@Adira: I was singing to her, clapped my hands, a couple times she started to nod off and I said her name really loud, startling her, I felt bad but in the long run it was better. Once we got off the highway, anytime we were at a light I turned around and made funny faces at her and she loved it. We had a great night together, shorter cause I wanted her in bed, but SO much better then Mon night.

@Pumuckl: I feel bad, giving her Motrin every night but I know they are bothering her.....>She napped an hour and 40 mins, so that helped some.

@Smurfette: Sounds like a lot of work, but I'm glad you were successful!! Hopefully today goes as well too!

@Smurfette: Luckly for us, he can usually sleep even though he is in moderate pain so I don't have to drug him up too often. And it really sounds like a lot of hard work as @Adira said but glad it paid off!!!

@pumuckl, oh yes! It was just something that bothered her last week...she's been fine since. *scratches head* Babies are weird

@smurfette, Motrin > sleep deprivation in my book

@blackbird: yeah for her feeling better! And I hear you, they just do the weirdest most random things. Sometimes it's for the cuteness though: We always have a pacifier in the car and keep it in the back pocket of the passenger seat. The rule with this paci is that it stays in the car. One of these days we arrived at daycare and I started to get B out of his seat and there he was handing me his paci/trying to put it in the pocket himself and giving me the widest grin. Ahhh, it melted my heart.

@Adira: he hates shoes! That said, the soft ones we had were too small and the hard soled ones are going to take some getting used to... We've been trying to just put them on for 5-10 minutes a day but he mostly just wants to take them off...haha. Oh well, eventually we will get it, right?
@Smurfette: we just went back to two naps after a few weeks where he refused to take the second one (I think I remember you posted something about that)...

@Smurfette: Thankfully, L is doing OK the last few nights with teething. He goes to bed by 8ish and we wake him at 7. Glad to hear she did better and I think the motrin is definitely worth it. Maybe switch it up a little and do some tylenol some nights instead...? Maybe you have already... I can't keep up on this thread!

We only do hard soled shoes now because he is walking outside a lot. But he only wears them outside and I think that is why he likes them now. He associates them with outside. When I say, "Get your shoes," he gets all excited. That boy LOVES going outside. He's sleep out there if I let him!

We are going to start back in daycare in the fall (because of budget, we always knew we'd end up sending him back to DC- but he'll be going to a different one). Yesterday I had to tell my nanny and she was very sad. I feel terrible but we are trying to find her a new position. It would be super easy except that her situation is unique. She needs to be able to bring her own 1 year old with her. So that limits her a bit. I really hope that I can find the right family for her!

@travellingbee: I guess I just thought Tylenol was best when she has a fever, no? I just hate giving her something, regardless of the kind, every night, but like Blackbird said I would rather her, and I, sleep.
I was going to wait and just get hard soled in the next size up but I went ahead and ordered them since she LOVES outside as well. Plus they go out twice a day at day care and everyone else wears hard soled. She has one pair of sandals and walks in them fine now.
Last night I asked her if she wanted to go outside and she got this huge smile, walked over to the french doors and was "jumping" (ie. bending her knees over and over) cause she was impatient waiting on me to find the key. It was adorable!
That would be hard to tell the nanny but at least you are giving her plenty of notice. And hopefully this day care will be better, sickness wise.
@Baby Boy Mom: She gets one nap cause that is what her room at day care does. We are doing two on the weekends if she needs it.

    @Smurfette: oh ok gotcha
Also I was going to suggest the hylands teething gel...we've been having a couple wake ups a night from the teething and that seems to be the thing that has been helping the most.

  12. travellingbee

@Smurfette: Tylenol is for fever and pain too. Like you can take tylenol for a headache. Ibuprofen is also for fever and pain but it is an anti-inflamatory as well. I know, I hate having to give him anything but if it is necessary, you gotta do it!

  13. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Smurfette: our pedi actually suggested ibuprofen for teething cause of the positive effects on swelling.

@travellingbee: love your description of how L likes to play outside! Bummer about the nanny and I hope you find a good match. And fingers crossed L doesn't get sick as often this time.

I can't help you all with shoes...

@Adira: Omg Look at him go!!

@Silva: I remember that feeling during the last regression. It felt harder than newborn sleep. Good luck, that job sounds great.

@Smurfette: That sounds like a much better night.

Ugh, this morning was ROUGH. I had to wake up Xander to nurse before I went to work and as soon as I woke him, he started WAILING! It took a good 15 minutes to calm him down enough to nurse. And then when we were done, he just wanted to play. When I put him back into his crib because I had to go to work, he started crying again! Ugh, I felt so bad! I wonder if I should stop nursing altogether...?

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Well this is just one morning so I would give it more time before you decide that. He might just have wanted to sleep and not eat yet. He is a toddler now, and is more likely to show you his option.

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I'm hoping tomorrow will go better! I at least don't have to get to work as early, so I can let him sleep an extra 30 minutes before I wake him. Usually he starts stirring and when I hear him, I run to nurse him and that usually works out. But this morning he was showing NO signs of waking at all, so I just had to go wake him.

So I was talking to R's teacher this morning, she signs More all the time at school. Not at home. She eats with a spoon (messy) but tries. At home, she holds it and eats with her hands. She said that R is super smart, tries to repeat words all the time. So maybe DH and I weren't losing it when we said I love you and we thought that she said it back to us. And I think she said diaper the other night. The teacher said if she gives R three different cups and tells her to stack them big to small, she does it. She will stack the rings for us at home but apparently we need to be doing more stuff like that at home.
At least I know the super expensive education based day care is paying off!!

As a side note, having a stomach bug and having to work and then take care of a toddler is super fun. I left work an hour early yesterday cause I didn't want to get stuck in traffic. But luckily R was fine staying up and was an angel for me last night. She went to sleep without crying by 7 and slept till 530!

  19. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Adira: Have you tried not waking him totally kind of like a dream feed? I'm lucky enough that I can let B sleep until he gets up on his own (I don't have to be at work till 9am) and my commute daycare to work is only 10-15min.

@Smurfette: Oh caring for LO if you're sick yourself is THE hardest. I had noro virus a couple of weeks ago and I simply could not function. I called my DH and while sobbing told him he had to come home (he's a 3.5h trip away during the week). Hugs and feel better soon! But glad R was being such a sweetheart!

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Pumuckl: That's always my goal, haha, but Xander's a light sleeper and so he wakes up whenever I try to pick him up from the crib (and I do it as gently as possible - putting my arms next to him and essentially just rolling him into them so he's still laying down and everything)!

@Smurfette: Umm... are you sure R is just barely one? She's making Xander look stupid. He still only says Dada and Mama and won't try to repeat what we say to him. And I'm not sure about stacking - we have those ring stacks, but Xander just uses them to throw down the stairs. I'm not sure I could get him to sit still long enough to try to stack them!

Also - why are you going to work with a stomach bug??? Bring R to daycare and then go home and rest!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: well this is all news to me. Maybe he is at day care and you just don't know it!!! Mostly she picks up stuff walks around with it and tries to eat it. Last night we were outside and she was trying to eat bubbles. Haha! I worked with her a couple months ago trying to get her to stack the rings.
Well I was never throwing up, just the other end. And it only got bad yesterday afternoon. It started waves of nauseous Monday night. I actually took a pregnancy test just to be sure, even though I still have my IUD. Luckily it was Although slightly disappointed, but we aren't ready for #2 yet. I was able to eat a plain bagel mini this morning and so far ok......fingers crossed I am on the mend. My parents are taking R for a sleepover so I need to be better Sat for date night!!
I am an accountant. Month End close, and quarter close, I really can't miss work!

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Smurfette: Glad to hear, you're doing better and you were able to eat something!

@Adira: Haha, I totally know where you're coming from with the dream feed, whenever I tried feeding B while still asleep he'd wake up and be disoriented... But the sight of my boob usually calms him down really fast

Oh and B stacks those rings. I totally didn't know he could do that until I saw him do it at a friend’s house. He is also always repeating/imitating sounds and sometimes he actually says things... (Like thank you)

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I don't actually know much of what Xander does at daycare. Although they said yesterday he was practicing walking a bunch and he did that at home too. He still falls quite a bit though!

Ugh, being sick sucks! Hopefully the worst is over, especially since you can't afford to miss work!!

  24. Smurfette

@Adira: R still falls occasionally! Did you ever order him some shoes?

  25. Adira

@Smurfette: Umm... no... because I'm the worst. Are they still on sale?

  26. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I don't know....just a warning, their shipping can take like two weeks. I would get him in shoes sooner then later so he gets use to them.

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Good idea. I just keep forgetting to measure his feet when I'm home, but I'll try to remember to do it tonight (or this weekend..)!

  28. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@Smurfette: What size is R in for shoes? I ordered some size 4 SKR and they are still HUGE on T. She's started taking one or two steps and the snow is melting, so I'm thinking I might have to order her some in a smaller size! We have some robeeze that fit, but I let her wear them around a little outside yesterday and they definitely got really wet.

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Silva: She measure 3.5 at Stride Ride but still fits in a 3 from SKR and Target. The 3.5's have more room for growth but she can still walk in a 3 just fine. I ordered some hard soled 3's during the SKR sale and they should finally get here tonight.
R wore a smaller SKR sneaker while playing outside over the weekend. They got wet but didn't soak through to her socks. They just took like a day to dry.

  30. Silva

@Smurfette: so 6-9 months in the smaller? I think the other pair I got was 9-12 and they are too big

  31. Smurfette

@Silva: Yep! We have a pair in 9-12 and they are huge on R still!

I can't keep up on my phone, but just wanted to pop in and say hi! I'm at Dunkin doing my weekly interwebs catch-up and eating carbs.

@Smurfette: I totally feel you on having stomach issues while having to take care of a baby- it's horrible! I have been popping zofran like candy and doing alright for the most part, though. I hope whatever you have clears up soon!

I'm interested in all this shoe talk! L rotates between Robeez and a few different soft-soled ones but I think I'll get her some rubber soled ones soon. She has super cute silver mary janes for Easter that I got at Target! Although the baby shoe aisle at our Target is complete chaos so I don't spend much time there. Maybe I'll do some googling and see what's out there!

@tororojo: I was actually think how the hell do SAHM do this all day when they are pregnant with morning sickness? I can't even imagine. Although it made me so thankful I didn't have any with R cause I can't imagine working too.

  34. tororojo

@Smurfette: I have been praying for long baby naps and taking some myself. And using tv to entertain her at times so I can just lay there. Last Fri. I actually made DH come home from work early, I felt baaaaad but hopefully that won't happen again!

  35. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@tororojo: I put Rio on for R when we got home yesterday. She has no interest in it at all. Looked up like twice but wanted me to right next to her playing, in between running to the bathroom.

  36. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, L won't watch tv for very long, but the first 5-10 minutes usually hold her attention, and then she'll go back to it at times if I leave it on. Which I don't do very often because it makes me feel like a bad parent! She reeeally likes Sesame Street, though- it holds her attention for longer than anything else. Something about the puppets, maybe!

I am so far behind on this page- but a couple questions to you guys...

LO's first molar came in the other day and I think he is working on his second one... anyone else's kid have loose bowel movements when they are teething? It didn happen with his other teeth- so I am wondering if its a teething thing- or if I should call the Dr (its been 3 days- he is eating and acting fine)

Also- how did you all transition from the bottle to WM? I am sooooo nervous for this.... Is there a straw cup you would recommend- LO cant quiet figure out how to use the straw cup!

  38. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@cheert16: The molars are a b**ch aren't they? R has been pooping more, always done when teething, but her's are still just solid. If he is acting fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

We started introducing WCM at 11 months with meals with the Zoli cup or B Box (BBox leaked less for us). She dropped her afternoon bottle around 11.5 months. Wanted nothing to do with them, so we went with it. She would still drink her AM one and most of the time at least some of her PM. When she dropped the afternoon, I just made sure to send a snack to day care instead. Then 3 days after her bday, she woke up and I just gave her breakfast instead of a bottle. She went to day care and got a mid morning snack. Then that night she ate dinner like normal. Offered her more milk after bath and just went to bed like normal. We got super lucky.

    nectarine / 2631 posts

@Smurfette: They are so bad... I am a walking Zombie because he is up all night long....Plus I had this crazy nightmare about him on Monday night- so even when he is asleep I am having anxiety about falling asleep because I don't want anymore nightmares!

Uh-oh! I am behind the game then! I will try WM tomorrow (after I go to the store and get some.... we only have skim in the house!) I have a cup at home kinda like the bbox- so we will try that one... but I will order one through amazon now! He has trouble with strawcups- so hopefully it works! He gets 4 bottles now - so I am thinking if we drop the "car bottles" - one the way to daycare and the way home from daycare- that will cut a couple. Then we just need to work on the "taking a nap" bottle and the "going to bed bottle" - both of which I think are going to suck! Glad that R was so easy! Send some of her chillness our way!

@cheert16: We have had a couple rough nights as well. But I am giving her medicine every night cause I know she is in pain. Hopefully they pop up soon. The other bottom one is sooooo close. Her tops are swollen but not white yet. The bottom teeth always take longer it seems.
I don't think you are behind the game. I am cheap I wanted to be done with formula. It helped that she dropped the afternoon herself. I will say that I semi miss bottles cause I miss the snuggles. She never wants to sit and snuggle anymore.
Even at night now, she will stay on my shoulder for like a minute while I sing and then she lays across my legs and rest her head on the arm of the glider.
