@travellingbee: Yes, he's wheezing and contracting pretty bad. Whenever he's not on oxygen, his oxygen levels get fairly low (80s when they should be 97+), so despite all his efforts, he's not getting enough oxygen.
I actually had Hubs come take over for me. The room only has a bed for one person and I was going to sleep there, but after Xander got woken up at midnight and would not fall asleep, I felt like I was going to have a breakdown. So I called Hubs to come stay with him so I could go home to sleep. Xander ended up falling asleep at 2:00 a.m., 15 minutes before Hubs got there, but I went home anyway. I'm on my way back as soon as I pack some things for myself and Xander.

@travellingbee: No. One doctor thought he might have it, but he ended up having pneumonia, and no one has mentioned it to us since then. I had asthma as a kid, so he might have it, but I was never THIS sick!

@Adira: It really sounds like that virus going around! Keep us updated! Poor Xander (and Mama!)

@Adira: Sorry to hear Xander is in the hospital. That's maddening that they would wake him up. I think you're really smart for calling in reinforcements. Take care of yourself while you're taking care of Xander. You're the only one that can care for LO2.

@Adira: poor guy! Glad that you went home and got some sleep!

@travellingbee: Definitely could be that virus! He's being tested for it.
@Corduroy: @Smurfette: Yeah, I'm glad I went home to sleep. I guess Xander kept waking through the night. I'd have gotten no sleep here, but Hubs was able to.

@Adira: I am so sorry to hear that Xander is so sick. Poor baby and mama. You were smart to get some rest in your own bed. I hope he makes a quick recovery over the next few days. Thanks for keeping us updated, I'll be thinking of you!

@keepcalmcarrie: I'm sure the move will be bittersweet. Sounds like a great opportunity for DH! Hope it all goes smoothly.
@ALV91711: I love hearing stories of Isaac and his friends! He is so social and affectionate!
@travellingbee: Awwe, I'm sure they know that all the toddlers are still learning how to share and that there aren't any real bullies yet. But I can understand how you feel. For what it's worth, my all time favorite student was also the one that drove me the most crazy! I hope the redirection works and he starts to feel settled in his new school soon.

Quick update: Xander seems to be doing better and the doctors seem happy with his progress. They've reduced his medicine dosage and will hopefully let him have something to drink in a few hours. I'm starting to think we might be able to go home tomorrow!

He's been given permission to eat food, but he hasn't had any yet because he fell asleep. hopefully he sleeps through the night and then can have breakfast.

@ALV91711: @autumnlove: @Smurfette: Thanks ladies! I really think they will probably let us take him home today, but I don't know for sure. I went home again to sleep, so I'm about to head back there! Hopefully this time I make it for rounds.

@Adira: Oh no How is he doing? Do they know yet if it's the enterovirus or something else?
I know it stinks to stay at the hospital, but at least he has access to all the meds and other help he needs. J was in the NICU for 2 nights, 3 days, which is a really short stay but I was SO disappointed when they said he needed to stay another night. I feel for you!

We're officially in the pediatric ward!!! No more PICU! And Xander is off oxygen and still doing well. He's still getting prednisone (a steriod) and albuterol (breathing meds) but he's almost down to his normal at home dosages, so MAYBE we can go home tomorrow! Fingers crossed!

@Adira: Glad to hear he's getting better.
Without really thinking about it we bought a potty today. LO loves it and has used it twice. I think she would sit on it all day if we let her. She is so proud of herself. I don't really know where to go from here. We had no strategy and we haven't talked to daycare.

@Corduroy: Wow! That's awesome about the potty!!! We haven't even thought about getting one yet!

@Adira: Glad he was moved out of the PICU. I really hope you get to go home tomorrow.
@Corduroy: That is awesome that she used the potty 2 time!! We have a potty and sometimes he sits on it before bath time. While he sits on it he says pee pee over and over. It seems like he mostly thinks it is a toy though.
pomelo / 5258 posts
@ALV91711: She just pleaded with me for "more pee please" after successfully peeing. Um - it doesn't work that way.

@Corduroy: That is cute! I hope she will continue to use the potty. My MIL says she had DH potty trained at 18 months and I really didn't believe her, but maybe they can be ready at this age.

Looks like we're staying here at least one more night, but Xander has been in a good mood and has been able to be unplugged from everything so he can roam around the room at least!

@Smurfette: They know it's not the flu or RSV, but not anything else specific. It might be some version on the entero virus, but not necessarily that one that has been on the news. It's definitely some respiratory virus though. He's finally taking a nap without oxygen though, so that's a good sign!

@Adira: I'm glad he is in a good mood. Sorry you have to stay another night though. Hopefully he is fully better by the time you get to take him home.

We're home!!!! Xander did so well during his nap that they released us!!!!

@travellingbee: @Smurfette: @ALV91711: @Corduroy: @blackbird: Thank you so much ladies!!! We're so happy to have him home and he was sooooooooooo excited to leave the hospital! Even though he was tired because it was past his bedtime, he just started chatting up a storm once we got to the car and he realized we were actually going home! He babbled the entire way home and was so happy to go to bed in his own crib!
We're still not allowed to bring him back to daycare yet and we have to give him his breathing treatment every four hours, including overnight. Hubs is staying home with him today while I work and I'll be staying home with him tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a follow-up with his pediatrician tomorrow so see about him returning to daycare or not for Thursday and Friday.
