@StrawberryBee: I feel the exact same way about using my step-kids things. That was main argument during our last pregnancy, he wanted to use their crib and a couple other things. Now his ex-wife gives us all of the youngest ones outgrown clothes, some nice, some not so much...
@Mrs D: I will definitely cross my fingers that you don't get put on bedrest too. That would be heavy on my mind too.
@Alivoo01: PTL = preterm labor when I'm lazy and don't want to type it out lol
@Modern Daisy: How creative of you, I would've loved to have done something like this!!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@JamieLee: @Grace: @Lawbee11: Um, we done ZERO things in preparation for the baby except for some clothes shopping and a carseat... No official registry yet, and the office is still fully intact. Haha!
@StbHisMrs: PTL - gotcha! Now I know! Resume using the acronym (only when necessary). LOL!

@JamieLee: we can't do taxes this weekend because we have the kids. And it's not like he doesn't have the time to do them. He's been off work today since 11:30, and I saw a post to FB about a new level reached in Candy Crush ¬_¬.
He always owes and I always get money back (yeah, we still view our finances as independent) because I work in a corporate setting and pay taxes out of each paycheck, and he sets aside nothing because he's self-employed. Frustrates me to no end. He will end up "paying" me the difference from his bank account, since I pay all the mortgage and get all of that deduction. We're so weird ;).
@lawbee11: @JamieLee: @Grace: another one for OMG, four months!! XD. Meanwhile, DH told me this weekend "relax, we still have four months" lol. Guess it's all based on perspective?
@StbHisMrs: I can only imagine the look on his ex's face when/if we start showing up with the baby dressed in her children's old clothes. A lot of the things he has for them have been stored in an outside shed, and the furniture's just not usable for a baby any more (mice, etc.).

@StrawberryBee: that used to be our situation with taxes too, until my husband got a job working for a company rather than himself/his dad. But on our taxes next year, I will be the self employed one! I don't yet make enough to have to pay much of anything in the way of taxes though! Hoping that will change.

Oh wow 4 months does not seem very long at all. We have done nothing in preparation. In fact we are looking to buy a new house before baby comes which will be crazy.
@StrawberryBee: we view our finances independently too since I am self employed. Your comment about candy crush made me laugh. I've been on it non-stop today (minus the time I have to wait around for my lives to replenish).

@StrawberryBee: This is very similar to our tax set up - and DH drives me bonkers as well!!!!
Holy crap - thankfully us late August mama's still have almost 5 months to get our crap together!
Day 1 of eat better/workout went ok. I was supposed to get up early for the treadmill this AM but DH was up all night getting sick. I ate great at work today minus the stupid co-workers who put cupcakes in front of the crazy preggo lady! I ate 1.5 but totally cut back on everything else - so I feel "ok". I just finished 35 mins on the treadmill...so I'm going to say I did fine today! Tomorrow is another chance to take a step in the right direction - and I'll be trying out the first of my new DVD purchases so I'll let you guys know my review!

PS - H&M top? If yes, I have the same one!!

All of you who have been talking about baby being down low and pushing extra on your bladder... YES! I have been to the bathroom at least 20 times today. It's a little excessive!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@JamieLee: @delight: @Mrs D: Glad to know we're not the only ones who think that way ;D. It bums him out that I make more than him and carry all the household finances. When we got together we just always made enough to cover our own bills, so that continued into our marriage. He gives me a lot of the extra money he makes (that isn't needed for bills) and I hoard it in our shared account to cover out of the ordinary expenses (i.e. the hospital bill from delivery). He can't understand why he's giving me money and I won't use it, and I can't understand how he won't plan beyond today lol.
When I came home last night he told me he started cataloging his receipts, and I apologized for flying off the handle at a moment's notice (again). So, all good!
and I know, candy crush is waaaaay too addicting!
In baby news...I got my first baby-related stretch marks (to add to all the ones from adolescence). Waah! They're down my left hand side (top thigh and waist). I slathered them in coconut oil this morning, but I have a feeling it's too late. Sigh.
I don't think I have any new ones on my belly, so maybe the coconut oil has been working there? lesson learned, oil/lotion everywhere!

So - I think I felt my first little kick this morning laying in bed. It was like a tiny bubble burst in the side of my stomach...it didn't happen again and I definitely dont think it was gas...
Anyone out there want to confirm this is what they can feel like?
pomelo / 5326 posts
@StrawberryBee: oh no! The dreaded stretch marks! I hav heard there is not much you can do about them but I'm also slathering on lotions and oils. I really need to take my belly button ring out one of these days or it might come out on its own!
@skipper2010: thanks! Hard to believe we are half way!
@Mrs D: that's what I have been feeling this week! Just like a little bubble here and there. Usually I can also feel some other tightening/moving in same spot so know it's baby. I'm excited to feel repeated kicks or even hiccups. For now, it's just one little kick once in awhile!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Mrs D: Yes, that's what it started out like for me! They will slowly increase, so you'll be more sure that that's what you're feeling :).
nectarine / 2530 posts
@delight: I know, and I figure since I'm obviously genetically predisposed to them there's probably not much hope. Makes me feel better to put oil on them, though :).
Just did a cloth diaper show and tell to my boss lol. They keep on expecting safety pins, no matter how many times I tell them that pocket CDs are very different!
Now I'm going to (sneakily) go through the baby book and start jotting things down before I forget when they happened. Thank goodness for this thread!

@delight: Cute bump and I really need to stop by H&M to pick up some summer tops!
@Mrs D: Yup! It feels like little popcorn popping, or little muscle twinges. Like @delight said, they start coming in sporadic waves in the same spot so you know for sure it's the baby! It's so neat!! Yay for feeling the baby!!
@StrawberryBee: I'm constantly checking to see if I have stretch marks yet, and so far I'm okay (phew). However, I think I'm starting to see the onset of the linea negra. Anyone else (starting) seeing their's?
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: I had to do a show and tell with my MIL because she was expecting pins and plastic pants and thought I was crazy. But then again, so do most of the people I tell about our CD plans.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@Mrs D: That sounds like a kick to me! I have been feeling 'flutters' for about the last two weeks and in the last few days they've turned into definite 'kicks'. Last night I came home from work and immediately cut myself a slice of our gender reveal cake and that baby boy kicked me in delight for a good 10 mins afterwards! I hope I'm not getting him addicted to sugar with my bad eating habits..
grapefruit / 4545 posts
btw...speaking of cloth diapers...my mom told me to register for some of the pre-fold gerber ones because they make great burp clothes...just a hint for anyone interested.
@delight: @StrawberryBee: @Alivoo01: Thanks for the confirmation ladies! I have been having some tightening/pains off and on for the last week or so (guessing they are growing/stretching paints) and I think I had felt some flutters before but this one made me go "hm...I think my child just kicked me!"

@delight: Super cut bump!! Is that a maternity shirt? My bump is around the same size as yours right now, I have been taking weekly photos and will post them to our FB group soon, once I get them off our camera.
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Modern Daisy: @Alivoo01: yes h&m has awesome
Maternity stuff. This one is more spring than summer so it's not there anymore but they just released some cute summer things. Check it out online! Check sale racks too sometimes the maternity stuff is mixed in with regular. I got hot pink skinny mat jeans for 7$. Amazing!
As for diapers, is anyone doing a cloth diaper service? We have one in our city where they pick up and drop off diapers each week. You don't even have to clean or scrape into toilet or anything! Just toss into a big bag and leave on your porch and they will replace with new ones! I think we will do that. It's 20$ a week which seems reasonable.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@delight: Also, how do the sizes run with H&M maternity? Like how would you compare the sizing to Gap and Old Navy? I am an XS at Gap and a S/XS at Old Navy, so would I be the same at H&M or do their clothes run larger?
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Modern Daisy: I wear the same at all those stores in shirts. One thing about H&M is that their pants aren't s/m/l they are numbered. I find I have to go up a size. I am usually about a 6 pant but wear 8 at h&m.
clementine / 930 posts
@Mrs D: I've also been having what could only be described as tightening/pain as well. I'm guessing there's some round ligament pain in there as well.
@delight: we live in a rural area so no diaper service around here. Sounds great though!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@delight: CD delivery service?! That sounds awesome!!! We'll be doing disposables bc the hubby is NOT on board with it at all. He's intrigued by it, but said negatory. haha!
@Modern Daisy: I find that H&M clothing tends to run a bit smaller for me. Maybe it's because it's more fitting so it feels smaller.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Alivoo01: My linea started super early! I want to say at least two months ago?
@Modern Daisy: If we can get our kids addicted to sugar while in the womb mine is in a lot of trouble ;).
@Mrs D: pre-fold gerbers are on the registry!
@delight: I 'kind of' looked into a service but couldn't find any that were cost effective in the area. I'm planning on using liners once she's on solid food, so hopefully no poop spraying or scraping happening here!

@delight: Cute bump pic!! Can't believe we're halfway! I have a shirt from H&M similar to that one, but it's black with white stripes.
@Ocean girl: I had to pee soooo bad on my way home yesterday (I have a 40-45 min commute) and baby kept kicking me in the bladder. It was not pleasant!
@StrawberryBee: Boo for stretch marks!
@Mrs D: So exciting! Mine feel live popcorn popping in my belly. I love feeling movement, except when she kicks me in the bladder or cervix.
@Alivoo01: I kinda see one? Some days it's there and some days I can't find it. I am hoping I am just seeing things and I won't get one, but I doubt I'll be that lucky.
@Modern Daisy: I wear a S in Gap maternity and also in H&M maternity. They seem to be similar in sizing.
Last night I was having these shooting pains in my vagina. They hurt! I texted my friend who is also pregnant (she's a couple weeks ahead of me) and she said it's called "lightning crotch." Definitely an appropriate name--it feels like lightning pains down there...they only last for a second. She said she's had it, too. It happened off and on for an hour. Thank goodness it stopped...I can't even imagine how much contractions are going to hurt!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Alivoo01: oh my linea has been noticeable for a month now at least. It gets darker every day. I don't like it at all. It fades right?!
As for the CDs, my hubby is only semi on board. He would be 100% not on board if they were the kind you had to scoop into toilet and wash at home. Plus I have a feeling there will be a stash of disposables in the house for when baby is home alone with him!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@lawbee11: Mine fades in and out too! I wasn't sure if it was just me seeing things, but I feel more reassured. Ha! I also occasionally feel the "lightening crotch" sensation. It's so weird. Thankfully, they're not painful yet and only occur rarely, but they are uncomfortable!
@delight: Yes! They're supposed to fade after birth. How long does it take to fade though? No idea...
clementine / 930 posts
@delight: My hubs is not sold on CDs, but I'm going to be home with the baby 90% of the time (I work from home) so I pulled rank...lol! His biggest concern is that the diapers will be washed in the same washing machine as his clothes! He works in construction/maintenance, so his clothes are disgusting - always covered in paint, bleach, dirt, grass, sawdust, etc. I told him I'm more concerned that the baby's stuff will be washed in the same machine as his nasty clothes! And it's not like he has nice clothes he is worried about...he is NOT a fashion lover, and most of his clothes come from places like (if I buy them) Old Navy and Target or (if he buys them) Meijer and WalMart! He's so ridiculous some times!
@lawbee11: I think I've had some lightening crotch as well...
Has anyone had joint pain? I was having major pain in the inside of my hips, like the crotch area (different than lightening crotch though!)
I was also having rib and sternum pain. I was reading something about something called costochondritis where your cartilage or muscles where your sternum meets your rib cage becomes inflamed...wonder if that has something to do with it.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@StrawberryBee: Welcome to stretch mark-land! I've got 5 lovely ones (*said sarcastically). I get new ones after each new pain/stretching episode (so three at 11 weeks) and two new ones this week. I'm resigned. I figure the bright side is that I have a rounder belly each time and look less fat!
@Alivoo01: No linera yet. Maybe it's the tradeoff for the stretch marks?
@lawbee11: Yikes! I thought lightning crotch came later. Not looking forward to that!
@JamieLee: I've only had some wrist pain once in a while. I hope yours doesn't get too bad!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@JamieLee: haha your husband sounds like mine. I will even go as far as admit that my DH has never even changed a diaper. Anyone else in the same boat!?
I don't have lightening crotch yet but definitely lower back and hip pain. Once in awhile when I take a step I get a shooting pain in lower back/hip/bum region. Other than that I'm feeling really good these days. Not too tired which is a nice change! I commute 60-90 minutes each way to work, depending on which school I'm at, so I'm hoping the long drive doesn't start to wear me down. I only have to make it until June 15th then my summer holidays start!
What does everyone do for jobs? Maybe you already talked about it in the first few pages. I am a speech therapist and work in 10 different Schools. I think redsmarties, you're an SLP too right!.
clementine / 930 posts
@delight: Guilty...well, he is, of never changing a diaper!
That commute sounds brutal!
As for me, I used to serve as a Communications Director for an association (I worked at an association management firm). The way that place was run though eventually got to me, so I quit and now do graphic design from home. I mainly sell on Etsy and have one freelance client, but I hope to get some more soon. To make extra money, I'm also babysitting some.
pomelo / 5326 posts
@JamieLee: working from home is amazing. I stay home and do my paperwork on Fridays and always feel like I accomplish a lot. Plus I can stay in my jammies which is always a bonus. Good for you for doing your own thing! You'll still be able to do freelance work with baby right? Or are you planning on taking some work-free time?
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@delight: I'm an audit manager and so is @Mrs D!
How are you ladies doing in the bra department? I was a small A pre-BFP and am now a solid/full B so the fact that my boobs touch my belly when I'm sitting down now totally blows my mind. But sitting all day makes my underwire bra dig into my rib/belly/boobs. Any of you have issues with that yet? Have you swapped to wireless or found a more comfortable solution?
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Alivoo01: I only just recently started to notice an increase in size. I think I'll be able to wear my bra a little while longer but will have to get something more comfy soon. I don't really want to buy new bras now and then nursing bras in a few months though!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@delight: I'm a research tech for a pharmaceutical company. I'm envying you getting summers off!
@Alivoo01: Some of my bras are starting to hurt me, so I went up a band size for a new one. And found out about bra extenders to make the band size bigger. No new cup size, thank goodness. I don't need any extra. Also, I've found that if I wear a light sports bra to bed, then they don't hurt as much during the day.
