@Alivoo01: @msmay: Any time! I also got a lead on a used Medela Freestyle (only used a couple of times by my coworker's niece) so I'm waiting to hear back on what price she'd want for it. It looks like the tubing/connectors replacement set costs $40 (which I guess I'd need. I mean, I don't know her personally) so she'd have to discount it pretty heavily for it to make financial sense.

@Mrs D: DSD also wants me to get this muggle onesie (which I do like, but $20 for a onesie, good grief! I may get a knockoff on Etsy lol):

    http://www.harrypottershop.com/product/harry+potter+muggle+infant+snapsuit+hptvtmugin.do?sortby=ourPicks&from=fn

I'm with the other girls; it's only $20, so it's not a huge investment if you can't go. You may be glad for the time out!

@redsmarties: @.twist.: Thanks! I think I may also get this:

@JamieLee: Thanks! My DSD 'permanently borrowed' quite a few of my HP books, so I haven't reread the later ones in a while. She adores HP (I do too, but I don't think I will ever attain her level). She said she would make sure that the baby is a Harry Potter fanatic just like her. I said go for it! ^_^

Congrats on the major clothing haul! like @twist:, I love the pirate one.

My coworker said she'd bring in all her maternity clothes tomorrow for me to borrow while I'm preggers. Woohoo! Her only caveat is that I return them when I don't need them any more (which is fine, I'm not sure what I'd do with them after I give birth anyway lol). She gave birth in September two years ago, so we match for seasons. I know she has a lot of maxi dresses.

@StrawberryBee: I've seen a lot of cute HP onesies on Etsy. I found one that said Muggle Born, another that said I Solemnly Swear I Am Up To Know Good, and a Mischeif Managed one! So cute!

@JamieLee: This is dangerous. You do realize that I'm now Etsy-stalking just about every HP themed onesie there is. Hubs is going to be livid haha (he doesn't understand what's great about the series).

So, today I've had this ridiculous, dull pain all around my abdomen. Having just been given a pamphlet on preterm labour by my midwife, I was mildly worried all day.
And then, I realized what it was I was feeling. And I was mortified.

Gas pain. I almost paged my midwife over GAS PAIN. This is why pregnant-me shouldn't be allowed to overthink things.

@.twist.: Ya Kid Rock is awesome like that - he's pissed about all the scalpers making money on his tickets and whatnot so he is just doing $20 flat rate to limit them!

My due date is anyone's guess at this point. Based on LMP it is Aug 28, at my first US they moved it back a week (Sep 3 - but I refused to leave you ladies) at my NT scan she said I looked 5 days ahead - so almost my original date. We'l see Thurs at my anatomy scan!

@JamieLee: Awesome purchases! I think I may have that striped dress! I just ordered a pair of jean capri's and white khaki capris plus a few tanks - that will be my staple for summer! BTW - I just booked two weekends up in your neck of the woods - cant wait for those Northern MI summers!

@StrawberryBee: SO cute!!! I used to call our dog a muggle (she's a puggle) - love it!

I cant wait until my shopping freeze ends on Thursday when I can finally start buying some fun onsies!

@Mrs D: haha ok! I was worried I read something wrong somewhere for a second! I wish KISS felt the same. Honestly, it's not even ALL 4 of them, only 2 of the 4. So really, you're only getting HALF of KISS. So... the tickets should really be half the cost right? haha Although $300 is STILL too much for my pocket book...

@.twist.: I also have an anterior placenta, and I've been feeling movement for a long time as well. According to my midwife, it might prevent the movement being felt from the outside for awhile. So far, DH hasn't really felt much from outside, so that might be our problem for now.

@JamieLee: nice job getting your summer maternity shopping in! I have been avoiding shopping like the plague I actually got to the point where I was popping out of the bottom of one of my shirts (thankfully I had a cardigan I could button up) before I realized that I needed to get with the program, lol. I'm still shopping in pieces, though. And the pirate is adorable

Ooo, "mischief managed"! I need to grab that one

@redsmarties: lol, you're not alone. I asked one of the midwives about some pain after my ultrasound and she looked at me like I was a little crazy. After all, the tech HAD been pushing on my abdomen for 40 minutes straight. (And baby, who was not a fan, repeatedly kicked my cervix the entire time in protest!)

@Mrs D: so pretty! It really just looks like a cute purse!

Oh, and my next appointment is on May 6th- which is the first night of birthing class!!!!!! We decided on Bradley, so our 12 weeks will soon begin!

I may have missed this (as I've been crushed under a pile of work recently) but have any of y'all decided on/booked birthing class yet?

  19. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@msmay: We're set up for a class that runs for 6 weeks starting the last week of May. Don't know if it's any particular method though. DH is so excited for it - he thinks it's going to teach him everything he needs to know.

  20. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@msmay: we're signed up for a two day class that's run through my dr's office/the hospital. A friend from high school teaches the Bradley Method and absolutely loves it; I'd probably be taking classes with her if she weren't two hours away. But then I feel like I'd have to commit to a med free natural birth, and I'm not sure if I'm up for that. It's hard to prepare for a pain you've never experienced!

  21. msmay

    cherry / 163 posts

@Grace: haha, my husband thinks the same way. Of course, he also thinks we'll just "wing" most of it. Ah man, he does not know what we are in for! Is your class birthing/baby care combined?

@StrawberryBee: aw, too bad she's so far away! And yeah, they pretty much tell you up front the primary goal is a natural birth. Since I'm delivering at a birth center (barring no complications, of course) I won't have meds as an option anyway. I figured I needed all the help I could get to have a natural delivery!

The birth center also has breastfeeding and cloth diapering classes too, so I'm going to try to fit those in. I will pretty much take anything they offer- I need to feel as prepared as possible! (read: I. am. neurotic.)

  22. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@msmay: I think part of me is in denial. I signed up for the classes because my DH wanted to (keeping in mind, this is his third child). Breathing techniques will be useful...but I guess I just don't want to acknowledge that there will be pain *rotfl*. And doctors. I really hate doctors. If I allow myself to think about hospital, etc., I'll just get freaked out. DH is not open to a birthing center, and I don't feel strongly enough about it to push the issue.

My goal is: try to trust the people in white coats, do what they say, and try to get a healthy baby and a healthy me out of there ASAP!

Wowza! Our August board is so busy eh!? Love it!

    @Mrs D: gorgeous bag I love it!

@msmay: we are signed up for a 6 week course that is 2 hours every Thursday. I think it starts the first week of June. My best friend and her DH are signed up for the same one so at least the boys can hang out. I don't think they are super thrilled about the course!

DH felt baby kick tonight! S(he) has been super active tonight, I've never felt kicks like this before. So I took a chance and had him put his hand down for a minute, totally thinking he'd get bored and pull his hand away but sure enough baby kicked super hard. It was hilarious!

As for natural vs. medicate, I will have to say I am 99% sure I'll be wanting drugs. The pain from the contractions during my mc was so awful I can't imagine having a drug free birth. However, maybe learning some coping techniques like proper breathing, plus knowing there is something amazing coming at the end of all the pain will help me through it.

  24. msmay

    cherry / 163 posts

@StrawberryBee: for some reason, I've taken the opposite approach. I fully acknowledge there will be a ton of pain, but for whatever reason- maybe because I still have another 20 weeks to go- I'm not freaked out by it yet! (I'm sure this will change!)

@delight: That will be so fun! I have NO friends who are pregnant or who have children, so I'm hoping that we can make some friends in class.

And yay for your husband feeling baby kick! DH keeps trying but nada so far. I'm feeling it, and it is incredible, but he still can't and is getting jealous. We'll be sitting on the sofa and he'll just leave his hand on my belly for an hour waiting! It's really cute

  25. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@msmay: yes I consider myself very fortunate... My best friend and my brother are having babies within weeks of me, so it'll be a fun summer!

Today was the first day my DH would have been able to feel anything. I think maybe the hamburger helper I had for dinner beefed baby up a bit. Your hubby will feel yours soon! So cute he sits with his hand on you.

  26. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@msmay: I think she said that one of the sessions covers newborn. The person that runs it is a OB nurse, so I think she tries to cover a bit of everything.

@StrawberryBee: I think that if hospitals and doctors freak you out, it's really good you are taking a class. Then you have a better idea if what to expect.

@delight: You are so lucky! Both strong kicks and a friend having a baby so close to you!

  27. Alivoo01

    wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@msmay: We signed up for a 2 day prepared childbirth class. Not sure what to expect or what they’ll be teaching, but its two days of a 6-hour course! They said they provide snacks and drinks so that’s good because I’m sure I’ll get hungry! We also signed up for breastfeeding and baby/infant safety & CPR class. They offered a bunch of other classes too, but figured these 3 were the most applicable to us.

@Mrs D: Love the color of your diaper bag!

@delight: Yay for your hubby feeling the baby kick!!

@StrawberryBee: I’m terrified of the pain and labor, and ALWAYS read up on everyone’s birth stories or the threads that talk about labor like tearing (my #1 biggest fear). Maybe I’ll overwhelm myself with so much fear that come delivery time, it won’t seem as bad? Haha! Totally crossing my legs now thinking about tearing… *shudders*

  28. greenebee

    cherry / 189 posts

@StrawberryBee: I have the same philosophy, at least for now. I'm kind of just going to trust in the doctors and hope for healthy labor for my LO and myself. We're taking one all day class in June, just so we don't get completely blind-sided.

  29. .twist.

@redsmarties: I was really surprised when she told me I had an anterior. I thought for sure I couldn't have one because I felt so much movement. I'm glad that I have been feeling him for so long!

Oh Girls, all this talk about classes is freaking me out. I haven't signed up for any. Part of my hesitation was that I have quite a few friends who said to just skip it and/or didn't take it themselves. The other part is that my husband has already done it and I REALLY didn't think he'd be interested. The subject was brought up last night and he seemed really cool about taking another one. I was a little surprised.

Do you think it's too late to sign up for one?

@Alivoo01: I've gotten over the tearing fear a bit (although it still freaks me out). However, I'm REALLY scared for hemroids. I've never had them before and I've heard they totally unavoidable and it just freaks me out SO BAD.

@StrawberryBee: My goal is similar to yours - healthy baby with as comfortable a labor as allowed. If I decide I want meds - I'm taking them. If they decide they need to do a c-section, then so be it.

As my step father always reminds me, there is no award for natural drug free vaginal births. He cracks me up.

We haven't signed up for classes yet but I plan to do:
-Breastfeeding Class in June (1 day, 3 hours)
-Childbirth in June/July (4 days, 2 hours each)
-Baby Basics in August (1 day, 3 hours)

They are all offered by our hospital.

@Alivoo01: Ditto here - I am terrified of tearing! My SIL was a terrible tear, like worst on the scale, so I feel traumatized by that!

@.twist.: LOVE seeing that I am the next appointment, why cant Thursday morning come faster.

You guys - this diaper bag is amaze-balls! The way the sides unzip to expand is phenomenal! All the compartments are great and it feels comfy on (granted it was empty). I also love the stroller straps big time! Its definitely more pink than red but I still LOVES it!

  34. Alivoo01

    wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@.twist.: I have an anterior placenta as well, but I've been feeling DS pretty well - yay!

I don't think it's too late to sign up for classes if you're wanting to take them! My first one isn't until late May, and my other two are sometime in June. Like the breastfeeding class, they don't allow you to sign up for the class until you're at least 32 weeks come that time. My OB just said to make sure I finish all my classes before July since it's hot as crap here in Texas (116+), and I might start being uncomfortable sitting for an extended amount of time (e.g. prepared birthclass is 6 hours long). While I have signed up for birth classes, I've done nothing else in preparation for the baby! Office is still fully intact and I haven't bought anything other than the carseat and some clothes. And oddly, I'm okay with that. Ask me again in a couple weeks and I may or may not be freaking out. haha!

As for hemorroids, I didn't even think about that since all I've been thinking about is tearing. So tearing and hemorroids - cringe.

@JamieLee: @Mrs D: OMG ladies, I feel like I can feel the pain now.... *shudders* Anyone plan on doing anything to prevent tearing?? I'm going to ask the OB this question also as we get closer to our weekly appointments.

@redsmarties: Such a cute pic of your barely visible toes! And yay for registering!

@msmay: Cute ultrasound picture!! It's crazy how detailed they are this early. I've called twice to book the classes at our hospital, and both times they've said their schedule is only updated through June. (We're planning to schedule ours in July because we have a crazy busy June.) I am going to call again in a couple of weeks. We're taking 4 classes: (1) childbirth prep, (2) intro to breastfeeding, (3) infant safety & CPR, and (4) newborn care. I also signed my stepkids up for a sibling class, so they're excited about that!

@.twist.: Glad everything went well at your doctor's appointment!

@JamieLee: Love all of the maternity and baby clothes you got! Looks like you found a lot of cute stuff!

I haven't signed up for classes yet either. I want us to take the childbirth prep, breastfeeding, and newborn care. I'll probably try to sign up to take them in June/July, and I'll try to register this month. We will take all three through our hospital.

Does anyone know what the newborn care classes include?

I've grown up with children and babies my whole life and feel like I kinda know the basics of taking care of a baby.... ? Am I being arrogant?

  38. JamieLee

    clementine / 930 posts

@.twist.: our class supposedly covers bathing, feeding (breast and bottle), solid foods, safety, diapering, that sort of stuff. I really want to take it for DHs sake as he's never cared for a baby or even changed a diaper.

  39. Alivoo01

    wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@.twist.: According to my hospital's website, this is what is covered in the newborn care class: This class is designed to help first time parents to have realistic expectations and learn the basics of caring for a newborn. Topics covered include: diapering, bathing, soothing and caring for your new baby; with additional information on growth, development and parenting.

We're skipping this one since I took care of my younger brother and two younger cousins since they were babies. Hubby has some experience also, but our schedule is already jam packed so we didn't see the benefits of attending this multi-hour course.

  40. .twist.

    pineapple / 12802 posts

@JamieLee: aaah, ok. besides the breastfeeding I'm really comfortable with those things and I plan to hopefully take a breastfeeding class.

@Alivoo01: Yep! I think we'll skip it too. DH has two boys already so he's been through the baby phase and I've helped raise a lot of infants so I don't think that class is necessary for us either!
