@QueensBee: That's amazing that he did so well at the gym daycare, now you can workout and leave him and not worry - I'm sure he's loving the new environment and toys too! Our childcare at the gym would be an additional $25/month on top of our current gym membership, so that's such a great perk that it's free for you!

@Mrs. Blue: I don't know if this might even help at all, but have you tried fish oil? When I read the reviews I'm amazed at how much progress some of these kids make - http://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Natural-Childrens-DHA/dp/B000ORY45G/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1403191816&sr=8-5&keywords=fish+oil+toddlers. I recently started giving J a spoonful of this after his breakfast. I worry about J's language too. I don't even get an 18 month appointment, now I'm wondering if I should schedule one anyway because you all seem to get an 18 month appointment, and that is such a big milestone time!

@Smurfette: Very true - It's always nice to have a reason and explanation for why things are off.

@Mrs. Blue: Have you fed them peanut butter? I was actually just thinking about introducing it to Xander, but I'm scared...

  3. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, they couldn't care less when I try to play the "Where's your nose?" game.

@Adira: 6 words does seem like a lot, but then I think about other stages and how much they changed in the course of 3 months and it seems more hypothetically doable.

@QueensBee: Yeah, I'd love to hear what your doc says, too!

I'm really not bothered by the idea of them needing speech therapy. I just want to make sure we get intervention as early as possible so any delay won't be compounded. I have no concerns about them having a long term delay. I think they just don't really need to talk because they can just babble to each other and they seem to know what they're talking about. Plus, they just don't really seem to care much about communication; all they want to do is run, climb, jump, etc.

  4. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Interesting! I'm going to order it and try. Why not, right?

@Adira: Yeah, we had to introduce it at the ped's because they had a little higher risk of reaction. If you're worried about it, you could always take something with some peanut butter and give it to him in the parking lot of the doctor's office or hospital so if he has a reaction you're right there. I've heard of other people doing that.

  5. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Hmm... yeah, maybe we'll do that! Since his reaction to dairy, I've been afraid to introduce him to other common allergens!

  6. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Mrs. Blue: @Adira: I am deathly afraid to give J peanut butter because Noelle has a peanut allergy and we've had to go to the ER twice with her. I don't think J has any allergies, but you never know... we have NO history of PB allergies on either side of the family, and Noelle still had it. I don't even feel comfortable risking it at the doctor's office. We don't bring peanuts into our home and eat almond butter most of the time anyway, so I'm not really interested in introducing it to him.

@Mrs. Blue: Yea, definitely doesn't hurt! I'm considering getting some for myself since I'm not taking prenatals with DHA anymore. My brain has definitely gone kaput after two pregnancies and two kids.

  7. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: I can't say whether this is true for all doctor's offices, but ours specifically wanted us to introduce peanuts there because they had epi pens available and are next door to the children's hospital. I was so scared to do it, and we don't have anything as high risk as you do with N's allergy. I can't imagine how scary that would be!

@Smurfette: B has been drooling like crazy too and he has all his teeth except for his two year molars, I've been thinking it might be his two year molars coming in.

@Mrs. Blue: @Mrs. High Heels: @Adira: I haven't introduced peanuts to B yet... Bad mama. But peanut butter is something rather uncommon here so I'd have to really see where I get it from...

  9. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

Ugh, we're definitely teething here too. Xander was a big cranky pants when I picked him up from daycare, he has drool covering his shirt, and he was just whining and touching his gums.

@Pumuckl: Be glad to get them all out of the way before the new baby gets here!
    @Adira: boo!

@Mrs. Blue: You have such a positive attitude with the speech therapy. We're so lucky to have it as an option to give them a bit of a boost if they need it.

@Adira: Hope he sleeps well despite the teething today!!

@Mrs. High Heels: Oooh, I may try that fish oil as well! How did you hear about it? I haven't ordered it yet but the reviews did inspire me to run out and buy wild salmon for dinner tomorrow (plus I just love salmon)!

  12. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@QueensBee: Well, I probably have an advantage in that I'm a former elementary teacher, and I've seen the amazing results that can come from early intervention. It makes it easy for me to view it as just one more tool to help the kiddos, rather than something to be scared of.!

  13. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@QueensBee: I think I came across this because when I first had my daughter... I started giving her some formula around 10 months when my supply started dipping, and the formula I chose did not have DHA in it, so I looked into fish oil and read all the positive stories. My daughter had about 10 words at 12 months, and was able to string together two word phrases already. I always thought part of this had to do with the fish oil!

I didn't do fish oil with Jaren sooner because he was breastfed longer than my daughter (until 14 months), so I figured he was getting some DHA benefits through breastmilk and the prenatals I was still taking... but since I always wondered if my daughter's verbal abilities were because of all the fish oil I gave her, I decided to pick up the fish oil again to see if this will help J's language acquisition.

    I love salmon too!! YUM!!

  14. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I totally agree!! And reading all the positive stories on the blog and in the boards about early intervention has really helped me see it as just another tool in our parenting toolkit and nothing to be ashamed about.

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: He did! We were lucky!!

@Mrs. High Heels: I think, in general, girls develop their language skills earlier than boys, so it makes sense to me that your daughter probably had more words than J at the same age, just because of the gender difference. But you'll have to let us know if introducing some DHA to J seems to make a difference!

Do yall do vitamins for LO? We don't right now for R but now that she has her molars, I think she could chew a gummi.

  17. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: Yea, I definitely don't disregard the fact that she's a girl - I know that has a lot to do with it too, and it's not like I could've done a controlled study, but I think DHA could've possibly given her a boost.

@Smurfette: I give N gummy vitamins, but didn't start until she was 2.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: It definitely could've!! I'm interesting in hearing if you feel it works for J too!

  19. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: I don't know if I'll ever know! I figure now that he just started daycare, he's approaching the 18 month mark, and just general development at this age... it'll be too hard to tell! My thoughts on Noelle are total speculation too.

  20. Adira

@Mrs. High Heels: haha, that's true! It at least can't hurt!

Oh my gosh, girls, I woke up this morning and thought Xander must've died! He slept 13 hours 35 minutes!!!!!!

  22. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: Amazing!!!! J wakes up like clockwork at 6:30 am every morning... wish he would sleep in... until 7 am is all I ask!

J's top two incisors broke through and he's been in a better mood the last 2 days!

What are ya'll up to this weekend? We'll probably take the kids to the carousel later, and then after their naps we are going to Mrs. Checkers' daughter's 3rd bday party.

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: stop bragging!! We are jumping up and down if we get 11.5

@Mrs. High Heels: yay! Stupid teeth!

R has a small fever and had a bad diaper so we skipped swim lessons. She even took a morning nap. Hope she feels better. We are still going on our date night since she is acting normal.

  24. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Smurfette: Same! J only gets about 11 hours of overnight sleep.

Could the fever be from teething? Poor girl! Glad she's acting normal though. Enjoy your date! What do you guys have planned for tonight?

  25. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: It was 101.5 yesterday which I think is too high for teething. Was 100 this morning. But wouldn't eat lunch and chewing her hand so who knows! We are going to Home Depot to buy a fan and paint! Then a patio for a drink and then dinner at 730. We are leaving around 5 so they have time to play before bed.

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: @Smurfette: Oh, believe me, I wasn't trying to brag! I think he must be sick because he NEVER sleeps longer than 11.5 hours for us either! Usually he wakes right at 6:30 (or earlier). Today was a major fluke for us!

We had a great day playing with cousins. We stayed longer than we planned and ended up starting the 90 min drive at 5:30. LO slept 6-7 in the car. Normal bedtime is 7:30. She was still trying to sleep when I took her out of the car seat so I tried nursing her to sleep. She went down easily but I have no idea what tonight has in store for me. Think good sleep thoughts for me ladies.

Hi! Checking in!! Sounds like your babies are all doing well and Whoa!! Is everyone pregnant?! Geesh! We had L's 15 month appt and he is doing well- 24 lbs 9 oz, 32.2in. Size 7 shoes!!!! And he's started talking a bit- mostly in the last couple of weeks. New words every few days- he says mamma, dada, papa, kitty cat, Hi, Bye-bye, various animal sounds, that, cookie, tickle... It's so fun hearing him learn new ones. But he's hitting a difficult stage with separation anxiety which has made it rough for me to do anything. And his sleep has regressed to crap again with at least one wake up . So, some good, some bad. But overall he's happy and healthy!

We are back home. What a great week it was. Of course we were both sick while we were at Grandma's so Isaac was a bit extra clingy, plus a molar is breaking through. Not much sleep was had. It was awesome holding and playing with a 2 month old though and the two babies just loved each other. She put up with everything Isaac did.

In the last week Isaac has gotten so much better at walking. I think I have a car sick kid. Yesterday on the way to the airport Isaac vomited all over my mom's new car.

He was such a breeze on our flights, he mostly just slept. I didn't even need any of the activities I brought for him.

I am so not looking forward to going to work tomorrow.

    @Adira: I'm with @Mrs. High Heels: & @Smurfette: ! I can't even imagine. I don't think either of our boys have ever slept more than 11 hours.

@Mrs. High Heels: Glad to hear the incisors finally came in and gave J some relief!!

@Smurfette: How was your date night?? How's R feeling now??

@Corduroy: Sounds like a fun time! How did the rest of the night go??

@travellingbee: Wow! Such an explosion of words! That's awesome!!! Bummer about the MOTN wake-ups though... boo.

@ALV91711: Yikes!! I hope Isaac isn't really car sick and it was just something else! Having to deal with sickness in the car all the time will SUCK!

  32. Smurfette

    @Corduroy: How was the night?
@travellingbee: Sounds like he is doing great! Well minus the sleep. Hope it gets better soon. And size 7, wow! R still is in a 3 or 4!
@ALV91711: Glad that you had a great visit, even if you were both sick. Oh no on the car sickness.
@Adira: Date night was great. We sneaked out around 5 when she was happily playing. So hard not being able to kiss her bye though. But my cousin said that she did great the whole night. She even pointed to her crib after books cause she wanted to go to bed.
No fever yesterday, so I took her to school today. Minor meltdown in the hallway when she saw the teacher, but I picked her up, and she went to the teacher ok. Looked super sad when I was leaving but at least no tears. I hate Mondays.

@Smurfette: Glad you had a good date night and that R did well with your cousin!! Bummer about this morning though. I'm so thankful I don't usually have to do drop-offs. I did on Friday and it was rough because Xander was just clinging to me. I hope it's all just the separation anxiety phase and they eventually are happy to be at school again!

@Smurfette: Yay, for a great date night. Bummer about the tears this morning though.
This morning was a mess for us because DH was actually home and somehow that made my routine go out the window. He did daycare drop-off though which is nice.

@ALV91711: Glad you had a great trip although car sickness is not so nice

@travellingbee: Glad L is healthy! Wow size 7 shoes, B is really tall but has small feet, he still wears the equivalent of a size 5.

@Corduroy: Hope your night went well. Sounds like you had a really good time though!

On the sleep, we usually average about 11-11.5h at night as well. This is were I really miss nursing because he used to go back down for another hour or 1.5h so - nowadays he's up for the day once he wakes at 6 or 6.30am.

  35. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Pumuckl: We can't seem to make it past 10 or 10.5 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes we can convince him to sleep anohter 30 minutes in bed with us and some milk. Why won't these babies sleep in a little bit more??

@Smurfette: Sounds like she did so great with your cousin! Sorry that Monday mornings are so rough. I hate doing drop off as well. It's a good sign that she didn't cry though.

@ALV91711: So happy you had a great week away! Awesome that flying was such a breeze! But egads, I also hope it's not a long term car sickness issue.

@travellingbee: So many new words! I know it does feel like everyone is pregnant, haha (not me!!)! I hope the sleep gets better for you soon.

@Corduroy: How was the rest of the night?

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@travellingbee: @QueensBee: No pregnancy over here either. DH is leaning more and more towards just one and done, even if we figure out how to make it work money wise. But I think I still want another, but I won't talk him into it. I think that is a recipe for disaster for our marriage, so we will see what we end up deciding. We do both agree we have a year to decide because of my age

  37. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Smurfette: Sounds like a great date night! We're going on our first date night this Saturday since Jaren was born - I can't wait! Yea Mondays are hard with drop offs with us too. It's usually the only day he cries - the rest of the week he's fine.

@Corduroy: How was your night? Hope she was good to you!! I was sending you good sleep vibes!

@travellingbee: Size 7 shoes!? My 3 year old daughter just grew out of size 7's! J is in the size 18-24 month pedipeds, which is the equivalent to 5.5 or 6 I think. And so many words!! Glad to hear he's doing so well.

@ALV91711: Glad you had a great time despite the cold and carsickness incident! It's hard coming back to work after a vacay like that.

@Adira: I usually don't do drop-offs either (hate them), but I have to do it all this week because DH is in Texas until Thursday for a business trip. Dropped the kids off extra early so that I could take him to the airport right after. @Smurfette: I don't know how you do it solo all week on a regular basis! And it feels so weird not to have DH next to me when I fall asleep.

@Pumuckl: Sounds like most of us have kids that sleep no more than 11-11.5 hours overnight - it's nice to know that it's typical.

@Mrs. High Heels: at this point it is all I know. I am just thankful he is home Thurs nights. So of his collegues are gone till Friday. Only been 3 weeks, but having him do drop off and pick on Friday's helps me mentally so much.
I do miss him sleeping next to me every night.

@Smurfette: Sounds like a fun date night. I think our last date involved a Home Depot too.

@travellingbee: @QueensBee: @Smurfette: I'm not pregnant either. I alternate between really wanting to be pregnant and being really happy with my LO and how things are right now.

Saturday night sleep worked out really well. LO went straight from her late car nap to bed and slept until her normal time (4:45). She skipped her second nap yesterday (she only takes it on weekends). She was up from 11:00am to 6:00pm and girl was super cranky. I put her to bed at 6:00 and she slept until 4am. I think this is the end of the two nap weekends.

She got her first real boo boo this weekend. She fell down one of the two steps in our entry way and landed face-first on the tile floor. I felt terrible when it happened and when I dropped off my bruised face LO at daycare this morning.

  40. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Corduroy: but it so nice shopping without having a LO with you. Even if it was at Home Depot! Glad that she slept good, well besides the 445 part. Ouch!! Yeah we had two weekends where she skipped the afternoon nap and I said no more, one nap!
Poor girl! At least you didn't send her with a busted lip like I did. her teacher said everyone was commenting on it and saying how bad it looked. Well no shit it looks bad. A busted lip isn't going to look pretty, but made me feel so much worse.
