I just can't get over how much Isaac loves his little cousin. Today again he was so excited to rock and pat/poke at her. He did get jealous a couple times when I was holding her. It is crazy, at two months she weighs how much Isaac did at 2 weeks.

I'm so over these molars! I'll throw my baby I the ring with the rest of you!

@Mrs. Blue: You should definitely use the spa certificate. Some relaxation in this hectic time would be good.

@Corduroy: Glad the weaning is going well. Hopefully this infection clears up quickly.

@Mrs. High Heels: 18 month sleep regression, take that back!!! Lol. I don't even want to think about it.

I hope I'm not creating really bad habits while we are away but when Isaac wakes up I've been letting him sleep in bed with me so when he wakes up again I don't have to get up.

Ugh, girls, I think I finally earned my last piece of mom cred... caught vomit in my bare hands... *shudder*

@Smurfette: Spit up is pretty gross too! They're all gross, lol!

@Mrs. Blue: Cheers then, it will be a fest I'm thinking the yummy bubbly stuff might also be an option

Hope today goes better for you!

@ALV91711: Glad to hear Isaac is being such a good big cousin. He's probably praticing to being a big brother one day

@Adira: Oh girl, I cannot even handle poopy diaper changes currently without having to dry heave (I each and every day pray he goes #2 in daycare). I am in awe of you being able to handle that without - you know - there being even more vomit...

  6. ALV91711

@Adira: So gross! How did you not vomit yourself?

@Pumuckl: Ugh, poop is worse for me! I once was changing Xander's diaper and I thought he was done pooping and it just kept coming out!!! I thought I was going to die, I was gagging so bad!!!

@ALV91711: haha, I have no idea! I think it helped that he had JUST thrown up all over his car seat and I had to wash it, so I was a little numb to the whole thing!

    Hi all!

I've fallen so behind during these busy last few weeks of the school year!

    Quick updates on our end:
Pete has started saying his own version of "up" and he says, "uh oh!" all the time now! Still no mama or dada but we're working on it. I really want him to say it in time for his 15 month ped appointment in a few weeks!

He was baptized on Sunday during a really sweet ceremony at our new church. Three dads from the congregation gave speeches on fatherhood as part of the sermon (I was crying, they were so heartfelt) so it was a beautiful service all around. We had both great grandmas fly in from the midwest to be there, as well as other family members. It was a busy but fun weekend!

On that note, I was surprised by how little separation anxiety Pete has right now. He was passed around from relative to relative this weekend, and he was equally happy in everyone's arms. During the baptism, I had to pass him to the minister and I was sure he would scream and squirm but no, he was totally happy to be in the arms of this stranger!

Sleep has been fairly terrible for the past few days with many MOTN wakings. I think he's finally transitioning to one long nap in the middle of the day (I hope!). He usually falls asleep at 6:30pm but for the past few days he has insisted on staying awake until 8pm. The benefit is that he's been sleeping in until 7:15am, which is perfect now that I'm home for the summer.

Alright off to read what you all have been up to on the thread! Will be back soon!

@QueensBee: It's so cute when they finally start saying real words!!! Love it!! And I'm so impressed that Pete was okay being passed around from person to person! Xander would've had a fit!!! Bummer about the MOTN wakings too. Sounds like a lot of people are dealing with those.

@Adira: OMG the "na-na!" is soooo cute!! Sorry about the puke though, yuck! My all time motherhood low is when I am so desperate to use the nose frieda-snot sucker, that I use it without any filter in there. Makes me want to vomit but when you have a sick baby, ya gotta do what you gotta do!

@ALV91711: Isaac sounds so sweet with his little cousin! Does it give you baby fever to watch? We allow Pete to sleep in bed with us too, in order to catch a little extra sleep. I also hope it's not a terrible habit!

@Corduroy: So happy to hear the weaning has been successful! I hope the 5:30pm meltdown ends soon.

@Mrs. Blue: Spa day, spa day! Definitely take advantage and give yourself a little R&R, even if it's just for an hour.

@Smurfette: So happy that R woke up in a better mood! I have to say, even throwing a whiney fit, she looked so cute in her little pink shorts! I hope her teeth feel better asap.

@QueensBee: Those shorts are so tight on her all the sudden. They have a tight band on the thighs so they ride up and it looks like she has booty shorts on. But I don't want to buy any more summer stuff!
She slept last night so that was good!

Ugh, we're having a rough night... Xander has been crying for the past hour and a half. Gave him Tylenol, but I guess it didn't help...

@Adira: poor guy!!! Did he go to sleep?

R had a great day, almost 2 hour nap, ate PEAS and CARROTS for lunch, what!?!? She was in a great mood at home too. Totally different then last night. She was drooling but I don't see that a tooth broke through. Not sure what was up. She rolled around and layed in her crib for 50 mins before going to sleep. Silly girl!

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yes, FINALLY at about 8:20! I'm just hoping now that he actually sleeps through the night and that we're not in for multiple wake ups tonight...

Ooooh, your post about R actually eating peas and carrots reminds me! Xander actually ate some SAUSAGE today at daycare!!!! So excited for this progress!!!

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

We ended up lucky! He woke up again around 9:40 but was able to put himself back to sleep and then slept through the night! And this morning as I was leaving for work, I could hear that he was awake, but he was just babbling to himself! Phew!

@Adira: R loves sausage! Eats turkey sausage for breakfast. She loves Turkey kielbasa and chicken sausage for dinner. These are her favorite. Will eat a whole link. Have you tried chicken nuggets? I buy frozen ones and cook in the microwave. She loves them. Those are about the only meats she will eat, plus turkey meatballs.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I think it was turkey sausage that they gave her at daycare. I have chicken sausage at home, so I'll have to try it again. I also have chicken nuggets, but I haven't tried them recently because the last few times, he just threw them on the floor without trying, but maybe I'll try again! Do you cut up the nuggets or just serve as is?

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I cut them up. She is getting better about biting pieces off big pieces but for the most part she stuff them in her mouth at once. Sun, we got her a kids quesdilla, and I cut up one slice and she wouldn't eat it, but grabbed a whole slice and took bites.

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Okay, I'll just have to try again with Xander! Maybe tonight! And that's how Xander is with bread - he likes to just be given the whole slice and he'll take bites and eat it himself!

  25. Smurfette

No crying at drop off today!! She took a 2hr and 20 min nap yesterday! Day care record!!

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: YAY!!!! Congratulations!!! And that nap is AWESOME! I hope today goes just as well!

I tried sausage with Xander last night. He chewed on a piece and then spit it out and threw all the other pieces onto the floor... I guess he wasn't a fan?

  27. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah the teacher said they all slept that long. Amazing!

Bummer! I would keep offering it. Or maybe it will be one of the things he eats at day care but not at home.

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: It might've also been the flavor. Daycare has some sort of turkey sausage and mine was chicken sausage. I'll just keep trying though and see what happens!

@Adira: Oof, I don't think I've ever caught vomit in my bare hands before! How is Xander feeling now?

@QueensBee: That's amazing that Pete has no separation anxiety! Congratulations on his baptism too - sounds like it was perfect.

@Smurfette: Peas AND carrots?! Gosh R, you even put my husband to shame! And hooray for no crying at drop off and the incredible nap!! It's crazy how our kids can really make or break our days.

@Adira: J loves the Applegate farms chicken apple breakfast sausages - they're a hit with both kids. Maybe try that one? It's nice and small too so he likes to chew it whole and hold it like a banana, so I don't have to cut it for him.

J's top two incisors broke through!! He has 4 teeth on the bottom that look like they're about to break through too - his gums are really swollen on both his left and right sides. He always gets so many teeth all at once! He's had only 7 teeth for months and months now, then all of a sudden he's about to get 6 new ones. Crazy. I hate teething.

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: He seems fine! I have no idea what was wrong, haha.

@Mrs. High Heels: That's the one I have!!!! Oh wait, no, I have the Applegate maple one. I'll have to try the apple one! Thanks for the tip!! I'll also try just giving it to him whole and not cut up and see how that goes.

YAY for incisors FINALLY breaking in!!! I'm still waiting for Xander's bottom side ones to come in. That sucks he's getting so many at once though. Poor baby!

@Smurfette: Two hours and twenty minute nap at daycare?! That's amazing! So happy that she's finally getting rest at daycare. It must make you feel even better about your decision to make the switch.

@Adira: Of course he'll only east sausage for his daycare teachers! Little bugger!

We tried out the daycare service at our gym for the first time today. I think I don't give Pete enough credit. I was legitimately worried that he'd cling to me and cry or throw a fit while I was working out. It was totally the opposite. I brought him to the babysitting room and he ran off to play with toys. He was happy as a clam when I went to pick him up over an hour later! It was such a nice outing for the two of us, especially because today is rainy and he tuckered himself out playing with the other kids there. Plus, it's free childcare (well, it's included in the membership price). Why didn't I try doing this months ago?!

We had the boys' 15-month appointment yesterday. They're both doing great and gaining on the growth chart. Finn now weighs 22 lbs. and 2 oz. and is 30 inches. Elliot is 23 lbs. 8 oz. and 30 3/4 inches.

We talked about their language. They sstill really have no words, though they do try to say "dog" for sure and they say mama and dada but not in a way that we're certain they're actually saying it to/about us. They also can't do things like point to a part of their body. They do sometimes follow directions, but it's hit or miss, which I think is probably normal for toddlers. Anyway, he said he did think they had a slight delay, but he wasn't concerned about it yet. He said boys do tend to develop language a little bit later and that their ear infections might have slowed it down a bit more on top of that. He said if they don't have 6 words by 18 months that he would recommend speech therapy at that point.

@Mrs. High Heels: E & F are the same with teething. They had no teeth forever, and then got 6 all at once. They have been stuck at 6 teeth for probably 5 months, and I think they are sloooowly working on another 6 or so, but none have cut through yet. Teething is NOT my favorite thing about parenting.

@QueensBee: Um, that is AWESOME that your gym has childcare AND that Pete was totally cool with it!!! Lucky!!!

@Mrs. High Heels: Well at least you know why he is in so pain and being a pain! But ouch! Poor guy!!! R is back to acting like normal but I don't see a tooth. So no clue what is going on, cause she is still drooling like crazy.

@QueensBee: I really think it is working out so much better. I don't love the teachers as much but I am warming up to them. That is awesome! Will be great for you this summer to get a little you time! Too bad you can't drop him off and go meet a friend for lunch

@Mrs. High Heels: Oh my gosh, six teeth coming in at once?! You poor thing! At least the two incisors have broken through. I hope you get a long teething break after the molars come in!

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: They are getting so big!!! I am trying to teach R the body parts and she won't pay attention to me at all. They will get there with words. We just have to give them time. At least I tell myself cause R just gruts and babbles all day. No way does it sound like words to me.

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I can imagine too that since the boys can just babble to each other all the time, they may have even less incentive to learn "real" language. Glad to hear that your pediatrician wasn't too concerned, though learning 6 words in 3 months sounds crazy to me! But maybe as they get older, they start learning new words faster??

Also, how is that your two TWIN boys who were born early are bigger than my one???? What are you feeding them???

  38. QueensBee

@Mrs. Blue: Glad they are growing so well and had a great check up with the ped! Thanks for sharing your docs language analysis and advice. I know there of many of of us Spring 2013 Mamas concerned about language and I find it so helpful to hear how different doctors handle it. I never considered the idea that ear infections would slow down language. Makes sense though! I'm glad he/she wasn't concerned right now. Here's hoping they have one of those so-called language explosions in the next few months! I'll let you know what our doc says about Pete's lack of speech when we see her on June 25th...
