Oh and by the way, for anyone going in for a NT scan I have some advice. I drank less water than they told me too and even peed some of it out before the scan since I couldn't hold it and the technician had me completely evacuate since my bladder was too full! I know I am a small person so that might have had something to do with it, but they were adamant about me drinking a lot of water and having a full bladder but I could have gotten away with like a dixie cup full in there. If I were to do it all over again, I would have saved myself the discomfort and waited until I checked in at the Dr. to start drinking the water!

@msmay: Thanks for the encouragement! That was my first thought and if we don't get a call today you better believe we'll be calling every day until ANY Dr. calls us with the results, but the tech was makign it seem like if the Dr. can't call us today then we are out of luck until our next appointment. I'm sure it's possible for us to find out beforehand, but I just don't know how long it will take to finally hear back.

@Modern Daisy: they made me do this for my ultrasound last week as well. 36 oz in one hour! I thought I was going to explode! Then I had to void more than half of it. Absolutely ridiculous...
And definitely keep calling! You should not have to put up with their shenanigans. Maybe they'll hurry up so that you'll stop calling Good luck!

@msmay: Ugh, that's so annoying why do they do that? The hospital is a 20 minute walk from the subway and I seriously thought I was going to pee myself the entire time. And like I said, I drank less than they asked me to and even after the time frame they told me and it was still too much!
And yes that is what we are doing. DH just asked me for the #'s and he's going to start calling now. We're really hoping that if we're annoying they'll break down and just give us the results.

@lawbee11: You are a horrible enabler *lol*. I found an elective ultrasound place and made an appointment for this Saturday to get a gender screening done #^_^#. $50 for a quick peek and 3 photos; $79 for a 15 minute scan along with a cd with 10 images and 3 videos. I asked my husband which he preferred and he immediately wanted the $79 one (he's big on pictures). So, I'll let you girls know what they uncover!
@Modern Daisy: @msmay: 36 oz here too! at least an hour before the appointment. dittos in feeling impending explosion; I almost couldn't enjoy the U/S because I was so uncomfortable. My OB was adamant about how much to drink and when. A coworker told me she was allowed to drink her liquids while in the waiting room. Super unfair!
After our NT scan my dr came in and told me 'everything looked good' and nothing else. Didn't hear anything from them since; I'm curious now to see if they'll give me more in-depth information at our appointment next week. Do they need the bloodwork along with the ultrasound to give you chances of genetic issues?
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Modern Daisy: Sorry you didn't get the results today, but at least the scan went went! Was the doctor just supposed to interpret the u/s results, or were you supposed to get blood work results as well? We met with the doctor immediately after the NT scan, and he basically just said all of your measurements are within the normal range, gave us the NT measurement, and said everything looked good (meeting lasted less than 10 minutes).
@StrawberryBee: Yay! That's so exciting!! We have ours next Saturday. I called the place and they said 16w was the earliest they could see me, so I made the appointment for when I am 16w1d
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@StrawberryBee: Yes that's exactly what we're waiting on. I had the bloodwork done last week on purpose so the results would be ready today. I've been checking online and they still haven't posted the results for those labs so I can't even go in myself and look at them, I have to wait.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@lawbee11: My place said the earliest they'll do is 15 weeks; I'll be 16 and 1 day this Saturday. I was actually trying to push it out to be after my dr's appointment on Wednesday, but they didn't have anything available that day, and next weekend we're going to be out of town.
@Modern Daisy: I'm sorry :(. I hope they get back to you soon.

@.twist.: I'm EST in Ontario. We might be at the same time haha! Counting down the days!

@redsmarties: giiiiiiiirl, we are finding out at practically the exact.same.time!
@Modern Daisy: I so hope they get back to you ASAP! the water for me is the WORST. I hate it more than almost anything. I totally do not drink nearly as much water as they *require* and I still end up having to pee some out. So frustrating.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@.twist.: You know what's funny is I was thinking on my extremely uncomfortable walk to the hospital that having to pee that bad and hold it while moving around then getting an ultrasound might be worse than labor! Of course I"m sure I'm wrong though
So DH called and the nurse checked my chart and said the bloodwork isn't even ready yet. She did confirm that my Dr. will be in tomorrow and next week though adn we can call once we see it posted online to review with him. We bit the bullet and decided to go ahead with our announcements anyway. We just can't wait any longer, this is getting ridiculous. And it's comforting knowing that all my other bloodwork has been good and the NT measurements today were all normal.

@Modern Daisy: It is SO bad. Honestly, the first ultra sound I had I drank the recommended amount and I was almost in tears at their office, that CANNOT be healthy even. The U/S tech even said they never ever want you that uncomfortable.

So how many appointments and ultrasounds has everyone had? I've just had one of each (same appointment).
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@JamieLee: I've had two midwife appointments, and one ultrasound (plus a quick dr's appointment to draw blood at the very beginning).

@Alivoo01: Can't wait to hear about your appointment!
@JamieLee: I have had 2 ultra sound appointments and 2 prenatal appointments and 1 blood work appointment (does blood work count?).
clementine / 930 posts
@.twist.: Sure blood work counts!
Sometimes I feel like my doctor's office skimps on the visits. I wasn't to go in for my first appointment (not even any blood work) until I was almost 10 weeks, then at my next appointment I'll be almost 16, with nothing inbetween. They did a visit with the nurse, doctor, ultrasound, and blood work at the first appointment, so maybe they just try to cram it all in...I just feel like 6 weeks between the first and second appointment is a lot. And they just believed me in the beginning when I said I was pregnant, no blood work or anything...weird how different things are at different places.
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: @lawbee11: @redsmarties: @.twist.: So jealous you guys are going to be finding out the gender soon! I'm thinking I'll have to wait until late March. I don't think we have any elective ultrasound places around here either. I live in a somewhat rural area with less than 150,000 people in our "micropolitan" area, so we don't have cool stuff like that. We also don't have any big box baby stores like Babies 'R Us or Buy Buy Baby. You better believe next time I'm downstate in the Detroit area I will be hitting up both stores!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@JamieLee: 3 dr appointments and 1 U/S. I think this has more to do with my dr liking to rack up billings than any medical need. I didn't have any bloodwork to confirm either, and I'd be pretty happy with 6wks between appointments (I think i caught a cold at one of them). Unless something didn't feel right - but then I'd just make an extra appointment. Did your dr give you a schedule of visits? They will become closer together eventually.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Grace: I do have to see my OB every 4 weeks! I think that's pretty standard from what I read.
pear / 1812 posts
@JamieLee: I have had 2 of each. But the second one was a bonus surprise and not really for me but for the tech to practice. We wont have one at our next appt at 16 weeks (unless she needs to practice then too! lol)
pear / 1812 posts
@Grace: It is normal to have one every 4 weeks. It picks up to every 2 and then weekly the later you get in your pregnancy. It is to make sure everything and everybody is growing the way they should.
pear / 1812 posts
I think it is crazy they are having you guys fill your bladder! I haven't had to with either one. Infact, the last one I was completely empty and they still got perfectly clear pictures! I don't get what a full bladder has to do with anything.

Lots of exciting times on this thread yay for everyone!!
We are going to make phone calls this weekend to extended family and friends we haven't told yet! Our parents/siblings are dying to spread the news!
Next appointment is March 5th with family MD. We decided to stay with him until 28 weeks when he will pass us on to an OB. I'm hoping he can refer us to someone at the hospital close to our house (less than 10 minutes walking!)

PS - here is our snap from Tuesday's ultrasound! It's not super clear because its actually a snap DH took off the US screen.

@.twist.: I know. My dr does every 3 weeks though, so I'm jealous of her 6-week intervals. Grass is always greener...
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
I'm every 6 weeks for my midwife. And my first appointment wasn't until about 9-10 weeks. That being said, each appointment is an hour long, so I wouldn't want anything more frequent than that!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Ocean girl: it looks like he/she is blowing a heart! Or maybe I just have valentines day on the brain.
Every four weeks here, to switch to every two past a certain point. I've had two appointments and one u/s.
The elective u/s place specifically mentioned that you don't have to drink before hand, just be well hydrated for 72 hours. I had asked my first tech and she said its because sound travels better through liquid, and a full bladder I think pushes the uterus up?
clementine / 930 posts
I guess if I was having to go more often I would probably wish I was going less often. I'm just really paranoid because I had a missed miscarraige last year with no bleeding or cramping, just no h/b once we got to the doctor, so I'm wishing for a little more reassurance that everything is fine...

Hey ladies...just stopping in to say hi from vacation! Today is the first day I have had a computer to use! Crazy how lost I have felt even with my iPhone!
Anyways - not much to report here. I had a long chat with my stepdad (OBGYN) about them changing my due date and he said in reality I am probably somewhere in between the 2 and said I should have a better idea after our NT scan next week (FYI - next appt is 2/22 for that nice long u/s). So that makes me right around 12W now. Still not showing really, just look kinda pudgy. My mom said I am gaining exactly how she did which made me fee better.
Also, I think I felt the movement for the first time. I told my mom the next morning (I was at her condo down here) and she said it sounded like it. We asked my step dad and he said its definitely early but possible. I was laying still staring at the cieling unable to sleep and I felt like a fish did a summersault or blew bubbles in my stomach. My step dad said I probably only noticed it because I was laying so still. My mom said that is def what it feels like!
Anyways - congrats to ou ladies for all your good appointments you've had! I'm so excited we are all chugging along now through the "easier" stage of pregnancy! Cant wait to get back to the real world so I can keep up better on everyones posts!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
Oh and about appointments, I go every 4 weeks until closer to the end when it becomes every 2 then every week.
I had one at 7W (blood taken and a full workup) w/ an u/s the next day, one at 11W which was useless (just peed in a cup and had blood pressure taken), I go back at 15 weeks for more blood (3/14) and then I guess my anatomy scan will be after that!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@JamieLee: Oh, I don't blame you. That was my biggest fear going to the U/S. Have you told your doctor that? Perhaps with your past history, they'll would be willing to get you in earlier. Although, as luck would have it, you might end up like MsMay and me who have babies that hide from the doppler.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@redsmarties: @.twist.: Make that appt triplets because my next appt is also on March 14th, which is our anatomy scan. We already found out the gender during our NT scan, so this will either confirm that or refute it. We already told our family we're team hotdog so not sure what I'll do if the baby all of the sudden is team hamburger! Ha!
@Mrs Hedgehog: I see my OB every 4 weeks up until 20 something weeks, then it's every 2 weeks, then weekly after 32 weeks.
@JamieLee: I've had 3 prenatal appointments, 1 NT scan at a high risk doctor/hospital, and 3 ultrasounds (1 of which was an "accident" because the OB wasn't able to find the baby's heartbeat on the doppler). 2 of those 3 prenatal appointments included bloodwork.
I'm super surprised to hear all about your ladies having to drink so much water before an ultrasound! I haven't been informed to yet, and since I have to give a urine sample at each appointment, my bladder has been practically empty! Fortunately, I don't have to retain the fluid because my bladder is itty bitty, and I"m not sure I can hold it for that long!
My appointment was short and sweet yesterday. Got to hear the baby's heartbeat first, then we did a pap smear, and answered any questions I had. That's it! Next appointment will be the anatomy scan and blood work to identify additional abnormalities that weren't tested during the NT scan. I'll be 19 weeks then.
We also started looking at daycares/montessori's yesterday and the price tag definitely makes me flinch. Sigh.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@Alivoo01: Yeah, I specifically asked if I had to prepare before my ultrasound and they told me no. The tech didn't have any problems finding what he needed.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Alivoo01: TRIPLETS! awesome! What time are you finding out?
Ladies, I've been doing some research on items that I don't think people will buy for me (Crib, car seat, stroller, furniture) and I have managed to find some decent quality stuff for all under $1,000 CAD.
I'm so impressed with myself.
Here's my list so far:
Crib + Mattress (Ikea) - $278
http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30192922/
Hemnes Dresser (Ikea) - $150
http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/00242631/
Chicco Keyfit Carseat + Base - $209
http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=11940817
City Mini Stroller + Carseat adapter - $340 (I have to double check if the adapter works with the keyfit though. I'll be sad if it doesn't!)
http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=12353622
Total Cost: $977.00
Has anyone else looked into this sort of thing? Anyone done better than me? This is all assuming I have to pay for all of these things myself. If someone happens to want to purchase one for me, even better!
Also, are any of you getting a lot of hand me downs? So far I'm getting two things passed down to me.
Exersaucer - Free!
Breast Pump - Free! (It's from a veeeery close friend of mine and I trust she's taken good care of it and sterilized it and stuff so I am not worried about a used breast pump!)
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@.twist.: My appointment is at 4pm CST. Mine are always in the afternoon to accommodate the hubby's work schedule.
We've done pretty much the same research as you on the big ticket items. Here's our list:
Crib - $119
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00210786/
Mattress - $70
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70152877/
Dresser - either $299 or $149 depending on where we place the dresser so it'll be about which dresser is more appropriate for size
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40239274/
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00242631/#/40242629
Carseat: Chicco KeyFit 30 (PURCHASED) - $154
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18244686
Stroller: City Select (we're still narrowing down options, but this is our top contendor right now since we'll want to have kids within 2 years of each other. Britax B Agile or the City Versa are our other contendors) - $500
http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=129003&
Total: $1,074 or $1,236 (depending on the dresser)
I also found a glider I'm absolutely in love with by Dutailier, but for the glider and ottoman, it's $1,000!!! Ouch!!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@.twist.:@Alivoo01: Have you looked in person at the Hemnes dresser? I really liked it and also wanted it, but when I went to check it out, I found that it was a very flimsy piece of furniture. Just food for thought.
The only thing that we've picked out so far is this crib: http://m.toysrus.ca/skava/static/product.html?type=TRU_product_non_us&url=%2Fproduct%2Findex.jsp%3FproductId%3D12330463&domain=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toysrus.ca
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Grace: No, I haven't had the chance to see it in person! That is really disappointing to hear because it does look really nice! It was one of the items I was unsure about, so hopefully I can find something better.
@Alivoo01: haha! I like that all our stuff is almost identical.
