@Alivoo01: You're an auditor also right? I am so lucky I am missing one of our worst times of year (when we have our large audit in India) but I am coming back right in time for the year end audit! Ugh!

Thanks for all the input ladies! I think the whole work/pregnant/woman thing has gotten so much more stressful for me and its crazy how much I worry about it changing things at work. My department is very male dominant (all my bosses are male) and I was just at the point of promotion when I had to announce I was expecting. It seems like the promotion is still in the future but it just makes me wonder how this pregnancy will delay it (if any). I was very excited this week when I got my bonus because they gave me a very generous amount which calmed my nerves a little that they do still value me and my efforts!

@Mrs Hedgehog: wow! So scary! So sorry you had to go through that! Just for comforts sake, my girlfriend had a LOT of bleeding throughout her second trimester and every time she went and got checked out the baby was totally fine. She's now about 3 weeks away from delivery! She ended up having to stop work 3 months early and take it really easy, but the baby has stayed healthy and fine.

@Mrs D: I have 52 weeks off because I live in Canada so there's not much to talk about. I probably will ask to come back part time at first once my year is over, but I won't be mentioning that to them until they ask me whether or not I'm coming back.

@Mrs D: Yup! Our normal busy season is between June and December, but I can easily contact my process owners and request information via email so I think it's do-able. Not as easy as getting up and walking over there and be like hey! I need documentation, LOL!!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Oh my goodness, you poor thing! How scary! Glad to hear they checked you out and everything looks fine. Get lots of rest and take it easy this weekend.

@Mrs D: I'm pretty sure that in NY state I can only take 3 months of maternity leave including the paid leave and FMLA. I still haven't talked to HR yet though. If I do deliver on or after my due date, I would ideally like to be out until 2014 since I think that would still be just under 4 months of leave considering the holidays. We'll see though, I agree with you that coming back Thanksgiving week would be a great time to come back to work.

So I told my boss today and it couldn't have gone better. She was screaming wiht excitement and gave me a huge bear hug. She told me to just work from home whenever I want this summer and not to worry about Dr.'s appt's or anything like that. She then sent an email to the other managers and they all congratulated me. She also emailed my DH to congratulate him!

I'm so happy to finally be 'out'. My next step is a FB announcement, I'll probably do that this weekend.

@Modern Daisy: Yay for an awesome response to your announcement at work! I love understanding and accommodating bosses! Makes life soooooo much easier!

@Modern Daisy: that sounds great! Glad it went so well

    @Mrs D: good luck!

I think one of my nosy coworkers suspects I'm pregnant. She is kind of irritating about it and I refuse to acknowledge ANYTHING. It doesn't help that I'm not particularly fond of her in the first place, but now I'm worried she's going to blab her theories all over the office. >:-[

In happier news, one of DH's best friends is coming to visit and DH has not told him we're having a baby so we're going to tell him this weekend. Now that we're actually "out" with most of our friends, I'm excited to tell him!

@Mrs D: Can't wait to see your ultrasound pictures! Hope you have a good appointment and the dr/nurse is uber nice!

@msmay: Yay for telling more friends. When are you planning on announcing at work?

@Alivoo01: thanks, I will definitely hold off setting up the target registry until I get/find a gift card coupon. Gorgeous pictures!!

@Mrs Hedgehog: you poor thing, I am SO glad things turned out okay for you!

@Mrs D: I'll get 6 weeks short term but two of those weeks have to be my own time. I have 9 weeks of sick time saved and 4 weeks of vacation. November is our busy time, so I've already told them I'll be back those first two weeks, even if I continue to take off after.

Stuck at the airport right now with flight delayed due to snow. Managed to get in the back scatter scanner line so I opted to have a pat down instead. I am NOT looking forward to this flight.

Hey ladies! My due date has been changed a couple times and it looks like I'm now an August mama! Or at least will be close. My EDD is now August 1st and I'm 17 weeks! I'm excited to get to know you all!

@Mrs Hedgehog: I'm so glad your Dr. isn't worried about it, that would be so scary.

@sarbear: I'm in the same boat as you, it won't make financial sense for me to go back to work after this one is born. We can't afford to have two in daycare. I've got to find something to do at home to make money!

    @Mrs D: HI baby D!

Is anyone else having back pain? My lower back is really sore today

@.twist.: I have, especially if I'm sitting on a horrible couch. I had a massage today (since I'm officially 2nd trimester) and it was awesome!

@StbHisMrs: yeah, daycare is so expensive! I think our plan is for me to be home until January full time and then find something part time after January. We are still trying to figure it all out

    @Mrs D: hi baby d!

@andrea86: welcome!! You and I are similar time frames, I was also straddling July and August (I figure I'll go late anyway since it's my first).

@.twist.: no back pain here. Yet!

@.twist.: YES!!! I have been having terrible lower back pain but I think its cause I am sleeping funky - I think I need to get a body pillow.

Ok - so here's a more detailed update on my scan!

When she first started the u/s the baby was totally chillin and relaxing. Not moving much beyond a stretch here and there. She got a good picture of the neck tissue but said she needed to get a good picture of the nose cavity to complete the testing. So we had to get the baby to flip which it just was not interested in doing. She had me drink juice, then walk around, then go to the bathroom and poked the crap out of my stomach. During all of this we saw all kinds of great movement - it was cute watching DH's face light up each time the LO moved! Finally after 30 minutes the bambino cooperated and rolled over - she quickly snapped the shots and he rolled right back over! Stubborn little bugger!

After that was a big finger prick followed by 5 drops of blood on a piece of paper. She said my Dr's office will have the results 3-5 business days from now. So sometime late next week/early the following. I'm going to call Friday next week to check.

As for my due date - (remember first I was 8/28 then my doc changed me to 9/3) she said her prediction would be 8/29. So, she said my doctor likely wont change it back - but it was good to hear that I was right in my thinking!

DH and I went to the mall afterwards and cruised PB Kids - I think we picked out some furniture peices and maybe some bedding! We wont buy bedding until we know the gender - but the furniture I am just waiting for either a sale or PB to do their double points!

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@Mrs D: I love PB kids. If I go in there all bets will be off! It's interesting to hear the different experiences with the nt scan. Ours was relatively quick and I had to have blood drawn at the lab next door. I think one or two vials? Then again at 16 weeks.

We live within walking distance of one of the locations for this store: fabbaggear.com
I went into to browse before a hair appointment...
Ladies, I'm in serious trouble! So. Many. Temptations!!!

Question: I'd like to do a small registry at this store because they have so many cute and unique things... I'm wondering if this is a good idea since most of our family live in other provinces and would likely prefer to shop in person instead of online. What do you guys think? Would it be worth it to do a small registry here and then a bigger one someplace like toysrus?

  30. .twist.

    pineapple / 12802 posts

@Ocean girl: I did something similar for my wedding. There is a William Sonoma close to my house but its the only one in the city and none are out of town, a few people bought from there but most stuck with the bay. I think you could do that and have a few people interested! I don't think it hurts to give people more options!

  31. Ocean girl

    kiwi / 637 posts

@.twist.: thanks for the advice! I was thinking a little more about this since I posted and know that there will be some friends and coworkers in the city who would like to buy from some place local!
Are you in Canada?? Where are you planning to do your baby registry?

  32. .twist.

    pineapple / 12802 posts

@Ocean girl: I am!! Alberta I haven decided where to register yet, I kind of guess ill just register at babies r us because it's the most popular?? I've struggled with the decision! Lol

@Strawberrybee: Changing due dates is not good for this impatient mama! HAHA!! I'm pretty sure the baby will be born late anyway, I have had to be induced late for both of my pregnancies so far! Good luck to you!!

Have any of you found of the gender of your baby yet? With my other pregnancies I found out right at 16 weeks, so waiting until 20 weeks is killing me!

@andrea86: girl :). That was at 16 weeks; anatomy scan this Friday (18w) that will hopefully find everything still well in there

Has anyone given any thought as to how much maternity clothes they'll need/are thinking about buying? A couple friends of mine got through their pregnancies with barely buying anything more than a pair of maternity jeans, but one was tall and thin and hardly gained any weight and the other one owned tons of long flowy tops pre-pregnancy and gave birth in the spring. My tops are all pretty tight fitting and I don't want to stretch them out or have them turn into half shirts with my big belly lol. And my summer dresses are all short. So far I bought a casual maternity dress and maxi skirt, but I'm getting overwhelmed at the thought of practically needing a new wardrobe. Thoughts??

  36. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@skipper2010: I'm taking it as I need it. I've bought 2 pairs of jeans (and I need more) and I've realised I need some T-shirts for layering. Most of my sweaters are still working.

  37. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@skipper2010: I have bought a handful of things - mostly work related. I have a fear of being one of those poorly dressed pregnant ladies. Right now, I have 1 pair of nice work pants and 2 pairs of chino's from Gap Maternity. I bought two work tops but am hoping when my SIL sends me her stuff that there are plenty of tops and dresses in there I can use.

As for casual - I bought 2 pairs of yoga pants, a long casual skirt and a zip up hoodie along with 2 casual tops oh and a pair of jean capris. I plan to snag a bunch of tank tops too. I figur that plus my sun dresses I already have should get me through summer (I dont get all that fancy during summer time anyways - pretty much yoga pants and tanks!) so for me the expense was more work stuff. So far I have spent about $250 total.

  38. skipper2010

    kiwi / 597 posts

@Grace: Buying as you need it sounds like a good plan. I'm just so picky when it comes to clothes that I feel like if I see something good I should probably just pick it up because when I need it I'm sure I won't be able to find it lol
@Mrs D: Wow you have a good amount of stuff! All that for $250 doesn't sound so bad.

  39. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

@skipper2010: I've bought a lot so far, but mainly because I started showing really early, and none of my work clothes fit.
I have 3 pairs of dress pants, three long sleeved shirts, a few short sleeve shirts, and 2 pairs of jeans for the weekend. That being said, a lot of the tops fit now and will fit for a long time - I just needed them because my standard button-down tops were all wayyy too tight.

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@skipper2010: Ya I am pretty bad about not doing things in excess! But - I got such good deals on all of it (lots of add'l 40% off at Gap and Old Navy) that it seemed worth it. FWIW the black work pants I got from Gap are AMAZING! So comfortable and they look very nice - I think they may be having 30% off now!
