Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is feeling good as we get closer & closer!!! Only 6 weeks and 4 days to go for me!! Yikes!
Question- are you planning on bringing baby home in a long-sleeved coming home outfit or short-sleeved coming home outfit? Wanted to see what you thought since we are all September and who knows what exactly the weather will be like...

@emc: I'm bringing baby home in a long-sleeved sleeper. If it's really hot, I'll change it to something else, probably a romper.

@emc: I think probably a long sleeved onesie and pants since our car will have A/C and so does our house. I'd rather err on the side of a bit too warm than cold.

@emc: I was going to go with long sleeves too. Even though it will probably be warm ( expecting to have him late August). The AC will be in in the hospital, car, house.

@MrsKoala: I think H wore a short sleeved shirt, leggings, and socks home last time? Maybe a jacket too, I don't know if she wore the jacket or if she spit up on it. But September/October is so iffy in Kentucky, it was freezing the day I went to the hospital and about 20 degrees warmer when I left two days later.

@emc: we have a long sleeved sleeper too. LO1 was also a September baby and I had a thin 2 piece set with long sleeves and wished we had something heavier.

@emc: It'll probably still be pretty warm here in mid-September (Southern Indiana) so I plan on bringing him/her home in a onesie, pants, and socks, but I do have a long sleeve kimono style outfit with pants that we can bring as a backup. Plus, we live about 5 minutes from the hospital, so DH will likely be back and forth to the house during the time I'm at the hospital, which makes it pretty easy to change plans if necessary!

@avivoca: Sometimes I feel like it seems like no time at all and sometimes it feels so far away. I can't believe it! You are almost there!

@tlcbaby: I know! There's still so much I need to do! I have house projects I need to finish, but I need my husband here to help with them (I suppose I shouldn't be moving the air compressor and using the circular saw by myself) and we need to finally buy our new couch (going to Ikea in a couple of weeks) and then in September I need him to drive me everywhere because he's not comfortable with me driving by myself when I'm 580 weeks pregnant.

@tlcbaby: @avivoca: @emc:
I'll probably go with a onesie or shirt with pants and socks. It's still steamy here (southern Louisiana) in September.
Presuming I don't go late (it's my first), I only have 39 DAYS. Less than 6 weeks.

@avivoca: There are a few things we need to do, but it is nothing that HAS to be done. I'd just like it to be done. At this point, I'd mostly like to get some meals in the freezer so I don't have to cook so much when the baby gets here and buy a few things I know we'll need.

@avivoca: I can't believe how close we all are! I'm not ready so I'm telling myself that it could be almost as long as I knew I was in the first trimester...which seemed to take forever to get through!

@emc: I'm thinking probably long sleeved but haven't picked anything out yet. Currently debating whether or not this baby should wear the same outfit home as LO did
@avivoca: I know, where did the weeks go?! The first thing I thought this morning when I woke up was oh my goodness, this baby is due NEXT month!!!!
nectarine / 2280 posts
@Periwinkle: I was debating the same thing. I thought it would be cute if they wore the same thing but then now I'm worried I won't be able to tell them apart in pictures later. I will probably just end up overpacking outfits.

@Periwinkle: I thought the same thing today! HOW is it August 1?
Question for the experienced mamas- what is essential for my hospital bag? Where is the best place to get nursing tanks?
nectarine / 2750 posts
@Christy412: This was my list from last time--
Birth Plan
Cash (vending, etc)
ID and insurance card
Pajamas
Robe
Nursing bras
Slippers
Outfit to wear home
Toiletries
Phone
iPad
Chargers
Baby book - for footprints and handprints
Clothes for baby
Burp cloths
medicine/grooming kit
Infant car seat
Snacks (I was starving after delivery)
Big water bottle (I was also too thirsty for them to just bring me little cups of water all the time)
Boppy
Pump (they made me pump last time because he wouldn't eat and I had to pay for all the pump parts)

@Christy412: Oh and I am going to try some H&M nursing tanks, but I had some from Old Navy last time that I liked.

@tlcbaby: Love your list! I need to look over mine from last time but this is such a helpful reminder.
@Christy412: I had some nursing tanks from Motherhood last time which I liked a lot. I may try some of the H&M ones or even some ones from Target this time.

I finally spoke to insurance about my breast pump. My plan only pays for a pump every 36 months, so I can't order one until after November 6 of this year. Hopefully, I won't need to pump before then, but my old Ameda might be okay for a few sessions (it basically bit the dust after 10 months of pumping 5-6 days a week.

@avivoca: That stinks! My insurance switched their policy and now only provides hand pumps unless you have a medically necessary reason for an electric one (aka going back to work or being separated from the baby) luckily my doctor will help me out because I am planning on going back to work.

@Christy412: I'm just glad it's not 36 months between deliveries, because then I would be holding this baby in until October 8 so I could get one.

I am hoping I can get a madela swing pump partly covered by insurance. Not sure how to do that.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@Christy412: I got my two nursing tanks at Target (Gillian O'Malley). After the first couple weeks, I switched to regular nursing bras and the Tami tanks from Old Navy (stretchy enough to pull under your boob, keeps your stomach covered and keeps its shape).
For hospital bag, I'd suggest a couple things:
Toiletries
Phone charger
Contacts/solution if you wear them
Nursing tanks
Robe
Pjs
Yoga pants and comfortable shirts/tanks
Going home outfit for LO
Car seat
Flip flops
Otherwise, I didn't bring much else. I never used my pump and they have all the breastfeeding accessories you might need (nipple shields/lanolin) if you plan to BF.
My last word of advice take all the mesh panties they have. All of them. And the jumbo pads. Seriously, you won't regret it.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@MrsKoala: I second the mesh undies and the pads. I still have a pair of the undies and H currently sits on one of the pads in her car seat (because cleaning pee out of car seat is the pits).
nectarine / 2280 posts
@avivoca: has she really peed in the car seat? That's my biggest fear. Even though mine is mostly day trained I sometimes put her in pull-ups for car trips.
pear / 1879 posts
@MrsKoala: Here's another vote for taking all of the mesh underwear the hospital will give! Best things ever, postpartum. My hospital was pretty generous last time and also provided pads (seriously the biggest things I have ever seen but so worth it), numbing spray and a few peri bottles which were helpful at the hospital and also when back at home.
@avivoca: Love your repurposed use of the pads! That's a great idea.

@katsupgirl: She has! It was right when we started potty training and the pull-ups went bye bye (except for naps/bedtime). We stayed out too long, she wouldn't pee in Target, and she peed in her seat. It was heartbreaking, she couldn't look at me and said "I'm trying really hard, Mommy." and I lost it and cried all the way home. I'm tearing up right now too thinking about it.
It's the only time she's peed in her seat though.

@maddyz: Did your doctor's office provide you with any insurance forms? If not, you may want to call them and see if they can give this to you. Every insurance company is different but your doctor should be able to provide you with the prescription and some general instructions on how to get started with the process. Some insurance companies have you work directly with the medical supply company while others, I believe, will order on your behalf, within certain parameters. I think with the new laws, you can order the pump well in advance-- when LO was born in 2012, if I had wanted to go through insurance I would have had to wait until after he was born when the OB could write a prescription based on "need." Now it is covered without explanation.
Good luck with it.

@avivoca: oh poor thing! That's so sad. She must've been devastated. Heartbreaking! I'm glad it only happened once. Potty training can be so traumatic.

@avivoca: @Christy412: That sucks! I couldn't get the same Medela I had last time, which I hate because I still have all the parts/accessories, but I was able to get an Ameda Purely Yours. Hopefully I'll like it as much. I don't know why I didn't keep my Medela, but I was so sure I only wanted one kid.
I took EVERYTHING from the hospital room when I left! My nurse loaded me up and said "You are paying for it anyway, you might as well take it." I had diapers, nipple cream, pads, blankets, etc. I was glad she said something because I probably wouldn't have thought to take any of it with me.

Speaking of pads, I made a bunch of these last time and they were a lifesaver when I first came home from the hospital. Honestly, I think the fact that they were nice and cold helped more than anything, but the witch hazel and aloe helped, too. I didn't use the essential oils, but I might try it this time.

@tlcbaby: I had an Ameda last time and it crapped out on me. I doubt you will be pumping as much as I was though (3 times a day/5 days a week for 9 months and then whatever I pumped on leave), so maybe yours will be better. When it worked, I really liked it, but when it didn't, it was awful! I ended up renting a hospital grade Ameda to get me through that last month.
I'm either going to get another Ameda or try Spectra. Even though I had so much trouble with my Ameda last time, I have all the parts/bottles and it's so easy to get more on Amazon, compared to the Spectra.

@Periwinkle: Yes, when I ordered in 2013, I had to wait until baby was born before I could order. I waited a month though, so now I can't get another one before November 6 and have it covered. My insurance lady told me that now you can order it whenever in pregnancy, but that doesn't help me in the slightest. I do appreciate that she looked to see if there were any loopholes I could slide through, but the system was airtight.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@avivoca: I tried to just pump a couple times a day so I could build enough of a stash for when I wasn't around to feed him. I really hope it doesn't cause me any problems! I loved my Medela. I hadn't even heard of the other pumps my insurance offered, but I really wanted one with a carry bag.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@tlcbaby: Mine was great until the end, truly. Then it died a slow death and frustrated me because H was 10 months old and I needed to pump enough each day (my freezer stash was so low because of an illness, I never caught back up). That's when I rented the hospital grade one, and then once that was over it wasn't a big deal if I wasn't getting as much milk because I was in the process of day weaning from 11-12 months.
