OMG THE POOP
E still hasn't found her diaper *fingers crossed*

Sigh, I have a steam cleaning guy coming in two hours to repair the mess of this morning.
To be fair, he was wearing shorts that are a little loose on him this morning, so they must have been easier to yank off than his normal ones. In the future, I am hoping that snug shorts will keep everything contained until I can change him.
@smurfette: I would love for Pete to be potty trained with his #2s, but since he barely speaks, I have no idea how do it! I know there are some methods used on young toddlers, but I think they involve leaving lots of bowls around your house, which I'm not ready to do! (see first paragraph of following article!)
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/19/nyregion/babys-latest-going-diaperless-at-home-or-even-in-the-park.html?_r=0
I am going to research other methods today...
@Adira: If all else fails, duct tape it is!

@QueensBee: we bought a potty around the time T turned one, and have kept it in our bathroom. Mostly she just plays with it, or sits on it while I got to the bathroom (all while narrating what I'm doing). Recently she has started walking to the potty either right before/ during/ or after she poops and sometimes pees. A few times now we've been able to get her there and get her diaper off fast enough for her to get on the potty in time. I have no idea what this will lead to, but it doesn't hurt to start. There is some great information on the science of parenting website- just google "early potty training science of parenting"
pear / 1718 posts
@Smurfette: I thought so too!
@Silva: Thanks so much for the tip! So awesome that she's already done a few pee pees on her potty! I will do the google search later today. I just ordered a potty seat and a step stool from amazon so we'll see how it goes. I also ordered a faucet extender because I've been wanting to teach him how to wash his hands independently. I can't wait for our purchases to arrive so I can get our bathroom all set up!

@QueensBee: Yuck!! Sorry you had to deal with this. I second @Adira: with the duct tape until he's potty trained.
@Silva: That is a good idea having a potty around so she gets used to it and what it is for. I think I may have to look into getting one in the near future.

@QueensBee: Oh no, not again!!! Doesn't hurt to introduce a small stand alone potty to him to see if he's interested. Hope there is no 3rd time for you!!

@QueensBee: Oh wow, that sucks. B is still in onesies so we haven't run into that issue yet.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts yesterday. The appointment yesterday was actually painless - no blood draws and over quick. Basically the professor said that it is very unlikely that the virus is causing the elevated liver markers. She wants to talk to the nationwide specialist about it today though and will then call me back. She's pretty sure that he will not have better news either though. So we will then also talk about when we have to come in to the clinic for further testing. She said it would probably only be for 1 night though. Basically they currently have no idea what could cause the elevated marker. They will also run another cealiac screening but he shows absolutely no signs of it otherwise so it is unlikely it is that (I'm a cealiac).
On a happier note: My little guy is starting to take steps! He walked unassisted from me to his daycare teacher today that was easily 7-8 steps!!! Yay!!! This momma is so happy when she doesn't have to lug her 28 lbs/ 34in toddler around all the time anymore (other happy note: I got new stats at the hospital).

@Pumuckl: Ugh, I'm sorry the doctors have no idea what's causing the elevated markers. That has to be scary to not really know what's going on and how bad or benign it might be. I hope the it turns up to be nothing too serious!
And YAY for walking!!! Go B!!!

@Pumuckl: I'm sorry, that sounds scary. Hugs!
@Smurfette: Sorry about R biting. My LO bites me and has bit DH when she really wants to nurse. We say "No Bite" and do an immediate timeout. I don't think it's really working. I'm sure she'll be biting at daycare soon. Ugh.
We had what I expect to be our last nursing session last night. DH took a picture and sat with me while I nursed. I expected to be somewhat emotional but I was surprised DH was. It's been quite a journey. LO is not going to be pleased with me tonight. I think I'm going to need a bite-proof suit.
On the positive side, LO is really into playing with her hands. Itsy Bitsy Spider and Wheels on the Bus are new favorites. She also has a new board book with baby signs. She can say most of the words already but she's really getting a kick out of signing.

@Corduroy: Awww, that's sweet your husband sat with you during your last nursing session and was emotional about it! You really did an amazing job nursing this long!!! Congrats!! And so cute about itsy bitsy spider! I haven't even tried doing stuff like that with Xander!
pear / 1718 posts
@Pumuckl: More hugs to you for dealing with this scary situation. I hope you are able to find some answers soon. He acts totally healthy and happy, and appears fine except for these elevated liver markers, right? So odd.
Awesome news about the walking though! He'll be racing around before you know it!
@Corduroy: So sweet that your husband was emotional over the last nursing session too! It's so hard to believe that they're not little babies anymore. I hope you are able to keep you boobs bite-free tonight!
I recently read this quote on one of my favorite blogs and it describes exactly how I feel these days:
"Sometimes I tell Alex that when you raise a child, it's like raising a hundred different children—a needy newborn, a chubby baby, a chatty toddler, an independent child...they feel like separate people, and you want to freeze certain stages before they move on to the next. Sometimes I look back at photos and miss those past stages. I never really experienced nostalgia before having children and now it's such a daily pang!"
Would you mind telling me the name of the board book of signs that LO has? I've been working on signs with Pete now that I'm home for the summer but it's slow going. Perhaps a little book could help us!
pomelo / 5258 posts
@QueensBee: Thanks for sharing that quote. I can really relate.
The book is "My First Baby Signs". http://www.amazon.com/My-First-Baby-Signs-Harperfestival/dp/006009074X I got it at a second hand store so I didn't check out any alternatives before I bought it. It's LO's current favorite though.

@Pumuckl: So scary, Will keep yall in my thoughts and prayers. Yay for steps!! They are so cute walking, aren't they?

@Corduroy: Sorry are dealing with biting too. I bought a couple books of amazon so we can work with her on it at home. That is so sweet about your DH and your last nursing session. Even though I weaned R when I wanted too, I still got tears the last full session we had. R loves itsy bitsy spider too.
@QueensBee: love that quote!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@QueensBee: Love that. Very true. I have constant nostalgia too. Many nights, DH and I sit in bed and look at old pictures and videos of our little bubs when he was little.
@Pumuckl: Sorry to hear about the liver marker. I hope you get answers soon. Yay for walking. I don't know how you do it, carrying him around!
So L has been getting pickier and pickier with food. For lunch yesterday, all he would eat was strawberries and cherry tomatoes. And last night, he wouldn't eat any vegetables. Threw them all on the floor for the dog. So frustrating. Luckily, he has rediscovered a love for pouches so I've been getting some veggies in that way. He drinks them like a smoothie with his meal. However, when I've tried to make smoothies, he isn't interested...
I'm not terribly worried because he eats plenty and I think over the course of a week, he gets a variety of foods, but his pickiness is becoming frustrating. I did take him to the Dr. this week because of a spider bite, and he's gained a half pound in 2 weeks so that seems positive. He is now a little over 25 lbs.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: R won't eat veggies for us besides sweet potatoes. And then only maybe 3 times a week. Pouches she will eat though. She is getting more picky at home. Frustrating.
But she will eat veggies at day care. I saw on her sheet yesterday she ate carrots for a snack. I asked the teacher and they were blanched baby carrots. She showed me the bag and all the kids, including R, were whining begging her for some. WTF?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: Ha ha. Peer influence. Hopefully when he goes to day care in the fall, he will eat veggies. Although they don't serve food. We have to send our own.

@travellingbee: I will make some blanched carrots, but you bet I will be back posting that she won't eat them!

@QueensBee: OMG, the poop stories!!! That's why I need to follow this thread better. I reeeeeaally hope this is the last of your poo stories. One of my friends that has twins was always posting FB statuses about "Poo Picasso" striking again because her son would get it and "paint" the walls during nap time!!! EEEEEKKK!!
@Pumuckl: So scary! I hope they figure out soon what the deal is.

@Mrs. Blue: my friend's daughter painted the walls, all over the crib, herself, it was everywhere.

Thank you all!
@QueensBee: right, he is a perfectly normal 15m old. Gaining weight, growing, reaching milestones etc.
@travellingbee: sometimes I don't know how I do it either... But I guess my muscle strength just grows with his weight gain.
So the update is that next Tuesday we have to come in as in-patients. I can thankfully stay with him. Wednesday morning they'll do the big blood draw before he gets any food. On Tuesday they'll do the u/s. We'll see what else they want to do...
Hopefully they'll be able to figure out what is going on.
On the food issues:
Luckily so far B is not picky. The only thing he definitely doesn't like is zucchini.
pear / 1718 posts
@Corduroy: Thanks! I just ordered all the potty supplies off amazon yesterday so I have the book in my cart for my next purchase. It looks so cute!
@travellingbee: Pete had a slight stomach bug last week and it took a while for him to want veggies again. Today is the first day he has his full appetite back. Usually, we sneak our vegetables in through smoothies and muffins but I haven't made any since his little bug. I hope it is just a phase for L. It must be so frustrating to cook a whole meal and have him toss half of it to the dogs!
Are you home with him now that it's summer?
@Mrs. Blue: @Smurfette: Oh man. Ready to vom! At least he hasn't painted the walls yet!
I am proud to report that today was free of any poop incidents.
@Pumuckl: As terrible as spending the night at the hospital with LO sounds, it will probably feel good to run all the tests and then *hopefully* get some answers. This issue has been hovering over your family for months and you've been such a champ staying calm. I really hope they can sort it out next week!
I had a moment this afternoon when P seemed like such a big boy. He walked in the kitchen and give me the sign for milk (I was so excited he finally knows a sign!). Then, he climbed into his high chair all on his own. I poured milk into a little glass cup and he drank it without spilling any of it.
At the end of the sequence, I was just floored that he was so independent!
Of course, when I refilled the glass, he spilled the next one all over himself. And he still needed help getting out of his high chair. But still, it's all happening so fast!
ETA: I also wanted to mention that P took a four hour nap today! That has never happened in his entire existence! (Maybe in the womb??) He did wake up early today, 4am, so he was exhausted by his 10am nap. Even though he woke up at 2pm, he still went right to bed at 7:30pm. I couldn't believe it. I had enough time to clean the entire house and it felt so amazing.

Isaac has figured out how to pull out the plug covers and put them back in. That is not very effective child proofing. He usually only goes after one outlet but it is still not good. Anyone else with this problem?
@Pumuckl: That is so exciting that he has started to take steps! He will be walking in no time.
@Corduroy: Congrats on nursing for so long! I really hope tonight went well.
@QueensBee: That is a great quote. It is so true too.
@Smurfette: Do you remember how long it was for R to get all 4 molars? It has been about 3 weeks and we have one, this is going to be a long teething journey at this rate.
@Pumuckl: I hope that they can find some answers for you.
@QueensBee: That is the best nap ever!! Wow, I'm impressed. I'm glad he went to bed good still too.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I was hoping you'd say less, but I kind of figured it would be a long time since one took over two weeks to completely come in.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: that is when she first started showing teething signs and then for the too to fully come down.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@ALV91711: it is taking forever with molars over here too. we only have to partially cut through and this is been going on for a month.
I noticed an interesting new thing lately. L is able to point to whatever hurts now. So if he falls on his arm he will stand up and pointed at his arm and cry. Or when his rocking elephant ran over his toe he came over to me and sat down and held his foot up for me crying. Anyone else seeing that too? It's a handy new development!

@queensbee, 4 hours?! Insane!
@travellingbee, awww that's adorable!
I dragged E outside to take photos for her 15 month birthday, which is today She is such a ham.

@travellingbee: That is awesome that he does that, takes the guessing out of things.
Even though we don't have more words I find communication is getting better/easier. Pointing and asking dat? and shaking his head no when he doesn't want something. Also, when he is hungry he goes to the fridge or pantry and points.
@blackbird: Happy 15 months!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Ugh, I think all kids go through that picky stage (and Xander is starting too). It's just so frustrating because you don't want to give in to them and just feed them whatever they want, but you also want to make sure they are getting enough! Ugh!
@Pumuckl: Wow, this week is going to be so rough for you guys! But hopefully B takes it all well and you figure out what's going on and it's nothing too serious! Fingers crossed for you!
@QueensBee: Umm... that 4 hour nap sounds AMAZING. I'm jealous! And what a big independent boy!! Xander can't get into his high chair himself yet, but he does walk into the kitchen and point at the pantry and go "cra!" all the time (which means crackers)!
@ALV91711: We haven't had that plug problem yet, but maybe you need to get those outlet cover replacements that just have the things that snap back over the outlet and you have to push it to the side to plug things into it?
Yes! Shaking the head "no" is sooooo helpful! Though it can be also really frustrating if you've exhausted all the options and they STILL seem to want something but shake no at everything!
@travellingbee: Xander can point, but not sure he can point to specific parts that hurt! The next time he falls over or something, I'll quiz him!
As for us, my extremely texture averse baby who will only eat baby food REFUSED it all tonight for dinner! He ended up eating sausage pieces, carrot pieces, and veggie sticks for dinner plus a pouch! Who is this kid????

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
R took a tiny, maybe 20 min nap Sat morning in the car and then decided that was all she needed for the day. She was fine all day cause we had people over and she was having a blast playing. ( I am sure you all saw the HB love on my IG). But she was up every 30-60 mins that night. She was so overtired and wanted to sleep, but couldn't. Luckily DH took it for the team and went and sleep in her room and couch, so I could rest. Luckily she (and DH) took a 3 hour nap yesterday but then she was so crabby all afternoon. Early bedtime but she slept 11 hours straight!
Is everyone else's LO eating a ton these days? I am seriously amazed at how much she eats.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@Adira: Wow, that's what I call progress. Yay that all that patience is finally paying of!
@QueensBee: What a nap! You inspire me that once this whole hospital ordeal is behind us I think I'll try the open cup.
B's walking is getting better so fast. It's just amazing how quickly they pick something up and then are just doing it like they never had any trouble in the first place.
He's also slowly turning into a cuddler! He now comes over and just flings his arms around us and holds on really tight! Melts my heart every time! And once he's had enough he'll pat us and thus let us know he is ready to rumble again
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: @Pumuckl: I hope he keeps it up too, except that I have noooooo idea what to feed him if he's just going to eat finger foods! I only have sausage and carrots and carbs at the moment! Ahhh!!!
@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, sorry to hear about your rough night! We had one of those too Friday night. I think because of all the stimulation during the day AND the fact that we were staying someplace strange. Xander went to bed just fine at 7:00 p.m., but then was up from 1:30 to 4:30! And then up for the day at 6:00!! I was DYING!
@Pumuckl: YAY for cuddles!!!! Xander very rarely will do something like that, but sometimes he'll come over and plant a kiss on my leg before moving on, haha. More likely though, if I'm on the ground with him, he'll come over and push me over, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Sorry you had a rough night too. DH said that he would rock her and she would just point to her crib, like she wanted to sleep but couldn't. Even Motrin didn't help her.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Ugh, that's so hard. We tried Motrin too with Xander and it didn't help. I have no idea what was up with him. I'm guessing it was just the new surroundings, because he slept mostly fine the next night. Glad R also slept fine the next night!
pear / 1718 posts
@blackbird: Happy 15 months! How did the pictures turn out? Sounds like she loves having little photo sessions!
@Adira: Wow, your patience is totally paying off! Finger foods for Xander! Great news!
@Smurfette: So nice that DH took over during such a rough night so you could sleep! I hope she gets back on schedule today. We also had some sleep issues this weekend. Naps were missed and there was a lot of excitement with holiday visitors, so bedtime involved an hour and half of screaming. But once he was asleep, he stayed asleep so I can't complain too much.
Any updates on the biting?
@Pumuckl: Isn't it crazy how quickly they can transform from non-walkers into runners?! So sweet that he's turning into a cuddler! Pete is a bit of a cuddler and I love it so so much. And yes, definitely give the open cup a try! Start with a little water and once he has the hang of that, you try it with milk. I think the key is too only put a little in at a time. And it's hilarious to see the little milk mustache!
We just came back from the 15 month check up. Pete did pretty great, he didn't even cry during his two shots! He is 24 lbs 11 oz., 30 3/4" tall. Regarding speech, the doctor said she looks for three words by the 15 month appointment and since he can say, "uh oh," "woof," and "Os" (for Cheerios), she isn't concerned about his speech right now. She just wants me to continue labeling everything, reading lots of books, singing songs, and we'll keep an eye on it for the 18 month appointment.
I can hear him waking from his nap now, after only an hour. I think the 4 hour nap was just a fluke that one time!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: Glad to hear everything went well at your appointment! He definitely weighs more than Xander!! And that's interesting that they only look for about 3 words at this age. That's encouraging!
