@Mrs D: I'm throwing a party for my hubby's 30th this weekend and have company staying all weekend so I'm totally only concentrating on that this weekend. I did pop into a local baby boutique today though and saw some amazing diaper bags.
@Mrs D: @redsmarties: cute bumps! You both look amazing!
@Mrs Hedgehog: I'm in northern Michigan.
@StrawberryBee: so sorry your mom isn't being supportive. I was really close with my mom but she died two years ago. I know if she was still alive though, she would be super involved with my pregnancy; she loved babies and would have loved to be a grandma.
We had our second appointment yesterday. Everything went well and we heard a strong heartbeat. Sadly we have to wait until April 5 to have our anatomy scan though! It's going o be a long month!!

Hi Ladies! The "silent bees" thread gave me the push I needed to come and join this board. I have been lurking for awhile, mainly because I have been a little nervous about this pregnancy. I had a mc in September and feel a little on edge. However, I am feeling more at ease lately so would love to join in! I missed the original intro so here we go:
Is this your first baby? Yes!
Any symptoms so far? First trimester was full of nausea but as of 16 weeks I feel better! My nose is always crusty/bloody and my fingernails are beautiful!! If we are being completely honest here, pooping is usually a challenge...
When & how did you find out? Found out at 10 DPO, had implantation bleeding starting at 8DPO and lasted into my 6th week. Took a FRER when I woke up and just had a feeling it would be positive.
What are you most excited for? Meeting baby!
What are you least excited for? Labour although ultimately that results in meeting baby so I guess I'm actually excited for it.
To catch up a little more... Due date Aug 14th. I am in Canada and did the IPS. I am still waiting for my full results after my 16 week bloodwork but the NT numbers looked good. My next u/s is on March 19 at 19 weeks.
Finally, team Grilled Cheese. Yum! Looking forward to getting to know you ladies in the next few months. Sorry for the late join!

@JamieLee: so sorry to hear about your mom. I'm glad you had a good appointment...there's nothing like hearing your baby's heartbeat.
@delight: welcome, we're happy to have you join us! I wish my nails would grow. Even prenatals can't work against my crappy nail genes (super thin and flexible/breakable). Implantation bleeding for that long must have really sent you on an emotional roller coaster. Glad to hear everything's looking good! Have you done any baby shopping yet?

@delight: Congratulations and Welcome! I'm glad you are feeling more at ease! And I feel you on the poo thing...my stepfather (OBGYN) warned me about that from day one so I have been eating Fiber 1 cereal - doesn't make it all better but keeps me from feeling totally "backed up"...
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@StrawberryBee: I have not experienced this with my mother but definitely with others close to me. My sister (the only one in my family with a son) acts very much like she is here to tell me what to do and how to be. She is very interested in the pregnancy but sometimes I feel its insincere to watch for me to fail/falter.
On the other hand, one of my two BFF's has been disappointing so far. When I told her - I got a "congrats". We had dinner shortly after and the baby talk was limited to when I brought it up. Now I am not expecting a parade in me/my babies honor but a little excitement/discussion of this major life event I am going through would be ok.
In other words - I totally get how you feel. I guess we have to just be happy for what we do have and hope that they get their act together before the LO arrives!

@Mrs D: I've Been trying to add lots of extra fiber too, and I've found that kiwis help move things along very well! Thanks for the welcome!
@StrawberryBee: oh man my implantation bleeding was enough to drive me crazy. Luckily I was able to have early scans at 7 & 9 weeks which helped ease my mind after almost 3 weeks of bleeding. I have bought a couple onsies for babe so far but mostly my shopping has been for maternity clothes for me! I'm a little obsessed, I find mat clothes super flattering. I was excited that an H&M near me picked up the mat line!
My best friend is pregnant as well, 3 weeks ahead of me which has been a lot of fun for us. She's finding out the gender on Monday! Even though we are waiting for the surprise I'm excited to live a little vicariously through her and hear what she is having.
Do any of you have a gut feeling about gender? I feel girl, I have no idea why but I've felt that I am cooking a girl the whole time.

@StrawberryBee: Ugh. Sorry you're feeling that way about your mom. Hopefully she comes around as it gets closer to the time for baby to arrive? Have you talked with her about her insincerity? I know my BFF recently told me that she's tired of me talking about it. So, I have to stop being excited about it with someone I really care about. Total Bummer.
@delight: Welcome! The more the merrier!!!
@Mrs D: One of my BFF's has been disappointing also. She told me I talk about it too much. oops....
*waits patiently for @lawbee11 to get back with exciting neeeeews*

@StrawberryBee: My mom doesn't ask about stuff either. I have somehow put out this aloof don't-mess-with-me vibe that prevents her from asking too much or being too involved. I'm not sure what I did, but she'll rarely offer help. I have to ask- which I hate, because I always feel like I'm putting people out!
@JamieLee: We are anotomy scan twins! Mine is that day too.
@delight: Hi! Congratulations and welcome to our little group! That's super fun that you and your friend are so close in due dates! I have two friends that are 6 mo ahead of me and one that is 4 months ahead.
@Mrs D: I never in my life thought I would ever hear an American say that they are practically in Canada. My world has turned totally upsidedown. ;P
DH and I both think baby is a boy. But I'll admit, it's mostly because we're having a hard time with boy names. Girl names are so easy!

@Grace: Glad I could do that for you! Besides I spent most of my summers in Canada and am a HUGE hockey fan - which makes me associate with Canada pretty well!
@lawbee11: YAY!!!! Congrats on the little princess - good luck holding back on the shopping now!

@.twist.: I have when this came up in the past (I've also talked to my sister about how I feel, who in a round about way nudges mom when necessary). The response I get if I go to her directly is "I don't know what you're talking about, I don't understand why you feel that way, it's in your head."
It's been suggested to me by other people that she feels that since I have my life together (my brother is 30 and still financially supported by my mother half the time, and an entitled brat) that I don't need her for anything. But I'd just like to interact with her normally! Especially since she manages to pull it together for my brother and sister. I invite her over for dinner and she has previous plans to go shopping at Kohls (by herself, wtf?) or it's "too far" (but she can drive twice as far to go to her boyfriend's house every other weekend). Pity party for one, please!

@lawbee11: WOOHOO!!!!! BURGERS! Congratulations! How sure were they? I'm so afraid to believe, I'm not sure I'll fully let myself trust in it until she's born ^_^;;. Yay!!

Thanks, y'all! I am so so excited! We already went to Janie and Jack and bought her a sailor dress (I have been dying to shop but wanted to wait til we knew).
@StrawberryBee: The tech was really good and said she was 100% sure it was a girl! We got a DVD...I'll post it to the Facebook group tonight or tomorrow!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Hooray for a little girl! This is so exciting! Now I can't wait to find out even more, haha. I'm so glad that your tech was so positive - that's really reassuring.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@lawbee11: 100% is awesome!! We actually had the same tech for both but she didn't remember us, so I purposefully didn't remind her who we were so that she'd give an unbiased second opinion. Needless to say, still no boy parts discovered lol.
That sailor outfit is so adorable!! Can't wait to see the DVD

Hi everyone! I didn't post in the silent bees thread, but I've been posting elsewhere and figured it's about time I added myself here...
Is this your first baby? Yes!
Any symptoms so far? Ugh, plenty in the first trimester but not so many now. Except a little belly. I only have two friends with babies and neither live near me, but I still can't believe that I didn't know what "morning" sickness was really like until I got pregnant!
When & how did you find out? November 11th--I took a pregnancy test three days after I was supposed to get my period. DH was home too and we waited to find out together, but I saw the positive before leaving the bathroom to wait.
What are you most excited for? The baby? Not anything specific really, just having the baby! But not so much the actual having part if you know what I mean...
What are you least excited for? I'm worried about having issues breastfeeding (though I don't have particular reason for my concern) and I'm definitely scared of what the sleep deprivation will do to me.
We told our immediate families about the baby on Christmas and went public with other people after the 12 week ultrasound. Our 20 week scan is scheduled for April 1st. I want us to find out the sex and not tell anyone else, but I'm not sure if we can do it and I'm leaning team green over finding out and telling... My MIL is very insistent that the grandmas should know!
(Forgot to add that my due date is August 17th!)
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@delight: Congrats and welcome!! My best friend is also pregnant and is due 11 days before me! It's been really fun to go through this together. I didn't really have a gut feeling about gender--it pretty much changed daily!
@chanzi: Welcome! Glad you decided to join our group! You're due the day after me What a cute u/s picture!!

@delight I wonder if that's why I've been on a kiwi kick lately! Funny. I've gone from having no feeling about boy or girl to thinking it's a girl. DH and I have a bet going and he picked girl so I guessed boy to make it interesting, and now he says I'm not allowed to change my mind!
kiwi / 637 posts
@chanzi: Welcome!! I would be very impressed with you if you could find out the gender and then keep it a secret! This is my main reason for not finding out - I wouldn't be able to keep from blabbing and none of our family members want to know!!!
That's a great ultrasound shot!

@lawbee11: awwww I love the dress!!
@chanzi: Yeah! Another newbee!! Your u/s pic is so cute and so clear! I can't wait for my next scan, it is so fun to see the LO! Keep on those kiwis. I swear if I even have just one, it makes all the difference!
I'm not sure if you girls have talked about this yet, I'm still trying to catch up on the many pages of posts... Have you felt movement yet? I though I might have the other day, it was like a little tickle on the inside. It very well could be just an itchy stomach which I have been having lately. I can't wait til I feel something that I know is baby!!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@delight: yep! I have felt a lot of fluttering and bubbles and a few times I've felt some very distinct jabs!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@chanzi: Welcome! Cute scan. I think you'll have to be really strong if you find out and don't tell anyone. I have a friend doing that and people bug her to tell all the time. I think she's enjoying driving them crazy.
@delight: No movement yet. I'm not expecting it until April - I have an anterior placenta, so it might take a while.
I had my first *real* round ligament pain yesterday when I coughed. Oh. My.Gosh. Almost doubled over in pain. Been scared to cough since.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Grace: Oh, I sneezed today and it totally hurt! It always kind of worries me that the baby can feel my pain! Which is silly. hahaha
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Grace: oh man once in awhile I get those pains when I cough/sneeze or blow my nose. They take my breath away!!! If I know it's about to happen I try to lean forward and sometimes hold my tummy. It seems to help
@.twist.: oh you're lucky to be really feeling baby. I bet it's amazing! My sister in law who is also pregnant started feeling movement at 18 weeks so I'm hoping I will soon since I am 16w4d.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@delight: I haven't felt anything yet. Yesterday the tech told me I have an anterior placenta (if you look at the Team Hamburger u/s pic I posted, you can see this white thing that looks kinda like a cloud above the baby--that's my placenta!) so she said I probably won't feel movement for 2-3 more weeks
@Grace: Agreed. Round ligament pain is brutal!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@redsmarties: totally random and not baby related... But I accidentally clicked on your name when trying to get into this thread and saw on your profile "speech therapist"! I am an SLP too!!
@lawbee11: oh thanks for pointing out the AP in your scan. I keep reading about them but wasn't too sure what it exactly meant. I hope you don't have to wait too long to feel a swift kick!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@chanzi: welcome!!! Another thumb sucker? I love how clear the fingers are in your u/s :D.
@delight: another anterior placenta here, so no discernible movement yet. She's a mover, so I expect I'll really feel it when it starts!
kiwi / 597 posts
@delight: I've been feeling movement since about 15 weeks. At first they were few and far between, but I'm starting to feel the flutters more often now. Can't wait to feel kicks!
@Grace: Round ligament pain blows!
Has anyone been waking up at night with charlie horses? This happened to me the past couple of nights. I never knew it happened during pregnancy until I googled it. Man I dread that pain!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@skipper2010: I just had my first charlie horse this week. Oh how I hate those things! I hear that either a glass of milk before bed or eating a banana can help. I go for milk because bananas are apparently not good for pregnancy constipation.
pear / 1812 posts
@chanzi: Welcome! Love seeing new people! And I LOVE the detail in that pic! SO jealous! lol
@delight: I am not sure. Last night I felt a definite pop behind my belly button. Totally different than anything I have ever felt. Haven't felt anything since though so who knows, maybe it was just a gas bubble... but it definitely didn't feel like it. Can't wait to feel something else so I know for sure!
@lawbee11: Are you supposed to be able to see the placenta? I have looked at both sonos over and over and can't see where mine would be and they have never said anything. The only thing I can think is that it is at the feet since that is where it looks like the cord goes... How else can you tell???
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: I have no idea! I only know it's there because the tech pointed it out to me. I definitely can't see anything in my 8w u/s, and I can see something that might be it in my 12w but I'm not sure!

Ladies, I am so excited!!! My sister called me last night and she and her hubby are also expecting - due in October!!! Best part is that her hubby just went through interviews for a job that would move them to our city this summer!!! We would be on mat leave together in the same city (a city where we would otherwise have no family nearby)!
So excited for our LO to have a cousin so close in age!!!
