@redsmarties: I crave sushi all the time. I start out with a few pieces of cooked sushi (because it makes me feel like it’s a little buffer and I feel better about it – ha!), then I eat a few pieces of sashimi (about 6 or so), then back to cooked sushi. I can’t stay away from sushi!!
@delight: Veggies haven’t been really appetizing for me either (especially raw veggies), and I’m normally a veggie fan!!
@JamieLee: Raw veggies and steak! I used to LOVE steak, now it just doesn't sound appetizing at all. Sad face.

@JamieLee: Ugh, I also can't stand oatmeal! I wasn't a huge fan of it pre-pregnancy either.
I want sushi more than I can express. We order from a chinese/japanese restaurant and DH always gets sushi and I am stuck with chinese - which I do love, don't get me wrong, but what I REALLY want is DH's sushi. I might just break down and have some soon, I can't take this much longer!

I had a little bit of a scare on Sunday and I want to share it with the group because I'm hoping it might help calm someone else going through the same thing. (prepare for TMI).
After BD'ing with DH, I had some bleeding. Actually the first thing I noticed was a lot of dried blood. I had light pink spotting for about an hour or so afterwards, I was checking like a madwoman. I called my Dr. and he said he didn't think I needed to go to the ER, but to call his office the next day (monday) to schedule an ultrasound. So I went in yesterday with DH in tow and thankfully everything with the baby was totally fine. I can't tell you how good it felt to see that little heart beating. Then the ultrasound Dr. actually told us that bleeding during BD'ing is completely normal during pregnancy since the cervix is a lot more sensitive. As long as it isn't accompanied by cramps or heavy bleeding of course.
A lot of you might have known this already, but DH and I did not. None of our baby books mention this at all. All they say is that BDing is safe unless your Dr. tells you otherwise. Of course you should still call your Dr. and take necessary precautions if you notice any bleeding, but I'm hoping that hearing this is helpful to some of you!

@JamieLee: Thanks! It was a lot of fun. It's a historical house in our city (one of the last). LOVE your baby boards, that tree trunk wall paper/fabric/whatever it is in the boys room is amazing!!!!
@greenebee: Love your blue shoes!!! I have been craving carbs pretty much throughout the pregnancy. Only lately have I really been craving fruits. Although I found that I seem to be allergic to apples at the moment. My lips swells up and itch and hurt! So bizarre. Never use to happen before pregnancy.
@redsmarties: Yay to an assembled crib!!! I wish our baby's room was even cleared out enough to put a crib into it! Currently still functioning as an office. So jealous of you ladies who've made progress on the nursery! Also, mmmm to a strawberry, mango and spinach salad with a vinegarette dressing! I had one at my moms Sunday night for dinner. So delicious!
@Mrs D: Thanks! It was an amazing venue. I can't wait to hear if you have a little hamburger or hotdog!!! We have been staying quite even in the boy vs. girl ratio!
@JamieLee: Veggies were a big aversion for a while but have gotten a lot better. Currently I don't feel there's anything out of the ordinary that I'm not liking! Maybe most meat, although I've never been a big meat eater.
@Modern Daisy: Oh that would be totally scary!!! So sorry you had to go through that. It happened to us earlier on in my pregnancy so I had found out about it earlier in the first trimester (which was also insanely scary!!). Just totally not a fun situation to be in. So glad to hear everything with bebe is fine!

@Modern Daisy: I too had this happen earlier in my pregnancy (say 8-10 weeks). Each time, I called my step father and he said to just not BD for a few days. I have not had this happen for some time - however, I did notice the other day that when we tried a new (bump friendly) position where DH had a batter "angle" that perhaps it may have agitated my cervix and had some mild spotting.

@Mrs Hedgehog: Congrats on your 3D U/S, and on another hamburger!!
@sarbear: one of each is so cool, congrats!
@Grace: aww, I'm sure everything is fine, but understand your irritation over having those results. I'm not even sure if I had that test done (I am oblivious to what my drs are doing, obviously). *hugs*
@JamieLee: I puffy heart your inspiration boards. Is the rocking moose from Ikea? It looks like the same design, except ours is available in red. I have that same chevron girl nursery pinned to my wall ^_^.
@greenebee: good luck at your anatomy scan today! Oh, and fruit as well. Definitely fruit. Tons of it. I really don't have any aversions (except I guess chicken's not really doing it for me). Veggies are fine.
Well girls, I had my first major hormonal pregnancy blow up at DH last night. I feel a bit bad about it, because when I got home he was doing laundry and had done some shopping for essentials. But when I went to go move a load of laundry from the washer to the dryer (we have zero room, and the utility room is off of the kitchen so we end up with piles of dirty laundry on the kitchen floor) I had to angle my bump around this stupid laundry basket of clothes that has been sitting in the kitchen for the past TWO MONTHS from DH cleaning some stuff out of his parents' house. I got frustrated and tried to move it and ended up sending all my recipe sheets on the floor behind the dryer.
Then I tried to eat a bowl of cereal for dinner (yes, this is what I've been reduced to) and ended up knocking some crap he had by the computer desk on the floor because he DOESN'T PUT ANYTHING AWAY. Cue angry face. He gets up and just leaves -- doesn't say anything. So I go hunt him down, and he's lying in bed playing with his iphone. I end up crying to him about how I feel so clumsy and unable to do anything any more (cook dinner because I have no energy, can't carry the vacuum because it's too heavy, can't clean out the cat box and have to wait four days for him to get around to it because he despises it). He doesn't say anything to me, but is rubbing my back. And then I lift my head up and notice that he's still playing with his @*#&$# phone! So I got angry all over again and stormed out of the bedroom.
We basically made up this morning because I hate being angry at him, but grrr! Sorry for the novel, I just had to vent.

@StrawberryBee: Aw! Darn pregnancy hormones!! It happens, and your hubby seems to understand. Doesn't help the fact he doesn't put stuff up (my hubby is the same way), but he's helping around the house at least!
Have any of you ladies have issues with low blood sugar? There's been a few incidents where I texted the hubby that I'm thinking about going home from work because I just feel awful. Each time, he's told me to eat some chocolate or just eat in general because it might be my blood sugar. Lo and behold, after a quick snack, I feel lots better. I'm never hungry so I don't know to eat, but he said blood sugar isn't associated with hunger so I'm trying to figure out how I can better monitor my blood sugar level. I know you can do the finger prick and all that non-fun stuff, but I'm trying to find an alternative way to keep an eye on it.

@StrawberryBee: Aw! That is frustrating. Glad to hear you made up though! I've definitely had hormonal meltdowns but they've been because of other people.
OH, and ladies, while I was laying in the tub last night I saw my stomach pop. Yep! baby boy kicked me and I totally SAW it. Most bizarre and amazing thing ever.

@Alivoo01: Can you just make sure to consciously make an effort to snack more often?
cherry / 189 posts
@Alivoo01: I definitely noticed that for myself! Definitely bring more than you think for snacks each day with you. I'll stock up with a whole bunch of grapes, or an extra granola bar and it definitely helps the tiredness. Also, if you aren't a snacker, maybe a reminder in your phone every couple of hours to prompt you to snack!
kiwi / 597 posts
@Modern Daisy: Yikes! Glad everything is fine! That would have scared me too. It's funny how we never truly stop worrying...
@StrawberryBee: Gotta love pregnancy hormones! If it makes you feel better I would have been irritated too! The littlest things set me off sometimes. I blame the extra testosterone from my little man.
@Alivoo01: I agree with the advice you've already gotten. Try snacking more frequently to prevent blood sugar drops. I would try having protein with your snacks as well. Graham crackers and peanut butter, fruit with cheese, some trail mix...etc
So I'm just hanging out at 21 weeks and realized that means I only have 19 weeks to go!! It's crazy to me that the countdown is already in the teens! It's amazing how far we've all already come!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Alivoo01: I know, I really can't complain! I was more frustrated with my inability to do anything without causing chaos. Then I was just plain mad at being ignored.
Going along with eating a lot of fruit, I haven't had an issue with blood sugar ;). That and my sweet tooth. Maybe have an open container of granola or raisins by your desk so that you can snack?
@.twist.: Thanks, and oh how cool! I've definitely been feeling a lot of movement. Friday night and Saturday night it was so weird...she actually PUSHED against my stomach and I could feel my skin stretch.
@skipper2010: Thanks! I know, 21 weeks for me on Friday...so crazy!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Alivoo01: I have had this issue, my doctor actually brought it up because at my last two blood tests my sugar was 50 and 60 after eating. My doctor said more snacks and more protein. My sister, a pharm rep, said that not working out can cause your body not to manage sugar properly too!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@greenebee: That's brilliant - alarm reminder. Thanks!!
@skipper2010: Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to the grocery store tonight so I'll pick up some protein filled snacks!
@Mrs D: Oh, working out. Guess I need to start working that in too....

@Alivoo01: Ya...when she told me that I was like "ya---cough cough---maybe thats it"...whoops!
So my friend just texted me, her DD will be 1 in June, she is expecting #2 Oct 5th....CRAY CRAY!
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: it is the Ikea moose. I photoshopped it brown since I p,an to paint it. I'm kind of a freak and must have proper colors in my inspiration boards. Red just wouldn't go with my color scheme.

@JamieLee: lol! I'm such an ikea nerd ;). I understand completely
clementine / 930 posts
My MIL is crazy!
She came over tonight to get a head count for the shower...that will be in June...at her house...not catered or anything. Then I showed her the registry I started and every other thing was something she told me I don't need or she didn't use or costs too much. She said we don't need a bathtub, washcloths, towels, a stroller, a diaper pail, etc. and the car seat is too expensive...it's a Chicco, not a Peg Perego...I'm just frustrated. She hasn't had a baby since the mid 1980s...she didn't even have a car seat when DH was a baby. Times have changed.
Anyone else getting grief for their choices?
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@JamieLee: I'm getting a lot of "oh you wont need that" opinions from my experienced Mom friends and my sister. I counter it with "well I'd rather have it and not need it than be a crazed mother of a two week old who wanted to save $20 and now is miserable". I also have found that people are protective of their choices for some items - one friend of mine lectured me on my stroller choice bc it was not the same brand as her - I was like "look, I have my reasons like you have yours".
Unfortunately, I think the unwanted advice is only going to get worse before it gets better!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@JamieLee: @Mrs D: Oh dear. If I ever get around to a registry, maybe I'll just have to keep it secret. Although, it occures to me that an easy response might be "you may be right - but I want it!" Although, it would be seriously annoying. I'll have to see if I can practise what I preach...
clementine / 930 posts
@Mrs D: agreed. I was texting with my best bud who has a one year old and came to the consensus that people mean well when they give advice, and it's just going to keep coming, so I just have to learn to brush it off. My MIL is just so different from me in terms of values and what's important that it feels like she's attacking my views...I'm sure it's not helped by pregnancy hormones.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Grace: The most common one I get is "you dont need a bouncer and a swing - its too much and they wont use them both"...I'm like "well ok - but better to have both and not need one then guess that my kid will like the swing and then end up with a bouncer baby who cant be soothed!!!"
I think new/first time moms are allowed to be a little frivolous for convenience!
The only good thing is when my sister comes at me with "we have that and never used it one" I come back with "great - I'd like to borrow your never used one!" This happened with her k'tan carrier and her bumbo - two free items!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@JamieLee: Ya - my MIL totally attacks our opinions and values. She is SOOOO stubborn. Thankfully DH has been very clear with her that she is to share her opinions directly with him when she has them unless I specifically request them (which I know better than to do).
She went off on DH that we were not delivering at the hospital he was born at - DH knew no better so he came home and asked me "why are we not delivering there" and implied that maybe we should. I told him no, that I like my doctors practice and would never consider changing especially not after already being pregnant. He apparently explained this to his mother and she has not said a word to me about it thankfully. I'm lucky I have him as a buffer because with our personalities her and I could really get into it!

you guys...they are killing me here in Europe! They make me take dessert at lunch every day (insisting that they are Hungarian traditional desserts I must try) and at 4pm ever day they insist that I have a sweet and we discuss how the work has gone for the day. I appreciate there hospitality but working 8am-8:30pm has left me no time to workout here and I am terrified of getting on the scale back at home!
Right before I left I received my three workout DVDs in the mail - when I get back I think I have to workout 7 times a week (3 videos a week and 4 cardio - walking - sessions). UGH! I was so good for 5 weeks and now I feel like its going down hill! Not to mention my first tri explosion did not help!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Mrs D: Are you walking much over there? All the walking might balance the sweets! Don't sweat it too much and just enjoy the food/culture. Don't need to be stressing the baby out, I'm sure s/he is enjoying them as well. I mean, who doesn't like dessert right?! =)
I've started a registry, but haven't shared it with anyone. I'm sure someone will comment on it because that's how people are, but if they have a comment about how I won't use/need X or Y, then don't buy it for me. I'm sure someone else will or I will get it myself. The list is for ME, not for you! Thanks!

@Alivoo01: I walked a TON Sunday (sightseeing) and a decent amount Monday during our plant tour (huge facility and we walked it a few times) but not Tues/Weds. Tonight I am hoping we will be done early and can stop at a baby store here so I can buy a souvenier or two for LO! Also, may cruise the streets a bit tonight if it is not too cold! Tomorrow I will walk a bunch - but still I feel I am eating too much! The scale will tell Sunday morning!
You guys - I just have to brag for a second. When I talked to DH over IM last night (your afternoon) he told me my dad had come to the house and was currently painting the nursery!!! How awesome is he?!! I bought all the paint last weekend before leaving so DH could try to do some - but told my dad Monday it was not looking likely because DH has two clients with court this week so he was busy prepping them! This baby has the best Papa in the world! (biased clearly - I'm sure all your dads are equally awesome) I so appreciate his helpfulness!!!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Mrs D: That sounds like a great amount of walking, I still think you're more than fine! =)
As for the baby's Papa, aw....... That's so sweet of him. Spoiled already! haha!

So I'm at the Fetal Assessment. Met with the genetics counsellor (who was AWESOME) and explained everything. We were given odds of 1/237 for our baby having Down's Syndrome. And 1/250 is the cut-off. So if we had scored 13 poings higher we would have had a negative. I feel soooooo much better. 1/237 is a 0.4% chance. That's super low. Then they brought us in for an US and it's super cool because it's done by a nurse (not a tech) and hubby was allowed to come in and she answered anything we asked. Now the only bad thing is that the doctor comes in to check some stuff and he's backed up. So I'm in here waiting on the dr (for 40 minutes so far) and I have to peeeeeeeeeee!

@Grace: So glad to hear it is going well and you are feeling better! Hopefully that Dr gets in there soon before your bladder explodes!
clementine / 930 posts
@Grace: that's amazing news! 0.4% should not be considered a positive. Are they trying to give pregnant ladies anxiety attacks? Glad the nurse was able to answer your questions and I hope the doctor came in to see you in time!

@Grace: Great odds! and oh no, I know how that uncomfortable that I GOTTA PEE feeling is. Hope the dr has seen you now.

@.twist.: that's so cool that you saw movement! I felt a really cool roll or somersault yesterday. It was so neat. I'm hoping I can start to feel movements from the outside soon so hubby can feel it too.
@skipper2010: it is amazing that we are more than half way there! I can't believe it sometimes that this summer we all get to welcome a baby into our lives!
@JamieLee: I don't get a lot of grief for choices but I have people constantly telling me that they will give me all their old stuff. Totally cool, and I appreciate it, but I also want to get some new stuff for the baby. I love hand me downs but I also want to pick things out. This makes me sound really selfish I know.
@Mrs D: Enjoy the sweets while you are in Europe! It sounds like you are busy, but glad you can get a walk in here and there. Which DVDs did you get? Pregnancy ones? I'm such a slacker when it comes to working out its horrible. The sun is finally shining and I hear the birds so I'm going to go for a walk today. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Europe and safe trip back!
@Grace: Great results you must feel so much better!
As for me, I had my follow up appointment with my doctor this week after last week's anatomy scan. Everything looks great but they weren't able to get all the heart pictures. My doctor wasn't concerned and isn't sending me back for another scan. Is that strange? He said once I start seeing an OB next month she might look at my chart and send me for another scan but for now everything looks ok. It's the heart though! Isn't that an important thing to be able to see!? I guess I'll just not think about it for now. I put on almost 11 pounds in the last 5 weeks which slightly scares me. But I had lost 9 pounds during the first few months so I guess that's ok.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend and Happy Easter!

@delight: I also have people telling me they plan on giving me their hand me downs. In fact I've had a couple people tell me they have TOTES to give me. I'm grateful for their generosity, but at the same time it's a little overwhelming. I did get some maternity clothes hand me downs though which was awesome!
About your anatomy scan. You said they weren't able to get all the heart pictures, but maybe they felt comfortable enough with the ones they got. I'm sure if they need more they won't hesitate to send you for another scan.

hi ladies! i haven't been reading this board yet, but i thought i should join as i'm expecting in august, too! can't believe it's almost half over!! here is my intro thingamajig:
Name: Sonja
Is this your first baby? no, i have a 10 month old son right now.
Any symptoms so far? i just finished morning sickness, thank god.
When & how did you find out? i suspected over christmas but decided to put off finding out as long as i could -- no reason really, i just wanted this pregnancy to feel 'shorter'! i finally took a test and found out i was around 8-9 weeks
What are you most excited for? meeting the baby! finding out if we are having another boy, or a girly!
What are you least excited for? breastfeeding troubles.... had a lot of them with ds. believing for a different experience this time!
my due date is aug 29, so i expect to be congratulating most of you first, while i watch on with my giant belly!

@tysonja: Welcome and congrats!! Hooray for another late-august edd lol! We can learn from the others and cheer everyone on while we wait for our LO's to arrive
So my appointment went well this morning, just a routine checkup and 2nd tri bloodwork. And OMG the Dr. was able to see the sex and he wrote it down on a piece of paper for us!!! He said he was 90% sure he is correct. I go in for my anatomy scan this wednesday, but I think I might have a gender reveal cake made this weekend because I just can't wait - and 90% sure is good enough for me lol!
nectarine / 2217 posts
@Modern Daisy: ahhh!! i can't believe you have it written down and are not peeking! hehe congrats!
clementine / 930 posts
@delight: I don't think that makes you sound selfish. We haven't gotten a lot of offers for hand me downs yet, but I think we will once we know the gender. My best friend from college is letting us use their extra car seat base and sure if we don't get an exersaucer or jumparoo or something like that, she will lend us whatever we need. A lot of my college friends have only just had their first babies and aren't done yet, so it would mainly be lending now. The friends we have around here though are mainly done so I imagine we might get some stuff from them. I don't mind hand me downs for some stuff but I do want new for certain things like the carseat, crib bedding, etc.
@tysonja: welcome to the group!
@Modern Daisy: yay for an early gender reveal! I want to do a cake too but I cannot figure out the timing. We have out appt on Friday at 3, and I'm sure our families will want to know that night or the next day. I don't know what kind of lead time bakeries need to make a cake but I'm sure it's more than a few hours! I was thinking instead of having a party store put pink or blue helium balloons in a box that we could then open with our families. Speaking of not peaking at the gender, my friend waited three weeks to open hers till her whole family could be together! I don't know how she did it.
