Okay do I think we are going through a growth spurt right now. I have this constant dull cramp that pulls a little when I move and my uterus feels a little tight. Nothing some tylenol can't handle though!
Have you guys ever experienced what could feel like a growth spurt?
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: Yes - I have definitely experienced this before - it basically felt like I was pulling a muscle any time I moved! The good news is that means the bambino is growing and needs more space!!!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: Yep! Recently I've had a lot of muscle twinges and little sharp pains! Nothing that concerns me but it definitely makes me think things are growing in there.
I've also noticed my belly button is shallower!

Also, my mom went to PB kids yesterday to try out the rocking chair I have been looking at and found this adorable bedding set...

I'm going to go check it out this weekend - I love it from the pictures though!

@StrawberryBee: Thanks! I was excited when DH said "of thats pretty nuetral - I could carry that if need be"...I'll need to get a coupon though, I know coach runs 25% off and $100 off $300 coupons - fingers crossed I can find one!

@OrganicSass: Welcome! You and I have almost the same due date.
@Mrs D: So so cute! And yes, I like the same things you do. I do wish I could get some more veggies into me, though.
@Mrs.Hedgehog: If you are in the second trimester, then I must be too! I was getting conflicting info on when it started.
@StBHisMrs: Yeah, I'm still super bloaty. It feels better since I caved and bought maternity jeans, but it still gets me up in the middle of the night.
I'm finding lately that gross-looking and gross-smelling things are starting to give me the dry heaves. It's weird because earlier on, those things didn't have an effect on me. And my gag reflex seems to be greater. It often takes a couple attempts to get my prenatal down. Any one find this? I figured that if I didn't have it earlier, I was safe. Now I'm not so sure.

I started my baby registry today - yaay! Man are there a lot of products to choose from. I'ts private right now because I want to fine tune it over the next couple of months by testing out as much of the gear in person as possible, especially the stroller. I probably won't put the stroller on the registry since it's so expensive (uppababy vista), but all of the coordinating gear will definitely go on.
What are your registry must-haves?? I compiled a list from the blogger bee suggestions!
pear / 1812 posts
@Modern Daisy: I don't know how you do it! I tried! I just feel guilty asking for anything even though I know thats what registries are for. lol. Where did you register? We are thinking Baby's R Us and Target since those are pretty common everywhere.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: I know, I have the guilty feeling too - but I will most likely have 2 showers and most people depend on the registry in order to buy gifts. I'm registering on Amazon since you can put practically anything on there and it will all be in one place. Right now I'm just piling on everything under the sun I can think of, but it will get whittled down as I go through it with DH and test things out.
I'm not putting any baby clothes on there lol! I feel like we'll get so many of those anyway, so it's pointless to register for additional clothing.

Oh! And I think we found the travel system we want! With every system we find there seems to be ups and downs but this one has more ups for us than it does downs. It is super light, it fold insanely easily and the fabric feels durable, not cheap. Plus it has gotten some amazing safety ratings! The downs? I am not a fan of the handle for the carrier or the stroller. And it folds weird, it fold backward so the handle is on the ground instead of in the air. People have also complained the carseat is big and heavy... which I am find with if it means my baby is safer!
Ugh... who knew a simple travel system could be so hard to decide on!

Appointment went really well today! Got to hear the heartbeat and the results of our nt scan (all great so far, 1 in 10,000 chance). I haven't gained any weight since the last appointment. Found out that the lab flubbed and didn't test for something they charged me for in the very first draw, so they added it to my blood draw again this time.
Anatomy scan is march 1st! The reg dr appointment march 18.

Oh, and for those starting registries, DH picked up a babies r us brochure at the drs office today and inside was a coupon for a ten dollar gift card with registry setup in store. I just started mine online two days ago, but I called and they said they would honor it. Google searches suggest target may offer something similar? FYI!

@StrawberryBee: Target sent me a baby registry catalog along with a $20 gift card for starting a registry with them! We haven't started any registries yet, but am holding onto it!
We hired a photographer to document the day we're giving birth, not like a documentary per say, but to take pictures of the clock at different points during labor, capture the moments right before we become mommy and daddy, our facial expressions as they place our DS on my chest, the weighing and measuring, etc. And she offered to do a free announcement session for us also!! It was extremely windy that day, but we got awesome pictures!! Here are the two I used to announce publicly on FB yesterday. First one is my cover photo and the second picture is my profile picture.

@Alivoo01: GREAT pictures! Love the baby Tom's!
For all you ladies that have had an NT Scan - how long was the ultrasound? How much blood did they take?
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Alivoo01: I saw those yesterday--I love them!! I wanted to comment but I was worried your friends would be like who is this creeper?
@Mrs D: Our NT scan only took 15 min. or so (but our tech was a biatch and just did everything quickly--I wish she had taken more time to explain what we were seeing). They only took 1 vial of blood!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs D: The ultra sound was probably 15 minutes? I think? It was hard to tell because I was so caught up checking out the baby! haha also, I think we had a newer tech so it took her a little longer to find things. She eventually had to call in another girl to get the right angle on one measurement.
As for my blood, I had it done about a week before the U/S. They took about 4 vials I think, which was about 4 tablespoons (or teaspoons??? that's a big difference and I can't remember which one she said it was!) Sorry, I'm ending up to be not much help! haha
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@.twist.: Thanks! The hubby is a sucker for baby TOMs too and picked up 3 pairs yesterday on Zulily for DS!! They're in various larger sizes so hopefully we picked okay sizes that will fit later on!
@Mrs D: The baby TOMs was the hubby's idea! He's the creative one out of us two. Ha! As for the NT scan, the ultrasound took about 45 minutes? They take a bunch of measurements of you first, then of the baby, then just browse around to show you everything about the baby - where their bladder is, where their umbilical chord is, their brain, profile and frontal view of their face and brain, etc. As for blood draw, they took 5 small dots out of my finger. That's it!
@lawbee11: haha! Thanks!! Nah! I have various circle of friends so no worries!
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@.twist.: @Alivoo01: Our tech showed us my ovaries during the NT scan, and I could not see them at all. But I just pretended and said "oh, cool!"
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@lawbee11: @.twist.: @Alivoo01: Thanks ladies! I am trying to prep DH and I told him I wasn't sure how long it would take. I also told him is was the u/s on your belly right? Not transvaginal?
The last time they took blood (my first appt at 7W) they took 6 vials of blood and I was crazy light headed afterwards, so I will plan to take some snack just in case they do the same again!
Did you get your results once the blood has been processed? Like over the phone a week or so later? I know I will see a doctor after the u/s tomorrow, but I also know they wont have the blood results by then obviously.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs D: Yep, it's a belly u/s. Also, I met with a doctor right after the u/s and because I'd done my bloodwork a week early, they gave me my results right then and there. So, I'm no sure how long it would take if they get the results later.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@lawbee11: haha! I saw my right one, but she had some difficulty locating my left one and when she finally found it, I was thinking the same as you, "where?! But okay!".
@Mrs D: My NT scan was on a Monday, and I received a phone call with the results on Friday.
grapefruit / 4823 posts
@Mrs D: my NT scan was between 30-45 mins. And where I go they just do a finger prick and about 10 drops of blood for it
grapefruit / 4545 posts
I totally told DH to play "dumb" and just keep asking about the gender. I was like "I'm the one reading the books so I am supposed to know that you dont find out the gender necessarily at this appointment - but you, you can blame dumb and just keep asking!" He also really really wants to know - so I said just be a pest...
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Mrs D: haha! It's possible though! I found out my gender during my NT scan! The nurse and doctor both asked if we wanted to know, and we both said YES!!!
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@Alivoo01: Awww, really cute pictures!! So exciting that you will have prof pictures for the birth
@Mrs D: My NT scan was actually more like 45 minutes to an hour, the tech really took a lot of images and just let us gaze at the baby for a long time. The finger prick was only 5 drops of blood, but right before the prick they took 15 vials of blood for other tests. So I was basically a pin cushion that day! And our blood results were available one week later for the finger prick, all other tests were available 2-3 days later.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Modern Daisy: FIFTEEN vials?!?!?!?!?! Holy cow!!!!! You were more than just a pin cushion! You were sucked dry by a vampire!! haha!

@Alivoo01: Those photos are amazing! I'm planning something involving baby shoes for our FB announcement too. I'm thinking, since it's a snowy winter wonderland here, of doing something with boots, so I need to find some baby boots.

@Alivoo01: So cute!!!
@lawbee11: I did this too. I kept squinting, trying to see something, but nada.
@Mrs D: good luck with your appointment!
This weekend, DH and I made a few decisions on baby gear! (Yay! I feel like we're really having a baby now!) We still didn't buy anything, but we have a 20% BBB coupon that expires at the end of the month so we'll probably try to use it.
I also bought a snoogle on Sunday. I LOVE that thing. I will probably sleep with it forever, pregnant or not!

Okay ladies, I just got back from one of the biggest scares of my life and felt like I needed to talk to someone, or atleast about it to someone. It is almost 2 am so I don't want to wake my family yet and Mr. Hedgie just crawled into bed since he has to be at work in 6 hours.
We are at 13 weeks 3 days and while at work I suddenly felt... weird. I went to the bathroom as soon as I could and there was blood. I freaked the F out. I am 2 hours into my night shift and decide right then and there that I am going to the hospital. I let my supervisor know and he demanded that I either wait for my husband to drive me or he will drive me himself because I was shaking too damn much. 30 minutes later my husband arrives and 6 hours later we are discharged from the hospital with a clean bill of health.
The nurse said it could be from anything but she didn't see any problems. She did see some old blood but nothing she was concerned about. The baby's heart rate was good and my cervix was closed and didn't look damaged to bloody at all. TMI but a good TMI. They also ran my HCG levels which she said looked good for how far along I am but only my OB will be able to compare it to my previous HCG. She gave me the rest of my work week off, which I didn't need but I wasn't going to argue, so that I can rest just in case while I set up an appt with my OB.
I am going to call them first thing in the morning and I have a feeling they will want to see me right away. I am still a little stressed and concerned as to where the blood came from in the first place but with everything looking good she said it could be just a fluke or a one time thing.
Oh, and 3 weeks absolutely no sex. Mr. Hedgie is super bummed about this one. lol. But also super relieved everything is looking okay so far. I don't think I have ever seen that man so nervous in my life! I felt horrible but also somewhat comforted seeing on his face what I was feeling inside. It is really hard to explain. Almost like seeing him so scared reassured what I already knew about how he felt about this baby. Weird, I know.
Okay, that was super long but I had to get it out! I will let you guys know what the OB says. Until then I will lay here and chew my nails off because I am such a worrier.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: What a scary experience but I am so glad to hear everything looks good! I had two random bits of blood back around 8/9W and no sex was the first thing my stepdad told me. I think there are a few things that could cause this and from what I understand from talking to some friends at one point or another most of them had a blood scare! I totally know what you mean how difficult it is not to freak the hell out - when it happened to me I just kept telling myself "if you freak out and let your heart race like crazy its just going to make it worse for the baby"...Glad you're okay - hope all goes well when you meet with your OB!
cherry / 163 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: Oh my gosh, that must have been terrifying I'm so sorry you went through that- I'm happy that you were able to get some reassuring information and I'm sure your OB will see you quickly. Keep us posted, and I'll be sending positive thoughts your way!

For those of you mom's to be who plan to go back to work after LO arrives have you given any thought to how long you'll take off work? Have you discussed it with your bosses? Will you take any time before LO arrives? How is your company's maternity leave?
For me, if I delivered on my due date (sticking with 8/28) my 6 weeks of "paid" (at 60%) plus two weeks of vacation I'll have accrued only gets me to mid October. So I think I will use 4 additional weeks from FMLA to get me to 12 weeks. That has my first day back to work as the Monday of Thanksgiving week (a slow week at work anyways) which would be nice to only have LO in daycare for 3 days the first week. Then I have 3 full weeks of work before I have a full week off with Christmas (I wont have the PTO to take but my work will be all but shut down basically the 26/27/30 of December. I feel good about this and our budget doesn't take too much of a hit me going sans pay for 4 weeks.
Just wondering what others plans our? I know some people take like 8 or 10 full weeks off and then work partial weeks for the first few back. For me/my job - partial weeks just dont really work well.
grapefruit / 4823 posts
@Mrs D: When i had DS i worked up until my due date(April 26th). i was scheduled for an induction for April 30th, but there was a scheduling error so i didn't go in until May 2nd. so i had 3 days off of work beforehand. I ended up having a c-section so i had 8 weeks paid from disability and then took the remaining 4 weeks that were left on my FMLA(disibility and FMLA run concurrent at my job) unpaid to make it to 12 weeks.
ETA: this time i don't plan on going back to work because we can't afford 2 in daycare and it will be nearly impossible to work from home with a ~18 month old(that's how old he'd be when i'd go back) and a newborn/3 month old.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: Oh, that is scary! Especially to happen when you are supposed to have passed the scary first trimester. I'm glad everything's ok!
@Mrs D: I haven't discussed mat leave with my employer yet. It seems so far away! I'd love to work part time when I go back, but I don't have a job that would make that very easy, so I'm sure that's out.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: OMG I would have freaked the F out, too! I still hold my breath every time I go to the restroom. I don't think the worrying will ever stop (even after baby is here). I am so glad everything is ok, though! I am glad you'll have a few days to rest. Sucks about the no sex thing, but it's worth it for baby!
@Mrs D: I am actually planning to take off around 5 months (but I have a very generous employer). My pay will be similar to yours--6 weeks disability and a couple of weeks of saved vacation pay. Other than that it will be unpaid (DH makes significantly more than I do, so while I couldn't be a SAHM, we can afford for me to take some extra time). I told HR these plans when I told them about my pregnancy, and they approved me being off until mid to late January.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: OMG!!!! I was totally freaking out for you while reading your post. So, so, so glad to hear everything is okay though. Please keep us posted!
@Mrs D: I haven't discussed maternity leave with my boss or HR yet, but I plan on taking all the time off allowed (12 weeks), and working up until I give birth. However, I'm going to ask to work from home the last month since my delivery hospital and work is about an hour apart! Or at least work from home mainly and just come in on meeting days. For leave, I'll get 6 weeks at 60% pay (STD), 1 week paid maternity leave, then use whatever PTO I have (should be about 3 weeks), then FMLA for the remaining of the 12 weeks I'm entitled to. This puts me at the beginning of November, I'm going to see if I can work from home part time for the remainder of the year (maybe go in 2 days a week), then resume full time office hours in January 2013. This request might be difficult, but I'm going to try!

Thank you so much for your support ladies! I talked to my OB and she said based on what the ER said and the fact that there is no more bleeding and that what I saw was old blood she doesnt need to see me yet. If I see any more heavy bleeding like a period they will want to see me immediately. Just to rest for the weekend and definitely no sex. It feels kinda good knowing she isnt stressing and needing to see me. She is confident the baby is fine.
