@Smurfette: Glad you guys had a fun day yesterday!!! Bummer your husband is back to being gone though. I have no idea how you do it!

I haven't noticed Xander rolling his eyes, but he does shake his head around like a crazy person and get dizzy, so... I'm guessing these babies are just crazy?

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, B was really sad to see DH leave yesterday too. B has never rolled his eyes he just shakes his head like a crazy person. Silly babies...

ETA: Maybe ask at daycare whether they have ever seen something like this.

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Pumuckl: They have seen it. She just started doing it more over the weekend. Her teacher said that she does it in reaction to when they ask her to do something. but over the weekend she did it just sitting playing in the tub, in her car seat, etc. I am going to call the pedi this morning.

  4. Pumuckl

@Smurfette: Yeah I guess it's a good idea to do that. Better safe than sorry! Hope it turns out to be nothing.

We have our hospital appointment coming up tomorrow. I'm getting a little nervous as to what they'll do to my little cutie tomorrow.

@Adira: So glad Xander is feeling better!
@Smurfette: Did you get an answer from the pediatrician? I was thinking about y'all this morning...

@cheert16: @Pumuckl: So exciting about your pregnancies. All these pregnancies are making me anxious to start trying!! But the time line we have set is best for us so I will just have to be patient.

  7. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

    @Pumuckl: Fingers crossed for you!
@cheert16: Wow!! 9 weeks. You aren't having any symptoms? At least you won't have a Christmas baby.
@travellingbee: I was on a conference call for over an hour and then meetings so I didn't have a chance to call this morning. Now I am waiting for them to open back from lunch break.

Do any of you guys send lunch/snacks to childcare?

We've finally found a daycare we feel good about, but we have to send food. Packing a lunch for my kid seems like this very grown up parent thing that I have no idea how to do. We usually do leftovers at home, which I can send with her most days. Snacks? I mean, somedays she doesn't have a veggie at lunch, will I be judged? What kind of a lunch box? Do I send a plate and utensils?

I think freaking out about packing lunch is my way of managing my anxiety about not being with her all of the time. So...I know I'm being ridiculous, but I appreciate your gentle guidance regardless

@cheert16, omg, 9 weeks! You're almost out of the worst part, haha!

@Smurfette: Any word from ped on the eyes? I saw your earlier post but I the weekend was so crazy with sick baby and family stuff all weekend that I didn't have a moment to respond. I have never seen Pete do that with his eyes but had a somewhat similar situation where he weirdly started nodding his head up and down, on a tilt, all the time. It was a bit like a tic and I wasn't sure whether or not he could control/stop it. Long story short, we saw two pediatricians about it, they weren't too worried, and he outgrew it in about a month. I hope the same is true with R!

@cheert16: Oh my goodness, congratulations!! How exciting! You are almost a quarter of the way there!

@travellingbee: I know, I feel the same way (re: all these pregnancies)!

@Pumuckl: That is such an incredible maternity/paternity leave! I love how they value the importance of dads having time with the baby/helping out. I wish the US would give dads some time with their babies too.

Pete is super congested today. He didn't nap at all at daycare and I left work a bit early to get him to bed. I gave him Motrin, elevated his mattress, put a little vapor rub on his chest, and used saline and the nose frieda on his nose. Pulled out all the stops! He's sleeping now but he keeps coughing and waking himself up. I think it's going to be a long night and I'm not sure whether to send him to daycare tomorrow or to take the day to stay home with him. I will feel so guilty either way, hate it.

On that note, I should get to bed because I'm not sure how much sleep I'm going to get! Gnight!

@cheert16: so I don't want to be pregnant at all, but finding out you are already 9 weeks sounds kind of awesome. Almost done the first tri! Yay!

@QueensBee: poor guy. I hope you both can get some sleep!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Silva: I don't send since she moved up to the toddler room. They provide snacks and I buy school lunch. Our day care says you have to send healthy lunches, 2 veggies or a fruit and veggie but really they don't watch it. They have to tell parents that cause the state regulates it. I think it is fine if you send leftovers and no veggies. Send some fruit for a snack to make up for it. One thing is will they heat up lunches? Ours technically isn't allowed to so you are supposed to send cold or in a thermos to stay hot. I would send utensils, just make sure you label it!

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: poor guy! I hope you both get some sleep tonight.
The nurse said to just watch it and try and document when she is doing it. She felt certain she was seeing us, ok me, doing to and that is why she is doing it. But if it starts to increase to call back or if she starts reacting to it.

  16. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Silva: Awe, sorry you are feeling anxious about the transition. You both will do great!
As far as lunches, we have to send lunch every day and yes, it's a big old pain. I can't lie!

I bought a cooler bag off amazon and these lunch containers:
    http://www.amazon.com/Anchor-Hocking-Rectangular-Container-TrueSeal/dp/B00CE6Q1JW/ref=pd_sim_hg_9?ie=UTF8&refRID=0MRD7KD0ARTB5VWFXHK2
They've been a good size, are leak proof, and heat nicely in the microwave (sans the lid).

For breakfast, I've been making a double batch of paleo egg/zucchini/carrots muffins one weekend each month, which I freeze, defrost, and then I send in one each day. I figure that, even if he doesn't eat another vegetable all day, at least he's had some carrots and zucchini in his breakfast! I can send the recipe if you're interested. It's super easy.

For lunch, I usually bake two sweet potatoes on a Sunday afternoon and send in half a potato each day. Breaded chicken cutlets are also easy to make ahead and last a few days. I also send in bananas or a green smoothie if I have time to make one in the morning. Or, a greek yogurt with honey and fresh fruit.

I also send in leftovers from our own dinner all the time. For example, tomorrow he is getting leftover steak and potatoes, and avocado. No vegetables! Don't feel ashamed!

Those are our regular go-tos. Some days are healthier than others, for sure! Sorry this post is all over the place and not very organized. You will definitely get in a groove once it gets rolling! When does she start? Good luck!

  17. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@Smurfette: she said she will heat it up! And I think refrigerate, too....it's an in home. Do you use anything special for labeling everything?

@QueensBee: so helpful, thank you! She doesn't start until august! Ha! I just like to be reeeeeally prepared for everything. And making lists on amazon helps me feel in control
I'd love the recipe! I've pinned a few of those kind of things on Pinterest, like broccoli pancakes, etc., but haven't tried any yet. I should test a few and find some she likes. She will only be going 3 days a week, so things I can freeze are ideal!

@cheert16: 12/13/14 would be such a cool birthday - congratulations!

@Smurfette: I've seen J shake his head, but not roll his eyes. I hope it's nothing but silly toddler behavior!

@QueensBee: Poor Pete! Hope he feels better and that you get some rest tonight.

@Silva: We had to send lunches at our old daycare, but our new daycare provides lunch. I really liked the Yumbox for sending lunches bento style - that way I was able to give a variety. You guys will do great!!

@Adira: Glad Xander is on the mend!

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Silva: we bought waterproof labels but honestly painters tape works better. Comes off super easy when you need to take it off. But it stays on the cup, spoon, etc even during washing. The label in her sippy cup has been there for a couple months now.

  20. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@cheert16: Wow, how cool of a due date is that! And yay for nearly being done with the first trimester.

@QueensBee: Hope your night went at least half decently.

@Silva: We thankfully don't have to send foods/drinks to daycare so I am no help. But I agree with what the others said: Leftovers and some fruit sounds like a jolly good plan to me.

So we just got back from the hospital. It took forever until our dr. showed up but she was really, really nice. I don't think B found her to be nice though because she had to take a blood sample and with my chunky little guy they ended up doing it on the head again So three grown-ups pinning little man down again. He did get a stuffed animal as a reward from the clinic though. Once they have the lab results back they call me and we'll then see how to proceed. So FX that there is nothing crazy going on. Everything other than normal markers would send us to the hospital as an inpatient

  21. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@Pumuckl: oh,I'm sorry. I hope things come back normal.

    @Pumuckl:

  23. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

Dr. just called and his markers are lower but not normal
But she also says that since he is otherwise totally healthy that it'd be cruel to do all kind of tests on him that would likely just show it needs more time. So her suggestion is that we do another blood draw in 4-6weeks and see from there. If they are still sinking we're all good if not we'll directly go to inpatient treatment. So FX the marker will continue falling.

As a side note though since this liver chaos is still because of this weird "stay away from pregnant ladies"-virus the dr told me that I now have to make sure that I have a titer... Uff, this afternoon my ob/gyn is closed so I'll have to do that tomorrow. This just gets better and better everytime...

  24. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Smurfette: Glad that the nurse wasn't too concerned. Hopefully she's just figuring out her body and it's not an involuntary thing.

@Silva: Glad it was helpful! I will try to get the recipe online once Pete takes his nap in a few minutes. I also recommend painters tape or washi tape to label the containers.

@Pumuckl: This sounds so stressful. But I'm glad the doctor is optimistic he just needs more time. What is a tither? I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, hope everything works out okay at the ob/gyn.

I'm home with Pete today. He actually slept through the night, which was shocking to me. I woke up at 5:30am and leapt out of bed b/c I was sure that something terrible had happened to him. I just couldn't believe that he slept so long with such congestion! But as soon as I stood outside his door, i heard his little congested snore so I knew he was still okay in there. He's in good spirits today but he still has a ton of snot leaking from his nose. So gross. He's also tugging on his ear a bit so I may send him to ped if it's still happening tomorrow.

I'm sorry I'm so MIA. Life's a little crazy at the moment.

Congrats to all the new mamas! I can't believe there are so many having LOs at the same time-ish. @cheert16: Finding out your pregnant towards the end of the first tri is sooooo the way to do it!

@Pumuckl: Congrats, and also hope that the markers keep falling. What is a titer? I'm about to go google it. Your mat. leave sounds AMAZING! America looks bad compared to pretty much all countries when it comes to mat. leave, but Germany sounds like it puts a lot of places to shame!

@blackbird: I just want babies that come out sleeping through the night, which for ours was like 9 or 10 months, so I guess I want all future children to be born just shy of a year!

We're generally doing okay. My granddad's funeral was last week, so that's been an emotional roller coaster. He was very old, but it's hard to say goodbye. We're starting to look at buying our first house when we move in August. We're really excited, but it's kind of stressful trying to figure out the timing since our landlord is being difficult and we may have to be out of our rent house 2 1./2 weeks before we are supposed to move. As of Monday, our daycare also told us that they changed the dates for the new school year, so now we don't have childcare for the last two weeks of work either. Ughhh. It just feels like we have so many balls in the air right now. The Toddler Dudes are doing good. Finn finally got over an ear infection that had failed to respond to medicine, and he's much happier now.

In other news, Elliot has started trying to bite, which is sooo frustrating. I hate the biting phase. Not fun. Also, I'm a little concerned about their language development. They still really don't say any words consistently, even mama or dada. They babble all the time, but they just don't say words really. They've said hi, bye, & dada a few times, but it's super sporadic. I keep telling myself that (1) they're twins, and language delays are common, (2) they're boys, and language delays are more common, and (3) they were a month premature, so it makes sense that it might take them a bit longer, but I can't help but be a little concerned.

  29. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Smurfette: Okay then I'll explain A titer is basically if you are immune to a certain disease. This can either happen by vaccination or by actually having had the virus.

At least this is how I understand it.

  30. keepcalmcarrie

    persimmon / 1096 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I'm worried about Jack's language too - and he's not a twin and wasn't premature. He babbles constantly, and points to all kinds of things when I say "Where's the... (tree, dog, mama, dada, light, shoe, car etc). But he mostly says "Dadadadadada" and "uh?" like a questioning grunt, haha! He has said "mama" and "dada," and things that sounded like "bye" and "ball," but because they are so sporadic I'm not sure they count.

And he tried to bite me yesterday too. Very slowly, it was kind of funny, he was just seeing what would happen, but I'm hoping that doesn't become a common thing.

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: The nurse told me to stay away from Doc Google! Ha! Glad that P slept great!! I hope after snuggles with you at home today, he is feeling better.
@Mrs. Blue: I am so sorry you are having to deal with all that at once. Could you and the boys leave early and go stay with your parents and then DH stay in a hotel to finish work? Biting, ouch! I am not looking forward to that phase. I wouldn't worry about the talking. I think it is totally normal.
    @Pumuckl: Gotcha!

  32. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

We have to make sure the bathroom door is shut at all times. R is trying to climb into the tub any time the door is open. I was sitting there filling up the water last night and she almost did make it up. She is also trying to climb out the crib. Good thing she is a shorty.

@QueensBee: Sorry to hear that Pete is sick!!! I hope he feels better soon!

@Pumuckl: Awww, I'm sorry about B! That sounds dreadful! I hate it when we have to do things to our little babies that hurts just to try to help them. And I'm sorry you didn't get conclusive results! That sucks.

  34. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@keepcalmcarrie: They don't even point to things when we ask, so at least he's doing that! Our daycare teacher has been taking care d kids forever and she said she would be worried a all about them, right now, so I'm hoping she's right. It would just be so nice for them to be able to at least communicate when theiy're hungry, thirsty, etc. E thinks it's hilarious when he tries to bite me and I say no. He definitely doesn't get that it hurts; I'm pretty sure he thinks it's just a fun, new trick. Oy!

  35. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Smurfette: Nooooo!!!!! R cannot, repeat CANNOT start trying to climb out of the crib! She's always leading the way I physical achievements and then the other March babies start getting ideas, and I am so, so, so not ready for that.

  36. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@pumuckl, aw that is so so stressful. I hope all the worry is for nothing and the next results show things keep improving.

@smurfette, omg, E tries to climb into the tub, too. I have to watch her because she IS tall enough to slip in, if she's leaning over. She just gets so damn excited for bath time.

@mrs. blue, so stressful Hopefully soon this is all behind you. I'm anxious awaiting to see what's going on with your new life!

I'm not sure what we'll do when the crib is behind us. Probably a floor bed? She's the kind of kid who would wake up and start playing with everything, so that concerns me. She can easily pull a diaper thing over onto her. We'd have to bolt furniture to the wall....oye. Too much to think about right now. Hopefully that's a ways off.

  37. Smurfette
