@redsmarties: ick! Dry skin for me too! My tummy is so itchy lately. I slather on the cream twice a day, but still I'm so dry. Like I said earlier, I won't give up my hot showers!

@skipper2010: yeah hot dog! Little boys love their mamas. I love watching my nephew interact with my SIL. He adores her and she gets lots of cuddles from her little man.

@Ocean girl: I think hearing baby's HB for the first time was my fav pregnancy moment so far. I taped it on my phone so i can keep listening. It's so wonderful hearing that quick beat!

@redsmarties: My skin has always been dry, but omg! The random INTENSE itchiness gets to me sometimes. Mostly it’s on my boobs too! So weird. And I totally love the symbolism behind your baby’s name!!

@Ocean girl: Yay for hearing the baby’s heartbeat! Good and strong – yay!!!

@skipper2010: Yay for another team hot dog! *high five* haha!

@andrea86: I have started looking at diaper bags online, and have seen a couple I like as far as style and color goes, but I really prefer to see them in person in fear of night liking it or it’s not a good size for me. I'll need to stop by a store one day and actually look look.

@Grace: baby was super active during US so I'm guessing s/he was flip floppy again!! Such a great feeling once we heard it!

@delight: such a good idea!! Next time I'm doing this for sure!

@Alivoo01: my boobs are also SO itchy!!! I nearly scratched off a mole last week!!

@Ocean girl: I wonder what makes them so darn itchy?! Bc it's not like a quick itch and it goes away. Like you said, I'd be scratching so hard and fast for awhile that you'd think there were ants or poison ivy on me or something!

@andrea86: I haven't really looked at diaper bags yet, but I am thinking I will go for something that resembles a black messenger bag so DH feels comfortable lugging it around by himself when I'm not around. Plus all of our baby gear is going to be black, so it will go.

@redsmarties: SUCH dry skin! I thought it was just my normal dryness but it has been SO much worse this winter with the pregnancy! I have been trying to avoid long showers (as someone else said hot water is not good for it) and using lots of lotion!

@andrea86: I have been wavering between coach and Vera Bradley. It seems most people dont think the Coach ones are big enough - which concerns me. I also like the price of the VB ones much better. DH and I are definitely doing separate bags (after an incident this weekend it was determined) so I am no longer worried about him not liking the pattern I pick! I am currently leaning towards the Make a Change Baby Bag in Limes Up: http://www.verabradley.com/product/Category/Mom-and-Baby/Make-a-Change-Baby-Bag/1001745/defaultColorVariantId/177058/pc/638/c/0/sc/643/p/1001745.uts

    I just got a $25 coupon too...which is awesome!

@redsmarties: I love the name you picked and the reason. I'm not religious at all, but that is truly touching and the name is perfect. (I also really like Piper for a girl!)

@Ocean girl: Yay for hearing the heart beat!!!! I only got to hear mine for the first time at my last appointment, she had trouble finding it too, but when she did it was wonderful!

@skipper2010: YAY! Another for Team Hotdog! CONGRATS!!!! This is becoming really even! hahaha. We have equal # hot dogs and equal # hamies. WHO WILL TIP THE SCALES?

@Grace: What your friends doctor said is quite a relief, I wake up every morning concerned! hahaha.

@andrea86: I've looked at a few bags in the stores but haven't actually figured out which one I want yet. I just know I want something super functional that does NOT look like a diaper bag. Also, possibly something that my husband would not be embarrassed to walk around with. hahaha

@Alivoo01: hahaha! itchy boobs are the WORST. Especially when you're at work and someone is trying to talk to you. haha

@andrea86: we have decided on the Lug Tuk Tuk bag. I love the Lug overnight bags and my DH said that he felt comfortable carrying around the Tuk Tuk. I've attached a picture of the grey which we will likely get but it comes in tons of bright colors. It has lots of pockets and a drawstring diaper bag and change mat inside.

@andrea86: I'm leaning toward the Petunia Pickle Bottom Carryall in Daydreaming in Dax. I love bright colors and always carry a colorful purse. I haven't had a black or brown purse in years. I checked this brand out at our local expensive baby boutique and fell in love. The fabric is "glazed" so it's coated in a water resistant substance so it wipes off easily. It also comes with the softest, padded changing pad. I plan to cloth diaper, and I'm told you need a larger bag, but it's not too huge!

I love the Petunia bags- so, so cute. That's on my list, as well as one of the Skip Hop bags which are also great! I want to look for one that comes with stroller straps so that I'm not constantly lugging it around. When we find out gender, I can really stet shopping!

Crazy pregnant lady here just spent her lunch hour making a freezer meal plan to freeze 46 meals between July/Mid august so I dont have to fret over food the first 3 months home with LO. I planned stuff for lunch and dinner so I have options and am not stuck with just cereal for breakfast and lunch! I have issues - but good planning (and my trusty excel spreadsheets) are what keep me sane!

Also - I should be finishing my meal planning bulletin board this weekend...such a geek that organization gets me so excited!

@delight: I've had a resurgence of sickness this week too! I was down to getting sick every 3 or 4 days, but now it's every day again… I'm going to try moving my vitamin consumption back to right before bed, which is what I was doing before. Maybe trying to take it with food during the day was a bad idea!

@Alivoo01: I'm usually a side sleeper but I'm also waking up to find myself on my back fairly often now. My guess is that I'm uncomfortable from needing to pee, and that I wake up on my back because I'm trying to get comfortable in different positions (and maybe being on my back creates enough pressure on my bladder to wake me up?). I don't really know though, I'm totally making that up. I've also heard it's not really a problem at this point so I'm trying not to worry about it.

@Andrea86: I'm going to use a zippered tote bag that I already own. It's a good size and has some pockets built in, so I'll see how it goes. I'd love to buy a new bag but it's not that high on my list of priorities, plus it's hard to find one that I like and DH would also be willing to carry. I was surprised he suggested my current bag (it's gray and relatively unisex looking, but still a tote bag!), but then again he loves saving money. If it doesn't work out with my current bag, then at that point I'll have some experience to help me figure out what I really need in a diaper bag when I look for a new one.

Anyone else have this happen to them? This morning I woke up to my alarm and a very full bladder... Before I sat up, I felt my little bump and it was like it had exploded overnight! And SO solid... DH felt it and agreed that I went from hardly showing to massive in the 8 hrs I was asleep. After I peed it went away almost completely so I'm guessing my bladder was just pushing my uterus up and out... Which means that I'll likely pop soon because there can't be much more room in there!

Next appointments for me are April 4th for Ultrasound and April 5th for monthly pre-natal visit with my GP. Woo!!

@Ocean girl: Its kind of amazing how much my belly grows after I eat, or when I really have to pee. Things are being pushed out like crazy, and my belly gets HARD! Its kind of exciting!!
@Mrs D: I would agree and say that you're crazy, except for the fact that I think your organization is AWESOME.

@Mrs D: That is such a good idea! I definitely need to freeze meals over the summer. You should share your plan and give us some yummy ideas

@Ocean girl: This was happening to me for the last few weeks. This week my bump never disappears but if I have to pee or have just eaten it is more noticeable.

@chanzi: I hope your nausea goes away soon. Vitamins at night are definitely helping for me. Now if only the exhaustion went away! Or is that here to stay?!

Ok - I need you guys input...I have a co-worker who offered me a great deal on some misc baby stuff from her daughter (2 yo). She is a meticulously clean person so I have no issues about the condition of any of it. Basically she has the following: pack n play, swing, baby carrier, an infant car seat and two bases - all of this for $110. I dont think any of it will be used in our home - but I thought I'd leave the pack n play and swing at our cottage (for ease of travel) and give a base to each of my parents so transfers are easier.

At any rate - that price for all that stuff seems like a no brainer and I should just get it even for back-ups and convenience. What do you guys think?

  26. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Mrs D: I think that since you have a plan for the extra items, that it's a good idea. I certainly wouldn't get it as a just-in-case though.

@Ocean girl: Yeah, mine gets bigger and smaller at different times. It's definitely not what I expected a bump to do.

Mmmm, bags. I like bags. I haven't bought anything for Baby yet. I'm a little afraid that once I do, it will open the floodgates and I'll be unstoppable! So I'm trying to hold off.

Had my appt yesterday and FINALLY heard the heartbeat. It was ridiculous actually, because last time, she searched and searched with no luck. This time, she puts the wand down in one spot and there's the baby. Geez. And then I wanted to show DH the heartbeat with the home doppler and we couldn't find it! Sigh.

  27. JamieLee

    clementine / 930 posts

@Mrs D: I think having stuff at your cottage is a great idea. I don't know if you have a big car, but with all the other stuff baby will need in addition to your and hubby's stuff, you're going to have a lot to transport. I'm hoping to have a pack and play, stroller, high chair, and swing our bouncy seat at my dad's house. We also have a big dog so we need as much space as we can get when traveling. I say go for it!

@delight: I actually love that color of grey! Its so pretty!!

@lawbee11: I ordered a Danzo bag, but got the Hobo and it is WAY to big for me. I probably should have gone with one of their smaller bags!

@JamieLee: I'm thinking about the PPB bags now too! Funny, because thats what I originally wanted, but there are so many cool bags out there I keep changing my mind!! I'm hoping an outlet sale comes up soon so I can get one cheaper!

  29. JamieLee

@andrea86: I was reading that the outlet sales are in january and June/July. I also heard they occasionally show up on Gilt, Zulily, Rue La La, or Nordstrom Rack, so I plan to be keeping an eye out on those!

So I had a job interview today that I think went well. Job searching while pregnant is like a whole 'nother ball game! I don't know what to tell them about the pregnancy. Everyone I talked to, including people in HR said not to tell until they're ready to make an offer, so I haven't, but I feel dishonest! This was my second interview, and they said they'll let me know either way at the start of next week. So now I'm starting to worry about daycare! It'd not something I thought I was going to have to worry about at this time. We originally planned to send a future child to the home daycare that is run by our good friends mom, where all our friends kiddos go. But she can't have two infants and another mom with an older kid there is due any day now. So I'm back at square one.

For those of you who are starting to think about this, are you thinking center or home? I'm also conflicted on whether to pick close to my home or my work. My hubby works closer to our home (30 minutes from where id work) so that would be easier if he had to pick up. So many decisions! I'm also finding a lot of centers that only take kids over 1...

I guess I don't have to worry about it yet though...I'll know at the start of next week!

So I'll probably never catch up on everything, but from what I've been browsing...

    1) I totally agree, itchy boobs are a B. I'm coating mine in Aquaphor and trying (failing) not to look like I'm molesting myself in public.

    2) Y'all have picked out some seriously cute diaper bags. I haven't started looking yet, but I just convinced DH that we should each have our own. I think the idea of having to carry something purple and polka-dotted frightened him!

    3) Congrats to everyone who found out about baby's gender! I'm sure you're PUMPED even more now!

Question: is anyone here planning to be a SAHM for a while after baby comes?

  32. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@JamieLee: Congrats on the good interview. I agree though, don't tell them yet. It might subconsciously cloud their opinion of you and you want to be able to show them how wonderful you are and how they can't live without you, even if you will be taking a mat leave.

I'm aiming for a centre, but spaces are so limited that I'll just be taking whatever I can find.

I'm on my phone, I'll have to catch up tomorrow! I wanted to update on my appt today. Dr was a half hour behind, heard heartbeat (140) I think it's a boy :). Scheduled our anatomy scan for 3/28!

So - we went to our first day care tour yesterday. I have to be honest, I was terrified. I had heard horror stories in my mind about these places and was so afraid it would feel overwhelmingly institutional. What a relief that it was totally fine. Both DH and I walked out feeling good about this location (a large chain day care) and said it would stay on the list.

We are planning to view two more locations (another location of the same chain and a local church which is VERY close to our house). At that point we'll decide if we want to continue looking or pick one. Feels good to get this ball rolling.

AND you ladies have officially turned me on to the Danzo bags. UGH! I was so stoked to be all about my $100 VB diaper bag and now I am swooning over the $300 Danzo San Ysidro bag! I need to find a deal!

@JamieLee: Yay for a good interview, and you got a second interview sounds even more promising! I agree you shouldn’t announce your pregnancy until they make you an offer. While it’s illegal to discriminate you for that, it happens because they’re thinking about “the long run”. As for daycare, we’re currently looking at centers and montessori’s. I haven’t found any in home cares yet, and the cost for a nanny is ridiculous!! And we’re looking at places near our home since the hubby and I both work 45 minutes away in opposite directions from work. It’d work out better for pickup and drop off, for us.

@msmay: I’d love to be a SAHM!! But the hubby said no because we have health benefits through me since he’s self-employed. Self-employed insurance is crazy expensive, and with a newborn, oh man!! Plus, hubby said he rather be the SAH parent since he loved being a SAH husband years ago. Haha!

@StbHisMrs: Yay for a good dr appointment and hearing the baby’s heartbeat!

@Grace: Like @Mrs D:, I’ve always had vivid, crazy dreams so that’s nothing new for me. My nightmares usually compromise of what I’m worrying at the moment and it finds its way to play out in my dreams. Boo!

As for diaper bags, I’m looking at some Skip Hop ones online. I hope to check them out in person. Has anyone seen/handled the Skip Hop diaper bags or heard of any personal reviews for them?

@Alivoo01: I saw the Jonathan Adler Duo bag and it is very cute, but I had just handled the Petunia Pickle Bottom bags, so it seemed lower quality in comparison, I'm sure if I hadn't been playing with the bag I'm now obsessed with, I would have liked it. I have read reviews though that the Duo is too small, but they have others...
