@tlcbaby: good point about paying for it! I didn't think of it like that. Definitely going to snag more stuff this time around.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week! I am so happy it is almost the weekend.

We had our 32 week growth scan yesterday and it went wonderfully! I feel so relieved that baby is growing as he should be. He was head down and facing my back, so hopefully he will stay put The only major downside to that is that we did not get a very good look at his face. I tried shifting around but he was being quite shy… it was very difficult for the sonographer to even get a glimpse of his profile for more than a quick moment. The one tiny look we got (sadly, not long enough to print it!), he looks just like his big brother! I am so curious to see if they are actually going to look similar

I also had a regular check up this morning and all went well. I'm in the process of cycling through the doctors in my practice and really, really liked this doctor today.

@Periwinkle: Yay! That's awesome. I'm jealous. I'm 35 weeks today and haven't had a scan since 24 weeks. We have chosen not to do any elective scans and unless my doctor can't determine the baby's position we won't have another one during this pregnancy.

I can't believe it's 5 weeks until my due date. I got a little freaked out one day this week because she was't as active as normal and I went in for a NST. Everything looked perfect and she is in the doctor's works "very happy in there." So that was a big relief. My appetite has decreased significantly and my weight gain has really held steady in the last 3-4 weeks, which kind of makes me worry too, but apparently she's measuring normally. I go in next week for the 36 week appointment and then weekly after that.

Is anyone having pelvic discomfort? My pelvis feels kind of bruised when I stand up from sitting or laying down for a while. It's not painful just uncomfortable.

  4. Periwinkle

    pear / 1879 posts

@mrsjd: I was also kind of sad to be done with ultrasound most likely. Obviously, I would much rather see baby in the flesh, but it's so nice to know that everything is going well in there.

I am definitely experiencing very similar pelvic pain. My understanding is that it's just everything stretching out and getting ready, but it certainly doesn't feel very good on a daily basis. Does any kind of stretching help you? I can also commiserate with the worries associated with not gaining very much weight, especially in these final weeks. I spoke with my doctor about that today because I have not been gaining a ton (although it's still very much in range, even if on the lower side) and he reassured me that everything is completely fine. My issue is that I don't have much of an appetite these days, and I am really just picking at food instead of eating real meals much of the time. Did your doctor give you any advice to gain a few more?

  5. mrsjd

    clementine / 777 posts

@Periwinkle: I'm fortunate that the pelvic discomfort is just mildly irritating. I hear horror stories about real pain that some women experience. Hopefully it doesn't get progressively worse.

No, like you, my doctor is very happy with my weight gain. She said as long as I'm not losing significant weight (I lost 1 lb between 32 and 34 weeks) and the baby is measuring correctly there is no reason to worry. I've gained 20 lbs so like you, I'm within the range just on the low end (I had a healthy pre-pregnancy BMI).

  6. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

@Periwinkle: Yea! So close and sounds like everything is going perfect.

@mrsjd: I had more pelvic pain earlier on-it seemed to go away after a few days. I guess it's just everything stretching and maybe where baby is lying? I've noticed my appetite isn't as much as it used to be, too. I think I'm out of room in there!

@mrsjd: glad you are not worrying about the weight! I actually am finally back to my prep regnant weight at 35 weeks and my doc says I'm on track to have at least an 8 lb baby. Weight gain really means nothing in the scheme of things when it comes to baby's size and development.

  8. mrsjd

    clementine / 777 posts

@MrsKoala: It is really funny because people tell me I look small and I'm like, NOPE. I have gained a solid 20. I had a hard time with weight gain towards the 20-25 week mark of pregnancy but I actually really love my pregnant body for the most part. I am trying to have a grateful heart about this entire experience and it has been really beneficial towards enjoying these last few weeks. We are incredibly lucky to experience what is truly a miracle.

ETA: What size was your first? I am SUPER curious as to how big my girl will be. I'd love her to be around 8 lbs.

  9. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@mrsjd: my first was 9lb 5 oz and I gained 28 lbs! My docs think I might get lucky and this baby will be a bit smaller but my family has a history of big babies so I'm not holding my breath! I'm really glad to hear that you are embracing your pregnant body. I know it can be one of the hardest parts of this experience to adjust to!!

  10. mrsjd

    clementine / 777 posts

@MrsKoala: That is a big baby! I've heard big babies sleep better, any truth to that in your experience? My husband was apparently around 9 lbs, but I was 5 lb 13 oz! I came two weeks early. My brother was also a little early and was a little over 7 lbs. My mama made little (but healthy) babies.

  11. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@mrsjd: he slept long stretches at night but he napped like crap! So sort of? He could lift his head at like 2 days old though and I never felt like he was that fragile, which I think made it easier as a first time mom! Some of my friends had 6-7 lb babies and I was so scared holding them because they seemed so tiny in comparison! But little is good for the actual giving birth part so there's pluses and minuses to both!

  12. katsupgirl

    nectarine / 2280 posts

@MrsKoala: I think I make big babies too. My first was 9lbs 2oz. This one already feels bigger and out of room.

@mrsjd: I've got some pelvic pain as well. I don't remember that with my first. I think everything is stretching and he might be a bigger baby.

I'm so bummed that I can't really eat. I'm so full after just a few bites then there's the reflux and nothing tastes good. Blech.

Funny story: I was cleaning out a closet to make space for a new pump. I figured I'd get a second one so I didn't have to carry it back and forth. Apparently I had the same thought with my first cause there were two pump bags in the closet. Totally forgot I did that and almost got a third.

I got to leave work early and I am resting in bed right now. It feels so good... I am so tired.

@katsupgirl: I meant to commiserate with you a bit. The reflux sucks! I haven't been eating much either lately!

@Maddyz: rest and relax!! You deserve it!!

@MrsKoala: I had the same feeling about her not being as fragile because she was in the bigger side. Since I'm doing the RCS I'm kinda looking forward to a similar size baby.

    How's everyone feeling this week?

Quick question... for those of you who have little ones already at home, what's your plan in terms of labor/hospital with regard to having coverage for your older child? We have talked generically about this but need to get a specific plan in place now that we are getting so much closer. We have a different idea depending on if I go into labor during the day/night/weekend and I know that I am trying to control it too much. I just worry about how LO will handle things when it's actually time, especially as we are asking our friends, neighbors and family to help out.

Does anyone have a clear plan in place yet?

  18. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@Periwinkle: feeling okay. Not amazing not awful. Heartburn, nausea, reflux are annoying me right now but otherwise, feeling fine. As for my older LO, MIL lives 2 miles down the street and she will take him. If in the middle of the night, she'll come and stay at our place. I'm praying for daytime though because I don't want to confuse him by putting him to bed and the he wakes up and we are not there.

  19. Periwinkle

    pear / 1879 posts

@MrsKoala: I'm so sorry you're dealing with the heartburn, nausea, etc. It's so uncomfortable Did you have that last time too?

I also worry about the middle of the night scenario as I know that will be hard on my LO too. Although, I am equally as nervous, now that I think about it, about having to say goodbye to him if we have to go to the hospital during the day when he's home. He sometimes doesn't do well with separation and I worry about having him feel sad if we are to leave, maybe even quickly.

  20. maddyz

    persimmon / 1270 posts

@Periwinkle: I am with @mrkoala with the heartburn and such. I have days that are totally fine and others that are killer.

As for LO1 we plan on having a home birth (same as LO1) and living in NYC there is not much room. I think it's going to be best if LO is out of the house for most of it. We have a good friend and sometimes babysitter on call, she will take LO to a neighbors for the night or just out for the day depending. She will also spend some time with LO after the birth when we dont have our nanny. Just to help make sure we all get some good rest after. My mom will come up as soon as she can to help out, but she isn't available until just after my due date and is traveling from NC so it might take her a while. It's hard not having family near by, but doable.

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Periwinkle: I'm worrying about this too. My parents live an hour away, so I don't want to call and then have to wait on them to get up, get ready, and get here. I may ask a trusted friend to be on call to stay with her at night and then have my parents come ASAP so my friend can go to work. That way I can go to the hospital when I need to instead of having to wait 1.5 or 2 hours for my parents. I also don't want them there when I am laboring.

Worst case scenario, H will come with us to the hospital. But I would rather avoid that. I don't want her to be traumatized.

@Periwinkle: not having the best day here. Found out this morning that the baby has fluid in a kidney. It should resolve after birth but I worry anyway of course. Then I looked it up on google and it seems to be something that only happens to boys...so there goes that surprise! And to end the day I got a hemiplegic migraine which means I'm going to feel like crap while on vacation this week. sorry vent over!

As far as childcare during labor - my mom will come at the first signs. She will plan to stay several days in case it takes time. She's over an hour away and much more during rush hour so DH will stay in waiting area witg kids until she arrives if things progress quickly. I'm most nervous about my water breaking spontaneously while traffic is bad and DH is at work. I'll rely on friends and paramedics at that point!

  23. katsupgirl

    nectarine / 2280 posts

@skipra: sorry about the crappy day. What a sucky way to have the gender revealed especially at this point in the pregnancy.

@Periwinkle: I've been trying to figure this out myself. I have family within walking distance so I've asked my mom to stay with her. My section date is 9/1 but my due date is 9/2. They will start checking availability at 39 weeks so it might end up being a short notice thing. I'm concerned about a middle of night event which is what happened with her. It was easier to go with the flow last time. I only had to worry about my dog.

  24. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@Periwinkle: Heartburn yes. My first LO was born with a full head of hair so I feel like that particular old wives' tale is true especially since our last ultrasound showed that this kiddo has hair already as well!

@skipra: Oh man! That sucks. First, that this baby has fluid on the kidneys and second, that the TG surprise seems to have been ruined by this news. Migraines suck. I hope you are able to find relief. Might caffeine help? It's the only thing that really works for me when pregnant.

  25. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@skipra: I'm sorry that you are having such a rough day with the news about the kidney and the migraine. I hope that you get your surprise, because while it's most common in boys doesn't mean that it doesn't happen with girls. Is your doctor concerned?

@katsupgirl: Yes, this was so much easier last time because I only had to worry about the dog and our cats. Now I have to worry about my daughter, when I'm going into labor, if she will be going to school or we will pull her out, etc.

I made a cake for a dear friend who's father passed away this weekend. Leftover cake batter is soooo good. I regret nothing.

  26. mrsjd

    clementine / 777 posts

@skipra: My heart goes out to you. I'm sorry for the added worry and the TG disappointment. What a crappy way to (potentially) find out.

My good wishes for easy scheduling for all the second (and third) time moms in our group. I'm stressing about my puppies so I definitely can't imagine the added worry of a sibling. We don't have any family in town (everyone is 6+ hours away). I'm (almost) hoping for an induction just for scheduling ease.

Speaking of L&D, had my first cervical check today (ouch). I'm closed, which is good, I supposed. Belly is measuring a little small but within the normal range. But the best news is that she is head down!!! We did a quick scan to see. I was worried because she was breech at 24 weeks. So yay for that!

  27. maddyz

    persimmon / 1270 posts

@skipra: Such stressful news. And migraines are the worst. I am currently on an acupuncture fixes all my pregnancy aches and pains kick, so take this or leave it. But it's really helped with my head aches in the past.

I just had a midwife appointment this morning. All is looking good, despite measuring a little small she thinks the baby is about 6.5 pounds. So on my way to an 8 or so pound baby if she is right. LO1 was 9 pounds, so maybe a little smaller this time around. Head is down and all looks good.

@maddyz: Great news! I wish I'd gotten a size estimate. I'm super curious. My mama had smallish babies.

@maddyz: I've been following along here because although my due date is 10/12, first dtr's was 10/17 and she came in at 8lbs 8oz at 37weeks! At the midwife appt a week before my dtr was born she told me that she thought labor would come soon, but that it was a "6.5lb baby-- at most."

Am so hoping that this one doesn't bake all the way to 40 weeks or else we'll have a giant!

@mrsjd: Yay for head down! Looks like all of our breech babies turned so far!

@maddyz: Very similar to what my doc told me. I'm so interested to find out what size these second kiddos are.

    persimmon / 1270 posts

@mand4: LO was two days late and 9 pound. I also hope this one is timely, although I dont think he will be as big as LO1. I just dont feel like i have as much to give.

I think they were surprised at how big LO1 was. He was also 22.5" so very long.

  32. Periwinkle

    pear / 1879 posts

So good to know your thoughts on the "how to plan" part of this with a LO at home. I hadn't given this much thought before the last few weeks and for some reason, thinking about that component makes this all seem so real!

@skipra: I am so sorry about the day you had yesterday. It sounds like the kidney issue will resolve itself but still very worrisome. And also for the fact that I know you're disappointed to have (maybe!) opened the surprise sooner than you would have liked. I did some quick reading and while it seems like the occurrence is more for boys, there were some pieces of information out there which point to "gender equality" with this issue. But still, I know how that feels, having been TG last time and not wanting to read into any of the symptoms, etc. before LO was born. I just hope you're still surprised, either way, when LO is born How are you feeling today? Is your migraine any better?

@mrsjd: So glad your appointment today went well! Ouch on the cervical check but yay that everything is closed and that she is in the right position! And how exciting that you got to take another look at her! Very glad you're still in range even if your stomach is measuring a bit small.

  33. Periwinkle

    pear / 1879 posts

@maddyz: So glad your appointment went well too! It's so much fun to estimate the size of these babies now that we're getting so close!

Based on our growth scan last week, this baby weighs around 4 1/2 lbs so far, so I am very curious to see what happens over the next 7 or so weeks. LO was 7 lbs 2 oz so it will be interesting to see how this baby grows for the remainder of the pregnancy.

@Periwinkle: We don't have a totally clear plan, but my mom and sister both have pretty flexible schedules so they both know to be expecting a call. We live very close to the hospital so we can either wait at home for one of them to show up or take him together hospital with us until they can get there if necessary. We did put their names on his pickup list at preschool, too, just in case I go into labor during his school.

@MrsKoala: Sorry you aren't feeling great. I have been having a little heartburn, but mostly I just feel so full all the time like my belly can't stretch any further!

@skipra: Sorry you got some bad news, but glad it seems to be something that'll work itself out. Does it really never happen with girls?

@mrsjd: Yea! Head down! I am always too scared to get cervical checks because I'm afraid I'll get my hopes up that something is happening and then just stay at that same spot for weeks.

Tomorrow is my first weekly appt. and I'll find out if baby had turned head down. I am trying to be optimistic!

Today has been a weird day. After lunch, I started to feel like garbage. Not sick, just extremely sleepy and slow. I checked my glucose and it was okay at 107 two hours after I ate. I had my snack and started to perk up, but then I got up And could barely walk. It's like my left butt cheek was trying to cramp. I couldn't even carry H to the car, our daycare director had to (H would not walk, she wanted to be carried). Then she told me that baby looked lower than she had this morning. 😳

So I think I am calling in sick tomorrow, moving my chiro appointment up of possible and seeing if I can get checked out by the midwives. I just feel off.

@avivoca: I hope you were able to get some rest last night. I have been having some days like that, where I feel like my body just won't cooperate and I cannot move at all. I also hope you were able to stay home today and get an appointment with your chiropractor and your midwife. Keep us posted.
