@StrawberryBee: Hmfph, you'd think an OB would be of help. Hopefully, your GP can give you answers.

    @Mrs D: I have no words.

Canadian bees - Babies R Us has their cribs (and other furniture) on clearance until Wed, just in case you were interested.

What happened in Boston is just unthinkable and so senseless, I can't even process.

Still haven't heard back from a dr, but the person I originally spoke to called back and said that I need to check with the local health department to get direction on what I should do. She again mentioned calling my ob, even though she knows I already asked and was told to call them! And people wonder why I have a difficult time trusting doctors.

Found out that the person in my office who was diagnosed over the weekend with bacterial meningitis is currently in the ICU and on a respirator.

@StrawberryBee: How come after May 14th you go every two weeks? Is that standard? I haven't even seen an OB yet. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm still going to my regular doctor but hopefully I get passed on to an OB soon.

What an awful thing to have happen in Boston. I don't even know what to say. I watched the news coverage in complete shock.

@delight: not sure, I just do what they say! After 28 weeks they want to see me at 30, 32, 34 etc. So far all of the appointments have been very quick. Just check heartbeat, blood pressure, weight, pee, and now measuring my belly.

    Edit: just found this!

@StrawberryBee: seriously...give the pregnant lady some answers WTF? If I speak to my mom today I'll ask my step dad his thoughts on this.

@delight: I couldn't watch the coverage - Copley square (about 2 blocks from the bombs) is where I worked when I lived there. Patriots Day is such a cheerful celebration there and now its been ruined. Its just so sad....

@delight: I have been going every 4 weeks since my first appointment. Most appointments are just weight, pee in a cup for protein test, measure belly and listen to heartbeat. 24 weeks will be boring again, 28 will be blood work and boring stuff (blood work also at 8 weeks and 15 weeks), 32 weeks is boring and then I go 34, 36, 37, 38, 39 and 40.

They did check my cervix at my last appointment because I have had a decent amount of pressure down there and maybe some cramping. I had part of my cervix removed when I was 18 because of cancer - so she said they may start checking my cervix if I still notice the pressure. The good thing was my cervix was thick and long (I think those are the two terms she used) so no reason for worry!

@Modern Daisy: when i was having my shower, someone suggested that i put a different size of clothes are different invites. she said she went to a shower once where the person had on each invite something along the lines of 'if you would like to purchase clothes, please buy size _____', or something like that, maybe a poem or something? and you have the sizes spread out. she said the girl got a lot of clothes that were a range of size since people went off of that. i didn't do that because i much more wanted things that were on my registry...haha i was afraid people were going to go right out and buy clothes. i hardly got any newborn though. most women know better. :o)

@delight: I haven't been to my OB yet either. I have a sneaking suspicion that once I'm transferred to her, it will be the biweekly (?) appointments.

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@StrawberryBee: @Grace: @Mrs D: thanks for all the appointment info! I was told I'd see an OB at 32 weeks but I think at my appointment Friday ill ask for sooner. Not that anything is going wrong but I'm ready to see one. Oh and MrsD I'm glad everything looks ok with your cervix, I'm sure that has been a worry for you.

How is everyone sleeping these days? I'm only getting up once or twice but I find it hard to stay on my left side. I even got one of those pregnancy wedges to keep you stable but still end up on back! So weird because I never was a back sleeper before.

As for baby clothes, I don't even really know what we are going to do for newborn sizes. I have a couple things but I didn't want to buy much before knowing the gender. I guess I'll have to buy a couple things. What are the other Team Green girls doing for the first couple weeks after birth? I am sure my mom
And MIL will buy stuff right away as soon as baby arrives but I'm nervous I won't have enough for the first few days!

@lawbee11: I heard Taylor Swift's 22 on radio on way to work! I loved your week 22 bump picture thread!

@delight: Sleep is good, so long as I remember to wear my light-weight bra. It's weird - I don't feel much breast soreness, but it must be enough to keep me tossing and turning.

I figure (once I decide what season it's going to be at the end of August), that simple lightweight sleepers will be the way to go.

  10. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@Mrs D: thanks, I'd appreciate that! I also talked to the girls in the department next to us and one of them is going to ask the pregnant girl from their department if she got any direction from her doctor. She's further along than me, we were chatting a bit in the kitchenette last week.

@delight: I have no problem staying on my side, but I find that my hips are now starting to hurt if I stay on the same side for longer than a few hours. I do feel like I'm waking up more often. Sometimes to give my hips a rest I stay on my back for 10 minutes or so.

Had a crazy dream last night...something about flying dog-pigs, and an alien invasion!

    grapefruit / 4187 posts

@sarbear: That is a great idea, but just like you, I hesitate to do that because I don't even want to give people the idea to buy clothes. You know what though, I will actually tell my shower hosts to spread out the sizes if people ask. I already told them to say "no newborn" if people ask about clothes, but spreading out the sizes is also a great idea!

@delight: I was also never a back sleeper, but every time I wake up I'm on my back. I asked my Dr about it and he said it was fine as long as I was making an effort not to lay flat on my back while awake. In general I'm sleeping pretty well except for last night, for some reason I slept really bad and now I'm exhausted

@Mrs D: It is absolutely not terrible to want to hire a cleaning person. I think it sounds like a great idea! I am a few hours south of Dallas, so unfortunately I don't have any recommendations for things to do there with kids, but Babe's is one of my favorite restaurants and we always go there when we're in Dallas, so you should definitely check that out!

@StrawberryBee: Glad your appointment went well yesterday. Hope you get some answers from your doctor soon about the bacterial meningitis!

@delight: Gah! I love her and that song. I meant to comment on the other thread but forgot--your bump is so cute!! I am glad you finally revealed yourself! I am sleeping pretty well. Up one or two times a night to go to the restroom, but I usually fall right back to sleep. I have a Snoogle, so that has really helped.

Anyone else been feeling kicks/movement much higher? Yesterday I felt some above my belly button, almost as far up as my ribs! I have no idea what she's doing in there because later in the day they were back low again. I still can't tell if I am feeling a foot/hand/knee.

@Mrs D: I’m absolutely heartbroken about the marathon and the bombing. Really people?! What’s wrong with you gah!!! Random, crazy acts like this make me so nervous and scared about bringing a child into this world. I know advancement in technology is supposed to be for the better, but omg!!!

@delight: I’ve seen my OB from the beginning, and I go see her every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then I go every two weeks. After 32 weeks, I see her weekly until delivery time!

Despite my pea sized bladder, I’ve been sleeping through the night up until this week. I don’t have to get up and pee, but a restful sleep is none existent. I also wake up on my back 98% of the time even though I start out sleeping on my left side. I try to be cautious about sleeping on my back, but that’s the only comfortable position I can find. *sad face*

As for clothes, we just a bought a light assortment according to season/weather of how big the baby would be then. We’re trying to keep it light since we don’t know how big or small DS will be come that time, and since Carter’s is just down the street, the hubby said he wouldn’t mind running there to pick up more clothes. Plus, their clearance rack is always full of cute stuff in various seasons (long and short sleeves) so no worries on items being “more expensive” later on.

@StrawberryBee: I’ve always had vivid, wild dreams, but I think pregnancy makes them happen more frequently!

@lawbee11: Babe’s – mmmmmm. Mashed potatoes and gravy mixed in with the sweet cream corn and a side of green beans – omg! HEAVEN!! Then their biscuits and fried chicken or the chicken strips?! *drool* It’s barely 9am and I’m already drooling about heavy, greasy food. Haha!
As for movement, they’re still pretty down low. Like the underside of my belly.

My belly button is getting pretty flat, and according to the hubby, it’s a lil off centered now. Haha! How’s everyone’s belly button doing?

@Alivoo01: @lawbee11: Ha - I just looked through the Babe's menu online - OMG...pregnant ladies should not be given access to things like that. I may seriously get KFC for lunch...its no where near as good I am sure but I think I need a biscuit stat after seeing those pictures.

@Alivoo01: OK, I may need to make a trip to Dallas soon. Now that I am pregnant they'd probably lose money after I eat there!

@Mrs D: The best part is that the sides and biscuits are bottomless! So if you run out of mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, etc. all you do is ask for more and they will bring you as much as you want! It's very dangerous.

  16. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@lawbee11: I went to a place called Loveless Cafe in Nashville (also known as heaven on earth) they have the most amazing biscuits ever. I am a carb lover to start with and I think I ate 6 biscuits...no shame...oh my gosh...I am almost drooling right now thinking about it...

@Mrs D: @lawbee11: Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!! Forgot the sides and biscuits are UNLIMITED!! It's the best!!!!!

@SKIPPER2010: My back is sore almost always, the heartburn *ugh*, becoming more short of breath, minor sinus pressure. I think that's it. So far no swelling and I'm hoping to keep it that way for as long as possible! We'll see how well that works out.

@LAWBEE11: Love the pattern! It's so cute, I can't wait to see your nursery! Also, I've totally been waiting too, yesterday this guy on the train was being a real jerk so I unzipped my jacket and shoved my belly in his face. He for sure noticed it but didn't budge. The lady sitting next to him was shooting daggers at him with her eyes. LOL.

@STRAWBERRYBEE: I keep thinking our boy will be tiny. Both my husband and I are small people, so I'm just going to hope that our son takes after us and I don't have to deliver a 10lb-er. haha.

@JAMIELEE: have you seen any cute ties or bow ties for boy props? Maybe even suspenders? I think those would be super cute ideas!

@ALIVOO01: I'm not sure! What's a Hi-C drink? Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one curious about belly buttons! HA. Mine is REALLY SHALLOW. Like almost flat.

@MRS D: DO IT. Honestly, if I could hire a cleaning lady I would in a heartbeat. I don't think it's terrible at ALL. I don't understand this stuff in Boston, is there any reason anyone would target that?? Is the marathon for a specific cause that someone could hate on? Sorry to be so ignorant of it, I haven't had time to check out much of the news the past 2 days... I just don't understand why anyone would do this.

@MRS HEDGEHOG: Oh gosh, I can't even imagine what the heat will be like. We're just getting some spring weather here (39F) and I've already noticed I get hot and sweaty way faster. I can't imagine once the summer temps get here!

@SARBEAR: Interesting idea about the clothes! My mother-in-law said that she was at a shower where they did it by age, so on the invite it said something about if you were between the ages of __ & __ you bought size __ for the baby, and so on and so forth. I forgot that she told me that until you mentioned this!

@delight: ugh. I'm not getting up much in the night, maybe once. However, finding a comfortable position to sleep in has been a real big struggle and it's been keeping me up for far too long at night. Then, if I DO get up in the night I have to go through the same thing all over again just to get comfortable. It sucks, I'm not looking forward to the 3rd tri sleep!

Also, does anyone know why everything you read or hear says to try the LEFT side for sleep? What's wrong with the right side?

@lawbee11: totally been feeling some high kicks/punches. haha Most are right around my belly button but every once in a while I get a high one. Our uterus's are expanding!!! aaaaaaaah.

@Alivoo01: @Mrs D: @lawbee11: Why are you talking about such delicious sounding food at 9am? I feel this is so unfair and we don't even have "Babes"? How will you ever make this up to me? I'm suddenly starving for mashed potatoes and gravy and biscuits.

AFM: I found my first legit stretch mark. I even had DH confirm it. *sad face*

@.twist.: I believe there's an artery on your right side that can get squished. I know I woke up once on my right side and my side had fallen asleep. I don't worry about it though - every pregnant person I know says just to sleep how you are comfortable and that you'll wake up from uncomfortableness before you do any harm.

@.twist.: I'm like you with the sleep. I cannot find a comfortable position. I was a stomach sleeper before, so that's obviously out. I usually wake up on my back, and I've never been a back sleeper, but when I try to go to sleep I toss and turn.

I just got an email from MyHabit that my diaper bag has shipped. Should be here Thursday!!

So I had a pregnant lady outburst today. We have these horrible people renting out our basement and it's been one problem after another since they moved in mid-January. Like last week, they left the door from our house to our garage open overnight...and it's not the first time it's happened. And every time I do laundry, she comes upstairs and gives me attitude about how she needs to do laundry...every time...

So today I get up, and the door is open again...mind you, its none too warm outside in Michigan, so we're basically paying to heat the uninsulated garage and letting who knows what into the house, and letting my animals out. So I wasn't happy about that. Then I'm doing laundry and trying to help my computer illiterate mother in law with her iPad. The girl goes into the laundry room, and takes my laundry out of the washer, adds it to the full load that is still drying in the dryer and puts her clothes in the washer! I flipped out. I mean, who does that! Not only is it going to break the dryer by overloading it, but I don't put everything in the dryer so she probably shrunk my jeans...Ugh!

I'm seriously irate about this whole situation. Short of evicting them, which is next on the list, I don't know what to do. They already think I'm mean, but they haven't even had the full brunt of pregnant lady crazy yet! Lol. Just had to vent for a bit.

  24. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@JamieLee: Whoa, that's ballsy. Doesn't she know that you ALWAYS keep the landlord happy? Otherwise, they don't fix things too often. I'm glad you flipped out. That's not cool to mess with laundry.

So I talked with the lady from the health department and she doesn't feel I need to get the antibiotics (since I'd prefer not to take them while pregnant if possible -- I haven't even taken tylenol yet this pregnancy). I'm just going to watch for symptoms and cross my fingers!

@.twist.: I guess that's the one good thing about being bigger...easier to deliver a smaller baby than the other way around! ;). I'll have to ask mom how big I was when I was born (or dig out the baby book).

    I weigh 185 as of yesterday's exam...wah.

Congrats on the car seat, take pics! I think our mattress was supposed to be delivered today (though that's not nearly as exciting).

@JamieLee: Uhm, ew? A little common courtesy on their part would go a long way!

Okay, so I'm a slacker when it comes to posting. I can't go back and reply to ALL of you (or else I'd be here all night. So, here's some replies in no particular order.

    1. My belly button is totally getting flat. I can see the bottom of it, its ridiculous (I've always had a REALLY deep belly button).
    2. Got home from work today, and DH is like "Whoa - check out your cankles!" Yes, I AM swelling already, thank you very much (its only 10 degrees here too...can't imagine what it will be like when it gets hot)
    3. My SIL bought the baby some pink, sparkly, leopard-print Sperry Topsiders yesterday. They are hilarious and absolutely adorable!
    4. Work is making me mega cranky - mostly just the girl I sit with. She says everything in the most condescending way possible, and tries to blame all of her mistakes on me. Normally I could tolerate it. Pregnant-me cannot.
    5. Going to Atlanta next week!! We're headed to a conference, but I am insanely excited for all of the food (the whole conference is catered by food trucks). Hubby and I are food people, so we WILL be tracking down all of the wonderful things we can't get to eat here in Canada (and bringing back a CASE of Vanilla Coke and Cherry Pepsi!)

    1) I think I found our Daycare...its a little further than the first one we went to but I got a much better vibe from it. Its about 5 mins from work, 10-15 mins from home and from DH's work!

    2) In the processing of locking down a newborn session - $260 for 4 hours, all props, plus a CD with around 100 photos plus rights!

@redsmarties: So, 2 things. I need to live vicariously through the people who have little girls, so if you take photos of the pink, sparkly leopard print that would be amazing. Also, on a similar note, I love food too and any food truck food pics would be awesome too. kaithnx.

@Mrs D: YAY! 10 - 15 for a daycare is pretty awesome!!! So nice to know you feel comfortable with the people who will be taking care of such precious cargo!

@Grace: YAY! kicking babies are the best! (I say that now but it may change by 38 weeks!! Haha)

So, I got our car seat yesterday and I was so confused for a good 3/4 of an hour. Figuring out how to get it out of the base was so hard. Also figuring out how to get the canopy thing up over the back was also hard. Shockingly, and by fluke, once I figured out the canopy (which was hiding the oh-so-easy base button) I immediately figured out how to get it out of the base.

@Grace: Hooray for kicks!! Isn't it the most crazy but awesome feeling!!!

@.twist.: awesome car seat!! This is my next purchase decision to make.

I've been MIA lately with a rediculous work schedule, but also because I've been taking the time to enjoy the start of SPRING which has finally decided to show up I'm working evenings for a project at work the next three days and just spend 2 glorious hours on the awesome walking trails with my pup! I think I even got a little sun on my face.

We started renovations to our basement today... Our house was built in the 1940's and I'm terrified that our contractor is going to uncover nasty surprises during the demolition (I watch WAY too much HGTV and have nightmares about knob and tub wiring, leaky foundations, rotting boards). So far so good, though. The plan is to move our office to the basement and make the former office space (which is next to our room) the nursery. Hopefully the renos will only take 3ish weeks... it would take less, but the city needs to come in and inspect at 3 stages of the work.

Baby-wise, I'm feeling really good lately. Only complaint is pains in my lower back and down my left leg (SI-joint, I think). She kicks quite a bit, especially after supper. People who didn't know I was pregnant (like acquaintances at work) are starting to comment now, which is fun!

Next appointment is May 8th - which will be for my glucose tolerance test. We will also start the referral process to my OB. I'm really excited with our choice and hope she has space in her practice; a friend who is an Obs/Gyne resident said that the OB we chose would be her #1 choice for bedside manner and skill!!

That's about it from me. I am reading and enjoying all of your posts and am glad to hear everyone is doing well!

  39. Ocean girl

@Mrs D: Great news on the daycare - that is super close for both of you!!

We found out that our neighbor across the street runs a home daycare. We've lived in our house for almost two years and have always suspected she did (due to the fact that parents drop off and pick up their kicks when we're leaving/coming home from work) but never really spoke to her other than a quick hello/Merry Christmas, etc... I stopped by with the dog to meet the kiddies the other day and chatted with her. I didn't ask about space yet, or if she even takes babies that are 1yo, but plan to over the next few weeks. It would be so ideal!

@.twist.: My dog has been extra needy/clingy with me lately. She also has been smelling my, errrr crotch region, a lot! Normally she only does this to men... does pregnancy make me smell like a man little doggy?? She's also been more gentle on walks lately - normally she's a puller and lately it's been all loose-leash. She knows something is up.

@.twist.: We bought our car seat back in February, but it’s still in the box in our garage. Maybe I should open it and make sure everything is okay, just in case right? Haha!

@redsmarties: Ditto on the deep belly button! Mine used to be really deep too so it’s kind of weird I’m starting to see the bottom of it! I’m a fan of Cherry Coke vs Cherry Pepsi. You should try cherry coke when you’re in the states!

@Mrs D: Your daycare location sounds terrific! We’re still on the hunt… Sigh.

@Grace: Yay for your first baby kick!! Aren’t they awesome?! I totally get giddy when I feel DS move, even if it’s brief.

@JamieLee: First off, wtf renters?! Really?! That’s just common sense about the laundry isn’t it?! How rude!! Go you for setting her straight, sheesh!

REAL vanilla syrup?! Oh man… sounds amazing!!

@Ocean girl: Home renovations are always awesome, and I’m jealous you have a basement. As a kid, I’ve ALWAYS wanted a basement to go play in. haha! Our office will be our nursery too. And the home day care across your street sounds like a jackpot! Hope she’s everything you want!
