cousin was born 16 years ago she was running out to get shorts because it was unseasonably warm
@mrsstormy that's all I've bought so far too. I didn't expect team green to be a concern but its made it difficult.

@jetsa: oooh going over to subscribe to your other thread next
@Meltini: hope your eye gets better soon!
@MrsStormy: @jetsa: re. clothes, so far I am being horribly restrained (benefit of being team Green) and have hardly brought any clothes... but the real reason is I am waiting until after my shower as clothes and toys were pretty much the only things I felt comfortable putting on my registry as they are both inexpesive (and between us and my parents we've taken care of the 'big ticket items')... so waiting to see what we get as gifts first and will do a bit of topping up in whatever areas seems best later in August before baby arrives.
But so far I have focused on simple, layer-able pieces in neutral/white. If we don't get one gifted, I might buy a 3-6mo snowsuit or something for getting towards Christmas, but the weather in the UK is also very changeable so it's hard to know what to plan for in September.

@evenstar982: Our classes are in July as well. I'm planning on an epidural at some point but if I get to 8cm and I can still handle it I may try for natural. It's all a crap shoot in my opinion. I just don't know what to expect.

Well I failed my 1 hr glucose test I'm pretty bummed, even though I knew it was pretty likely, after telling the nurse my family history she seemed to think there was a good chance I would fail too. Oh well, on to the 3 hour test. I'm mostly bummed because it took them a week and half to contact me about it, so I was starting to think MAYBE I didn't fail.

@jetsa: @evenstar982: I went with Meds for my first pregnancy - however, my epi "didn't take" so I practically had a med-free birth anyway! however, I did have to be put on Pitocin so that was not great either. I haven't decided what my plan of attack is this time around... I have been tossing around the idea of a natural birth but I am still not sure. perhaps I will check out the other thread as well!
@MrsStormy: I just took the 3 hr test on Thursday and passed after failing my 1 hr. I think that what you eat the day of the 1 hr test really does affect the result despite what the doctors say. anyway best of luck with the 3 hour - I have heard horror stories about it but for me it wasn't bad at all. just annoying to sit and wait so long.
updating the list with my next appointment!

@Joanlindsay: What hypnosis album did you use? I've just recently started to think about how to stay calm and focused during labor, even though I'm still not quite sure if I want to go med-free...
@evenstar982: we take our classes in August, but they are three all day long sessions, if they were a several weeks-long course, I'd be trying to start next month, too!
@jetsa: I really love that passage/thought and I've recently begun thinking "maybe I CAN do it without an epi". Until now, I've been in the "give me the drugs!" camp but I think it has mostly been just about fear. Now I'm thinking I'd like to at least prepare and plan to TRY to go without but not beat myself up if I can't. I admire those who plan and succeed in going med-free, of course not judging those who don't! I think I'll check out your thread
@mrsstormy: boo on not passing the 1-hour I'll keep my fingers crossed you pass the 3-hour! I'm doing my 1-hour tomorrow and I'm nervous!

@MamaMagpie: We have the same plan. I figure no matter what we will have birthed a child how we got there isn't important at that point

@Mamamagpie Hypnosis for Giving Birth by Anna Thompson
I'll say it's a bit corny but, it also must be effective cause I literally only know like the first two tracks the rest I've never been alert or awake enough to remember.
Just a note - I had my heart set on a drug free labor and it wasn't in the cards for me - I'm way to Type A apparently and sat at 8cm dilated for like 5 hours because I couldn't let go and relax. Anyway, I really felt terrible for about an hour trying to decide if I wanted the epidural and feeling like I was failing when I chose to go ahead with the meds. I had a great nurse, husband, and my mom who reminded me how hard I had worked and the important part was to get baby there safe and healthy and keep me safe and healthy too.
So to all of you hoping to be med-free truly good luck it's totally possible - but if it doesn't happen it doesn't make you any less of a mother or a woman.

@Joanlindsay: I am also type A and this is what I'm concerned about, so thank you for saying it, either way I'll go home with a baby though so I'm good.
@Mrs squirreld: beautiful.

@jetsa: I've been buying mostly 0-3mths, since we were given a huge second hand haul of newborn clothes. The weather here in September-October can be pretty mixed, so I've been trying to get a mix of long and short sleeve and leg clothes.
@MrsStormy: sorry about the test Fingers crossed you'll ace the next one!
@Mrs squirreld: Ahhhh! So cute! I really want to do a 4D scan, but can't justify the cost! I'm so eager to see what she looks like though!

Thanks ladies!
@Mrs squirreld: What a great picture, I know I said I often think the 3d images are a little creepy, but this totally isn't, its got so much great detail!
@Joanlindsay: I'm a bit like this too, which is why I'm planning to prepare for natural but try to remain open to anything, regardless of how things go, its just a means to an end, bringing out sweet babies into the world

I failed my 1 hr glucose test too. I have the 3 hr test scheduled for Monday. I'm really not sure how I will make it 12 hours without eating anything. This blows.

Yes, luckily I go in at 9 am. It's going to be a really long morning though

@Meltini: My appointments Monday too, and I also have to fast 12 hours, I'm going to be starving for sure, that's 15 total hours of no food! I'm going in at 7:30 in the morning which is a bummer, because I don't work Mondays so normally I could sleep in, but I didn't want the appointment to take up too much of my day.

@Mrs squirreld: Adorable!!! It's incredible what ultrasounds can show these days!
Today was the last day of school so I am officially off work for 14 months! It's sort of surreal right now but exciting because it means baby is coming soon. My coworkers threw me a baby shower and I was totally surprised. It was so thoughtful and I was so touched! It makes it feel all a little more real. Less than 3 months to go!!

So I have been having some weird things the past 2 days, have you guys experienced this at all? My stomach is really sort of uncomfortable, like sort of tight with a lot of pressure (it might just be gas or bloating, but it doesn't feel like it did earlier in pregnancy when I had those things), and if you put slight pressure a few inches above my belly button, like around where the top of my uterus is, its tender. Its just weird I haven't had anything like this, but the past 2 days I have just been feeling blech with these things.
Also (heres the tmi) I drink a lot of water, I've had over 100 ounces today (its still afternoon here) but my pee is still sort of yellow, is that normal, should I be drinking more water?
clementine / 818 posts
@char54: That is so exciting how much time off you have! What are your plans for between now and when the baby comes?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MrsStormy: My upper stomach has also been pretty sore where my uterus ends. I figure it's just the pain of it stretching. Additionally I've also had a hard time staying hydrated, but I've been busy with work so I'm not drinking as much water as I should. I would still try to up your water intake though.

@marionberry: woohoo it's almost baby time! It will be so nice to get all ready for LO to arrive and hopefully relax, too!

@MrsStormy: I'm not sure if I'm feeling the same thing as you are describing, but the other day I woke up and it felt like...like my muscle had separated from my ribs? I don't know how else to describe it...it's up high under my breast and feels sore like a pulled muscle or minor bruised rib. Oh the joys of being in/near the third trimester!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MamaMagpie: That's very similar to how mine felt.
I bought most of my "need after birth" personal supplies today and some items for my hospital stay like slippers. I'm excited to start packing my hospital bag even though I'm still in need of a few items before I could finish it.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: yay!! I just made a list of everything I will need! Doing up a big list of things that need to be done prior to our big move and packing my hospital bag is one of them!!! eeeeeeeek!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Mrs squirreld: it's exciting! I need to make a list of everything we need to do still eventually. I bet the move certainly prompts that for you though.

@marionberry: I'll feel a bit more relaxed after wednesday when I see our OB and we have our referral for the new OB and hospital!! Just means we won't be bale to start our classes til the 12th of August. It's going to be a crazy few weeks... but I'm getting soo excited!!!! DH & I are so less stressed now and getting really really excited to meet this little guy!!!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Mrs squirreld: I know. I just want baby marionberry to be here soon...or really I want my showers to get here so I can finish his nursery. Bummer about late classes but I'm sure you'll be just fine. I was almost tempted to skip ours and go in blind. I think knowing everything is sometimes worse.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@MrsStormy: I've been having the same pains on and off for a few weeks now. As far as the water idk, I drink about 8 cups a day and my midwife said that was plenty.
On another note, I was registry snooping tonight and my aunt bought me my bob jogging stroller. I'm shocked! I didn't know if anyone would buy it or not because its expensive!
persimmon / 1436 posts
@jetsa: woohoo on the stroller! How nice of her! I haven't looked at my registry in a while, I think I'm going to do that right now!
You ladies inspired me to make a packing list for our hospital bags I'm feeling much better about it

@mrssquirreled Heartburn is such a pain. My Dr. Suggested Pepcid Complete to me for my last pregnancy and I found it really helped.
I feel your pain. Hope you find a solution.
pomelo / 5469 posts
@Mrs squirreld: you poor thing! I had heartburn a lot pre-preg and the pre-emptive taking of tablets really helped me if I'd just had a big meal, before I got any symptoms.
