@marionberry frivolous stuff is what I miss most from pre baby. Things that we still do but now we have to get A sitter. Pedicures, movies, long lunches and window shopping. You can still do everything you used to you are just at the mercy of your
Tiny dictator.

@Joanlindsay: HAHA I love that, "tiny dictator"! I'm going to lunch with a friend Friday. I may have to add in a mani/pedi this weekend and some shopping so that I can feel like I got it all in. If I'm lucky, maybe even a girlie movie!

Emily Elizabeth born September 3rd at 11:39 am!
7lbs 10oz and 21 inches long.
This is the first chance I have had to write a post, the day has flown by. She is wonderful but we have to see a pediatric orthopedist because one of her hips is slightly loose. But it shouldn't be a major problem so I am thanking God for that.
Got to the hospital at 7am, the doc broke my waters and started the pitocin drip at 8:20 after taking all the bloodwork for the pre-eclampsia (all normal btw)
Contractions started almost immediately and were coming on strong. I finally caved and asked for an epidural at 11am. I was 6.5 cm at that point.
However, Emily had other plans and by the time the anesthesiologist got here I was ready to start pushing. 5 minutes (not exaggerating- i even checked my chart) of pushing later she was here without an epidural! Cord was wrapped around her shoulder but otherwise she came out without any issue. Scored a 9 on her apgar!
As for me I tore a little bit and broke pretty much all of the blood vessels around my eyes but I feel fabulous and I am so happy that I ended up epidural- free.
Sorry such a long post!

@marionberry: I am sorry it didn't work but now you have plenty of prep time for a section rather than having an emergency section .... There is always a silver lining. *hugs*

@mrsmoreau: Adorable and I love the smile on her face!! Congratulations!!

@mrsmoreau: Congratulations on Miss Emily! She is so cute! And you made it without an epidural! That is so awesome. I'm sorry you tore but glad the little one is perfectly healthy and your pre-e symptoms should now go away. Share more pics as the days go by. I love seeing the little ones! And you're right about the silver lining - at least I'll get to see my baby as soon as he's born and we've been able to arrange for DH's time off perfectly so that he doesn't have to take many days. My family is really freaked out though that he's gonna be born on Friday the 13th. I really could care less.

@duckduckkristen: Hurray!! Congrats! Hope you are doing well- can't wait to hear more!
@mrsmoreau: oooooooooooh she is adorable! what a crazy fast labor! Hope you heal quickly! Congrats

@mrsmoreau: ohh she's beautiful! What a quick labor! We discussed induction at my appt today and your story gives me hope that if it happens it won't be bad, I have a horrible scenario built up in my mind.

@duckduckkristen: yay! congrats first September Mama!!
@mrsmoreau: She's beautiful! Look how happy and alert she looks! Love her name too
@marionberry: Dh was born on Friday 13th and fwiw he's one of the most lucky people I know, so it must have worked out for him!

@illumina: That makes me feel so much better! Thank you for sharing that!
My mobile came in last night and I love it! DH says he'll put it up tonight and then I'll post pics.

@mrsmoreau: Congrats! She's beautiful! I am also nervous about possibly being induced next week, so this makes me happy that it can happen fast!

@duckduckkristen: Congratulations on the first September baby!
@mrsmoreau: She is gorgeous, and such a pretty name! Sounds like you did awesome, I can not believe how fast it was, and good for you for no epidural. Congratulations!!!!
@marionberry: I'm sorry about the procedure not going as planned, but I totally agree with the others, the end is in sight, you know the day you get to meet your little one, woohoo!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@marionberry: Sorry to hear about the painful procedure. But I think you're smart to take comfort in knowing you did what you could. And now, you have a specific date to look forward to! And tell your family who cares that it's Friday the 13th. I'm a numbers gal, and I think it's super cool that baby Berry will be born on 9.13.13! So fun!
Take good care of yourself and enjoy these days before your son arrives!

@sweetooth: Thanks! I like that birthdate too!
@mrsstormy: Thank you! I am SO counting down now!
@pmerr: They put my friend on pitocin because she had high bp and wanted to speed up her labor and she did the whole thing in 3 hours! So not all inductions are slow. Hope this gives you hope!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@marionberry: @pmerr: it definitely gives me hope.
@pmerr: are you at ease with the induction? It sounds like I'm going to have a choice at 39 weeks and I don't know what to do. My close family thinks I should just wait it out but the potential pre-e onset has me scared.
apricot / 251 posts
@jetsa: @pmerr: I was super nervous about being induced, but it was fine! The pitocin definitely causes your contractions to be longer and more intense right away- that was the biggest issue I faced. I went from no contractions to every 2-3 minutes almost immediately. That was a bit scary. But then again it is different for everyone. But my induction experience was a positive one for sure.

@marionberry: Being born on Friday the 13th makes a great story. Plus how many people do we actually know in real life who have ever had extra bad luck just because it was a certain date on a Friday? Rumors I tell ya!

Well it's 1am here and I'm up rolling on my yoga ball, cause my back is killing and I'm cramping. I'm not sure I can time them, but it's definatley too uncomfortable to sleep. Although I am sitting here panicking about the things I haven't done yet. Haha. Argh the unknown is so frustrating sometimes.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Mrs squirreld: I hear you. I had to rock out on my yoga ball last night because I had such cramping and lower back pain. The episode lasted for a few hours but nothing was regular/timeable. Just long periods of sharp pains. Guess things are getting prepared. Have you had any other symptoms? That was the first episode for me.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@MapleMoose: this is the second time I've felt like they are more "contraction like" rather than just an ache or random cramp... But how can you really tell... I guess aslong as they aren't regular or gaining pace they aren't the real thing. I like thinking its my body preparing though. But I wish I could get the frustration that my car is not vacuumed and cleaned out of my head... Hahaha a job for tomorrow I guess!! Lol
pomelo / 5469 posts
@MapleMoose: @Mrs squirreld: they are such weird pains aren't they? I woke up in the middle of the night last night with them. It was 3am and I was thinking "please don't let this be labour because I'll end up having to leave for the hospital in rush hour!". I was reading a bit about the latent phase of early labour and it sounds like this and that it can go on for 2-3wks!
nectarine / 2522 posts
@illumina: so much for being rested for labor then huh!! I feel like I'm hardly sleeping these days and if this can go on for weeks??!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Haha nesting at it's finest!
@illumina: 2-3 weeks?! Oh joy...
nectarine / 2522 posts
@MapleMoose: @illumina: I guess I'm convinced they aren't real yet cause I haven't lost my mucus plug... Although I've heard some women don't notice when they do??!
pomelo / 5469 posts
@Mrs squirreld: @MapleMoose: What I should have said was "up to 2-3wks"!! Some people will only spend a couple of hours in this phase! I can pretty much just ignore mine and carry on with whatever I'm doing, as I used to get really bad period pains for at least a day per month and these feel pretty similar.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Mrs squirreld: The nurse who led our birthing class said that too, not everyone notices losing their mucus plug. Either way you're progressing and that's exciting!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@illumina: I was able to walk (gingerly) through the food store but then they started hurting worse as the night wore on so I had to go bounce on the yoga ball. I was still able to talk through them so they weren't absolutely terrible, but certainly uncomfortable with sharp pangs. They went from cramps to shooting pains. I figured it was just things stretching out.
pomelo / 5469 posts
@Mrs squirreld: I wouldn't be too sure. I think the order of events; losing mucus plug, water breaking, labour can be different for different people. As in sometimes those happen before labour and for some it's once labour is already established. From what I've read on here it seems like ladies who have cervical examinations in late pregnancy are more likely to lose their mucus plug in the weeks/days leading up to labour than those who don't have them. I wonder if there's a correlation... I also think having a cervical exam speeds up the process as we don't have them in the UK and for most first time Mum's they go overdue (at least everyone I know), whereas in the US they are more common and on HB it seems that ALOT of first time mamas deliver early.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@illumina: hmmmm I won't be having cervical checks at all so it will be interesting to see... I'm 38 weeks... I can't imagine being pregnant for another 2-4 weeks!!!
nectarine / 2522 posts
@MapleMoose: as part of my relaxation techniques for hypnobirthing I like to imagine the cervix stretching and relaxing... I find it really helps me relax

@duckduckkristen: Congratulations, mama!!! Hope you and LO are doing really really well!
@mrsmoreau: Great job!!! She is gorgeous and I'm so happy for you that you had a good experience and are feeling so good!!!
@marionberry: Wow, what a painful-sounding procedure, but it sounds like you handled it like a champ -- no surprise there. I'm a little behind on this thread, but as I was catching up it seems like you're feeling a little more comfortable with the planned c-section and I just keep thinking "you get to know what your LOs birthday will be!" That's a good silver lining
I've been having lots of cramping and lower back pain as well, and it's frustrating! After I lost my mucus plug on Sunday afternoon, it seems so anticlimactic! I know they say it could still be two weeks from losing the plug, but you just hear all the time how quickly people go into labor after that! Oh well, I know things are progressing and he will come out eventually!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@maplemoose: @mrssquirreld: @illumina: I'm sorry you're all enduring these painful cramps that don't appear to be contractions. That has to suck. I had ordered a yoga ball after hearing you all talk so positively about it, thinking it would be great prior to delivery and now I'm not delivering, so hopefully it'll be good to work out with after the baby is here. As far as mucous plugs, I've heard you often don't know you lose it because you may lose it at night when you go to the bathroom, and if you're like me, you're not turning the light on to check.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: I love my yoga ball. I even just sit on it when watching TV etc. helps my back pain so much I've heard they are also sometimes useful for settling baby on. I'm the same as you, I never turn on the light when I get up to pee at night... Never thought of that!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@illumina: Hmm... interesting!!
@marionberry: True, I've gotten pretty good at nighttime bathroom trips in the dark
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MamaMagpie: I am proud of myself for getting through that yesterday and coming more to terms today about having the c-section. After posting for advice and reading another thread about peoples' c-section stories I actually feel lucky because a planned c-section is so much nicer than a woman who labors for a day and then ends up with one. This way I know to pack for staying at the hospital 4 days and things like that. I did have an emotional breakdown with DH last night about it though, and he said to me "I know you're a control freak, but you can't control this, so you've got to start just taking it day by day". It helped a little, but I'm still stressing about things like who's going to get dsd back and forth while we're in the hospital and how are we going to function as parents living downstairs on our couch, etc. So I'm a mixed bag lol.
