@char54 ahhh! Aren't we due like the same day?! I am not ready to even think about that yet!

    I am sure I won't deliver until 41 weeks

    @char54: omg crazy!

So I've had what i think are BH contractions all day, it's starting to freak me out. No regular pattern and for the most part 1-2 per hour but my hubby is on his last out of town trip so I'm not a fan lol.

@char54: holy crap! I'm not ready yet!!!

@jetsa: I have been having BH contractions for a couple weeks now and although they aren't painful, I totally feel you on the "freak out" thing...hang in there and just remember that it's our bodies' way of getting everything ready Oh, and call the doctor as much as you want to ease your mind

@MamaMagpie: so glad to hear this. Thank you!

@char54: Ahh we are getting closer and closer!!

@Mrs squirreld: Soo... When can I come visit?

@char54: @mrsclownfish: All of the girls giving birth at 35 weeks in the August Moms group really has me trying to prepare as much as I can now. At least my last shower is this weekend so we can buy anything we're missing after that. I'm going on a trip with my mom and sisters the following weekend (August 9-11) and I'm really worried about what happens if I go into labor. Praying that won't be an issue but you never know!

Guys, this is totally freaking me out! We haven't even taken classes yet! And we are moving tomorrow so the nursery hasn't even been started! I'm really really hoping this little guy doesn't decide to come early...

  8. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: As long as they're BH and not real ones you're ok. The one thing I learned from my classes was how to tell the difference, thank God.
@mamamagpie: Try not to stress. The reality is we should all have at least 2-3 weeks, if not many more. And even if it happens early and you're unprepared, you and the baby really need very little to survive.

  9. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: so what's the main difference? These have no pain but are just a tightening of the muscles. Our class is Saturday!

  10. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

@jetsa: We learned at our class the 5-1-1 rule for contractions. 5 minutes apart, each contraction lasting 1 minute in duration, and this combination going on for 1 hour. The BH won't be timeable because they're irregular. Of course if your water breaks then you call your Dr and head to the hospital because they want that baby delivered within 24 hours to reduce infection.

  11. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MapleMoose: I've heard the 5-1-1 rule, is there anything that actually makes BH contractions different or just that they aren't timetable?

  12. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

@jetsa: The way the nurse explained it, BH are localized, only a part of your abdomen will get hard. Real contractions can start at the back and wrap around or vice versa, or feel like menstrual cramps that just won't go away when you change what you're doing, like go for a walk if you've been sitting or put your feet up if you've been moving.

  13. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MapleMoose: that makes sense, mine are definitely BH. My stomach was lopsided last night due to them

@MamaMagpie: I'm in the same boat - we move August 23rd so as long as the baby holds off until then when we can get the nursery set up! Worst comes to worst we would set up the crib somewhere in our current place and live in chaos for a little while.

DH works about 45 minutes away in a remote location that has spotty Internet service and no cell reception. This morning he sent me a bunch of numbers that I could get ahold of him at if he isn't in his office ... He is kicking it in high gear now trying to get prepared, lol.

  15. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: Yes the back part seems to be the easiest way to tell. I get the cramping a lot lately but it's sporadic and just feels like period cramps. Usually they just mean I'm not hydrated enough.

ugh today is a bad day for cramps/BH/general discomfort! it feels like this baby is trying to crawl out!
i think we pinpointed her position though - and she is head down at least... but he elbows are jabbing me in the stomach and her legs are up under my ribs on the right side...

hoping she stays put until September! we are supposed to attend a wedding that is an hour away from home on the 31st of August... a bit nervous about that. then again, perhaps she will come early enough that she will attend the wedding with us!

  17. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@marionberry: thank you, you're right! Haha I needed that virtual "get ahold of yourself, woman!"
@char54: ok, I won't complain about not yet setting up the nursery...at least I am moving today! I feel your pain, though!

That is very good info on how to tell BH contractions from regular/real ones! Especially the 5-1-1 rule!

So I'm currently sitting in my apartment with my feet up while a crew of moving men are packing all of our stuff up...it feels really weird. Weird because I'm not helping, and weird because these dudes are going through all our stuff (although I'm sure they couldn't care less about the messy state of our spare closet!). I did, however, have the good sense to pre-pack my underwear drawer!

I have not experienced any Braxton Hicks yet. However, my new favorite pregnancy related symptom is fluid in my ear which make me feel like I am on a plane all day and my ear won't pop

I do not know when my baby shower is (it is a surprise) but people have started to buy items off our registry. So far I am most excited about my UppaBaby Cruz stroller (which is coming in the mail today) and the Baby Bjorn travel crib that we are getting

@MamaMagpie while I am not moving I totally feel you about not helping with things. I am a total control freak but have recently been letting my husband take over tasks (painting) because I am just too tired to do it

@MamaMagpie: You're so smart for hiring movers!! We are doing it ourselves, but luckily have lots of family and friends to help. I'm off this summer (I'm a teacher) so I've been slowly going through rooms throwing/donating stuff which has cut down on the clutter. I just can't wait to be all moved in and set up finally! Good luck with the move!

@MrsClownfish: OOoo those are both great presents!!! I didn't set up a registry so have no idea what I'll be getting this weekend at my shower, lol. As the day gets closer I'm getting more excited!

  21. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@MamaMagpie: I hope I didn't come off mean! I just know that I stress out a lot about those types of things and that's what I remind myself often. I'm so jealous you get help moving! We couldn't afford that and man did it kill me. I won't ever try to move while pregnant again.

@mrsclownfish: A surprise shower has got to be fun! I'm too much of a planner to probably allow that, but I wish I could.

@mrsmoreau: BH and partial loss of your mucous plug...I definitely think you may be first to deliver!

@char54: What inspired you not to do a registry? How did your friends and family like it? I would be really worried we'd only get clothes if we did that.

  22. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@marionberry: no one really does registeries around here...we are such a small town that the nearest Babies R Us is 2 hors away. There is a small gift store that has baby things so I just put a few things aside and gave my sister a list of things we needed in case anyone asked her. Hopefully being team green cuts down on the number of clothes!

  23. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@marionberry: oh my gosh, not at all!!! It was exactly what I needed to hear and it made me much calmer
I give you major kudos for packing yourself! It's 8:00pm here and the guys literally just left and have to come back tomorrow to unpack! Ugh no fun

  24. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@char54: Interesting. That makes sense though. We have stores about 30-45 mins away and even that's a pain. Hopefully people do ask your sister and you get everything you actually need.

@mamamagpie: You are just gonna be so happy when you get to start unpacking and set up your nursery! We've been slowly putting up things in ours and I just love it! I'm almost trying to spread it out so that I always have something new to work on.

  25. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@char54: I thought it would for us and it did not, I got like 15 newborn sleep and plays...needless to say I have quite a few things to exchange for larger sizes.

  26. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@jetsa: oh rats!! I actually have like no clothes for this poor baby though so wouldn't mind a few gender neutral things...but not 20 duck onesies, lol. I have an outfit to bring the baby home from the hospital and that's it. I think once LO is here and we know the gender Ill send my mom out to pick some essentials up. Everyone always says that you get tons of clothes after the baby is born though so I really don't know how much I need to start out.

  27. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@char54: yea, I just couldn't believe everyone bought newborn. What if the child is big (he/she was over 4 lbs at 31 weeks), newborn clothes go to 8 lbs. I bought 45 used items online for $30 so I had some newborn /0-3 so I'm just exchanging for bigger sizes

  28. MrsClownfish

    cherry / 199 posts

@char54 @jetsa We are team green so really haven't bought many clothes. I told my sister when the baby is born I will give her my credit card and she can go down the road to the Gap and pick out a bunch of cute stuff

had my 34 week check up last night - everything was good but the beeb's heartrate was a bit low. Doc said not to worry as long as she is still active. could have something to do with the fact that my doc had an emergency surgery in the middle of the day which put him behind schedule so i had to wait an hour and 45 minutes to see him!!! so i was starving b/c my appointments are always right at dinnertime.

going to go weekly now, can't believe we are so close. strep test and cervical check (eek!) next tuesday!

  30. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@mrsmoreau: Aah! That's so exciting. I can't believe you're almost to cervical checks and a strep test! I can't wait for weekly appointments and anything that means my baby is almost here.

@jetsa: because we dealt with IF for so long we had bought a lot of clothes ourselves before we were even pregnant. We focused on later month sizes because we knew people would opt for newborn clothes. Then when we made our registries I added notes at the top that we'd prefer items from our registry over clothes. It has worked so far. We have our last shower (the bigger one) this weekend so we'll see if it works there too. I think you said your showers are over but it might be something to try with your next baby.

  31. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: I think people just like to buy clothes. I had no clothes on my registry & I'm not totally sure anyone looked at my registrys anyway. It's fine just a little bit of extra work for me

  32. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: I agree that people like to buy clothes! Prior to being pregnant that's what I always used to buy people for showers. Now that I understand all you have to buy for baby, I don't think I'll ever buy clothes again (at least not as the only item). At this point I'd rather get a $20 diaper pail than a $30 outfit.

Gah so pregnant lady emotional moment of the day. I have to go get my SUV and return this rental today and my husbands out of town. The 2 places to do this are in different towns 8 miles apart and I don't have anyone close to ask to help, I could ask a coworker but ehhh. In the normal world I realize this is no big deal, yet right now I could cry.

Ladies we are having babies next month!!...and some will probably be born this month!

  36. Charm54

@jetsa: I hear you...I have a lot of crap errands to do today - bank and lawyer for house/mortgage stuff ... normally it wouldn't overwhelm me but I am feeling so bogged down. DH is so much better with that stuff!

On the upside - you're right - babies next month!!! That is SO crazy to me. I am starting to get really excited

It's funny because I still don't feel super pregnant...last night DH said we should park in the expectant mothers parking since I was so tired...I was shocked he would suggest that because those spots were for "really pregnant people!" He laughed and said "hate to tell you, but with a month to go you're *really* pregnant!"

I'm also still surprised when random people ask me when I'm due....I feel like it isn't obvious and my belly has a ways to go before it gets to be noticeable but apparently that's all in my head!! I'm looking forward to these last 6-7 weeks and enjoying nesting, relaxing and enjoying my last first pregnancy!

  37. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@jetsa: It's crazy! I looked at one of my registries yesterday and it said I only had 50 days until he was born. I couldn't believe it!

My friend took maternity pics for us last night. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

  38. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: Yay! I hope they look amazing. Ours are tuesday! What did you wear? Also I have 51 days and DH swears the baby is coming early!

@jetsa: Wow! Next month, or possibly THIS month!! That's so soon!

@char54: That's so nice you have an expectant mothers' parking area! We have mother & baby or disabled and that's it. Usually Dh has to let me out of the car before he parks it, or I can never get out!

@jetsa: & @char54: Hope your errands go well today!

AFM, not a whole lot going on. Have my first antenatal class tomorrow; labour workshop, which I'm looking forward to. I had so much cramping at the beginning of this week that I ended up calling the emergency midwife line to make sure I wasn't about to go into labour or something!! That's gone again now, so just feeling a little tired, nauseous & heartburn-y, but otherwise fine. Oh and also, I think baby has turned... she was head down for like, ever and then yesterday I think she decided she'd had enough of that spent about half an hour shifting around and has ended up hammock style, if her hiccups are anything to go by! Oh well, see what the midwife thinks when I see her next week.
