@jetsa: Our hospital doesn't have much of a nicu either, they can handle many issues, but any major problems get flown out of the area typically... Also you might want to talk to your Dr. about your planning to go back to work at 4 weeks post birth, I know where I live they don't medically release you back to work until 6 weeks.

My bump totally fluctuates too, and I am seriously over peoples comments about it. I don't understand why people think its acceptable to comment on the size of my body, belly or otherwise pregnant or not.

  2. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MrsStormy: everything ive heard in my area is for a normal birth its 4 weeks, c-section is 6-8 weeks. I won't actually be back to work, just working a day here or there to stretch my leave. Also some of it may be from home And it's totally my call as far as they are concerned I'm coming back at 8, but if I can handle the projects that are out to construction it saves me huge headaches when I get back.

My hospital is a 45 min drive too! Let's hope none of us have really quick labors. Luckily my DH delivered babies in nursing school so I feel ok with him delivering if he absolutely had to.

@marionberry: LOL, I'll have my doula with me (or in the car right behind me) so I guess thats a plus.

Ugh, I hear you ladies. Just yesterday I was at work with no AC so I was swollen and uncomfortable and sure, the bump looked big, but that doesn't mean it's okay for a coworker to tell me he thought I was due this week or carrying twins because I look *that big*. I'm due the last day of September. Thanks guy.

On a positive note, passed the 1 hour glucose test this morning!

  6. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@MapleMoose: Yay for passing the glucose test! I HATE when people ask me when I'm due, I say September, and then they act all shocked : "I thought you were due next week by the way you look!!!" etc. Grrrrrrrrr

Now that I'm off work I am getting really antsy for this baby to come. I can't wait until we move (August 20th!!) and can start setting up the nursery. I think that will help the restlessness I'm feeling now. DH and I are heading to the USA this weekend to pick up some baby things so hopefully that will help. I'm trying to fill my days cleaning, making healthy meals and going for short walks but I'm finding them long. I've also been watching a lot of A Baby Story, lol. I cry every time the baby is born!!

I just got back from my doctor's appts. He said that as long as I make it to 34 weeks and the pregnancy continues to be healthy, I can deliver at the hospital close to home. If I go early or if something happens to make this pregnancy/delivery higher risk, he prefers that I go to the hospital that is 45 minutes away. Works for me! We are going to go tour both hospitals just to be safe. I also found out that I will get another ultrasound in 3 weeks so that is exciting! I can tell the little guy is growing like crazy so I can't wait to see him again.

  8. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

    @maplemoose: Yay! Great news.
@char54: I bet it's hard waiting that long to work on your nursery. I haven't been able to do anything yet but I'm hoping after my shower this weekend I can start putting things together. I can't imagine waiting until August. Blah! You poor thing.
@maplemoose: @char54: My coworker is due in a week and we work together a lot so of course people will ask us jointly when we're due. When she says a few days people always turn to me and when I say 2 months they look surprised, as if I should be due in a few days too. Really makes you feel bad.

@marionberry: omg how crazy would that be if your DH delivered your baby?! Stuff of movies, I tell ya
ETA: Of course, I don't actually hope that happens!!! I'm sure you'll make it to the hospital with plenty of time!

@MapleMoose: woot woot to passing the test!
@char54: we are moving 7/30 and I'm dying to set up the nursery -- I can't imagine waiting until August! I bet you'll have so much fun getting baby stuff this weekend, though And I totally cry every time I watch that show!
@meltini: that's so great about the ultrasound in a few weeks! Is it a routine thing? I have my next appointment on Monday I'm going to ask if there are any more...I feel like there should be!

  11. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

I know someone mentioned this before but it always seems like there's 1 early baby for each group. August's baby twist is on its way it's crazy to think that we're next!

  12. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: this is my plan too. Showers this weekend then a huge list of we need XYZ to finish the nursery. I've been dying to finish it for weeks now but wanted to wait for the showers.

@jetsa: I know, isn't that crazy!!?? I started my biweekly appointments today.... I had a new doctor who is FABULOUS, I just love her. She's so motherly and kind. I'm going to schedule the rest of my apts with her and hopefully LO will decide to make his/her appearance on a day she is working!

She was able to tell that the baby was head down and so I hope baby stays that way! Crazy we are getting so close to meeting out LOs. I can't wait to hold this baby in my arms!!

  14. Meltini

@MamaMagpie: It seems routine in my doctor's office since I am having a normal pregnancy. Definitely ask!

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@char54: don't you love great doctors?! Makes such a difference And glad to hear baby is head down! My LO is too and the midwife I'd he'd likely stay that way now but will flip-flop from side to side Somehow it makes it seem more real/closer!
@meltini: thank you, I definitely will ask!

  16. MapleMoose

@jetsa: It's so crazy how fast things go after the first trimester. Wonder if we will have any late October babies too. Very real possibility for me since I'm due the last day of September

  17. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MapleMoose: My guess is I'll have an October baby, just moms intuition that this little one will stay put as long as possible :). I'm due the 22nd though.

  18. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

Maybe that's the next thing we should add to our due date list-guess when he/she will be born, weight and length? I go in tomorrow for my next appt and I'm really hoping he's head down!

  19. MrsStormy

    clementine / 818 posts

@jetsa: Twists baby totally made me wonder about who the first would be from this group! Also, my shower is this weekend too, can't wait to hear how so many showers go this weekend!

@MamaMagpie: I am having another ultrasound next week also, which I didn't realize I was going to be having either, so I would ask, you never know.

@MapleMoose: I suspect I will have an October baby since I'm not due until the very end of Sept. but I'm hopeful that I'm wrong !

I am exhausted today, we had a company picnic/ bbq yesterday to celebrate a new fiscal year, and we were out in the sun, swimming, doing team building exercises for like 4 hours, it really wore me out! Today I feel pooped and sore!

  20. jetsa

@mamamagpie: Thanks! After my doctor's comment about gaining 6 lbs last month I'd been so careful to only gain 1 lb in two weeks. But I realized that all of my appts have previously been in the morning and today mine is in the afternoon so it will likely read that I gained much more unless I barely eat today.

I just had this realization that people are seriously last minute shoppers, I just logged onto our registry to do my last bit of stalking, as of yesterday only 11 things had been purchased off our target registry, just now 27 things had been purchased, crazy! I actually didn't look at what had been bought though, I had a little restraint!

Ok seriously I am EXHAUSTED!! I feel like I haven't been on here for ages.. so here's what happening with me:

Hello 30 weeks! Seriously 30 weeks.. how did this happen... people who I keep seeing say "ohh I had my baby at 34 weeks" or "at 36 weeks... not long to go"... this is freaking me out! Lol I can't believe he could be here so soon!!!

We finally got a moving date... the removalists arrival on the 23rd of July and pack us up. Then they unload at our new house on the 29th of July. DH has to work 2 days after they pack so we are staying in a hotel. Then we have 4 travel days to get to our new house. It's a 1818km (1129miles) journey... wowza.. People kept telling me to fly, but at 32 weeks I am not comfortable doing that.. and it would also mean I would be away from my husband for a week. No thanks!! The new house looks nice.. its another 3x1 and looks a little smaller from the photos I have seen to where we currently are now, but we'll see when we get there and it's not like we have a choice BUT I am very excited in the fact that there is a spot for a dishwasher, so I promptly went out and bought one... a new mum present for myself! lol

I finally found some comfortable nursing bras after looking around for AGES! and the sales lady helped me pick a correct size for when my milk comes in (using the fist rule) and I am a 12G!!! eeeeek I think that's 36G in the US... wow...lol. I have also bought all my postpardum healing items and stuff for my hospital bag.. so will have all that packed for when we move just incase...

I am pretty sure bub is still breach, but I'm not going to worry about that yet.. there is still plenty of time. Definitely struggling with sleeping comfortably, my hips and side go numb and my back is starting to feel the strain. I have gained 3kg (6.6 pounds) from my pre-pregnancy weight, so I am pretty happy with that. I am sure I will balloon up alot at the end though.! I am curious about having another scan too.. I want to know if we will get one to measure his size etc.....

All in all, we are both sooooo excited to meet the little guy, he moves so strongly now, sometimes I think he is trying to escape! lol. Hope everyone is well and looking forward to reading more updates from everyone!!

@MapleMoose: I will feel ALOT better once we are in our new house!! We are very lucky that DH's work packs everything for us and moves it all, and we are hiring a cleaner to clean the house afterwards so I won't have to do much at all

@mrsstormy: I've been purposely trying to avoid my registry sites these past few days because I know people are last minute shoppers. I want to have some surprise at least as I'm horrible at faking it. So happy you have so many gifts bought! This weekend's shower is my smaller shower, so I'm not anticipating a ton.
@mrssquirreld: Yay for getting a dishwasher! I lived one year without one and will never do it again. What's the fist rule? I still need to get nursing bras and nursing clothes. I've bought most of my postpartum items but not all of my hospital stuff and I really need to get it packed soon. Good for you for being so on top of it! Oh and our little bub is still breech too. I'm feeling ok about a c-section though if it comes to that.

AFM, we just had our childbirth class (Fri and Sat) and it was really educational. I think my biggest take away was that wow this is gonna hurt and DH is gonna have to work really hard to get me to relax during it all. And I need to start writing down my birth plan for my provider. I wasn't going to, but I think it's important since I want some things which aren't 100% routine. It really made having a baby feel real though...like I actually feel like labor isn't forever away. What did you guys think about your childbirth classes?

  38. Joanlindsay

    grape / 98 posts

@marionberry I really liked my childbirth class with my first pregnancy. I just felt like I had a lot more information about things, especially things I wasn't really interested/considering like an epidural - which I ended up getting. So it was nice to have a basic understanding of he procedure which I wouldn't have otherwise.

It's really weird this time not to be taking any classes no birth class, no breast feeding class, I sort of feel like a slacker

It was good to tour the hospital - different building from my first delivery but delivery still seems a ways off I guess. I know it's coming but it's still early to do new baby's laundry and install the carseat plus, I'm really trying to savor these last few weeks as a mama of one sweet girl, it's a little bittersweet - any other repeat mamas feeling like this?

Also a quick suggestion to add to your post partum list if you haven't already - nursing pads - I didn't realize how much leaking there would be in the beginning and it was a mess I had to send a girlfriend out for them. I like the washable ones, but I know others swear by the disposables. Either way make sure to have a handful ready so you don't end up with a soaking wet shirt, bra etc.

@marionberry: the fist rule is, when you are trying on nursing bras if you comfortably can fit your fist in the cup then that's the right size for when your milk comes in. Also make sure you have one or two extra rows of hooks free on your back to allow for when your milk comes in. If not dont go up a size just get a bra extender that way when your milk regulates you can take the extender off and your bra will still fit! Hope that makes sense!
