@.twist.: LMAO!! I didn't realize we had such similar (or rather identical) taste!!

@Grace: I have checked out the dresser in person, but all dressers at Ikea kind of feel like that. We'll definitely be using the safety tab to attach it to the wall. I feel better that it's a shorter one vs a taller one. I've looked at dressers elsewhere, and I just can't justify spending $500 on a dresser... =(

@Alivoo01: Did you try out the glider?? I tried out a few and of COURSE all the really comfortable ones were over $1,000 LOL. Also, ditto on the dresser, I cringe at the thought of spending so much on a piece of wood.

@.twist.: There were other Ikea dressers that were much more solid, so there is hope for an economical choice!

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Alivoo01: I actually found several other Ikea ones that felt much more solid with smoother running drawers. But it's all personal taste. Just wanted to make sure you weren't ordering it sight unseen.

@Grace: Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely be checking it out in person. I want to check out the crib anyway and I live about 15 minutes from an Ikea, so it's not too bad for me!

@.twist.: Yes, I did try out the glider, and once I sat my butt in that nice one, all others fail in comparison. haha! The hubby actually eyed it from across the room while I was trying out other gliders. He suggested I go try it out so I did, and oh.my.goodness. Heaven!!!

@Grace: We're not set on that dresser, but was a contendor during our brief visit couple weeks ago. We'll go back and take family with us to get confirmation and check out the others! If there's one in particular you really liked or heard good reviews on, please share! I'm all ears!!

@.twist.: I"m totally registering for both the crib and stroller although I think it could go either way with someone buying our crib. I was about to buy a used Oeuf Sparrow, then I realized Target and Amazon sell a knockoff for 1/2 the price that looks exactly the same and has the same dimensions. It also comes with the toddler bed conversion kit, which you have to buy separately with the oeuf sparrow. I'm still so up in the air about what stroller I want, we can only have one so I have a ton more research to do.

Also, an update to my situation. The Dr. did actually end up calling last night, but not until 6:30pm and I had already given up and turned off my phone and was enjoying V-day with DH. So I called back today and after tons of phone tag, I finally got my Nuchal results which are excellent. So I'm feeling really good about biting the bullet and sending out our announcements, and I also might even announce to work earlier than I planned.

@Modern Daisy: I posted this quite a while ago so I'm not sure if you got a chance to look at it or not. Anyway, we can only have one stroller also and the one I've picked seemed to fit everything I wanted. I found it reviewed on this website: http://www.lucieslist.com/1-car-seats-and-rtollers/ and I found her reviews insanely helpful. Maybe that can help you decide which stroller will work for you!

I also am wondering if I should wait until the spring to look for a crib. Target is opening in my area and I know they are supposed to have great deals so maybe I should just hold off for now??

Also! Awesome update! So glad they got back to you and that everything is good! What a relief!

@Alivoo01: I liked this one, http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/10180524/ but it only comes in white and I don't like white. I don't know that I'm much help!
@Modern Daisy: Whoohoo! Glad to hear it!

@Modern Daisy: Yay for callback and proceeding with your cute announcements!

@Grace: haha! I'm not a fan of white either. Guess we coud always strip the paint and paint it to whatever color we want, but that's more work than I'd like to do right now. We've seen a couple really nice dressers go on sale for 50% off at Target, but they're always white! Arg. Lol!! Thanks for sharing though!!!

@.twist.: I was going to get the hemnes, but was surprise-gifted with a beautiful birds eye maple dresser that belonged to my grandmother. Not sure if I'll want to change diapers on top of it though.

    So far I've picked out:

Crib: Graco Charleston 4-in-1 Convertible $152
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Graco-Charleston-4-in-1-Convertible-Classic-Crib-White/15052217

(I guess I have to have white with the birds eye maple and the fact that there's two white bookcases in there already)

Mattress (haven't decided which one yet): $188
    http://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Classica-Crib-Mattress-Beige/dp/B002EL4J14/
    http://www.amazon.com/Willow-Natural-Coconut-Palm-Mattress/dp/B001N44BXE/

Carseat - probably Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35: $140
    girl: http://www.amazon.com/Graco-SnugRide-Click-Connect-Grapeade/dp/B00AHVR1UY/
    boy: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18597566

Stroller - will just be a base for the carseat for now: $77
    http://www.amazon.com/Graco-1793955-SnugRider-Elite/dp/B008OIPZW8

    Total: $557

We will have to get another car adapter though (+$52).

and this is the glider I'm thinking of, though I haven't seen it/tried it out in person. I basically like it for the price lol:

    http://www.amazon.com/Stork-Craft-Glider-Ottoman-White/dp/B0031QPN52/

@Modern Daisy: so glad to hear your results came back excellent!!!!

@.twist.: Wow, that website is awesome!! I was leaning away from the City Mini because I thought there was no way for the infant to face you in it, I had no idea you could get the car seat adaptor.

I still can't find out if there is a car seat adaptor for the Uppababy Vista, but if there is then I'll probably go with that stroller. I know it's super pricey, but I really don't mind spending more $ for something that is going to make our lives a lot easier. Storage space in a stroller is super important since we're city people and I like that it has a little bassinett stand because we were going to buy a separate bassinett anyway for when we have guests! I think what I"ll do is test them both out in person and make up my mind.

I feel so behind! I haven't started to research any cribs, strollers, nothing! Eeeek! I just don't even know where to begin! lol What's everyone planning on using for their baby to sleep on for the first few months? Anybody going straight to crib? I'm going to use a pack n play with bassinet attachment. That's the one decision I've made! lol My cousin swears by the rock n play sleeper, and it seems really comfy and convenient, but pediatrician recommendations are for infants to sleep flat on their backs on a firm mattress. So even though the rock n play can be used for "all night sleep" it doesn't seem to fit those guidelines. I don't want to be a crazy person, but I want to do the safest thing possible. I just feel like I over analyze more than any other first time moms I know in real life.

@skipper2010: We're going to attempt to have the baby sleep in the crib from the get go, but we'll see how it goes!

I just had to run by and tell you some exciting news! Well. For me anyway. Lol. We've got a bump! Kinda... you cant really see it yet but Mr Hedgie and I can feel it without a doubt! Before we thought it might just be pudge but it has definitely gotten bigger! It feels so good to FEEL pregnant finally. Even if only a little bit.

  17. Modern Daisy

    grapefruit / 4187 posts

@Mrs Hedgehog: That's awesome hooray for a bump!! My DH feels my belly every few days and swears there is a bump, but I think it's still just pudge at this point

  18. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@skipper2010: I'm undecided. I asked DH what he did for my stepkids and he said straight to the crib, but I kinda want to keep a closer eye on the baby than that to start. I do have the Rock N Play on my registry; I think the concern there is that some babies end up with a flat head, which is a little scary. There's also this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Night-Sleep-System-Ardmore/dp/B00AHVR5U0/

I'm not sure if I can justify the price, but it's a new offering by Graco.

The link @.twist. gave is also super useful. I keep on waiting for Lucie to update with the 2013 models.

@lawbee11: did you see the posts on the Gender Disappointment post about wrong gender calls at 16w elective ultrasounds? lol I think I will keep the news to myself until the 18-20 week confirms it!

@Alivoo01: I wish you could see!! I just look chubby in the mirror but when I lay down it is really there. I can't even suck in my stomach right there which is so weird! Everything else gets sucked in but that little pooch doesn't move. I still have to post the sono pic from Tuesday... I am so behind!

@skipper2010: I feel behind too! DH and I are using this weekend as our first time to even look at major baby gear/nursery items.

I do know that we won't be going straight to crib. Mostly out of convenience since I'll want the baby close by for breastfeeding. There's no way I'm going across the hall multiple times in the middle of the night

  24. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

@.twist.: I've used Lucie's List and a bunch of other sites to figure out the best rated (and necessary items). I haven't added things together yet, just priced them individually, but my list looks very similar to yours. Ikea crib for sure, and we're using the cube-storage-system from Ikea for a combination dresser/change table. We're hijacking it and adding legs and things.

  25. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@skipper2010: We're going to try crib from the start. DH is such a light sleeper, it would never work to have them in the same room.

    @Mrs Hedgehog: Whoohoo!

I love the bassinet and change table attachment for the Pack and Play (Graco?). I think we might get that, and use it in our room for the first little while for the baby. I also think that the Rock and Play is very cool. We'll see what sounds best based on research.

@Modern Daisy: Glad all of your NT results were so good! I am sure that's such a relief for you!

@skipper2010: I think we're going to get a bassinet for our room for the first few months. Our bedroom is on the first floor and all the others are upstairs, so we probably won't transition to the crib until baby is only having one or two night wakings.

@Mrs Hedgehog: Yay for a bump!! Some days mine looks big and others it just doesn't look like a bump at all...so weird!

@StrawberryBee: Yes! I am just going to roll the dice and hope that the tech is right!

As far as gear goes and what we're planning to buy:

Stroller: UppaBaby Cruz--regularly $459, but got it 20% off through Pish Posh Baby + no tax + free shipping = $368.

Crib + mattress: Babyletto Hudson--regularly $399, but got it for $299 on amazon + free crib mattress (Da Vinci Ultra Firm ($89 value)) + free shipping = $299

Dresser: I really want the matching Babyletto Hudson dresser, but it's $399, and I haven't seen it on sale anywhere. I am hoping my parents gift it to us.

Glider: We're leaning towards the Poang rocker from Ikea. Not as comfortable as some of the gliders I've tested, but all of the gliders I like are $800+. The Poang is $219, plus I like the way it looks!

Carseat: I have been lusting over the UppaBaby Mesa for months (it comes out in April). It's $279, but won't require us to buy an adapter for our stroller, so that will save us some money.

Anyway, awwwww! What a great profile! Awesome u/s pic!

  32. Mrs Hedgehog

    pear / 1812 posts

@StrawberryBee: no but it is the only one I have... they give us print outs not a cd... DH scanned it into the computer for me. Its not like it has any real info anyway other than my name which anybody can easily find on the internet nowadays. (Have you ever tried googling yourself? Its crazy!)

Thanks! I wasnt expecting to be able to make out a real profile with a forehead, nose, mouth and chin!

  33. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@Mrs Hedgehog: yeah, we only got printouts too, and they wouldn't let us take any video or pics of the screen. I had to use my phone to take a pic of the printout. If it bothers you I could edit your info out like I did mine in photoshop, but it doesn't sound like it does ;).

Off to pick up cat medication from his pharmacy (my cat has a pharmacy...wth), medicate and feed him, then race back in time for our elective ultrasound!

@StrawberryBee: That sleep system looks awesome. I'm planning on a pack and play in our room for the first few months, especially while baby is feeding often at night since I plan to b/f. I like that portable bassinet though! That would be super convenient at the beginning, especially because I'm trying to figure out where a big pack and play would go in our bedroom. Our room is big, but our furniture is massive and with our layout, the only space in on DH's side of the bed, defeating the purpose...might have some furniture rearranging in my future!
