September 2014 Mummas - Come out where ever you are!

Hi everyone. Our appointment at the RE went great! I got dated at 6 weeks and 6 days (so 7 weeks exactly today). My EDD is 9/16 and we had a strong heartbeat. We have never gotten to see a heartbeat with our priors, so this was a huge step.

The nurse didn't say what the actual heartrate was, but she said it was "perfect." She released me to a regular OB/GYN and said that while its still early, everything looks great. The ultrasound was transvaginal. I think by the time we have our next US, it will look like a gummy bear, but yesterday the baby just looked like a pinto bean.

It was the silver lining to an otherwise awful day. I was the sickest I've been this whole pregnancy (heartburn, nausea, gagging, constipation, then the runs, and gas all at once!). I literally went to bed at 630pm last night (between waking up 4 times to chug water and eat crackers). I'm glad my MS means our bean is sticking, but good night, this is just the worst!

DH and I had Zofran leftover from various surgeries so I took half a dose last night and another half this morning. It seems to be helping - just feel lightly queasy today - so hopefully I can get some work done!

Good luck to everyone else on their appointment!

I got a seaband this morning and it is amazing.

On the flip side, I'm eating everything in sight.

@gingerbebe: Wohoo! I love ultrasound pictures! You're similar to where I am (I think I'm 6w5d today)...so that's cool for me to gage where I am too Hoping your MS gets better!

I tried out my unisom/b6 combo last night and it made a world of difference today! I still don't feel 100% - maybe 70%? But it's a huge improvement so I'm pretty happy

@Mrs. Jump Rope: glad to hear the sea bands help you! I'll keep that on my list of things to try next!

@Littlebit: my RE didn't want to prescribe zofran. She told me to try a seaband.. If it doesn't continue on an improvement path, I'll ask my OB for a script next week and see what she says.

My first prenatal is next Wednesday!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: haha glad that helps. I got it for my previous pregnancy and it was no help. I should look for it to see if it helps with this one.

@gingerbebe: awww your lil bean is beautiful!

yay for a great appointment @gingerbebe! So exciting! Sorry you aren't feeling good still...

Yesterday and today I have felt surprisingly good... like, pretty much normal. No sea bands or meds either. Of course, the messed up part of my brain worries that something is wrong... head games = so fun!

@psw27: I haven't been experiencing much in terms of symptoms, so of course I go think bad thoughts. Sometimes I wish I had morning sickness to at least indicate that things are alright...

  10. psw27

    pomelo / 5220 posts

@gksj funny how on Sunday I was in tears over how crappy I felt, now I'm starting to feel normal and I'm almost in tears over that. I think the hormones are still kickin' full gear!

I have had plenty of friends with 0 morning sickness who had healthy, wonderful pregnancies so I know its okay either way and I'm sure everything is totally fine with you too!!

@gingerbebe: I'm so glad things went well!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I'm glad the sea band is helping.

@Littlebit: I'm glad your meds are helping!

@psw27: I went through a period where symptoms came and went. I'm pretty sure that's very normal.

    nectarine / 2932 posts

@gksj: I felt the same way before I got the MS. I know several women that never had MS, though! So I would *try* not to worry - though I know that's easier said than done!

@psw27: LOL, I cried Saturday over how horrible I felt. But it was more because I kept thinking 'How the hell am I supposed to do this for weeks?!!?!?' Hormones, you little witch.

@gingerbebe: Love the photo! We are only a couple of days apart, so that's fun to see!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Lucky you! I've been wearing bands on both my wrists and not one bit of a difference. I hope it keeps working for you, especially since it seems Zofran is doing nothing for me, so I'd had to recommend it if it doesn't work great.

@Littlebit: I might need to try that. I'm desperate.

@psw27: Lol the hormones are crazy. I kept seeing a commercial of someone crying and it set me off lol.

  15. psw27

    pomelo / 5220 posts

seriously @littlebit and @boogs the hormones are out of control. The crying is my biggest thing. Also, I think I might have to get some new bras.... let's just say when I get home that's the first thing to go... ouch!

@psw27: I have some larger ones tucked away, but had to finally pull one out yesterday.

@psw27: @Boogs: I don't know if you're having the same issue but my problem so far has been them being too tight on the band, so I bought some extenders on ebay! Cheap and they shipped pretty fast!

@Boogs: you know, it very well could be placebo effect but I don't give a damn. It took a good hour or two for it to "kick in". My nurse said her patients swear by them, but everyone here doesn't like them! So.. Who knows!

As long as I can eat my Mexican tonight were good to go. It's ladies night & I do not want to gag on my guacamole.

  19. Boogs

    hostess / papaya / 10540 posts

    @Littlebit: Oh that's great, thanks!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Haha placebo or not, at least of works. I'm jealous my brain won't be tricked! And Mexican sounds so so good! I had a burrito the other day and since then it still is the only thing I want to eat. Maybe I need to propose we have Mexican at home tonight lol.

I love the sea bands @mrs. jump rope, they totally calmed me down the other day when my work computer was making me motion sick. Also, guacamole and salty tortilla chips sound amazing right now...

    OMG y'all...

    1. That half tab of Zofran is saving my life! Just mild queasiness today and I can actually enjoy food! Compared to yesterday when I felt like I was going. to. die. this is magical.

    2. Speaking of food, I wanted sushi SO BAD today so I went to the local Japanese place for lunch and they had a tempura shrimp roll on special. Score! I just inhaled it and it was pretty much the best thing ever.

@Boogs: I use this recipie for fried rice. http://www.skinnytaste.com/2012/04/asian-edamame-fried-rice.html

I don't have a wok, but my electric griddle gets the job done.

    @Torchwood: How was today?

  29. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Kate6214: I was writing this up as you commented! Thanks for checking in!

So I had my first appointment today with the midwife, and it went great! They had no concerns about me being high risk because of my losses, so that fear was totally unwarranted. It was SO much nicer than going to an ob/gyn. Granted, I've had some kind of crappy experiences with ob's, so I'm not the best judge, but I loved them at this office. I even got a copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth Book (http://www.amazon.ca/Our-Bodies-Ourselves-Pregnancy-Birth/dp/0743274865), which is awesome because I love reading about pregnancy and birth, and I needed a new book!

My first ultrasound will be the 10th, a week from Monday, so I'll be 10 weeks. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty nervous. The ultrasound where we found out there was no heartbeat on my first was after I was already 100% convinced it was gone (in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have thought that just from bleeding, but I just knew it was over, maybe just instinct), so it wasn't a shock, so I don't have that experience to fear, but I still just am scared. I was with my first ultrasound where everything was fine too, so I don't think I would be feeling any less worried even if I had had no losses. Oh well. They also drew some blood for testing, which, again, I'm a little nervous about. I have no reason to think anything will come back less than perfect, but it's all so hard to be sure about!

But I'm very happy to report a good visit after being so worried about it, and I'm going to just focus on that for now. Hooray for finding a provider I love!

@gksj: I am so with you! I've had only intermittent, very mild nausea, and I really wish I could have just occasional worse to reassure me! It doesn't help that my breast tenderness is almost totally gone, though I'm trying to attribute that to switching to a sports bra full time because I couldn't fit in my regular.

Also, I've read that magnesium can help prevent ms. I've been taking it for a couple years to help with, ah, digestive regularity (unfortunately it doesn't seem to be up for dealing with pregnancy constipation), so I do wonder if that's why I don't have any (and didn't with my previous pregnancies either).

Also, she said I'll see her every 5-6 weeks initially, so my next non-ultrasound appointment (they don't even do those, they send you elsewhere) is in early March. Don't have a date yet.

@Torchwood: I'm glad you had a good experience and that you are feeling so good. I would take the fact that you need that sports bra as a good sign. I know my boobs have jumped a size.

@Kate6214: Thanks! And I suppose I should also be glad about the lack of soreness for DH's sake. He has not been happy that they're getting bigger but he couldn't touch.

@Kate6214: Thanks! I love ST and that seems easy enough.

@gingerbebe: Yum, I miss sushi! I got to eat some last week and even though it was cooked it so hit the spot! Nothing like satisfying a craving.

Added my appointment. Just a checkup, I guess, but I'll be 9 weeks and change and that's when my first stopped growing, so just a tad bit nervous.

@Torchwood: glad u had a great appt! Although 5-6 weeks seems like a long time. That's just me though. My obs all saw me at 4 weeks.

@Torchwood: Congrats to you too on a great appt! Must be such a relief to have a doc/mw you feel comfortable with.
I'm hoping my RE recommends someone good, because I'm just not sure I want to go back to my old doc.
Try not to stress too much about the first ultrasound (I know, easier said than done).
