@JamieLee: Those are SO CUTE. I wish the two friends planning my shower wore that colour. I may just do some sort of spin off from that though! Love it as a hostess gift!

@Alivoo01: I need to book my appointment for the glucose test! I can't believe how real it is REALLY starting to feel. So crazy. I have thought about the cord blood banking, but I think it's pretty expensive here, which sucks. I think we'd do it otherwise.

@Mrs D: I totally pinned almost the exact same pic and emailed it to my mom! I love that idea for a shower gift--I hope she takes the hint!

@Alivoo01: Haha or my mother is just a little bit insane! Hopefully three showers means that we'll get a lot of the stuff we need. I really want to do cord banking, but it's so so expensive. I am going to look into it further.

@Alivoo01: Personally, I would only do cord blood banking if it's free and part of a national registry (for anyone to use). The odds of being able to use it are so low and if your child did need it, it would probably be when they are older, in which case there wouldn't be enough blood/sample. I have my suspicions that the fee based ones are a bit of a scam.

@Grace: My doctor's office recommends cord blood donation through the Michigan Community Blood Centers (aka Michigan Blood). I haven't talked to DH about it yet, but that's what I'm thinking I'd like to do. It's internationally affiliated, so the blood can help people all around the world.

This is their website, and I'm sure there are other similar organizations in other areas: http://www.miblood.org/donating-cord-blood/

@Alivoo01: I was just thinking about the glucose screening yesterday, since my dr hasn't said anything about it yet. Guess I'll find out more at my appointment on Monday.

DH has expressed an interest in cord banking, but I have no interest in spending the money on it, and I don't like the fact that it means you have immediate cord clamping (to save as much of the blood as possible, which of course makes sense!). Hopefully I'll never regret this decision.

@.twist.: Hemorrhoids are one of my greatest fears when it comes to birth!

My midwife said we would schedule the glucose test at my next appointment, which is May 5th. I am NOT looking forward to it! My friend is six weeks ahead of me, and she said it tastes like melted otter pop.

I had the first stranger comment on me being pregnant. That was weird! I hope people don't start touching my belly, I'm not into strangers in my personal space.

My house is getting pained next week and then I can start really getting things together. I'm SO ready to really nest. When I realized I will have an actual baby in like four months I freaked out a little.

My colostrum came in which is super weird. Anyone else? I hope it doesn't start leaking a lot. I'm not ready to have to wear nipple pads!

@JessKas: For real. so scary. My colostrum hasn't come in yet... I've been waiting because I've heard it happening earlier than 23 weeks and so now I'm like wtf. When is it supposed to come in?

  10. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@JessKas: no colostrum yet...I hope it holds off a bit longer!

Eeek, girls, look what came in the mail!! Tutu!! It looks like a big furry caterpillar XD

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@JessKas: A friend mine said that her's came in at 20 weeks. Good news was that she never worried about breastfeeding.

@.twist.: I don't think you have to worry that you haven't seen any colostrum. Just because it's not leaking, doesn't mean it's not there.

  12. .twist.

    pineapple / 12802 posts

@Grace: Good to know! Thanks! I'm just learning about this stuff now. I kept reading about people's milk coming in and how their baby was still ok even though it'd been like 4 days! I was shocked! hahaha what is that little baby eating!? Then I heard about colostrum and I felt a little better than women weren't starving their children. haha

@StrawberryBee: SO CUTE. wow. I cannot wait to see the pics of that (with a baby in it!)!

@StrawberryBee: ahhhh that tutu is so cute!

@JessKas: I didn't even know our colostrum was supposed to come in! Is it just like clear leaking fluid!? Definitely haven't had that yet!

We are not doing cord blood banking. It was too expensive for me. Our biggest question right now is whether or not we will circumcise if we have a boy. I'm very torn but feel like I should leave it up to DH.

  14. .twist.

    pineapple / 12802 posts

@delight: It's such a huge decision to make. I feel like we're making the unpopular choice by circumsizing. DH is and so are our other 2 boys. I also have an adult friend who just had it done because of medical problems and I would HATE for my son to have to go through what this guy went through. I see both arguments though. This was the best decision for us.

  15. JessKas

    pear / 1693 posts

@.twist.: I think it can come in anytime. I googled when it comes in and got anywhere from 12 to 37 weeks!

@strawberrybee: that tutu is SO cute!

@delight: the colostrum is kinda yellowish. I noticed my nipples were moist/sticky and when I squeezed lots came out. It really varies when it comes in!

Circumcision is such a hot topic I feel! It seems people have strong opinions either way. I think more boys than not are still circumcised, but the trend is shifting.

  16. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@JessKas: @.twist.: I know it is such a hot topic! I just want to have a decision made before I deliver. I also want both DH and I to do some research about circumcision.

I was at a conference last night and stayed overnight with some girlfriends. They were all telling me horror stories of their labours. I was almost in tears. One girl had 30 stitches! Ahhhhh! They all said that it is definitely worth it though

  18. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@delight: Have you noticed that women who have kids automatically go to the horror birth stories? I've found that I'll ask a 2nd trimester question, they'll answer and then go on to horrible birth stories. Why are they trying to freak us out?

  19. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@Grace: haha yeah totally! I think I asked something like "So I have a lot of gas lately is that normal?" And the one girl was all like "yeah totally normal. Speaking of bums, my baby's shoulder got stuck coming out and they had to slice me open horizontally from my vag into my butt cheek and I needed 30 stitches. Had to wear frozen maxi pads every day."

    Um yeah awesome.

@delight: No no no, not me....I've heard the worst of worst birth stories - I doubt anything someone could say here would scare me off! I was just away trying to be productive this weekend - which unfortunately turned into to feeling like crap, laying on the couch all day yesterday and eating some delicious Turkey Hill ice cream!

Off to Carters with my mom today - hoping this doesn't open the shopping flood gates!

@delight: went to dh's parents house yesterday and then wasn't feeling well, so I ate an orange, chocolate covered strawberries, ice cream, and fell asleep lol. I am firmly sticking my fingers in my ears on your preggo horror stories ;D

Ordered from baby gap on Friday...I am dangerous! Also gearing up to buy the crib and mattress from target once dh wakes up. Got a 10% off code to try.

Oh glad everyone didn't go running!

@Mrs D: have fun at Carter's! I have not bought any baby clothing except for these cute little gowns from Carter's. Apparently they are great for sleeping because they are open at bottom so make night time changing so easy. Plus I imagine baby will look adorable with the bottom tucked up around their little bum and the little mittens rolled down over their hands!

@StrawberryBee: good luck with target! Which crib are you getting?

@StrawberryBee: oh I love that! We are being gifted a crib and I hope it's one that converts to a toddler bed!

Yeah the little gowns will be awesome for diaper changes. I hope to get some more, I just wanted a couple gender neutral things for the hospital and first few weeks.

@Mrs D: @StrawberryBee: I'm sorry you girls were feeling bad - hope today is better!

StrawberryBee, beautiful crib. I'n waiting for mine to go on sale. It's probably best, that way, the trim in the nursery can be painted first.

My mom and I went fabric shopping yesterday, because she's going to make the curtains for the nursery and some crib sheets and a crib skirt. I think she's going to go nutty though, she's talking about making sleep sacks and pillows and a baptismal gown and on and on. I told her I wouldn't turn anything down, but secretly, I think she's taking on too much!

Here's the fabric we got. The squiggles are for the curtains and the animals are for crib sheets.

Going for my anatomy scan at 3:15 today! Hoping baby cooperates! Did any of you have to drink water before this ultrasound? They didn't mention anything to me. I was so uncomfortable last time and I don't think my bladder would hold it this time....

  34. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@Mrs Bicycle: Yes, I had to drink 32oz of liquid - I got about 20 down, then had to pee (no choice) and got another 15oz or so down before the u/s started. The tech commented when I laid down and she started looking that my bladder was not full. UGH!

And now, judging by how my stubborn baby likes to just chill out and not move around too much I will be drinking 8oz of coke or coffee before any future u/s to give the baby a jolt to dance a little!

  35. GrapeCrush

    grapefruit / 4823 posts

@Mrs Bicycle: i've only been told to drink water before my dating ultrasound. every time i come in with a full bladder for an NT scan or an anatomy scan they've sent me to the bathroom to go during the middle of it, so see if it would help move the baby to better positions for pictures/views.

  36. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Mrs Bicycle: I didn't drink water. In fact, I emptied my bladder part way through, and it didn't make a difference.

.@Mrs D: My baby doesn't like to move around much either. Do you think that means we'll have mellow "easy" babies when they come out?

@StrawberryBee: That tutu is ADORABLE!! Are you planning on doing newborn photos? That looks like the most perfect newborn photo tutu.

@Mrs D: Cute stuff! It's so hard to resist buying outfits for LO. SO HARD! haha

@Mrs Bicycle: Good luck at your Anatomy Scan! Do you plan on finding out the gender? I wasn't given any specific instructions on drinking water before the US. I had a little orange juice before I left the house and baby was cooperative. If they didn't mention anything to you then I wouldn't worry about it. Have fun!

@JessKas: No colostrum here yet either, but I did have a dream last night about breastfeeding and pumping! It was so weird!!

Hubby looked at my glucose drink yesterday, and there’s 50 (FIFTY!!!!) grams of sugar in it. I think Monsters have less sugar, shoo!! Oh. My. Goodness. DS is going to be having a party in my belly when I down that drink. You have to consume it all in 5 minutes and it’s like a 14oz bottle. Hope it doesn’t taste gross!

@delight: I said no, but hubby said yes. He’s circumcised. I’m kind of letting the hubby decide this one even though I didn’t find it (medically) necessary.

And 30 stitches?! (O_O) Ho.ly. Cow. *super cringe*

@strawberrybee: Cute tutu! Can’t wait to see your LO in it!

@Grace: Adorable fabric designs!! I love em!

@Mrs D: Super cute stash you got at Carter’s!!

@Mrs Bicycle: I’ve NEVER been told to drink anything before my ultrasound (thank goodness because my bladder is the size of a pea!). They actually make me leave a sample of urine before each appointment, and have gone through all my appointments on an empty bladder. No issues on finding the baby’s heartbeat on the Doppler or issues during the ultrasounds.

Good luck at your anatomy scan today!! Can’t wait to see if you’re team hot dog or team hamburger.

@Grace: Thanks! I think I just needed to get more sleep. I crashed at about 9pm on the sofa last night.

    Dittos loving the owls fabric!

@Mrs D: ahhh, I love the mint green striped one! they're all so cute (and isn't Carter's just addictive?)

@Mrs Bicycle: Yes, they have me drink water at every ultrasound (but not the elective ones at my non-dr's office). I think it ramped down from 32oz at the first NT scan to 20oz at the anatomy and possibly as low as 16 after that (but I'm not scheduled for any more currently, besides the elective 3D). 20 wasn't as bad as 32! I think each office is different (and maybe the equipment makes a difference?).

@skipper2010: you betcha! already got the photographer lined up :).

@delight: Cute sleepers! I have one of those types of sleepers and I'd really like more! They seem super easy for diaper changes!

@Grace: Nice fabric! My mom has totally gone a little nuts too. She's made 5 receiving blankets and is planning on making some sleep sacks as well!

@Mrs D: so cute!! Love the butterfly on the bum of the bottom left PJ's!

@Mrs Bicycle: GOOD LUCK! They told me to drink a lot of water, but I didn't. Every time I've gone it's been unbearable so I drank a little water on the way there and that was it. They had no troubles during the u/s (although he really wasn't shy about showing his bits! lol).

@Alivoo01: I've heard it tastes like the orange drink (not the pop but not the juice either... the "drink", ya know?) from McD's. Which I secretly love... so... I'm probably going to like it.
