@Joanlindsay: I saw a woman laboring in the hallway today (I work in a hospital) and just thought, oh God that will be me soon. I'm definitely staying in the OB wing versus walking around where all of the staff can look at me looking like hell. And thinking about the lack of sleep we're going to have, I definitely wish I could take a nap.

@marionberry: the lack of sleep is my biggest fear. I am a BIATCH when I'm tired... poor DH.

@marionberry I just keep thinking I did it once before so surely I can do it again....right!?!
I'm just starting to feel so big and baby is so clearly present with the constant and powerful movements - it just seems a little crazy.
I read Cup of Jo yesterday and she was talking about how fast 2nd pregnancy/labor can be and I guess it sort of made me think about how soon it will all be happening.

@Joanlindsay: Yes. I was so exhausted in the first trimester and got my energy back in the second. Now the fatigue has returned for the final stretch. I had the day off and I ended up taking a nap only a few hours after getting up.

@Mrs squirreld: me too! Total biatch with no sleep.

@Joanlindsay: @marionberry: @Mrs squirreld: @MapleMoose: Me too! I am soo tired these days! Literally I will do something for a couple of hours in the morning and then feel like I need to nap at lunch. I'm sorry you ladies are finding it tough, though at the same time kinda glad it's not just me! I'm going to a wedding next weekend and I don't know how I'm going to hold out all day without a lie down!

I failed my 1 hour glucose but my dr is out so no one knows if I'll have to take the 3 hour or not because my number was 131 and it was supposed to be 130 or under.

  8. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: I'm sorry! That's got to be a pain not knowing. When does your doctor get back?

  9. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: Its my fault I knew they wouldn't get back to me this week and I had to call and try to find out My dr doesn't get back until monday and I have a 9am appt. The nurse said to fast and that way I can take the 3 hour that morning if she wants.

  10. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@Joanlindsay: I've been having the same feelings. this is my second pregnancy too and it is SO DIFFERENT. it is definitely going by fast.
I've also been having a hard time connecting with this baby so far... perhaps because I am basically in survival mode chasing after DS haha.

for all of the BTDT mamas.... I had an Epi last time around, and I've been toying with the idea of going without this time (or at least attempting to go without). My epi only took to my left side last time, so I guess it was half an epi. and from what I recall, the contractions I could feel on the other side were painful, but manageable. but I am wondering if it is just the endorphins making me forget so I am wondering who had an Epidural, and who didn't and if anyone knows how different it really is....

  11. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: Hopefully you can just complete the 3 hour on Monday if she wants, so that at least you'll get final results ASAP.

@mrsmoreau: At what cm dilated did you ask for your epi?

AFM, we stopped at Dairy Queen yesterday before going to a big 3rd of July fireworks thing which was so much fun. Turns out it gave me food poisoning and I have been sick since 11pm last night. Totally crappy way to start the 4th of July. I hope you all have really fun plans for tonight! We're supposed to be going to a big BBQ, firework thing on the water if I feel better by then.

  12. Joanlindsay

    grape / 98 posts

@mrsmoreau I tried to go drug free last time. I ended up with an epi getting stuck at 8 cm for 4+ hours. Then I had to start petocin and I was just to tired to deal with it anymore.

I'm planning on an epi as soon as I get to 8cm this time.

    Good luck whatever you decide.

  13. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@marionberry: I was 6cm. they started Pitocin shortly thereafter. that was at 6:30am, DS was here screaming at 12:43pm. @Joanlindsay: thanks for the insight... I had no trouble last time, so it's hard to gauge... I will continue to think on it.

@marionberry: Oh no!!Are you feeling any better?? I think I had a food poisoning too earlier in the week. I was out of town for work and had a delicious meal at a local restaurant...but then spent the next 48 hours throwing up/diarrhea with the worst stomach cramps. It was awful! I am finally starting to feel better now or I would have gone to the OBS clinic today to make sure baby was okay.

@mrsmoreau: I am hoping to go without an epi but am not at all opposed to it since I have absolutely no idea what labor is like and I'm sort of a wimp. I hate the idea of not being able to walk around, and at our hospital once you have an epi a nurse has to stay in your room 24/7 to monitor which I think would drive me nuts. We'll see when the time comes though!

Anyone else find it hard to believe we're in the 3rd trimester?? I keep thinking that I'm still in the early stages of my pregnancy, lol. I'm always telling DH "Can you imagine how hot/swollen/insert symptom here/ I'll be when I'm REALLY pregnant?:" He laughs and tells me "No offense, but you ARE really pregnant already!"

I'm getting SO excited to meet this little baby and hold him or her in my arms.

@char54: I'm feeling much better now thanks! I agree that it's hard to believe we're already rushing through our third trimester. I have my first baby shower next weekend even!

Weirdest thing happened to me this morning. I woke up with a very obvious imprint of a jesus fish on my belly, right about where baby's heart usually is. It was probably the sheets, but it was really crazy! I texted a photo to my husband even.

@char54: I keep doing the same thing! It's so crazy to me how fast this has all gone by...it feels like just yesterday that I would ask friends/family "do I have a bump yet?!" and now I'm super large!
@marionberry: I'm glad you're feeling better! That must've really sucked And that's so crazy about the imprint!

Is anyone else doing professional maternity shots? My BIL is a photographer and has offered to do them and I'm so excited! He's really good and we are pretty close so it should be fun We picked a date that works and I'll be just a few days short of 34 weeks...I feel pretty good now but hope four more weeks don't make me transform into a complete walrus!

@MamaMagpie: I think we're going to but I haven't scheduled anything yet. I need to get on that!

  18. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MamaMagpie: we are going to! We scheduled newborn, 3, 6, 9, and 12 month photos and the maternity shoot was free with the package
I'll be 33w+2d so I'm hoping the same thing!

ok we just installed the car seat in our car today.. that was tricky!! lol I was paranoid it wasn't "safe" enough.. haha motherhood. But we tweaked it and it seems much better now!! Going to get it checked by our insurance place just to be sure....

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@marionberry: I would have no idea how to find someone if BIL wasn't offering! Good luck! Do you know of people near you whose work you like?
@jetsa: that sounds like an awesome package! Wow, I cannot believe we are going to have LOs so very soon!
@mrssquirreld: good job on the carseat installation! We haven't even gotten ours yet

PS it's 3:50am where I am and I am wide awake I woke up to pee and was too uncomfortable to fall back to sleep...I'm hoping some Hellobee will soothe me back to la la land soon!

    pomelo / 5469 posts

@marionberry: I'm sorry you were ill I hope you're feeling better now though!

Hope everyone that celebrates it had a lovely 4th

Is anyone else noticing significantly less movement? I didn't think about it until yesterday, but for the past couple of days she has barely moved during the day, has an active spell early evening for an hour or so, and then... nothing. I hope she is just getting cramped, rather than anything else.

  23. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@MamaMagpie: I googled around and found one good photographer, but I also know of our wedding photographer and another who would be great options too. I need to email them all and talk pricing and availability now. I've just been busy.

@illumina: DS moves around a lot when he's awake and then will go hours asleep. I've never really worried about it but now that we're supposed to count movements every hour (starting in less than a week) I wonder if we really should feel them every hour? Are we really supposed to lay down every hour? That won't happen.

  24. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@marionberry: @illumina: I've been feeling the baby move more when I'm walking around or moving (before it was only when I was lying down), but I too will go hours without feeling anything. My doctor told me I should feel 6 movements every 2 hours. I definitely don't feel that, but I'm not too worried. If I didn't feel anything for a day or two I might go in but I can still count on baby going crazy around 11pm each night!

It is SO HOT here lately. Anyone else?? I've been spending my days at the beach and floating in the ocean. We have an air conditioner in our bedroom but the rest of our house is unbearable. I find myself going to bed at 8pm just to get some relief, lol. Bring on September!!

  25. Joanlindsay

    grape / 98 posts

@illumina @marionberry I know if I'm busy I don't notice movement as much. Last pregnancy if I sat down alone and relaxed on my bed or somewhere quiet I could do my kick count in 5-10 min.
I also think I remember that as baby got bigger the movements were not quite as rambunctious more like a firm kick or punch like "I need more room" than the crazy acrobatics when they are smaller.
I wouldn't worry to much but if you are worried give your Dr a shout.

@MamaMagpie: I am hoping a friend will have time to take some maternity shots for us... I really should ask her so we can put a date in the diary soon!

@Mrs squirreld: Our car seat arrives next week, we did a test run with a similar (but not identical) model belonging to a friend the other day, so I'm hoping it won't be too complicated! We went for one with a base that stays in the car, and the infant carrier clips in and out of it (and can go on the stroller base). All I'm worried about is how HEAVY it'll be with a baby in it... I don't think I'll survive many months of lifting it in and out of the car before I end up leaving the seat in place and just moving the baby!

@illumina: I think LO is starting to run out of room... movement might be less frequent but when I do sense it, its BIG... like I can see elbows/knees/feet pushing out of my stomach! I don't tend to worry unless I wake up in the morning and don't remember feeling much the previous evening. Pretty sure they are just getting cramped in there though... if I hunch over or lean forwards I feel like I have feet literally stuck under my ribs!

@char54: Wah! Yes! Heatwave finally reached us here in the UK, this weekend was HOT... no drink is cold enough and I have to have the fan blowing all night to help me sleep!

@marionberry: So exciting about your shower! Mine isn't for another 4 weeks yet, but starting to get excited about wrapping up and leaving work in a couple of weeks.

@marionberry: no 3 hour test! My midwife said she wasn't concerned with the 1 point difference. She did put me on iron bc my hemoglobin was low though!

a conversation that should never be had with a pregnant lady:
guy at the office: "how much longer do you have?"
me: "another 2 months or so"
guy: "oh my God you poor thing you are going to be HUGE! I thought you were due next week!"
    me: "................"

  29. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

    @jetsa: hooray!!! That's awesome news
@mrsmoreau: I would've punched him in the face. Or started bawling -- men usually freak out when women cry What an idiot. I had a woman the other day say "wow, you look like your done"...I was like "not quite." Why are people so clueless and rude?!

@MamaMagpie: @mrsmoreau: OMG people. A couple of weeks ago I had 2 people tell me I looked huge for September and haven't heard anything since, I think the bump fluctuates but seriously people keep your mouth shut!

My aunt told me I am so much bigger than her DIL who is due the same day as I am. Great, thanks...

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@jetsa: yeesh! I think my bump fluctuates, too, or at least my feelings about it do?
@meltini: how incredibly rude! Who likes to be compared to anyone else even when they're not pregnant?! People are so ridiculous!

  34. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@evenstar982: I wish I was wrapping up work soon! I'll be working up until I deliver...and likely working from home off and on during leave.
@jetsa: That's great news! I traditionally have low iron but so far my doctor hasn't said anything about it being low. I don't know if he's even checked it though.
@mrsmoreau @meltini @jetsa: How rude! Some people have no manners! My boss (a male who is often the opposite of PC) keeps telling me I look really good for where I'm at in the pregnancy...which keeps me asking him if he assumes I'll get fat and ugly by the end? It's just as rude.
    @mamamagpie: Yes I can't wait to see everyone's pics!

A friend of mine had her baby on Saturday. Perfect labor for her (totally natural) but the baby swallowed way too much amniotic fluid during delivery and had to be intubated right after birth - supposedly this happens somewhat regularly. Our hospital doesn't have a NICU so the baby was transferred to the children's hospital and will be there for at least a week. Now all I can think about is the fact that I pray this baby has no issues. I don't want to be stuck at the hospital recovering while my baby is an hour away.

  35. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: Oh my goodness prayers for your friend.
An issue like that one is one of the reasons why we keep tossing around the idea of not delivering with our midwife, she delivers in a hospital without a NICU and we have to pass a hospital with one to get to her, this is a pain of TTC for such a long period of time when I found my midwife the closer hospital was out of network, now it is in network.
I will also be working up to my due date and then I think the plan is to start coming back at about 4 weeks part time (if I'm up to it) as to stretch out my leave as long as possible and also to allow us to have a week together at Christmas. I'll also be available via phone/email while I'm out. I manage my construction jobs and I just don't know how I could just walk away for a several months.

Just found out I was exposed to shingles over the weekend. I'll call the dr in the AM but has anyone else been through this?

  37. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: Our hospital where we're delivering is literally the hospital known in the state for having babies. It doesn't have a NICU but the likelihood you need one is always pretty slim. We have arrangements with the children's hospital to ensure those babies get the same kind of care right away. So I'm not super worried, it's maybe a 5% chance that something like that would happen. Just maybe check on your hospital's policy about what their transfer policy is or how they handle newborns with problems and make sure you're comfortable with it. As far as shingles, my sister actually had them recently and the doctor said it only is contagious if you've not had chickenpox before. Even so, you wouldn't get shingles, you would get chicken pox. Have you had chicken pox? And I'm in the same boat as you as far as being the only one to do my job. It's a bummer, but I don't want someone else messing with it either.

  38. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: I've had chicken pox, so I'm not worried although I'm going to call the dr anyway.

  39. Meltini

    apricot / 495 posts

@jetsa: The hospital I want to deliver at doesn't have a NICU either. I have to talk to my doctor at my appt today about which hospital he thinks I should deliver at since he works with 3 different hospitals. I'm hoping he doesn't want me to go to the larger hospital with the NICU because that one is 45 minutes away. Sounds like a miserable drive when in labor!

  40. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@Meltini: yes it does! The hospital I'm supposed to deliver at is 45-50 mins away.
