@QueensBee: You're just fine! I wouldn't worry about it at all. They're still little. As long as he isn't 5 and only eating with his fingers, I think you're just fine.

@Silva: These are the sippy cups we have: amzn.to/1qHVHIx. Sadie's normally uses straw cups, but we use these for milk, because they're easier to clean. No spills or leaks at all! Definitely the best cups we've tried.

Well, Miss Sadie has a UTI. She has had a 100+ fever since last Thursday. She's been MISERABLE. Up all night crying, lethargic, won't eat anything. We took her to the doctor yesterday, and we were there for 4 hours! They couldn't figure out what the issues was, so they took a ton of blood and did some chest x-rays. She hated that. They also taped a little bag to her lady parts to collect pee, but she wouldn't pee (wouldn't drink anything), so it took forever. Got a call this morning that the urine cultures were positive, so we started her on an antibiotic this morning. With the antibiotic and the steady Tylenol + Motrin doses, I can tell she's starting to feel better. I've never seen her so unhappy and sick, so it was so good to see her running around and dancing tonight!

@QueensBee: Don't feel bad Isaac just learned to drink out of a straw last week. I've been trying to start giving him spoons and forks to use but I don't really ever think about it. I'm going to have to be better.

@Pumuckl: I let Isaac drink from an open cup if I'm holding it but I haven't braved giving it to him yet. You are braver than I.

@Silva: Glad sleep is going better and that you are night weaned. It must be nice to have nights you don't have to get out of bed. DH has been dealing with more of the wakeups the last couple nights because I'm sick and just refuse to get up every single time.

Sleep has hit an all time bad here. I don't know if it is because he is getting over a cold or molars or what but it seems like he is waking every 2-3 hours. I've been sending DH mostly since I'm super sick and don't want to get up but I have been nursing 2 times usually just to make the wake ups shorter. As soon as I'm feeling better I think we will have to come up with a new sleep training plan as this is just getting crazy. My 2 month niece sleeps better than this!

@Adira: I hope he picks up on eating food soon. Once he realizes what he has been missing out on I'm sure he won't be able to get enough of it.

@QueensBee: I'm scared for climbing. So far he only climbs into his chair and up & down the stairs.

@QueensBee: we give J utensils at meals, but at this point he mostly attempts to spoon things up, gets a little in his mouth, and uses his hands the rest of the time. it's quite the mess during mealtimes, but we just offer and hope that one day he'll get it! sometimes I want to spoon feed him because I don't want to deal with the mess (like tonight was curry with rice), but he won't have it... he INSISTS on eating himself, and grabs the utensils away from me.

@photojane: Poor Sadie! Hope she feels better now that she's getting the antibiotics.

@ALV91711: Oh man, I hope this sleep thing is a phase and passes soon. I feel like one week is a good week, then the next week is a bad week and so on and so forth. They're always going through something.

@Silva: Great to hear that night weaning has been successful for you guys - hooray!

@Silva: I'm sorry I'm only getting back to you now since I went to bed yesterday after that posting

Here's what we use, we've been using them for close to 6 months now, they really hardly leak at all:

@photojane: Aww, poor sweet Sadie!! Glad that she is starting to feel better.
@ALV91711: That is rough! I hope you come up with something that works. The whole house needs to get some sleep. What if you just did CIO? No checks?

@photojane: Oh poor Sadie, hope she'll get rid of it really soon! I hate how hopeless you feel when our LOs are so sick.

@ALV91711: Ha, I'm not brave, B only gets to try on very few days 'cause I cannot take the mess

@Mrs. High Heels: We had rice yesterday too and it was so funny to see him eat. He'll spoon some into his mouth and then take his hand to stuff more in it Very messy but kind of neat to watch how he gets better everyday.

@QueensBee: Sorry about Pete not liking the booster. Can you move the highchair to the table (maybe without a tray) to the table to get him used to sitting at the table? We have a highchair that doesn't have a tray so B has always sat at the table.

@photojane: Poor girl!!!!! Glad to hear she's starting to feel better, but what an ordeal!

@ALV91711: Yikes!!! Sorry to hear about the sleep issues!

@ALV91711: Oh boy, you need some sleep! I don't know how I ever functioned on such sporadic sleep. Now if Pete wakes up 1x, I'm a disaster. I hope he feels better soon and starts STTN more! Have you tried sleep training before? I can't remember...

@photojane: Glad to hear she's starting to feel back to her spunky self! It must be such a relief to finally know what's making her sick. I can't imagine spending 4 hours at the doctor's office with LO. I was in the waiting room for 20 minutes with him today and it felt like forever!

@Pumuckl: I think he was little overtired and cranky when I tried the booster for dinner. I'm going to try again right after his nap with some of his favorite foods to see if he'll come around. I'll let you know how it goes! We already do pull him up to the table in his highchair without the tray, so I'm not sure why the booster would feel so different to him. Silly babies!

@Mrs. High Heels: Yes, Pete has refused to eat from a spoon for months now and each meal is a messy disaster! Sometimes I find peas across the room and I can't believe how large the disaster zone is! But it's really helped his fine motor skills and I know he loves to feel the different textures and temperatures so that's the bright side. The worst for us is yogurt but curry sounds like it would be bad too!

@photojane: @Mrs. High Heels: @ALV91711: @smurfette: @Adira: Thanks for the encouragement! I gave him a little fork with his pancakes this morning and he actually used it!! He picked up a bite of pancake with the fork and then used his other hand to take the pancake off the fork and stuff it in his mouth. At least he has the idea of using the fork!

Pete vomited for the first time today. A big one, all over our new rug! He had been super clingy and tired for most of the day, resulting in some major tantrums, and then refused lunch. I didn't realize he was feeling bad, so I convinced him to drink his green smoothie. That's what came back up 30 minutes later. I call the whole episode "Revenge of the Green Smoothie."

I spoke with the ped and we are on a pedialyte and toast diet for the next day. Poor little bugger. At least he's sleeping soundly right now. I hope he wakes up with his hearty appetite back.

We were scheduled to have his 15 month check up tomorrow but now I may postpone it since they won't give him his vaccinations and we'd have to go back again. But I'm so curious to see how tall he is and how much he weighs, I can't decide!

So I have been MIA for a few weeks! But things are good- Lil B is doing great. We finally bottle weaned him (wooh!) but are stll trying to get him to drink milk through a straw cup or sippy- I think he kinda hates milk! I give him a yogurt and some cheese everyday in hopes it will help because he isn't dinking much milk (maybe 6 oz a day- if we are lucky.....) He loves water!

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Oh no!!!! Poor Pete!!! Vomiting babies are the worst! Will he drink the pedialyte? I had problems getting Xander to drink it when he was sick. Luckily he was willing to eat a lot of apple juice which is very watery, so he didn't get dehydrated. Hope Pete feels better soon (and you're able to salvage the rug)!

@cheert16: Congratulations on bottle weaning!!! And I think it's normal that they don't drink as much for the first few weeks after bottle weaning. Xander hardly drank any milk for a few weeks, but now he usually drinks about 12 oz a day (and has at least 6-9 oz yogurt).

So has anyone else's son discovered his penis? J was grabbing at his crotch so much after dinner yesterday! Just walking around, holding his crotch.....

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Xander seems to know about his, but only during diaper changes. When we're changing his diaper, I can't keep his hands off it! But otherwise, he doesn't seem to grab at it... yet!

ETA: You don't think there might be something bothering him at all do you? Causing the area to be itchy or anything?

  16. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: my daughter has started exploring her vulva when she's naked, I think it's pretty normal!

  17. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: no, there was no rash or anything like that, and the way he was grabbing it wasn't in a way that was uncomfortable.

@Silva: yea I think it's normal, just funny!

  18. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: Poor guy! I can't imagine green smoothie back up. I need to try smoothie's for R. Maybe I can get veggies in that way. How do you do them?
@cheert16: Glad all is going good! He will get the hang of it. If he hates milk, not the worse thing, just means more cheese

  19. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: haha, okay, just thought I'd check! Xander will probably start doing it soon himself then!

  20. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Peter hasn't been too interested yet but I have heard from other toddler boy mamas that it is definitely coming! And that it will be an obsession once it happens. Oh my!

@Smurfette: Haha it wasn't pretty! I just throw half a banana, a handful of baby spinach leaves, and milk in the blender for one minute. Sometimes I add in other stuff like peanut butter, honey, or berries, but mostly its those three ingredients. He usually loves them! On Wednesday, not so much...

We had some possible first "mama" sounds today that might count as legit. He said it twice and I'm not totally sure if he was actually directing the sounds at me but I really really hope so!!

  21. Adira

@Adira: Thanks! Meeeee tooooooo! Haha I am desperate. If any of our neighbors hear me from outside our house during the day, they must think I am a total narcissist.
"Mama. Mama. Peter, say mama. Peter, I am MAMA."
That's what I sound like all day long!

@QueensBee: hahaha, I remember doing that with Xander all day long too when all he would say was "Dada"!!!! It's totally normal!!! I hope he starts saying it for you consistently soon!!

Lil B had his 15 month checkup today- and I brought up what I think could be a speech delay- my pedi was awesome- he said I should wait and watch for another month- and if e doesn't have any more words (besides mama) we would start get an evaluation. He is pretty confident during he appt and listen to him babble that he will all of a sudden start talking. Eased my worries a bit, glad the pedi is on the same page!!

@Mrs. High Heels: Umm...the crotch issue...yeah, we've just started being very fascinated. Diaper changes are getting a little tricky because little hands shoot straight down there and sometimes it's got a lot of yuck I don't want on their hands! I'm borderline creeped out by the whole thing.

  29. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Adira: Awesome, that's so exciting!!! How did they prepare the carrots? Did you have any luck with dinner tonight?

@Smurfette: He is, thanks! Back to his old goofy self!

@cheert16: Glad to hear the ped helped ease your worries today!

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: I'm not sure! They said it was a mixed veggie thing with carrots, green beans, and corn, but he just picked out all the carrots to eat. I have a mix that has similar stuff, but when I gave it to him tonight, he just threw the pieces on the floor. Ugh.

A funny side note about the crotch thing. LO was naked and ready for the bath tonight and he ran out into the family room and to the back door. I went to go get him and he was standing there peeing on the welcome mat. He was staring down at his penis in shock and then when he was done, he started grabbing it like, that came from this?! Hilarious little boy.
@Adira: Glad he is getting on the table food band wagon! ETA: often L will eat something for lunch with zeal and then throw the same thing on the floor later. Just keep offering.
    @QueensBee: Mama so cute.

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@travellingbee: OMG, hahaha! I'm so scared of the day Xander pees on things!! After bath, he always runs from the bathroom naked and I'm chasing him with a diaper, scared he's going to make a mess, haha!

  33. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@travellingbee: Hahaha, oh no.. our boys! What are we gonna do with them? This reminds me, yesterday Jaren POOED in the bathtub, I heard him grunting so I tried getting him out but I was too late and it was already on its way out... I grabbed him, and more poo fell on the floor, where I stepped on it!! So then I hobbled the rest of the way over to the toilet so I could put him over the potty. By then he was of course finished with his business. Yeesh.

@Mrs. Blue: I knew the curiosity was coming, I just didn't realize it was going to be so soon... I thought I had another 6 months at the earliest!

Hi Mamas! I'm way too MIA to keep up with this thread! But sounds like there's a lot of wonderful and hilarious things going on!

K has also been grabbing her crotch area anytime during diaper changes. It's already a challenge with this squirmy one, when we have poopy diapers, I feel like an octopus trying to pin down everything I can! She's SUCH a little toddler these days! I seriously can't believe how fast she is growing. I left her for the first time ever last weekend. 4 days away - she stayed at home with my ILs. They fed her SO MUCH - she gained at least a pound.

I'll try to read back as much as I can handle. Hope everyone is well!

@Smurfette: I want to do CIO but I need this nasty cold I have to go away first.

@QueensBee: We did sleep training at the end of Feb and it worked but I don't really even know what we did. Love Pete's new car!

@QueensBee: Did you go for his 15 month check? I'm going to have to try your smoothy recipe, sounds good. And yay for mama!! I hope he keeps saying it.

@cheert16: Yay for bottle weaning. I'm sure after a week or two he will be drinking more milk.

@Mrs. High Heels: He knows where his penis is but only grabs at it in the bath so far. I'm not looking forward to messy diaper changes.

@Adira: That is awesome that he ate carrots. He is getting there!

@cheert16: Sounds like a good pedi. Hopefully he has a word explosion soon. We are still only at 3 words here.

@travellingbee: That is so funny about him peeing!

@Mrs. High Heels: OMG, this is horrifying!!! I'm so sorry!!!

@shopaholic: I hear you on the diaper changes! Xander's always grabbing at his crotch or trying to scratch his butt and when it's poopy, I feel like I"m practically sitting on him to keep his hands away!!

@Smurfette: @ALV91711: HE ATE THEM AT HOME!!!!!!! I had those Gerber first finger food things that was just soggy carrots and he was all over them! Even stopped eating a cracker so he could eat some!!!! Progress!!!!

  38. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

Ahhh!!! He tried some watermelon!!!! We're finally getting somewhere with this finger food thing!!! Of course, he didn't seem to like it... weird baby.

Also, he's finally learning to say "Hi!" I love it!!

  39. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@travellingbee: Haha that story is hilarious!

@Mrs. High Heels: Haha, totally horrifying! I would have needed an enormous drink after that bath and bedtime! And probably a full shower too! Bound to happen at some point though. <<shudder>>

@Adira: Progress!! At least he is willing to give some new foods a try?

  40. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Yes!! I'll take any progress I can get at this point!!
