@intotheocean: Haha! My sister was in the same situation. She didn't find out, but boy did she cry when they told her it was a girl. She wanted a girl so badly, but did NOT want to have a fourth kid!

We just had lo1's first birthday party and whoa I am beat. I wanted to cancel this morning I was feeling so bad. But pulled it together and it was actually really nice. Lots of babies playing nicely.

I can't wait to feel better

@maddyz: Hope you start feeling better soon! Have you tried Unisom and B6 or Diclegis? It might just be enough to make you go from totally miserable to just mildly miserable.

I had pancakes for breakfast this morning and I feel awful two hours later. So I checked my glucose and it's 150. I think I'm going to have GD again this pregnancy. Hopefully my midwife will write me a script for a new lancet device at my appointment. This is one time I'm glad T has diabetes so I can just check whenever I feel bad.

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@avivoca: I'm sorry to hear that what did you feel like after the pancakes? I've been feeling kind of off after eating lately and that combined with excessive thirst and a family history of GD has me a little worried. I didn't have it with my first pregnancy.

  6. avivoca

@Applesandbananas: I felt really tired, sluggish, and extremely thirsty. I'm feeling better now, so it must be coming down, but I am going to avoid high-carb meals from now on.

  7. Legowife

    coffee bean / 32 posts

@avivoca: that sounds awful, especially when you have had nausea too. I've definitely been carb loading this pregnancy as it's been the only thing that seemed enticing. I hope that things go better for you.

I've been very quiet here, finally had an appointment with the ob gyn on Monday. Got to see our little bean! Floating around with a heart beat. Such relief. I'm 9 weeks. I also just turned 35. They talked through our screening options, either the typical 12 week scan combined with a blood test screen which picks up 80% of problems, but 20% with problems slip through. The false positive rate is also really high. Or we could have the nipt which is a blood test with 99% accuracy. Is anyone else facing these choices? I'm not sure what I think. I know my dh would want the nipt but I'm not sure what I would want to do with the results. Sorry to bring up a difficult subject but I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies are going through the same thing?

  8. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@Legowife: Glad you got to see baby and all was well! First thing, can you check to see if the nipt is covered by your insurance? From what I've heard, it's only covered in certain situations. If it is covered and you only have to pay a small copay or something, then I think it's worth it for peace of mind. I'm doing the typical scan because I have high deductible insurance and I know it won't cover the nipt tests unless the scan comes back with a certain risk factor or I'm AMA (and I'm not AMA thank god for another year and a half).

@avivoca: Oh no! Are you doing the GD test early?

Anyone have heartburn already? What are you doing for it? I'm trying to find a better way to deal with it than Tums.

  9. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@MrsKoala: My midwife recommended Zantac because Tums last about five minutes. I have been taking one before breakfast and one before dinner and it doesn't totally eliminate my indigestion, but it helps. I am also being more careful not to lie down after I eat, which helps, too.

  10. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@avivoca: Ugh, sorry. I guess the only bright side is you kind of already know what you need to do to keep it under control, but I know it can't be fun.

  11. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@MrsKoala: I am still deciding about nipt vs nt. I would like to get the nipt because of the accuracy but we also have hdhp and I'm sure it's not covered. I called the Panorama company this morning to ask about the costs. For standard test (not expanded) they charge insurance $3k and will appeal if the claim is denied. If you don't put it through insurance they change $700. With our cappy insurance I'm not sure it would cost much more than NT and 2 bloodworks. I have an appointment next Monday so I will ask about cost of NT and bloodwork then. I should probably call my insurance company too. I am really torn.

ETA: @Legowife: If I were 35 I would definitely do the NIPT because insurance should cover it (but I'd check with them first). And if the results are high risk, with either option, I would get a CVS or amnio to know for sure what we're dealing with.

  12. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@skipra: HDHP plans suck. I kind of wish we'd chosen the copay plan this year but we weren't planning on trying for a baby until the summer, which would have made the next baby due in 2017 so we were like ok, let's just stay on the high deductible plan. Whoops. There's a single person deductible cap on plans with more than one person at $2500 so I'm hoping I'll hit that nice and early especially with an NT scan thrown in there. We'll see. It's a good idea to call the company and see what is covered!

@tlcbaby: Thanks for the recommendation! I had heartburn last time but it didn't happen until much later so Tums was enough. I'll look into the Zantac.

  13. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@MrsKoala: I think they will check my glucose at my intake appointment. I'm going to ask about it at my appointment in two weeks.

@tlcbaby: Yeah...I've been trying to eat healthier since the beginning of the year (I wanted to lose the last 10 pounds of baby weight before getting pregnant). I also have way less of a sweet tooth this time, so that is helping. It was hard enough doing the diet for ten weeks last time, the thought of doing it for 2/3 of the pregnancy just makes me sad and want to eat french fries.

  14. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@MrsKoala: Yeah we were not sure if we would go for #3 at all and the premiums on the PPO are ridiculous. I don't remember what my deductible is but I thought it was higher than $2,500. We are all on DH's plan so it's a pain for me to access it. Insurance is so annoying! Last year DS had surgery in March so we reached our deductible early and still had so many medical bills. I think we have the worst insurance available.

  15. maddyz

@MrsKoala: I found papaya enzymes to be helpful for heart burn. I got them at the health food store. They worked WAY better for me then tums.

  16. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@skipra: Health insurance is a nightmare. My husband works for one of the top health insurers out there and yet, we have my insurance through work instead of his because it's better. I feel like that says a lot about the way the insurance industry operates.

  17. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@maddyz: Huh! I've never heard of papaya enzymes. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Does anyone have diarrhea? Sorry, I know that is so gross, but between the nausea and that I'm so miserable.

I've blown through so much PTO, I never catch a break on the weekends to recharge I'm hoping the second trimester is easier. I need a break.

  19. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Applesandbananas: I have the opposite problem. I had such a hard time going over the last week.

I got my first comment today. I was riding the elevator with a construction guy and he said, "Oh, I bet you are just misreable! Well, at least it isn't hot yet." I'm almost 9 weeks. Also, I make weird faces when I selfie apparently.

  20. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@avivoca: hahaha that's a great selfie face! What a cute bump you're rocking! Mine is a blump

  21. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Applesandbananas: Thanks. It's mostly blump because it's so squishy. I've got such a short torso that there is nowhere for baby to go but out.

  22. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Applesandbananas: That really stinks about PTO. Are you taking anything for nausea? And no I don't have that problem but I have so much gas and it really hurts sometimes. Do you think it might be a bug?
@avivoca: Yay our first bump pic! Love the face. I always look crazy taking my pics. Bump is so cute!

@avivoca: @Applesandbananas: I am 11 weeks 4 days today and while it's flat most of the time, mine is starting to get a little squishy in the evenings I think.

I made the mistake of going to a 5:15 am gym class this morning and not eating a little something before. Cue dry heaving into my sink while trying to make breakfast. It was bad. On the other hand, I love being back in the gym.

I've got another appointment today - should just be heartbeat and bloodwork!

  25. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@mrsjd: Hope you get to hear the hb today!

I thought my bump would be bigger since it's my third. My friend just had her third and was showing from like 6 weeks. 10.5 weeks

  26. Legowife

    coffee bean / 32 posts

    @skipra: love seeing a bump!

@Applesandbananas: I had diarrhoea two weeks ago, but I'm not sure if it was pregnancy related or a bug my lo took home from daycare!

@MrsKoala: @skipra: thanks for the advice ladies! I'm going to check with our insurance, I think they don't cover all of it (the nipt) but we'd have to cover some. I think I'm leaning towards wanting to know regardless of what we do with that information

  27. mrsjd

Appointment went fine. Had a tense moment where the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler. So, she brought in a quick handheld ultrasound and we got to see the heartbeat so everything seems fine. I still get so nervous. We will probably tell our parents this week.

@skipra: Aww cute! I'll post someday soon when it starts to look bumpy and not bloaty.

@mrsjd: Glad it went well but so sorry about the scary moment with the doppler. Appointments are so nerve wracking at this stage in pregnancy. I'm kind of terrified for my next one.

Remind me: Who here is planning to be Team Green and who is going to find out? Has anyone found out the sex yet?

We're going Green again but I love when other people in the group find out. I get to live vicariously through you!

  31. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@MrsKoala: We are finding out at our anatomy scan as long as baby cooperates.

Guys, this is the reality of working in a construction zone: I walked in to work to find a haze of dust/fumes because they are cutting into the back wall AND they are painting in the basement and those fumes are wafting up the stairwell. We've only got dust masks right now so I'm going to have to take a walk to the drugstore on my lunch and buy a better mask. I hate this place sometimes. Why couldn't they give us a day off or let us work from home while they do the dangerous stuff?

Thanks girls! I was hoping we would get to see more bump pics...Maybe soon?

@mrsjd: it's scary when they can't find the hb. Neither midwife group would check mine until after 12 weeks. Glad you were able to get a quick us!

@MrsKoala: We are going TG but I think it's almost guaranteed to be a boy. We just don't know how to make girls in my family!

@MrsKoala: @maddyz: Jumping over from the August boards. Yes! Papaya Enzyme pills worked great for mild heartburn. Plus safer to take a bunch of them because too many tums can have too much calcium. Also try to drink a bit of apple juice or apple cinder vinegar.

I have an appt next week just before 12w, I'm hoping they find the HB with Doppler!

We're planning to find out at 15w through an elective ultrasound, I'm really excited! DH won't indulge me with name discussions until we know gender!

Anyone else thinking of names yet? We like Elizabeth for a girl and for a boy... Well, he might come home as "boy". 😫

Hi ladies! I have been stalking this thread for quite a while (many congratulations to all of you!) but had not felt ready to jump in before now. It's still early in my mind but I am (very cautiously, still!) looking forward to participating here!

    Location: Northeast

    EDD: September 28, 2016

How far along: 9 weeks, 1 day (but who's counting?!)

First child? Nope, LO turned 3 years old in November.

First doctor appointment: We had our first ultrasound last Monday, 2/15, and our first OB appointment on Tuesday, 2/16. Everything looked good and we were beyond relieved after a stressful first month. If all continues in a healthy way, next up is an appointment at 12-ish weeks along with our NIPT and genetic counseling (nothing like being told you're Advanced Maternal Age to make a girl feel good, right?!).

Any symptoms so far? I have been very tired and have had all-day queasiness many days. Somedays, I can get away with only a half day of feeling nauseous and I'm looking forward to hopefully leaving this behind soon. Just trying to get some extra sleep if I can and keep my stomach a little bit full at all times (don't get me started on not wanting "real" food!). The exhaustion creeps up out of nowhere this time, though, so I will be doing fine and then will need to lie down quickly. The symptom I noticed first was extremely sore boobs during the TWW and that's continued on, although not as bad (or so my memory tells me) as last time.

Who have you told? Very few people so far, which I never thought would be the case this time around. I have been feeling very "disconnected" from the experience so far and honestly, until, we had our appointment last week, I couldn't wrap my head around actually being pregnant and we've been quiet so as hopefully not to get hurt. So far we've only told one of my BFFs, two of my close neighbors/friends, and my boss (who is also a good friend and who needed to be in-the-know due to some upcoming work planning). We have been procrastinating telling our parents and are still debating about whether or not to tell LO first, hopefully around 12-ish weeks and then our parents, or tell them earlier before LO. I am overthinking it...

Looking forward to getting to know you all better!

  36. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Periwinkle: Congrats! My older DS is about your LO's age and we had him tell the grandparents - I think they liked finding out that way.

@Applesandbananas: I hope they can find the HB! I changed my appointment from this upcoming Monday to the following Friday when I'll be 12 weeks so we'll see if they check. I have the NT scan the next Monday so I don't know if I even want to put myself through the stress of the weekend if they can't find it.
And I LOVE the name Elizabeth! But it is on our firm list of names we will not use because we already have two Royal Family names and it would be too much. I am feeling like we're really limited because both of our LO's are named after great-grandfathers and coincidentally, DH's grandfathers both had the same name and my grandfathers and father all have the same name. So I feel like we need to use family names now and our options are really really limited.

@avivoca: Your work situation sounds like a nightmare right now. I hope it gets better. I can't believe you guys have to wear dust masks!

@skipra: We shall see in September!

@T.H.O.U.: Thank you! I'm including them on my next Subscribe & Save order for diapers as an add on!

@Applesandbananas: I love Elizabeth. That's our guaranteed girl middle name. We're still talking about names and we just can't quite find one that seems right for boy or girl. We had our list from last time but we found out that SIL is already talking about using one of the girl names we loved (even though we're not sure if she'll ever want kids). It would feel weird to use it now. Hopefully, something will come to us that we both love as much as we love our first LO's name!

@Periwinkle: Welcome and congratulations! Both Skipra and I are from the Northeast as well. How about that lovely weather today?

  38. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Applesandbananas: We already have our names picked out. If it's a boy, he will be James Michael, and if it's a girl, she will be Aster Caroline (though I'm dooming her to a lifetime of being called Ace since our last name starts with an E).

@MrsKoala: Yesterday was so bad but today is better. They are ventilating better since it's not raining. I felt awful for my pregnant coworker because her office doesn't have any way to close off from the dust. At least I can shut my door. We will have to deal with the paint fumes for awhile, they are painting every surface of this building.

  39. MrsKoala

@avivoca: Glad it's a little better today! If it gets really bad later in the month, could you ask to work from home?

  40. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@MrsKoala: I'll have to see. I need to ask my midwife about a medical clearance since my boss is really against working from home (I've done it in the past in extreme circumstances).
