@skipra: I wouldn't skip it. We hear the HB last time at 10 weeks. I've seen the HB already from my ER ultrasound, so if we can't find it this time with the doppler, I will push for an ultrasound.

Well, I just found out how much my ER visit is going to cost. Our HRA covered most of it (one provider was out of network, so I will have to fight the insurance on that), but that is now wiped out and I'm on the hook for the rest of the money toward our deductible, which is a little over 1K.

@skipra: They did the doppler on me Tuesday and it took a minute or two to figure out where baby was but my MW found the heartbeat. I'd say try!
@avivoca: Oh my gosh, that is outrageous! I can't believe it's going to cost so much! I'm so sorry.
As for me, I felt movement!! Just like a rolly feeling in my lower belly but it happened several times in a row so I'm pretty sure it was baby.

@avivoca: I got a bill for the bloodwork portion of my 8 week appointment - $1,100! And a second bill for the same appoint of like $250. Haven't gotten anything for the ultrasound yet
No way we have enough in our HSA yet either. Wtf insurance?!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@avivoca: on the bright side, the entire pregnancy falls within one calendar year which means you don't have to meet the deductible twice.
pomegranate / 3845 posts
@avivoca: @skipra: holy cow! 🤑
I've already accepted that we'll meet our max OOP, which is $6,850 and I've got enough going into my HSA to cover that, as painful as that is!
DS is having a big surgery this year too, so at least they'll both hit in the same year. His surgery pre-insurance is estimated at $50k, so I feel like I'm going to use more insurance benefit than premium this year

@mrsjd: yay!
Had my appointment today and it was with the midwife I saw a couple times at my old practice so that was nice. And I was going to say I didn't want to check the heartbeat but she thought we'd be able to hear it and we did! Now this is finally starting to feel real!

@mrsjd: Congratulations! So exciting!
@skipra: Such wonderful news that you heard the heartbeat!
@MrsKoala: So exciting about feeling some movement!

@Periwinkle: saw you posted here and had to pop in to say congrats!!!

@MrsKoala: movement?! That's so exciting!! How far along are you now?
I'm 12.5w and its my second, so I'm hoping in the next couple weeks I'll feel movement!

Does anyone else have plans to find out gender soon? 2.5 weeks away for us and I caaaaan't wait!!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Applesandbananas: 10 more weeks until I find out! But if my husband's travel season starts early this year (and it is looking likely since spring is coming early), I plan on scheduling an elective ultrasound so we can find out together.
pomegranate / 3845 posts
@avivoca: we want to take LO when we find out and my OB doesn't allow kids (which I completely understand, the anatomy scan is for making sure everything is growing properly!) so elective it is we also have a big appt for LO1 the day after, so I wanted to do something fun before that stressful appt!

@Applesandbananas: That's so nice that you've arranged for your LO to be there! Not long to wait now.
I have my 12 week ultrasound (NT) scan this week which I'm looking forward to but also anxious about. We will discuss and hopefully arrange the NIPT too (as I'm 35). We still haven't told anyone our news, though it will be hard to keep it quiet as I'm definitely starting to look pregnant. At least I'm starting to feel much better, the nausea is Sooooo much better. It's still there, but no where near as bad. I did fall asleep on the sofa yesterday afternoon watching Frozen with my LO!!
My DH's parents will be in town in 2 weeks time, so we'll tell them the news then, though I'm anxious that we may not have our NIPT results yet (and get them while they are here). I'm a pretty private person so don't feel like discussing this with them. I'm also worried about telling my sister. She's ttc but having some issues and I know our news will be difficult for her. I hope we can find a way to break the news that is ok for her.
Hope you ladies all have a good week. It's great to see some ladies already out of the first trimester!

Lo1 and DH have a tummy bug. What are the chances I can stay clean? I don't think I could handle it and the next 3 days of solo parenting.
@mrskoala: I thought I felt something, but I think it was just gas. With lo1 I felt movent for weeks before I realized that's what it was.
Yay, we are all making it out of the first trimester. I still have a week and I am counting days.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@maddyz: I am crossing all my fingers you can avoid the bug. I have so much sympathy if you catch it.
@Applesandbananas: yay! You will find out so soon! We will have to do a gender guess survey type thing before everyone starts to find out.
We have the NT tomorrow and first round of blood work. Pretty nervous. I hope everything looks OK. We told the in-laws today and one of my sisters. Everyone so far is guessing another boy for us!

@skipra: that'd be fun!! How about something like:
First baby? If not, what gender(s) are your older LO(s)?
Do you have a preference?
Does your family have a preference?
What does the Chinese gender predictor say?
Have you tried any of the old wives tales?
Do you have a gut feeling?
Have you had any dreams?
When will you find out?
pomegranate / 3845 posts
First baby? If not, what gender(s) are your older LO(s)? #2, I have an almost 3 year old boy!
Do you have a preference? I kinda want a girl
Does your family have a preference? Yes, everyone is hoping for a girl!!
What does the Chinese gender predictor say? Boy, but LO was supposed to be a girl!
Have you tried any of the old wives tales? No, but based on u/s and Doppler, the heart rate suggests girl!!
Do you have a gut feeling? Girl, but I thought so with LO and he's a boy!!
Have you had any dreams? Yep, that it was a boy and we could NOT agree on any names!!
When will you find out? 2.5 weeks!!!
Any name ideas? I love Elizabeth for a girl (middle name is going to be a battle!) and I like Elliot for a boy, but DH hates it!

First baby? If not, what gender(s) are your older LO(s)? This will be my second. I have a 2.5 year old daughter.
Do you have a preference? Not really.
Does your family have a preference? No.
What does the Chinese gender predictor say? Boy.
Have you tried any of the old wives tales? HR suggests boy, but we haven't seen/heard it since 7 weeks.
Do you have a gut feeling? I think it's a boy.
Have you had any dreams? That it was a boy. One was a gender reveal with blue cake.
When will you find out? 20 weeks
Any name ideas? Aster Caroline for a girl, James Michael for a boy

@Tidybee: aw, thank you so much, friend! I've been thinking of you and hope you and your beautiful family are doing great!

@Applesandbananas: I have to admit, I'm still on the fence about finding out this time around. We waited last time and it was amazing but I feel like it would make life somewhat easier this time to find out. I just don't feel like I'm positive I want to know so early, as bizarre as that sounds. I am scheduled for my NIPT this coming week so could potentially know within 2 weeks but just don't feel that urge to know yet. I know that sounds crazy and I'm hoping we can make a decision early this week.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Applesandbananas: great! Thanks!
First baby? If not, what gender(s) are your older LO(s)? Third. We have 2 boys.
Do you have a preference? Not at all. I love being a boy mama and think another could be easier but I did always kind of want a girl too. I'd really be happy with either.
Does your family have a preference? We have 5 boys in my family so they are really hoping for a girl I think.
What does the Chinese gender predictor say? Boy. It was right for LO1 but wrong for LO2 so I give it 50%!
Have you tried any of the old wives tales? No but I am all about salty food, which I think is boy? I can't stand sweets now even though I usually have a major sweet tooth. Morning sickness would probably indicate girl but I was sick with LO1 too. And I think general consensus in my family is once we have 2 of the same sex all future kids will be too. (I have 2 sisters, my sister has 3 boys, one aunt had 4 boys and the other had a boy followed by 5 girls}
Do you have a gut feeling?
Have you had any dreams? Just one where my mom's crazy "psychic" cousin was insisting it's a girl and I kept telling her she was definitely wrong
When will you find out? September or whenever baby arrives!
And for fun - someone I know swears by the "Mayan" method: if your age at conception and year of conception are both even or odd, girl. One even and one odd, boy. For me this is boy.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@skipra: In that case, this is a girl. I was 27 and conceived in 2013 with H and it was right for her.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@avivoca: I have heard that it's month of conception vs year too. Either way it worked for both of my kids!
And I missed the name question - I think we will have a hard time for a boy name but probably use my maiden name as a middle. For a girl I am thinking Elaina/Elena Violet
pomegranate / 3845 posts
@skipra: I've never heard of the Mayan method! I was 21 in 2012 for LO1, he's a boy this time I was 25 in 2015... Maybe it's a girl!
I think I'll start a new thread, I'm curious how accurate it is for other HBers!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
OK I must have been in a total mental fog. Because the year/ age thing is totally wrong for me - 2011 and 29 (boy), 2013 and 31 (boy). This time is 2015 and 33. But it did work with the months - 12 & 29, 8 & 31.
Just ignore my method I have no clue what I'm talking about!
persimmon / 1270 posts
First baby? No. If not, what gender(s) are your older LO(s)? 1 year old boy.
Do you have a preference? No
Does your family have a preference? DH would like a girl, I think.
What does the Chinese gender predictor say? Boy
Have you tried any of the old wives tales? No
Do you have a gut feeling? Not really. Sometimes I can see myself as a mom to boys, more easily then girls.
Have you had any dreams? No
When will you find out? 20w
If it's a girl the name we are floating right now is Ella but it's more popular then I would like... boys I dont know maybe Warren. LO1 is Davey.

I'm closing in on 13w and ugh. I have had seriously awful vomiting the last couple days, just as soon as I wake up and then I'm fine. The rest of the first trimester, it had just been awful nausea. What gives?! Lol I thought the second tri meant no more m/s!
I'm sitting her, eating some bread, hoping to quell the nausea. All the blood vessels in my face have burst from all this throwing up, looks like I've been beaten. Even the whites of my eyes have little red dots from that! Gah!!
Also still having a LOT of bathroom trips to pee, I thought this eased in the second tri too?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Applesandbananas: I hope the vomiting lets up soon! I'm a little worried that my nausea is going to come back. I've actually felt pretty good the last few days, so I don't want to go back to my sad, nauseated, exhausted existence.
I get to meet with the midwives tomorrow! I'm so excited! It took FOREVER for this day to get here!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Applesandbananas: It's not likely. I probably won't have another one until my anatomy scan. They may give me one if we can't pick up the heartbeat on the Doppler.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Applesandbananas: that stinks! Have you been doing anything different before or after bed? Getting less sleep? I had to change around when I took my vitamins and brushed my teeth to help with the vomiting. I hope it goes away soon!
@avivoca: good luck tomorrow! Hope you hear the heartbeat!
I had the NT scan this morning and everything looked good! Big relief!
pear / 1879 posts
@Applesandbananas: Ugh, I'm so sorry the nausea and vomiting are in full force. I hope it's a quick thing and that you're back to yourself soon.
@avivoca: So exciting to be having your appointment tomorrow! I know that feeling when you've been waiting for so long and then it's here! Will be thinking the best for you
@skipra: Such great news about your appointment today! Phew!
persimmon / 1270 posts
@skipra: I totally got it.... a full 48 hours after everyone else was done. I thought I was in the clear. I am solo parenting for the next few days too. Just called a friend to bring over pedialyte and gatorade. Fingers crossed LO sleeps tonight.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@maddyz: I'm so sorry hoping it's out of your system soon. And just take it easy the next few days and stick with very mild foods for longer than you think you need to. Watered down apple juice is what got me through. Thinking of you!
