@skipper2010: This is very true. I might have the same philisophy for tops actually. I didn't buy any yet because I didn't have enough of a bump for it not to look rediculous!

I don't know how you guys are still getting away with out maternity clothes! I have 2 pairs of pants, 1 pair of capris, a bunch of casual t-shirts, and 1 dress. Even with that I feel like I need more!

@andrea86: I am finding out the hard way this morning that I should have better prepared with some maternity/loose fitting work appropriate clothes! I spent 40 minutes this morning tearing my closet apart trying to find something to wear!
I did score two pairs of maternity skinny jeans yesterday. I was hiping some of my usual favorite stores would have had sweater dresses and tights leftover from fall and winter stock at big mark downs but it was so picked over and there was mostly just the spring lines out in stores. I'm going to try again tmr night at a different mall, but I think I'm going to have to resort to ordering some things online from gap (which means paying outrageous shipping fees to Canada!)

@andrea86: Welcome, and I'm team hot dog! We found out during our NT scan when I was about 12 weeks. Our anatomy scan is in 2 weeks to confirm or refute that!
@.twist.: OMG! Yes on the lower back pain. It's ridiculous. Sitting on the floor or even laying down hurts. Boo!! I've been going to the chiropractor, which helps for a couple days, then the pain intensity starts back up again.
@skipper2010: I've bought 3 pairs of maternity jeans and 1 pair of slacks. My company allows me to wear jeans so I'm hoping those 3 pairs will get me by! I've only bought one maternity shirt from GAP and it was $1! ha! Some of my long sleeve shirts are still long enough, but my closet selection is super minimal so I'm definitely not well dressed by any means, but office is always cold so I keep my jacket on all day. No one knows what I'm wearing underneath! I'm only going to buy as needed as well since we'll only get bigger from here on and out, and will run into the blistering summer heat soon!

@Mrs D: I totally think this is why my back was hurting. I've been trying to sleep more straight instead of curled up (like usual) and my back is feeling much better.
@skipper2010: I have given it a bit of thought. My MIL has bought me a few tops and my mom has given me a few that she thinks will "work" lol. Otherwise, I will probably get a pair of work pants because I currently only have one pair that fit and I'm sure people are starting to notice! LOL. I'd love a pair of skinny jeans and maybe some shorts for the summer but otherwise I'm going to try my hardest not to buy much!
I would really like to buy some nursing tanks that can be used pre and post pregnancy to get the most bang for my buck!
Hope everyone is doing well! My bump is finally starting to appear publicly! I think people are actually starting to realize I'm pregnant! yay!

@andrea86: I'll be 16w on Friday, and we're having an elective gender scan on Saturday morning. I can't wait to find out!
@.twist.: Agree about the bump--mine is starting to look more round and less pudge! I am anxiously awaiting the day a stranger asks me when I am due!

@skipper2010: I am definitely going to need a complete spring and summer maternity wardrobe. I am small to begin with and I wear fitted/tight clothes regularly so no way am I going to get away with almost anything pre-pregnancy. Maybe a dress or two, but that's it. I've only gained 3.5 lbs so far, but I already am busting out of my skirts and pants, so it's all gone to my butt and hips and I would imagine things are going ot continue this way.
I've been investing in summer clothes, I've done a few orders from oldnavy and pea in the pod. Mainly work clothes and some casual items. Once I told my Mom I was pregnant last week it took her about 4 days to buy me an entire pregnancy wardrobe including COH maternity jeans! Haha I love my Mom!
@MrsD - My tech also had me get in compromising positions, I was actually on my hands and knees at one point! She also tilted the bed all the way back so I was almost vertical.

I haven't bought any maternity clothes yet...I'm not working at the moment so I spend most of my time in yoga pants which fit fine still, and my jeans still fit. I'm still down 4 pounds, and was overweight to start so I don't really have a bump per say. It makes me sad though! I have a job interview tomorrow, so depending on how that goes, I might need to invest in some dressy stuff. Otherwise, I'll probably just buy a pair of jeans, a pair of capris, some dresses, a maxi skirt, and some casual tops.
As for maternity leave, since I'm unsure what my work situation is going forward, I have no idea. If I start a new job, I will feel guilty asking for a long leave, but will feel guilty for my baby if I don't take a long leave! Who knows what will happen.

Has any one else noticed their moods swing?
I am not normally an overly emotional person. I tend to stay quite calm through most situations and think rationally/logically. However, this past week I feel like I have had meltdown after meltdown about silly things that don't matter OR about things that have always bugged me but I've managed to understand the logical side of it and now I am full on dealing emotionally! My poor husband! I honestly hate feeling like I'm not in control of my emotions!
@lawbee11: I totally snuck an ice cream sandwich the other day instead of going for healthier options! lol
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@.twist.: I belong in a loony bin. Seriously, some days I am happy as a clam and other days I am a raging biatch. I feel bad for my DH, too, because he does nothing to deserve it (which makes me feel even more guilty)! I have found that snacking often helps. I have a long commute home and so when I get home sometimes I will be a crankypants. Lately I have been snacking in the car or right before I leave work, and we've both noticed a difference!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@lawbee11: Thanks for the tip! I will try snacking a bit more. I know my commute is about an hour via train. So I am definitely cranky when I get home. Plus, my iron is SUPER low which adds to the irritability!! I know that when I take iron sups I feel much happier, I just have to remember to do that.
Honestly, today someone on the train had a squeaky jacket and it made me want to rage/puke! haha *heads for padded room*

@.twist.: for sure...DH has had some "talks" with me about it asking me to please take a deep breath before unleashing on him. Whoops! So I am trying...its hard though I feel like I am VERY emotionally unstable right now.
clementine / 930 posts
@.twist.: I sometimes feel like I'm losing my mind. I haven't really been too bad to DH, but we have renters in our basement, and they are the perfect target for my rage. Most of the time it is me silently seething about something annoying they did like breaking my plates or glasses, or leaving a mess. I've also gotten super upset at random people in shops, like the two times men have cut in front of me in line.
I'm also crying a lot more easily...lovely hormones!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@lawbee11: No wonder you're still a skinny at 15 weeks preggo! Healthy snacks/food just doesn't appease me anymore, and even when I try to eat it, it tastes no bueno. Wish I was craving more healthy foods!
@.twist.: I think I'm doing okay so far in the moodiness, but I do notice I get more emotional at things that I'm normally not. Not to the point I start crying, but my heart strings are more easily tugged at. I do find myself getting easily annoyed with people though! That's no bueno!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs D: DH and I have definitely had a few talks as well. I mostly just complain to him that I'm overwhelmed!
@JamieLee: Yea, I haven't been too bad with DH. We have been having some weird stuff happen at home and we went from having his boys every other weekend to BAM pretty much full time and I'm pretty much losing my mind over it. It's been a really hard adjustment especially at this extremely hormonal time! I have a lot of silently seething moments. lol.
@Alivoo01: oh man, I watched a super cute video with cats and dogs and honestly it wasn't even that heart-string-pully but I was crying one minute and laughing the next.

So...not sure how everyone else feels about timing of having everything ready but now being 14W I am kind of starting to freak out about everything I need to have done in the next 14W. I know its ambitious but I am definitely targeting all my to-do's to be done by 28W so there is room for error...
My mom went early with all of us and my sister was 3 weeks early with her son. So I figure if I aim for completion by 28W it gives me some wiggle room. But seriously ya'll, thats a lot of stuff to do in the next 3 months - anyone else starting to freak out a bit?
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs D: Yep. My husband is a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to doing stuff around the house (amazing at his job but not so much house fixes). Our "nursery" is currently an office. A very full, cluttered, dirty, need-to-be-painted office. I really hate to nag, so I have only made a few comments like "you know, soon we're going to have to clear out this room....." but he doesn't seem to take the hints. *cue innerself freak out* and I'm 17 weeks!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@.twist.: OMG!! You took the words right out of my mouth!! I tell my hubby the same exact thing because our nursery is currently our office as well!! I'm like you know you need to move all the monitors, PCs, book cases, the couch, etc. out right? Then we need to set up the eventual crib, dresser, etc. Office still looks exactly the same... Sigh.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@.twist.: @Alivoo01: Ditto ladies...looks like we're all in the same boat! All I told DH to do for the month of March was get a christening date and clean up the office - he acted like I was asking him to plan a world adventure...all I want is a little help!!!!! UGH! The other day he snapped back "just calm down - it'll all get done dont worry its two things" to which I screamed back that there were about 15 things on my to do list which he knew nothing about...and then I likely slammed a door!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs D: hahaha. Honestly, what is it with men? DH says the SAME thing to me about "it will get done, don't worry" and I just think yes, I have 100 things to do, you have ONE thing to do. I know for a fact the only way it will get done is when I get fed up and start doing it myself and then he'll be like "OH, I was going to do that now... let me help you!"!!!! OH REEEEEEALLY?

So I just found who I think may be my newborn photographer...she offers a package for $350 you get 3 sittings with her in a 14 month period (maternity - 1 year) to be held at your choice. I have an email in to her to confirm how much it is to buy the rights to the images - as long as it is not ridiculous I think she might be the best deal! Super excited!

@Mrs D: So fun! I haven't even thought about photos, or if we're going to do them.
Our midwives clinic offers prenatal classes, and the registration is super soon for August babies! Its $225, but its six weeks of courses with a midwife, a doula, and a lactation consultant, so I'm super excited. I think it starts the end of April and goes til the end of May. SO soon! Yikes!

Just this week I have been noticing that my pre-preggie jeans defintely don't close comfortably, and all my favorite tees are too short! Woof. Guess I'm going to be wearing the Belliband all the time now! My bump has definitely gotten rounder over the past couple of weeks, and...we get to find out on Saturday what gender our LO is! AHHHH! What about you ladies?
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Mrs D: That's an awesome deal!!
@greenebee: We find out Saturday, too! I cannot wait. I haven't been productive at all this week at work because it's all I can think about!
clementine / 930 posts
@Mrs D: I'm feeling the same way. My hubby is planning to build the crib (don't worry, he is a builder by trade so he knows what he's doing) but I am worried that he's not being realistic about how much time it's likely to take along with all the other stuff that we need/want to do, like paint and put hardwood flooring and wainscoting in the nursery, buy and if needed refinish the other furniture, and all the rest of the stuff that comes with summer, like weddings, company, parties, etc. Luckily our nursery is a guest room and all we have to move out is a bed, dresser, desk, and nightstand.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@JamieLee: @.twist.: Ya I totally just started doing some of this last week. I am working on just kidnapping him and making him make some decisions where I know I could just do it and he'd be fine but I want his input. Like last weekend when I bribed him to come furniture shopping with offering to buy him mac n cheese from this fancy place for dinner. This weekend I'm taking him to BBB to start looking at stuff - has anyone been? Do they give you a list of suggested registry items?
I'm trying to give him one or two items "to do" each month to keep from him getting overwhelmed. March is Christening date and clean up the office. I started the office (I'll post a pic of my progress in another thread) so really he just needs to call the church. April will be painting the office and completing the registry (which he'll do with me).
Our big joint item for March is picking a Day Care...oy vay!

@Mrs D: I'm so excited about newborn photos! I'm definitely having them done! I suppose it wouldn't hurt to start looking up photographers now. I heard you should book in advance because they need to be done the first week or two of life in order to get those cute flexible newborn positions. I should get on that! That package you found looks like a reasonable price.
@greenebee: We find out on Tuesday. This is going to be the longest week ever!
Is anyone planning on doing a cute gender reveal with their families or close friends once they find out? We're having dinner at my parents the night we find out with the fam, so I might bring a cake for dessert with pink or blue food coloring on the inside so everyone can find out the gender at once when we cut into the cake.

@Mrs D: I know the photographer I WANT to do our new born shots. He did our wedding and engagement and he WOULD do maternity but he doesn't do new born. *cries*
We're still in touch with him on a pretty regular basis so I might just start begging him to think about it. LOL.
@greenebee: EEP! So Exciting! We don't find out until the 14th! Seems waaaay too far away!

@.twist.: we have the same deal! I LOVE our wedding photographer and would kill to have him shoot our newborn (we have such a great relationship with him) but its just not his thing!

@Mrs D: haha have you tried begging? I'm curious if it works because I am honestly thinking about pulling the whole "you would deny a pregnant woman amazing photos of their newborn??????" HAHA. I'm eeeeevil.

Oh my goodness, I wanted to paint our nursery and my DH had a fit! What made it worse is I finally convinced him to paint it, we did it and both hated the color afterwards! So we had to repaint. There was definitely a scream/crying episode where I had to remind him that there is only so much time to get this all done before the baby comes and it's NOT going to happen this summer since we are booked every weekend. He's stopped fighting about the home improvements and is now a lot more helpful/supportive. I think it helped that he read the Dad section in "What to Expect" which basically gives fathers a pep talk about being supportive during our pregnancies.
My next project is painting all of our doorknobs, which has nothing to do with our nursery but definitely something I want to do before the baby comes. I want our house in top shape so there is no work to do before we go to sell.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Mrs D: @.twist.: OMG!! Again - yes!!! On the comment "don't worry, it'll get done." They do realize it's more work than it always looks right???
@Mrs D: Yay on finding a photographer!!! Fortunately for me, the hubby seems to be interested in looking at day cares so that has been an okay area for us! Hubby and I have been to BBB to browse and look at various items, but haven't started a registry yet. I'm sure they'll give you a list of must have items. There's also this one website that gives you a list of items to buy now vs buying later. I can't recall the website, but I saved the file so if you give me your email addy, I can email it to you!
@skipper2010: We did our gender reveal at Chinese New Year dinner. I stuffed 7 red envelopes with the Chinese words "happy new year" or "wishing you lots of health and prosperity", and in 1 red envelope, I printed the Chinese word for "boy". I let friends and family randomly pick one red envelope each then had them open it all at once.

Here is our current office (future nursery) mocked up! The desk is about the size of the crib just maybe 4" wider. I also have the desk chair where the rocker will be but the rocker is a bit wider. We will only have a bookcase, crib, changing table and end table to start so as to not have too much clutter!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs D: Your office is so much cleaner and neater than ours! lol. I should take a before and after pic too. I also love the colour and want to know if you're keeping it!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Grace: @.twist.: thanks ladies - I dont think we are keeping it...I think I want just a nice neutral cream for the bambino! Especially since DH seems to want to do a disney theme, I'm not sure the burnt orange look will go.
