@sweetiepie: can I ask how far along you'll be for your NT scan? I thought most scans would/could only show gender from later on, say 18 weeks onwards? Very exciting to find out so early!

Is anyone else eating for king and country? My appetite is seriously unbelievable, I had breakfast twice today and it's now 11.20 and I'm starving again. If this keeps up I'll be the size of a hippo by the time September comes around...
I did put on over 40 pounds last time so perhaps that's just what my body does. DH was shocked when we checked in to the hospital and he realised I weighed more than him! On the plus the weight did come off fairly easily and by the time LO was six months I was same weight as when I got married, ie a lot less than when I fell pregnant. I'd still prefer to be one of those people that didn't balloon in pregnancy!

@London Mama: I'm not finding out gender from the NT scan itself. We did IVF with PGD testing. Basically they tested the embryos for genetic abnormalities since I am a "carrier" of Trisomy 18 and 20. So since they looked at the baby's chromosomes, they already know gender. We could have known at transfer what the gender was, but we wanted to wait till the NT at least. The NT scan is right across from my RE's office so they put the report in an envelope and we'll pick it up and decide if we want to look after the NT

@Pancakes: my advice is to be patient and slow, start low & twist the wand in a circle as you have it on your belly. I can find the HB pretty easily now, but I've got to have the wand at a specific angle. I've played around with it and if I have it facing straight down, facing left or toward my pubic bone, I lose the HB! My peanut is found when I've got the wand a few inches below my belly button, to the right, with the wand tilted toward the left. Good luck!
@SweetiePie: I'm excited for you to find out!

11 weeks this morning and still a heartbeat. Whew! Every week makes this feel more and more real.
@Boogs: So I swear I felt that "ocean wave" sensation yesterday. That explains it well! I know I'm not feeling movement, but I'm feeling something. Like a pulse or my uterus twitching or something. But it does sort of move like a wave sometimes. Others it's clearly a twitch.

@SweetiePie: yay!
I'm 13w5d and today my ms came back with a vengeance. This is what I get for bragging I felt awesome the other day. Threw up this morning from making Chloe sausage & dry heaved over the dirty dishes I was putting in the dishwasher.
I think my husband is going out with friends tonight after work. I secretly wish he was home right now so I could curl up in the fetal position in our bed and not move.
This is need zofran bad! Torn on if I should take it. I've been enjoying the no-side effects....

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Mine came back hard this week - I've even had to take more Zofran than usual to cope and I'm 13w tomorrow. I'm just trying to tell myself the baby must be having a growth spurt because otherwise I want to tell it to piss off.
I am so tired today. Our house was FILTHY and we have Bible study at our house tonight and it NEEDED to get cleaned. I still have to steam mop the kitchen and bathroom floor, clean the guest bath, and prep a taco bar when I get home tonight, but I spent like 3-4 hours cleaning last night and I am exhausted. At the very least I was knocked out asleep in bed before 10pm (which is great for me because I swear this baby has its nights and days switched and I can't fall asleep before 11pm anymore and want to cry when the alarm goes off in the morning).
I think I'm going to defer my 3 hour glucose test an additional week. I got a reprieve last weekend bc I was sick, but I feel like I'm just starting to get better and I don't want a false reading (apparently your numbers run higher when you're sick).
Any plans for the weekend? Our's sorta kicked off today. DH and I randomly woke up early this AM (I guess with it getting lighter earlier) and we actually had breakfast together at McDonald's before work! (McD's sent us a bunch of coupons in the mail, so why not). I think we'll try to keep up with our tidying streak and try to pack up a bag of things to donate. We really need to clear through a lot of junk before the baby gets here. We also haven't written our budget for this month and have to get our bills in order. Hopefully baby behaves and I don't have another MS-induced vomit fest!

@sweetiepie so exciting you get to learn the gender so soon!
@mrs. jump rope @gingerbebe sorry about the MS surging back. It is weird how things change from day to day.
@london mama I am definitely eating a lot in the mornings. I am typically very, very hungry in the morning so I eat at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. then have lunch at 1 p.m. It tapers off in the afternoon but I am insatiable in the mornings!
Just told my whole office today - figured it was time! My one coworker knew already but I thought I should tell my boss. Everyone seemed really excited
I plan to tell my friends tomorrow at lunch, but I feel really awkward about it... I never know how they will react to this stuff.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@London Mama: Haha, I feel like I've been that way the entire time. I need to eat as soon as I wake up and it has to be pretty hearty - like a breakfast sandwich or a breakfast burrito with a coffee or tea. Then I usually need a piece of fruit by 9:30-10am, and then I fantasize about lunch starting at 11am. I can usually hold off until 12pm sharp but I'm REALLY ready to eat. I'll have more fruit and maybe a cold beverage of some sort around 2 or 3, I get ravenous at 4pm and often eat a really early dinner or a heavy snack around between 4pm and 5pm. Yesterday I ate so much between lunch and 4pm that I wasn't really hungry for dinner and finally ate something around 8pm. Then I needed fruit around 9pm. And then I went to sleep.

@London Mama: @psw27: I"m eating like crazy now too. MS seems to have tapered and I only feel really bad when I don't eat every two hours. (before it didn't matter how often I ate) So yes on eating at 7am, 9am, 11am and 1pm meals! I had to eat a banana while cooking dinner last night because I just couldn't wait the 15 minutes until it was ready!
Also, two nights now I have been so hungry when I've woken up to pee, that I downed an entire can of peaches at 3am. I had to restock! Don't know what it is about canned peaches but they are really hitting the spot.
I lost four lbs between weeks 6-8 and this week I gained three of them back... I know I'm going to start wincing when I step on the scale from here on out!
Belly seems to really be poochy the past three days. Maybe the beginnings of a REAL bump?
I've been reading and lurking the past week but not posting because it's so hard to wait for this dang 12-week appointment! It's Monday afternoon, so I'll have something to report after then.

@gingerbebe: sorry you're feeling so awful. I hate that it's day-to-day. Is the zofran helping? Can your husband pitch in with the housework tonight? I've been tired, too, and have sorely neglected our house.
@psw27: yay!
So, if anyone asks me if I've got cravings I say no. But my husband just pointed out that I am literally planning out entire weekend over when I can get a burrito.
And now I'm deeply embarrassed.

@LatteLove: OMG, I was craving canned peaches this week too! Have yet to eat them bc the strawberries have been really good at the store this week, but its on my list!
@Mrs. Jump Rope: Zofran is less effective this week, hence I'm taking it a little more often than every 8 hours - more like every 6. I think part of it is because I'm puking more and I think I end up losing some of the meds. DH definitely was helping me clean last night - its just some of the stuff he does isn't up to snuff. Like, I had to re-wash an entire washer full of dishes bc they were still so dirty and had crud on them. I really need to rewash and repolish all our silverware in the drawer, but I don't have the energy right now. And most of the time, its just us so I don't care if the Tupperwares aren't spotless. However, in general, anything related to kitchen cleaning he hasn't a clue about so I try to handle scrubbing the stove or kitchen floor or counters. But he's really good at recycling, vacuuming, laundry, garbage, and pest control so I'm generally happy.

@gksj: @tequiero21: I can't wait for nengmyun either. My dad's side is originally from North Korea, so we also really like kong-gook-soo. The Korean food needs have been high during pregnancy. I had suh-lung-tang for dinner the other night, soondae yesterday, a kimchi ramen for dinner, and I can't get enough jjajiangmyun. My mom is already asking me what she can send me in a care package so I'm going to take advantage!

@London Mama: I'm eating a TON. Like, way more than I feel like is reasonable. But I've gained 5 pounds, which is not bad, so I guess it's okay. If I gain a pound a week from now on I'll only be 6 pounds over the recommended gain for my size.
@tequiero21: Hooray for a little boy!! I think ya'll finding out might make it harder for me to stick with not. But we're really set on being team green.
@T.H.O.U.: Thanks, yes I'm definitely starting to feel really excited now! And my best friend is all excited because she can start buying me geeky baby stuff now.
@Littlebit: Yes, I feel like we're all getting to the point where we can stop worrying about things going wrong. I know I'm one of the earliest one, but since I'm 14w tomorrow, all of us should be in the second tri really soon!
I'm really looking forward to getting a doppler soon (cousin still says she's sending hers). They found the heartbeat literally the second the wand thing touched my belly, so I feel like surely that means things are well-placed to find it myself. I'm so excited now! And I was shocked at how high she said my uterus is, even after @Mrs. Jump Rope said where her's is. I guess I know now that that bit I've been poking at is, in fact, my uterus, like I was thinking it might be.
Also, got to hold my friend's 4 month old, and my cousin's new 5 day old baby today, so I'm just SO eager for this baby to get here now. They're so stinkin' sweet!

Appointment update! I was really confused when they said my anatomy scan would be in 6 weeks, because that seemed so early, and then I realized that I really would be 20 weeks (halfway!) in just 6 weeks. Holy crap ya'll!

I was just checking my cervix (which you're not really supposed to do, but I was curious to see how a pregnant cervix compared to a non-pregnant one), and then I was feeling sort of the base of it along what I assume is the lowest part of my uterus, and I swear I felt a distinct little thump against my finger. I'm like... 99% sure I didn't imagine it and that it wasn't any sort of muscle twitch or something of my own.

RE: Korean food. OMG my mom overnighted me banchan with ice packs to my house last night! 2 kinds of kimchi, kimchi jjigae, and 3-4 banchan, plus geem! And the sweetest card! I love my mommy!
Had a pretty good day. Couldn't sleep in (baby always wants breakfast at like 730am). So we had Mom's food for breakfast, a light lunch, a hard nap, and then a good dinner. Tonight for dinner, I really just wanted hot sourdough bread, salad, and a baked potato so we went to a steakhouse that offers all of the above. Its so funny when you get exactly what you've been dreaming of. I have been thinking about how good dinner was nonstop since we got home. (Also full disclosure, I stole half a loaf of sourdough from our basket and stuck it in our to-go box!)
What's odd is when they asked me what salad dressing I wanted, I immediately blurted out Thousand Island - which I haven't eaten in....over a decade? But OMG IT WAS SO GOOD ON MY SALAD. I couldn't stop yapping to DH about how good my salad was. LOL. I guess this kid knows what it wants.

Loved hearing everyone's eating stories, makes me feel better I'm not the only one!
We're night weaning LO nr 1 and he's started waking up between 4.30 and 5am, it's seriously a killer. Going to tough it out for a week and fingers crossed by next weekend it'll be better. Until then I'll have to go to bed by 9pm!

As of yesterday, I can absolutely feel the baby move. I forgot how cool/freaky it is!
By late afternoon yesterday, I was as sick as a dog. Sore throat, fever, chills, body aches. I slept from 8:300-2am when I got up and had a Popsicle, then went back to sleep until 9.
I've barely gotten out of bed today & am forcing myself to eat. I had the flu shot. What gives?!?
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: So cool you can feel baby! That sucks you are sick. I had that cold last weekend and it was the. worst. I cannot believe how terrible a cold is when you can't take a dang Dayquil. I had similar symptoms and lost my voice. DH went out and got me Jamba Juice twice a day for 3 days with vitamin boosts in them while I drank Gatorade and water at home and that helped a ton, esp. because I could just suck it down while laying in bed, keep my throat cold, and get some nutrients. Ice packs at the back of my neck and over my eyes really helped too, along with our humidifier and lots of hot showers. I took Tylenol and some plain Robitussin twice, but I have no idea how helpful they were. Hope you feel better soon!
My back is a mess the last few days. I can only seem to sleep on my left side with my arm tucked under my head and its making my neck and shoulder super tense and painful. My back is in knots! I have 2-3 pillows propped everywhere and between my legs but still its not getting it done. DH thinks its time to buy a Snoogle, but I hate that they are so expensive! Anyone have experience with these pillows? Are they worth it?
Cold water is making me sick lately. I can drink hot/warm water, but cold water literally makes me queasy. I can suck down cold beverages of other kinds just fine, so I don't know what the problem is. I've been drinking warm water almost exclusively the last few days, but its so weird. It sucks because I think the baby is needing more water or blood or something, because I'm feeling that early first trimester constant thirst again. If its not one thing, its another.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@gingerbebe: oh god so this is just a bitch of a cold? I hadn't mustered up the power for a shower yet. It's also been battle of the Popsicles with the toddler LOL
I personally love my snoogle. So comfy and I thought it was worth the price. I got mine on amazon 3 years ago. It got to be in the way once I was in third trimester but was my saving grace weeks 15-33 with Chloe.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: Yeah I called our emergency nurse because I felt so awful and I was afraid I had the flu or something. She said if I don't have a fever that's 100-102 early on (the first day or two) then its not the flu. Plain Robitussin, Tylenol, and Mucinex are okay to take for symptoms. I had some chest congestion and some sinus/tension headaches by the 3rd day, so I used the neti pot and gargled with salt water to keep things moving and it helped.
For me, I dragged myself to work days Days 1-2, took a sick day on Day 3, which was the worst day, laid in bed watching TV and drinking smoothies on Days 4-5 over the weekend, and was 80% better by Day 6. But my MS came back with a vengeance during that period and afterwards, so that was terrible.
Take a shower - it will help!
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@gingerbebe: omg. six days of this?
i'm glad to know mucinex is safe! i definitely feel some chest congestion. i think my husband and Chloe are enjoying my hoarse voice.
