@delight: I got some hand me downs and totally regret it. My SIL had her friend send me all the maternity clothes she had given her. I appreciate the gesture but of the two boxes she sent there were maybe 3 items I'd use! Now I have to find a way to get rid of them! As for baby stuff - I'd appreciate the offers but probably be more inclined to use mostly new stuff!

@tysonja: Welcome! Its great to have another late August mama to hang out with until the end!

@Modern Daisy: Seriously how have you not opened that envelope?!

@JamieLee: @Mrs D: thanks! i didn't join a due date group for the first baby, so i'm excited to have a group to chat with for this one!

i totally appreciated all the hand me downs i got too, but we have VERY limited storage space (ok, practically none) so i ended up donating or giving back a LOT of stuff... i only kept things i really loved and knew would get used. i felt bad, too!
the worst was my sweet mom brought over two GIANT suitcases when lo was born -- (she flew across the country) filled with hand me downs and thrift store clothing -- so sweet... and yet... unfortunately many of the clothes were not suitable plus since lo was our first, we already had a lot of new stuff given to us as gifts :). when she flew home, i had to take many of them back to the thrift store for donation after all. alas!

@delight: I bought the following DVDs 1) Summer Sanders prenatal workout 2) Yoga Pregnancy: Pre and Post Natal Workouts
Heather Seiniger 3) Suzanne Bowen's Long and Lean Prenatal Workout $30 for all three off amazon! I plan to do each DVD this week to see which ones I like and supplement with either walking on the treadmill or walking outside for 30 mins minimum 3 times a week also.

#1 & #3 are an hour-ish long, #2 is only 30 mins. I think my realistic approach will be to do 2 walking sessions and 2 times of video #2 during the work week. Then do a longer video and a longer walk on the weekends. This way during the week I only need to find 30 mins and will save the long workouts for the weekends.

I haven't weighed myself (since I was traveling this week) but starting Monday my plan is 6 workouts a week. Before I left, I was up 13lbs from where I think I was pre-pg (at 17.5 weeks) - I am not ok with this. My goal for the whole PG was 30lbs (I wont throw a fit for 35). Even still, what bothers me most is not my belly but the love handles I gained in weeks 6-10 when all I could do was eat carbs. If I could shrink those a bit I could get over the number and be happy with how I look. I'd really like to get out of Tri #2 at a weight gain of 20lbs but I suppose I'll settle for 25lbs...

@StrawberryBee: My dh has started calling me his temporarily psycho wife, nice huh. I've had my fair share of breakdowns, mostly due to him being inconsiderate and dumb I think we're allowed.
@JamieLee: The great thing about registering and or buying too much is there such a high demand you can easily sell it, and sometimes even make a profit. You live and you learn! Being this is my third (11 and 18 mo.) I'm not registering for anything, and not having a shower But I have a list of wants/needs and a list of what we didn't use with Maddy. Who care what others think as long as you and your baby are happy!! I have the Mamaroo on my list and dh rolled his eyes when he saw the price!

@Mrs D: I'm jealous of all the yummy desserts and your response to other Mom's is priceless! We had both a swing and bouncer, and used both!

We had our anatomy scan yesterday and both the tech and my OB are positive we're having a girl, I was certain we were having a boy!
She was being pretty stubborn laying transverse and wouldn't roll over for the right angle of her heart, finally after 20 minutes they got it. Everything with baby is great, I however had regular contractions through the entirety. That caused a red flag, along with my 1st being delivered at 35 weeks and the PTL I had starting at 24 weeks with Maddy. My u/s results are being reviewed by a Perinatologist, I will hear those results on April 25th. Crossing my fingers for no bedrest. I hadn't said anything about the contractions because they don't hurt, I feel like I acted to quickly last time so I was going to keep these to myself. Ha. I got a lecture from dh for not telling him, I really don't want to have PTL again...

@Modern Daisy: Ugh, so sorry about the scare. I would have freaked out. Glad everything is fine with the baby! Oh and you have a ridic amount of willpower...I would have opened that envelope by now!!

@StrawberryBee: Hormonal pregnancy blow ups are no fun I haven't had one recently, but I have definitely noticed that my mood changes at the drop of a hat. At least I'm not alone!

@.twist.: That is so cool that you saw your belly pop as baby boy was moving! I am definitely feeling our baby girl more, but haven't seen any movement in my belly.

@JamieLee: Ugh that is really annoying about your MIL and her opinions on what you need. You don't need a bathtub or washcloths? What?! I haven't gotten any grief for my choices...hopefully it stays that way.

@Mrs D: Haha that's awesome that you got a couple of free items! Serves her right And how sweet is your dad for painting the nursery while you're away?!

@Grace: So glad you got good news at your fetal assessment. Those are really good odds!

@tysonja: Congrats and welcome!! Glad to see our group is still growing

@StbHisMrs: SO excited to have you on Team Hamburger! Glad everything with the baby looks good! I'm crossing my fingers for no bedrest for you!

I am officially 20 weeks and halfway through this pregnancy! It's crazy how slowly the first trimester went and how quickly the second is going. This baby has been really good to me, and if the second half is as easy as the first then I will consider myself very, very lucky.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

@Modern Daisy: How are you not opening the envelope? Eeeek! We are Team Green, but I was really trying to take a little peak during the anatomy scan although I know I would have regretted it!

@skipper2010: Thanks for the reassurance. I am sure if there was any suspicion of a problem, they would make me have another scan. It's funny cause last week I was worried that the 136 heart beat was too slow, but doctor told me it was great.

    @tysonja: Welcome to our group!

Thanks everyone for making me feel better about not wanting so many hand me downs. I feel horrible sometimes. Like when one of my BF offers her pack and play and I want to buy my own. Hers is pink. We don't want to find out our gender and want neutral colours for future children. Plus I am excited to buy new things for our first child.

@Mrs D: wow, you are so dedicated to working out! Make sure you post a DVD review and let us know how they are! I was so excited to get outdoors today. We went for a 2 hour stroll which was awesome but I found my lower back/hips were really achy. I need to start stretching and doing my yoga video again. I'm a little worried that the clothes I bought won't last through the whole pregnancy. I don't want to have to buy extra clothes in the summer.

@StbHisMrs: congrats on baby girl! I hope the rest of your pregnancy runs smoothly and you don't have to go on bed rest!

So A couple minutes ago I was sitting watching tv (well reading HB) and I felt baby moving. So I put my hand on my belly and could feel the baby underneath which was super weird. It was pushing up against my hand. So I pushed down on it and it moved away and I got worried that I hurt it!

So I googled "poking baby" and "pushing on baby" and everyone says you can't hurt it Whewf! So poke away ladies!

@SKIPPER2010: I know! We're all getting so close. I really can't believe how fast the second trimester has gone by!!

@Mrs D: That's awesome about your friend! One of our couple friends just had a baby boy a couple weeks ago. DH & her husband have been friends since they were 5ish so I REALLY hope we can force these 2 little guys to be friends too! It'll be so nice to have a friend to go through this all with! Did you have an awesome time on your trip? (besides all the sweet?) Also, very awesome about your dad painting the baby's room! That is SO thoughtful of him!

@JAMIELEE: Haven't gotten much grief yet. I've actually had it the opposite. I have a friend who doesn't have kids and isn't married and she is constantly telling me about all the stuff I'm going to "NEED" once the baby is here. I wish she would just let me figure out what I want/need. lol

@GRACE: YAY! Those odds are great! I'm so glad you're less stressed and hopefully you were seen by the doctor before you peed your pants! I HATE having to wait while my bladder is about to burst!

@DELIGHT: Yea, it was super cool! I have a bunch of stuff that's been handed down as well. Currently, most of the stuff is really great and stuff I want but didn't want to spend money on. However, I TOTALLY agree that there are SOME things I really want to buy new. My MIL, with great intention, gave me the outfit that DH was brought home in and I feel like she wants me to use it to bring home our boy. Except I really don't like it. I feel bad but... I don't wanna do it! Oh, AND, just saw your latest comment, I am constantly poking and prodding my belly and ALWAYS feel like I've hurt the baby! hahaha I feel so bad but I just love feeling him move around in there.

@TYSONJA: Welcome to the group & CONGRATS! I added you to the roll call list There are a TON of us august mama's, which is awesome!

@MODERN DAISY: I have to agree with the other ladies, I would have gone CRAZY by now and opened to see what it was already. Your will power is inspiring!

@STBHISMRS: Congrats on your little girl! Another hamburger addition! I think the girls are now out weighing the boys! So excited for you! Really hope you don't have the same complications this pregnancy as you did the last 2. Kinda scary!

@ModernDaisy: I'm glad everything is ok! You have a lot of willpower to not open that envelope!

@delight: I'm guessing that the parts of the heart that they couldn't see are not so important. Plus the doctor said that they look at the structures around the part they are trying to see and if that looks good, then the part that they are wondering about is probably ok too. You got to poke the baby already? Sooooo jealous! That's awesome.

@tysonja: Welcome! I'm in slight disbelief that you were able to hold off unto 8-9 weeks to find out you were pregnant. Lol!

@Mrs D: Is your dr worried about your weight gain? It doesn't sound like it's much higher than the "normal". And all my apps say that you don't gain weight evenly. It might slow down.

@StbHisMrs: Congrats on your little girl! I hope your contractions stop and you don't get bed rest again. Is there anything you can do to try to prevent it, or could it just be something that your body does, no matter what?

@.twist.: Can you change my appt to Aug 3? They cancelled my normal ultrasound (the fetal assessment covered it), so I just have my regular appt with my dr

So, thank you all for your well wishes! I'm super happy about the result and the silver lining for this scare is that I feel much more connected to this baby than I was before. The dr finally came in and was super cute (and I swear that's why it took so long - all the other women didn't want to give him up). He looked for the other stuff that nurse couldn't get and he said everything looks fine. And the baby gave us the "hanging loose" sign, as if to say "chillax, everything is fine in here!"

No there's nothing I can do to stop it, I had them sitting on bedrest, sleeping, standing, walking, working, you name it with my last. I was on magnesium sulfate and that didn't stop the contractions, it did stop the softening of my cervix though. My OB says I have an irritable uterus, fun times.

@Grace: Love that u/s pic. So cute. Baby's relaxed and chillin' out already.

    @tysonja: welcome!!

@delight: on hand-me-downs: my DH brought out rubbermaid bins of the clothes my stepkids wore (and burping cloths...and blankets. Complete with formula stains). Now, I appreciate that he has a lot of fond memories of them and we will use some of them, but I do not plan to have every holiday picture be a repeat of the happy family they used to be 14 years ago :P. His ex's big thing is Disney Winnie the Pooh. I love Pooh-bear, but I don't really feel comfortable dressing our kid up in clothing that his ex picked out for their first! I want my own memories ;).

I also think that we deny ourselves so long picking out and buying baby things, that when we finally have the opportunity to go crazy we want to enjoy that moment!

@StbHisMrs: "mostly due to him being inconsiderate and dumb": lol!! Congrats on your girl!!! Boo on the contractions though. I will think strong no-bed-rest thoughts at you!

@Grace: that U/S pic is AWESOME.

@redsmarties: ooh, pool sounds great. Too bad the only one around here is the Y, which is insanely expensive. I've become such a couch potato. Signed up for an agility trial, so we'll see how much I'm huffing and puffing by the end of a run :P.

I totally scored at JC Penneys with clearance Carter's items. Picked up a sleeper, a red sweater-cardigan, and a 2T summer shirt (lol) for $2 each!

We also visited Buy Buy Baby, which was an hour's drive. I was very 'eh' on it. Probably because I dislike the layout of Bed Bath and Beyond and this was very similar since it's owned by the same company. Also it wasn't in the greatest of strip malls.

We specifically went looking for glider chairs and while I did really like the Best Chairs Kamilla, I'm not sure if I $500 like it. I think we're still going to go with the BRU glider (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13122563) and just take our chances with it arriving broken. Reviews seem to be 50/50.

I did use my $10 off $30 coupon though, and picked up another BG Freestyle cloth diaper (plus some waterproof changing pad liners...but those aren't as exciting ;)). It was nice to see some things in store that I'd only seen online previously.

@.twist.: I am definitely not team grilled cheese - I'll find out Apr 11. My trip was awesome...I only had a day of decent weather to sightsee (and we were really busy at work) but I just love when I get to see a city/country I otherwise may not spend my own money to travel too! Plus I got upgraded on both of my long flights - score!!!

@delight: For the record - this is my workout plan...today is Day 1 - we'll see how I actually do!

@Grace: Love that picture - SO cute!!!

@StbHisMrs: I have been terrible about bedrest lately. I had surgery on my cervix when I was 18 - the Dr told me then that the longer I waited to have kids the better healed it would be but did warn me that bedrest and having to have my cervix stitched was always a possibility during pregnancy. Fingers crossed you have a better experience this time and no PTL!

@StrawberryBee: Totally know what you mean about the layout of BBB - it makes me feel like I am in a bed bath for sure! The one by me is very clean and organized though - which is not the case with BRUS which may be why I prefer BBB. Great scores! Cant wait to start really shopping when we know the gender!

So - I came home to the nursery with one solid coat of paint on the walls and I LOVE the color! It's so light and fresh - I think it is going to look great with the dark furniture. I made plans with my sister to visit Container Store while in Chicago in 4 weeks to get the materials for the closet (needs an overhaul esp to be baby ready).

Otherwise, I am SO happy to be home and done with long distance travel for a while! I'll have to go to Ohio for a few weeks in the next two months but thats just a 3 hr drive!

This week DH and I are having the crib delivered (tomorrow) and hopefully checking out day care #2. DH also needs to call about the baptism. Otherwise just hoping for a quick week to get to my anatomy scan (next week) faster.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!!!

Trying to catch up with everyone so sorry if I missed anyone! Didn’t mean to, just so much going on!!

@skipper2010: That does sound weird, but if they’re okay with the images they did capture, I’m sure all is well. They wouldn’t put something off like heart pictures because I know for mine, they always check. Like you said, it IS the heart!

@tysonja: Welcome!!! Your comment i expect to be congratulating most of you first, while i watch on with my giant belly! cracked me up!! Thanks for the laughter!

@Modern Daisy: Wow! The dedication to NOT open up that envelope! I would have totally torn into. Haha!

@StbHisMrs: Congrats on being Team Hamburger!! I have no idea what PTL is, but hoping you don’t get put on bed rest either, and all is well!!

@Delight: I’ve started to feel the baby move externally here and there, but never consistently. It also happens to be super low also! Like under my belly close to my pelvic bone? It’s so cool to feel him kick once in a while!

@Grace: HAHAHA! Love the hanging loose hand sign!! Perfect for the occasion!

@redsmarties: LOL at your hubby’s comment when you’re trying to get baby girl to move “you can’t.shake.the.baby.” HAHAHA!

@StrawberryBee: There’s a glider and ottoman set I really like by Dutailier, but it’s like $1,000 for both pieces ($700 for the glider and $300 for the ottoman). I’m debating if I REALLY want to spend that kind of money on a glider also, but haven’t found something else I like comfort-wise. Maybe I’m being biased… haha.

As for me, I have weird bouts of fatigue here and there. Anyone else experiencing that? Like one day I'm fine and dandy, then the next 3 days, I'm like OMG! I'm effing tired as crap. The hubby felt the baby move yesterday but it was light and nothing consistent. Still exciting milestone though.

@Alivoo01: my baby is super low too the last couple of days. I am contemplating doing a headstand to see if I can wiggle it up a bit. I am feeling a lot of pressure from baby on my bladder. I think your last comment to Skipper was for me, she was just replying to my heart concerns earlier. I think you're both right, they must have got what they needed so I'm trying not to worry about anything!

@Mrs D: How's day 1 going? I was gonna go for a walk today but its snowing! What the?! It's like a really mean April Fool's joke!

@.twist.: can you add April 19 for my next appointment at the next update?

So even though the Dr. said it was his 'guess' and he was only about 90% sure I decided to have a gender reveal cake made for me and DH on Saturday from Magnolia bakery - my favorite. They don't make the actual cake pink or blue, they put two layers of pink or blue icing on the inside which I think is really smart so you don't risk accidentally finding out if the icing isn't providing full coverage.

We went out to dinner at a local italian place actually just a few steps from our apartment and after dinner had them serve us our cake on a plate, uncut. We both held the knife like we did at our wedding and cut into it and the icing inside was... blue!!! I was hysterical laughing with shock because we were both convinced it was a girl. I'm still not over it. I honestly and truly did not think it was a possibility that the icing would be blue.

We're going to confirm it this week during our anatomy scan since I guess it could still be incorrect, but right now I am overwhelmed with joy and super excited to be having a baby boy. There are so many thoughts going through my head. I'm playing catch-up since I had been preparing for a girl all this time.

  27. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

@Modern Daisy: I used Magnolia's cookbook at work last year, and their stuff is awesome! Love the idea of the coloured icing- I was going to do something similar with icing-filled cupcakes. Then I got lazy ;).

Seriously, baby girl is dancing on my bladder, constantly. I feel her move pretty consistently which is really exciting, but I am peeing every twenty minutes. Come on now, just move over/up a little!

@Mrs D: Yay for paint on the walls! take it easy, momma

@Alivoo01: I know, I've even gone as far as to say (to DH), "maybe we don't need a glider at all" (because I hate to spend the money on it). DH: "Well, we need something to sit on while we're in there!"

I've had a couple bumps that I think if my DH had had his hand on me at the time, he could have felt them.

@Modern Daisy: What a great gender reveal! I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if they saw it was a boy, it probably is :). Congrats on being team hotdog!

@redsmarties: I know, I've had to pee a lot, but when I get there I'm like, that's all? I hate using public restrooms so I've had to cut a couple of shopping trips short because I NEEDED to go.

We had a crazy Easter (brother-in-law drama, emotions running high for all involved), and preggo hormones struck again this morning because I'm so frustrated with DH that he still hasn't filed our taxes and it's freaking April 1st already. I am NOT a last minute kind of person, and I can't do them on my own because he still has to go through and catalog a year's worth of business receipts.

Apparently me asking once a week and telling him that I can't sleep because it's stressing me out is not enough of a hint.

Sorry; I feel like all I ever do is complain any more!

Baby will move up eventually right and stop jumping on our bladders? I guess then we will be complaining about our ribs being kicked!

@StrawberryBee: If it helps, I don't think you complain a lot, so bring on the occasional rant.

It's so interesting to hear about symptoms some of you early Aug Mamas get. It's like getting to peak a couple weeks into the future.

@Grace: Such a cute u/s pic! Love it!!

@Alivoo01: Totally with you on the fatigue. Some days I feel very energetic and others I struggle to keep my eyes open!

@Modern Daisy: Congrats on team hotdog!! So exciting! Looks like the numbers are even right now!

@JamieLee: @StrawberryBee: I'll join the haven't filed our taxes yet camp, too! We're planning to do them this weekend.

Y'all, it's April! Which means that in 4 months the first of the August mamas are going to start giving birth! Crazy!!

@Modern Daisy: Welcome to team hotdog!!! Have you told your families or are you still planning on doing a little reveal at your baby shower?

@lawbee11: 4 months!!! I still have so much to do, but I'm so excited! So unreal how fast this is all happening! Eeek!

@skipper2010: Aww, thanks! I am still doing the reveal so we aren't telling anyone (other than HB). Dh might tell his brother beforehand, but we trust him to keep it quiet. We've actually decided to keep telling people that the Dr. hasn't been able to tell, right up until our shower.
