@Grace: Boy names are hard and everything I've tossed out there the hubby vetos. I like the name - it's not main stream, but yet still kind of unique. Everyone in our family seems meh about it though. Hubby is practically in love with it so DS name will have Maddox somewhere in it. Just a matter of it being First or Middle.
@StrawberryBee: Between late 1st trimester and early 2nd trimester, I did wear a panty liners bc the discharge was so frequent (TMI - sorry).
And I love the name Ella! So pretty!
@Modern Daisy: This was hubby's main complaint when we started our registry also. He was like, "why do you keep registering for these small items like shampoo and lotion?! We can buy that stuff ourselves. Register for larger/more important items!" We still have a good amount of smaller ticket items, but the hubby found them more useful than say baby powder. He also wanted to refrain us from registering for any items that went beyond the infant stage so no sippy cups or teething items, etc.

@StrawberryBee: Beautiful name! I love how nicely Ella flows with Margaret.
@Modern Daisy: I agree that it would be convienent to get the bigger items. My shower is going to be after baby comes, so I've resigned myself to buying everything.
@Alivoo01: I very much agree that boy names are hard! If we have a boy, we'll probably end up deciding at the hospital. I wouldn't worry if the family is meh. Once they see how cute he is, they'll start loving the name.

@Alivoo01: I actually just deleted most of the toiletry items from our registry! I feel the same way as your DH - we don't need baby shampoo as much as we need our stroller or one of the many carrying/sitting devices.
@Grace: I thought that we should just buy most of the big ticket items ourselves, but DH was totally against it. He thinks that there are people in our lives who will want to buy us a bigger ticket gift, so we should let them do it. But so far three of those people have bought from our registry and they bought up the smaller things!

@StrawberryBee: Love that we have similar decorating tastes!!! And love the name!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Modern Daisy: I had a similar mindset to you with registering. I have registered for primarily bigger items (I dont think I have much under $25). I did put some bath stuff on there because it was suggested to me that people will buy it anyways so you may as well share the brand you want. Same with bottles - I put them on there just to direct people. I plan to do some major returning and re-purchasing to prioritize the items I need vs what people actually get me! I told DH to plan to buy at least 1 or 2 LARGE ticket items just in case - we'll see. Maybe those who have bought your smaller stuff are getting gc's too for you?

@Modern Daisy: When is your shower? Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised?
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@Mrs D: That is smart! I purposefully registered for a lot of items from Buy Buy Baby because I hear they're great with returns and exchanges. I did delete some of the smaller toiletry items, but I will add them back on if our bigger items get purchased.
@Grace: Both showers are in June, so I still have a lot of time, but I've just been a little surprised so far at the choices people have made and it worries me a little that no one will spring for the bigger items..

@Grace: can't do Jamie as a nickname because that's my name...lol! It's also SIL's ex husbands name and he's a total a-hole...

@Modern Daisy: Meh, people don't go shopping until the week or two before. There's lots of time!
@JamieLee: Lol, I'm slow. Although, wouldn't be the first time a child was named after a parent.

Whoa - trying to catch up with you ladies after a week away! Had a good time in Atlanta - other than my fall which I posted about somewhere else.
To everyone who posted names - I love them all! Maddox is awesome, and I love James (as first or middle)- its so classic. And Ella is my cousin's daughter's name - too cute! We've decided on Kennedy Anne, and DH calls her Kennedy all the time now.
Go for my glucose screen after my next midwives appt on May 15 - couldn't book any more time off work to go sooner. Hopefully a 28-week test won't skew things too badly. I'm worried about failing because of my PCOS/insulin resistance. I guess we'll wait and see.
Has anyone else started swelling? My feet and ankles are SO puffy at the end of the day - its really ridiculous. After travelling/flying Sunday, it looked like I was baking two loaves of bread in my shoes - they were expanding over the top. Ridiculous.
Can't believe tomorrow is MAY! Its our wedding anniversary, but also its kind of a turning point...there are only 3 months left! I've got twelve weeks of work left until I'm on mat leave - where is the time going?!

@Grace: that's true, I don't know if a boy would want the same name as his mom...lol!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@.twist.: @Alivoo01: @Grace: @Mrs D: Thanks! I kept on coming back to Ella, so I gave in even though it's popular now ^_^;;. Plus DH liked it. I guess he gets a say ;). Margaret is a family name on his side.
@redsmarties: Welcome back, and sorry to hear about your fall! I love Kennedy, it's so pretty :3. It's funny, someone was just asking me if I was swelling at all today. Not that I've noticed yet, but I'm sure it's to come. My 1 hour glucose test is tomorrow morning. I'm trying to avoid sugary things tonight just in case it skews the results.
I guess I was subconsciously picking larger items for our registry, because there are more big things on there than small ones. But I don't have many friends, so I'm really not anticipating a big haul from our registry.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@redsmarties: Sorry about your fall! I assume everything is ok now? I'm assuming that 28 week GD test would be ok because that's when they are planning mine for. I swell every once in a while....or once in a while I wear too-tight-socks.
@JamieLee: Touché!
I'm off on our babymoon tommorow! We're going to Victoria BC where I hear it's sunny and warm and the cherry trees are in bloom! I'm super excited because it snowed AGAIN here! WTF? It's nearly May!!
clementine / 930 posts
@Grace: have fun on your baby moon! Hope you have some wonderful weather to enjoy. Ours finally took a turn for the better over the weekend. Don't know where you are located, but hoping your local weather turns spring-ish soon! Our cherry trees aren't blooming yet though...take some pictures while you're in Victoria!

Orange drink wasn't so bad; tasted like flat sweeter orange soda. Now the one hour wait begins!
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@redsmarties: I think I said this before when you announced it but I love Kennedy! I have started noticing that my hands are a bit swollen (thanks to my tight wedding rings) but thats it - and its not every day!
@Grace: Enjoy your babymoon!!!
@StrawberryBee: I think mine isn't until June but I am dreading this orange drink!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Mrs D: if you have even a passing liking for orange soda, you'll be fine. I drank it in a minute lol.
Ella's hopping now!
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@redsmarties: Yes, I noticed that I now have cankles - awesome..
@Grace: Hooray for baby moon! I just got back from mine, DH and I went to Phoenix. Kind of random, but he actually had several meetings there for work this week so we flew in early and spent the weekend. The weather was perfect, it was sunny and in the mid 90's which isn't too hot since it's a dry heat. It also refuses to get warm in NYC, it's still in the 60's this week and chilly but I refuse to wear my coat anymore!
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Anyone else getting really bad bacne (or backne?) I noticed it starting to get bad a couple of weeks ago and now it's so bad I actually can't wear tank tops. It started to clear up a little in the AZ sun but now that I'm back in NYC I expect it to get worse.
I actually took accutane about 7 years ago and that totally cleared up the acne on my chest and back so I'm a little surprised to see it come back so bad.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@redsmarties: Sorry to hear about the fall, and how frightening!! Welcome back and omg, I LOVE Kennedy!! Such a pretty name for a girl!!
And I haven't noticed swelling yet. I thought my ankles were swelling this past weekend, but I don't pay much attention to them in general so I can't confirm.
@Grace: Have fun on your babymoon! I'm jealous, and cherry trees in blossom - lucky duck! Enjoy the warmer/nicer weather!
@Modern Daisy: I got bacne early in the 2nd trimester, but it has cleared up on its own. It was annoying because I'd be showering or itching my back and be like what the... since I don't normally get bacne. However, my facial acne is still flaring up once in awhile.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Modern Daisy: I had a spike in acne issues in Tri 1 but it has since cleared up pretty well!
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Alivoo01: I really like Maddox Carter!
@Modern Daisy: I am worried we won't get some of the big ticket items. I am just hoping we get a majority! Or at least gift cards. We didn't register for any toiletries for the same reason. I did register for an Aveeno gift basket and it comes with shampoo, soap, diaper rash ointment, etc. I think it's $25-30 and is enough to get us started.
@redsmarties: LOVE Kennedy! So cute I've noticed a little swelling around my ankles in the evening, but I think it was because I was walking around in crappy $5 flip flops from Old Navy. I've started wearing more supportive shoes and it seems to have helped. I also read on the APA website that crossing your legs is bad for swelling (and I normally cross mine all the time), so I am trying to break that habit.
@StrawberryBee: Hope your glucose test went well!
@Grace: Have fun on your babymoon!
@Modern Daisy: I haven't noticed any backne, but I have facial acne that comes and goes. It sucks!
A friend forwarded this article to me, so I thought I would pass it along. I posted it in another thread, so some of you may have already seen it. I found it really helpful!

@JamieLee: @Mrs D: @Modern Daisy: @Alivoo01: @lawbee11: Thanks! Got an extra scan at the airport (looking for residue) and the guy wants to check my waistband. He got completely kerflummoxed by the panel on the maternity pants.
@Modern Daisy: my acne has gotten crazy since the beginning of pregnancy, but not so much with the backne. Just ma face.
@lawbee11: That article still has quite a bit of stuff!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@Modern Daisy: Thank goodness I'm not the only one with cankles, lol. I'm seriously trying to wear pants to work as long as possible. Cover those babies up!
@lawbee11: We registered for the same Aveeno gift basket - I figure that ONE bottle of baby shampoo is going to last ages - why would I need a ton?
@StrawberryBee: Hope your glucose test went well!
We're headed out for our anniversary tonight, and I'm totally lamenting the fact that there will be no margaritas to celebrate, as there have been on every other anniversary. That's okay...I'll just have a great dessert instead!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Grace: LMAO!!! All my jeans are full panels and I wear them as such sometimes so in order for the security to check my waist band, I'd have to lift my shirt to my boob then pull down my panel. That'd be so awkward and embarassing yet hilarious.
@redsmarties: Have an awesome anniversary celebration, and yes on yummy dessert!!!

So...Amazon Mom...has anyone else sorted out if this is worth it? 20% off diapers and such seems tempting! Plus free shipping and no tax?!?! Thoughts...

Oh boy alive had a busy few days and it's going to be hard to catch up! I love the names floating around. Ella is one of our top picks, but I am pretty set on Ava Elizabeth if we have a girl. I love Zachary for a boy.
@redsmarties: glad to see you back, sorry about your fall. I'll have to find your other post and read what happened! Kennedy is a very lovely name too!
@StrawberryBee: hope your glucose test went well. I never heard my results from last week, so I am assuming all is fine.
@lawbee11: thanks for that article, it's really helpful! Makes me realize how much we still need to get though!
As for me, I started my prenatal yoga. I ended up knowing 3 other people in the class which is fun. We are going to start going for ice cream after. I enjoyed the class a lot! I'm hoping it helped to stretch my legs out so I don't wake up with leg cramps tonight. Anyone else getting leg cramps at night? They are so painful, aahhhhhhhhh!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@lawbee11: Thanks for the list of newborn necessities!
@redsmarties: Hope you had a great anniversary dinner (and dessert...yum!)
@Alivoo01: haha, I so had the same experience with airport security and the full panel jeans I was wearing. Completely threw the girl for a loop ;D.
@Mrs D: I'm (hopefully) not doing disposables, so I haven't really looked into Amazon Mom.
@delight: Thanks! and I would so have called the dr just to verify lol. But then again, I'm already overweight and nervous about GD.
Had a great conversation with my bosses yesterday; and mostly what I took away from it is that I really need to have a conversation with HR about how to activate my short term disability when the time comes, forms my dr has to sign to execute it (FYI!), what I accrue during short term (sounds like no vacation or sick days), etc.
FYI, apparently I'll need to pay my medical and dental monthly contributions while short term is in effect, since it's the insurance company paying me directly, instead of via my normal company paycheck.
I'll also have 31 days to add Ella to our policy after she's born.
AND, we got our open enrollment paperwork in the mail last night, and WOOOHOOO, coverage is still great and nothing really increased from last year! My company's weird in that our coverage year is July through June.
The paperwork we were sent by HR last night suggests that breast pumps will be covered ("Pregnant and postpartum women will now have access to comprehensive lactation support and counseling from trained providers, as well as breastfeeding equipment") but a call to Aetna this morning still said only if medically necessary, even on the new plan. I'm hoping that gets updated.
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: I was just told that the doctor had to write a "prescription" or something like that for the breast pump to get one from the medical equipment company. Maybe that's what they mean...
nectarine / 2530 posts
@JamieLee: Unfortunately they've explained to me that medically necessary means that in addition to the dr writing an rx, there has to be a reason for requiring the breast pump (that without it, the baby would be unable to eat). Examples I was given is if the baby is in the NICU and we're physically separated from each other, or the baby is allergic to formula.
nectarine / 2530 posts
In addition to having a positive conversation with my bosses, they were also fine with me changing my work hours when I return so that I can start and leave a half hour earlier, and having a minifridge under my desk so that I can store pumped milk and breast pump accessories there :D. I know that there's a pump room somewhere in the building and will still check it out, but I can't imagine it being easier than being at my desk. That way I can just closer the door and lower the blinds, and still type away at my keyboard (if the hands free bra works) or answer phone calls (if the BP isn't too loud *lol*).
I'll have to think up some clever sign so that people don't just barge in on me ;).

@Modern Daisy: I put everything and anything on our registry and initially wasn't going to put some of the more major big items on (ie: stroller mainly). The big ticket items I want are pretty specific and I didn't want people thinking I was being an ungrateful brat if they didn't buy exactly what I wanted. However, my MIL scolded me saying that some people LIKE to buy big ticket items or even group gifts and I need to put them on. So I did! haha. I think she wants to buy our stroller!
@Alivoo01: Boy names were totally hard! Same as you, every name I suggested to DH, he hated! I am shocked that we so spontaneously came to agree on Lukas.
@redsmarties: Yay for anniversaries! I hope you had a great time out and a delicious dessert! I have totally been eating a lot more dessert to replace my wine these days! As for swelling, nothing too bad. Sometimes, if I've been super busy at work, I do notice that my feet are swollen in my heels, but otherwise (thankfully) I have been swollen free so far.
@StrawberryBee: Doesn't matter if it's a little popular right now, as long as you two love it!
@Grace: Have fun on your babymoon! Can't wait to hear all about it. I haven't been to Vic since I was a little kid and I would love to go back. I second whoever mentioned sharing some pics from your babymoon! I need to live vicariously through you!
@Modern Daisy: I'd love to go to Phoenix too. Man, we really need to get more travelled. sheesh! No bacne yet, at least none that I can see.... Although I have insanely dry skin and it's not great breeding grounds for zits. I'd say that's a good thing, but dry skin has it's down sides too.
@lawbee11: Thanks for the list! I am going to print it off and check off what we've got so far! I also have been trying to be very conscious of NOT crossing my legs since reading your post. Dammit, no swelling. I don't want it!
@Mrs D: I don't think Canada does Amazon mom, which is a shame because I totally think I'd use it. BOO.
@delight: I can't believe you knew 3 people in your class! How random and awesome! I found a class near me at a place I used to take regular yoga, I might drop in one night. Hopefully I have the same luck as you and see someone I know!
@StrawberryBee: That is super crappy about the breast pump clause. Is sanity a medically necessary condition??? How can they really judge what is "medically necessary"??? LAME, I say.
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: that's crappy. Are you in the US? I thought that under the new Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) all insurance companies have to provide free breast pumps to the insured mommies.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@JamieLee: I am. I think it'll still work out (per the info from HR, but they've given me bad info in the past). According to the person I spoke with from Aetna, they're not required to conform to the new policies until 2014.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@.twist.: My next appt is May 15 - midwife and glucose screen!
Had to talk to HR today about when I'm starting maternity leave, so that they can hire a replacement. My last day (as long as things go well) will be July 26. I wanted it to be sooner, but don't really want to sit around at home waiting for the baby to come. Let the countdown begin!
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: 2014! That's a load of you know what. Hope it still works out for you. Mine covers the Medela Swing, but I'm going to see if I can pay the difference to get the Pump in Style or the Freestyle.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@JamieLee: agreed!! I'm going to ask Benefits/HR tomorrow as well. If the contract's not finalized maybe they can push something.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Grace: LOL! That's so funny about the guy at the airport and your maternity pants!
@redsmarties: We went to a wedding last weekend and I had 2 servings of cake to make up for the fact that I couldn't have an apple martini...no shame! Hope y'all had fun! And wow--July 26 will be here before you know it!
@delight: I love Ava! That was DH's first choice for our little girl So awesome that you know other women in your yoga class!
@Mrs D: Hmmm, sounds like a great deal to me!
@StrawberryBee: That is some BS about "medically necessary." My insurance only covers a manual pump, so not really helpful at all!
@.twist.: It's been so hard to not cross my legs--I don't even realize I am doing it half the time! But I'm working on it...
So I had a Zulily credit that I needed to use, and today they have some hospital bag essentials, so I bought these hospital hats for our little girl. Ahhh aren't they so cute?!
