@katsupgirl: I know that feeling of being out of room! Last night, Baby was so incredibly active and I could basically feel a hand or foot (couldn't tell which) through my stomach. I keep thinking it's not possible to stretch out any more and then it does!

Strong heartbeat for A, in the 180s. Urine has some leukocytes, but looks okay. They are thinking stress maybe. Will know more when I see the midwife (I was seeing her student).

They are sending my pee out for culture because there are white blood cells present, a lot of them. In the meantime, I was told to go home, rest, and drink plenty of fluids. I have a chiropractor appointment at 11:45 to hopefully get my hips worked out because I am having a hard time walking, lifting H (into/out of the stroller and out of the car seat).
I feel silly for going in (and cried, dang hormones), but the nurse said that she wanted me in ASAP because I never complain about anything. I feel a lot better knowing that A is okay. She also said that they wanted to make sure I wasn't having any pre-term labor.
Pray for no rain tonight in West Virginia, because T is supposed to come home tomorrow.

@avivoca: You absolutely should not feel silly!! I went in for a NST last week because her kicks weren't as frequent and powerful as they have been. (everything was fine). But you truly weren't feeling well and you did the right thing! And I hear you about emotions lately! Got in a huge, pointless fight with my husband this morning.
nectarine / 2280 posts
@Periwinkle: that's the weirdest feeling! I sometimes feel a foot up high. It's like he's kicking me in the neck!
@avivoca: good news about A! You've definitely been doing/dealing with a lot so maybe you just need a break. Hopefully your hubs gets home on time to give you a break. Hormones are no joke. I'm always on the verge of tears. Sigh.

@avivoca: I'm hoping the white blood cells mean nothing but also that you feel better!! Don't feel silly going in. It's better to be safe than sorry!
pear / 1879 posts
@avivoca: I'm so glad you got in to see the midwife. There is nothing at all to feel silly about! It's always better to get checked and learn if there is a problem earlier, but hopefully everything is OK with your culture. I'm sure you're exhausted and hopefully it's just stress (not a good thing, but still). But I'm glad you got in to be seen. I cried at my appointment last week too (about the anxiety I've been experiencing)... I felt ridiculous in the moment but so much better after I spoke to my doctor.
@mrsjd: So glad your NST went well. It's scary when there's a decrease in movement, especially suddenly. That happened when I was about 35 weeks along with LO... although frustrating to get to the doctor as often as I needed to, I felt such reassurance after knowing that everything was OK, even if his movement slow down so much, so suddenly.

Anyone else feeling completely mentally checked out of work? I have my busiest couple weeks coming up and I'm dreading it to the point where I just don't want to do much. I just need to get through it and then I can cruise until baby is born.
clementine / 777 posts
@MrsKoala: Yes! Very much. I'm just plain exhausted and over it. But I have so many projects to complete in the next few weeks that I really need to maintain productivity. It's hard!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@MrsKoala: I am so over work. There has been a lot of stress associated with it and the huge event we are planning (it keeps getting pushed back). Now they are planning it for Halloween weekend and my department really feels like it's going to be detrimental, but no one higher up is listening to us (the ones who work in programming). I'm just putting my head down and trying to coast through the next 7.5 weeks until my leave starts.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@avivoca: Do not feel silly! You did the right thing. Sounds like some rest is the best medicine.
@MrsKoala: I am mostly working from home this time, but the first time I did absolutely nothing for my last couple weeks of work. This also had to do with the fact that I knew I wasn't coming back after I had the baby. I think I mostly played on Hellobee!
nectarine / 2750 posts
So, my midwife *thinks* she felt the baby was head down today, but didn't seem 100% sure. I thought I would have to go back next week, but since I am technically not 35 weeks until tomorrow, they said I can wait until 36 weeks to come back in.
They are going to do a cervical check at that appointment so they can make sure it really was the head they are feeling. Then we talked about the possibilities if the baby hasn't turned, but I am just going to think positive thoughts until then!
Baby was measuring a bit behind and I haven't gained any weight over the past two weeks, but they said the kinda of weird position of the baby could be why my measurements are off, so I'm not too worried unless they say the same thing at my next appointment.

@MrsKoala: Oh my goodness yes. And same here with the next few weeks being insane. I am in the process of (finally officially, I hope) changing roles and it has been non stop. I am just trying to separate a bit more and only work during traditional working hours. I have a few big projects which must get done but I also could use some down time there just to get organized and try to help my team plan for my leave.
I am reminiscing about this point in my last pregnancy. Work was so different (same job, just much more of a team atmosphere with an old boss) and I had a ton of time to "relax" toward the end. Not this time, and I miss it.
I hope you're taking good care of yourself even though it's so busy there.

@tlcbaby: Great news re *hopefully* being head down! I hope they're right and that baby is getting into a good position!
I know that you had had some concerns about the weight gain and I hope it's just as simple as baby being in a funny position. How are you feeling?
pear / 1879 posts
@avivoca: I'm so sorry about the work stress you're dealing with. It's the worst. I mean, stress in general is not good, but when it comes from work it's just so frustrating. Especially this close to going out on leave.
How are you feeling tonight? Any results back from your culture?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Periwinkle: I am still very tired, but I feel MUCH better. My mind feels sharp again. That was the scariest part, I felt so fuzzy and slow. I'm also sporting a fantastic amount of Kinesio tape on my back. My hips and sacrum were twisted very badly, which is why I could barely walk and still am having a hard time lifting H. My glucose has been really good today too. I probably won't hear about my culture until tomorrow or Friday.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@tlcbaby: Hooray for baby being possibly head down! They also moved my next appointment back a week, so I will now be on the right schedule. I can't believe you are starting weekly appointments! I hope that baby has indeed turned. If mine goes back to breech or transverse, I've decided not to do an ECV.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@avivoca: Why did you decide against an ECV? They only mentioned it today and I don't know much about it, other than my sister tried with her first and it didn't work.

@Periwinkle: I'm feeling pretty good as long as I don't stay outside in this humidity too long!!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@tlcbaby: Because there is a small chance of it not working and it becoming an emergency situation. For me, it doesn't feel right, but I know plenty of people who it has worked for!
ETA: this humidity is KILLING me. And I will be very glad to never wear bug spray again.

@avivoca: I am hoping I won't even have to make the choice to do one or not. And, yes, we walked around the trolley hop last weekend and I couldn't even see my ankles or bend my fingers all the way by the time we were done.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@tlcbaby: I hope so too! Good for you doing the trolley hop! I'm walking a 5k next Saturday in memory of my friend's father and I imagine I will be the same way.

@avivoca: Phew! SO happy you're feeling more like yourself tonight. I know that feeling where your brain just feels like mush. And when the rest of your body hurts too, no good at all.
@tlcbaby: This humidity is nuts! It came out of nowhere today here and I feel like I'm in a sauna outside. Thank goodness for air conditioning again
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Periwinkle: yes. The humidity. Ugh. It was perfect on Monday, PERFECT. Then yesterday it turned into a sauna. Today was even worse, it's like once 5:00 rolls around, the humidity goes up to 95% and I'm breaking a sweat just turning over.
pear / 1879 posts
@avivoca: It's terrible. I am having a tough time breathing again and the humidity makes me feel just awful. It's going to be like this through the weekend I think.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@avivoca: Glad you are feeling better! I feel you on this oppressive humidity. We've got a heat advisory here today and I'm not okay with that.
@tlcbaby: Hopefully, baby was actually head down. Crossing my fingers for you!
@Periwinkle: Glad that you are finally officially changing roles. I remember you mentioning that before but that it was chaotic. Hopefully, things calm down! I find myself reminiscing about my last pregnancy as well and I remember feeling so good. Like I was totally not ready for my baby to come because I felt so good! This time, I'm dragging sooooo hard! I also had LO1 in February so it was an easier time of year for me. August is always my crazy month so when I found out I was due in September, I was like what the eff did I get myself into?
clementine / 777 posts
Ladies, if you think you know humidity - come to New Orleans in August. Good god. It's insanity.
@avivoca: How are you feeling this morning?
Well, I found out my platelet count has dropped. Praying it doesn't go down further, or my only delivery options become natural delivery or C-section under general anesthesia.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@mrsjd: I cannot even imagine the humidity there!! Excuse my medical ignorance, but why does low platelets mean you can't have anesthesia?
clementine / 777 posts
@tlcbaby: It apparently can create a blood clotting risk and with an epidural there are concerns about it leading to some other negative side effects (I've seen paralysis mentioned). But I'm fortunately not that low yet. And for me, I would try the natural delivery first (my mom had two, quick and easy natural deliveries).
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrsjd: I can't imagine how you are feeling! I'm so sorry that you are dealing with worse than ours. I was dying on my walk last night (dog does not like to use the yard).
I had a natural delivery with H and am shooting for it with A. You can do it! One thing that really helped me was to remember that the average labor for a first time mom is 18 hours, but you are not in pain for the entire 18 hours. The average amount of pain time is 3 hours and 30 minutes. I'm a runner, so I likened it to running a marathon.
clementine / 777 posts
@avivoca: Thanks! That is a great way of looking at it. I'm not scared of the natural delivery (and associated pain), more scared of not progressing and ending up with a C-section under general. That is not my ideal birth scenario or even close to it. I don't want to be that out of it and I imagine the recovery is not easy. Plus I can't imagine how scared it would make my husband.
Did you do anything to prepare for your first delivery? If so, did you feel that it helped?
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@mrsjd: Oh man, I forgot you are down south! I can't imagine the misery! Hoping your platelet levels stay steady so that you can have that epidural if you want one!
Actually, that leads me to a question, what are all of your thoughts on epidurals? I loved mine last time because my contractions were right on top of each other and it allowed me to relax enough to actually get to 10 cm. My transition was actually pretty fast last time (went from 5 cm to 10 cm in an 1 hr and 45 mins) so I'm wondering if I can go without it this time? I might try.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@mrsjd: I went to a labor class just to find out more and to see actual births. I also read a lot of birth stories (here and on reddit's BabyBumps sub). I made a point to talk to all of my friends who had babies before me to hear their birth stories, too. I think it was helpful to hear from my friends that had c-sections so that I wasn't completely terrified if it had to happen.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrsjd: I attended an Empowering Birth class and my husband also read "The Birth Partner." My provider and hospital are very natural birth friendly and they really helped me power through. My labor was 15 hours and I spent 11 of those at home laboring how I needed to (lots of walking; I walked basically for 10 hours, you can see my tracks in the carpet lol). Once I got to the hospital, the nurses repeated my birth plan to me verbatim and said that they would not offer pain meds. I only asked for them once, and the nurse reminded me that I was so close to delivery that I didn't need it. This time, they are offering gas and air, so I might take a hit of that if I need to. Definitely talk to your provider about how you want a natural birth and talk to them about how the hospital will be.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@MrsKoala: I'm not planning to have one this time, but if I need it, I'm okay with it. Just knowing that I had one unmedicated birth makes me not want to get the epi this time though. I did not have a long labor though. My pregnant coworker had a Pitocin birth without meds, so I kept telling myself that if J could do it like that, I could do it.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@avivoca: I think mine was pretty similar to yours in terms of length. I was in labor for a total of 15 hours and I spent most of the time working (people are going to think I'm crazy). Then I went home, ate dinner, decided to go to the hospital at 8:45 (got there at 9:15), and had my son by 11:55 pm. I've heard that the second time is usually faster so I'm kind of hoping I can power through without the epi.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@MrsKoala: Me too. I can't believe you worked! I went into labor at 6:00 at night and spent the night moaning and yelling and calling my husband all kinds of obscene things. I do not labor quietly haha.
clementine / 777 posts
@avivoca: @MrsKoala: Thank you both! These are very helpful stories. I've spoken a lot with friends, and while I'm not scared of a C-section (not ideal, but ok), it's the general anesthesia that I would prefer to avoid. But it's all premature now, anyway. We shall see. I was always toying around with having an unmedicated birth anyway (my mom swears the recovery was amazing), so maybe this is just a little nudge.
I do plan to labor at home as long as I can if I go into labor on my own. Everyone seems to agree that is the way to go!
ETA: My provider is very open to my preferred method of birth (she will be delivering me 100%) and also the hospital where I'm delivering has made a concerted effort in recent years to reduce C-sections. So that's encouraging.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrsjd: My recovery was amazing. They had me up and walking around withing two hours.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mrsjd: Also, I really liked that I got to deliver how I wanted. I pushed on my hands and knees. Delivering on your back is not the best position because it actually makes your pelvis smaller, so try out lots of different positions (squatting, hands/knees, back). I was so tired when I got to the hospital that I laid on my back for two hours and pushed with the squat bar, but once I flipped to hands and knees, it went much quicker.
