@delight: So far so good on no leg cramps. I had them during the first trimester for like a week so I ate more bananas, but it only seemed to intensify the cramps. Ha! So I quit eating bananas, and the cramps stopped all together.

@StrawberryBee: Look at you being ahead of the game and talking to HR already! I have this on my calendar to talk to them in June. Hope that’s not too late! And my insurance only covers ONE(!!!) manual breast pump. Lame, lame, lame, lame!!

@lawbee11: I always cross my legs too, and am trying to avoid it. Sometimes, it’s just a natural instinct to though. D’oh! And cute hospital bag essentials!

As for me, I'm still finding myself sleeping on my back a majority of the time so I'm propping myself up a lil higher when I sleep so I feel less guilty about it. Ha!

@lawbee11: I saw those and they are adorable! I'm going to order another uddercover tomorrow (code motherhood13 and all you have to pay is shipping :)).

and I can't not cross my legs. My back kills me if I do (I think it does something for my posture). No cankles yet though!

Wow, you guys are chatty! I'm reading along but a little behind and feel like commenting on most stuff... the moment has passed!

Things are good. Had my gestation diabetes class today, and despite the empty carb party being over, it doesn't sound too restrictive.

ahh! i'm soooo bad at keeping up with this thead! but i love browsing it from time to time glad to hear that all you ladies are doing good!

@.twist.: you are awesome at keeping up with the roll call! super impressed. we just found out a few weeks ago.... another boy!

alsoo.... they pushed my due date back (forward?) 2 weeks cause they said baby is measuring small. boo! I thought I was 20.5 weeks at the scan, but they decided to change it to 18.5 weeks. i feel like i've been hovering around 20 week for nearly a month now! oh well! also that means i'm closer to a beginning of september due date -- still gonna check this thread for fun, but you can kick me off the roll call if you like! i won't be offended! hehe

@tysonja: Totally stick around @.twist.: is right I am the other "maybe September" mama who refuses to leave the August boards. Due dates are just guesses anyways!

SO - just got back from a nice weekend in Chicago seeing my sister with DH - nice and relaxing!

FYI - for anyone interested I go my freezer meal cookbooks in the mail today (well while I was gone) and so far Fix, Freeze, Feast seems AMAZING!!!!! Totally recommend it (of course I haven't made any recipes yet) - the book has killer looking recipes - I am totally going to have to re-design my freezer meal prep schedule...

@delight: I like Zachary too, but Zach kinda rhymes with our last name and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

@Sapphiresun: I'm glad the GD doesn't sound like it'll put too much of a cramp in your style!

@tysonja: That is a boo that they pushes you back! It's like being stuck in time. But you are very welcome to stay with us!

@lawbee11: Why can't we cross our legs? I missed that part.

So, I'm in the airport waiting for our flight home. It was such a nice long weekend. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to see everything green!

@tysonja: Yay for a baby boy! How exciting!

@Grace: OMG that is gorgeous!!! Oh, and crossing your legs isn't bad for the baby or anything, I just read on the APA (American Pregnancy Association's) website that crossing your legs can contribute to swelling, so I have been trying to cut the habit because I've noticed a little swelling in my ankles at the end of the day.

@Mrs D: ooh sounds like a great book! I really want to do some freezer meals before baby comes. Unfortunately I broke our freezer because I forgot to shut the door on it and it overheated. Damn Popsicle cravings!

@tysonja: congrats on your baby boy! Please stick around! August, or September, you are always welcome here!

@Grace: beautiful picture! Looks like you had a wonderful weekend! I was so happy all weekend because it was warm and sunny. I love this weather...not too hot yet!

As for me, I splurged and bought a couple pairs of mat shorts this weekend as it was the one thing I was missing. So glad I did!
My MIL is going to the states tomorrow and she is going to try and find Aden & Anais swaddle blankets at Target. They don't have them yet at the targets in Canada. Are those the kind of blankets you girls are planning on using? I've only heard great things about the A&A products.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

@delight: Isn't it nice how warm weather makes things wonderful?

  13. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@tysonja: oh I don't really like motherhood for some reason. I think it is because i find it looks disorganized. I got my shorts at Thyme. I tried on probably 20 pairs cause they were all fitting weird. For some reason the full panel shorts were just not comfy. I ended up getting a cute pink pair that had the under the belly band and a pair of khaki linen shorts with a stretchy waist that you can wear after baby is born too. So if you have Thyme near you try there. They have lots of shorts, but be prepared to spend a little time finding the right pair!

@Grace: Totally! Nice weather is just awesome, especially after the winter we just had. I loved getting out to garden and walking the neighbourhood looking at all the spring flowers.

@tysonja: I checked out old navy too but wasn't impressed with their short selection. I think Thyme is your bet bet. Plus this week if you spend 100$ you get a free onesie for baby.

@delight: @tysonja: So glad I am not the only one put off by motherhoods store layout/state - drives me bonkers and stresses me out!!!

@Grace: holy beautiful - where is this again?

For you Canadian ladies - I'd be happy to source something from target here for you guys. Not sure how much shipping to CA would be but wanted to throw the offer out there for you guys.

I'm taken the new book to work today to flag the recipes I want to make then I'll have DH glance over them and narrow down to the ones he wants. Looks like most recipes make 3 entrees (4-6 servings each) which is perfect.

Also - I am trying out the green smoothie trend. I definitely put in too much spinach today so its a little grassy tasting - but I can still get it down! Hope baby girl Kate likes the jolt of spinach vitamins she is about to get!

DH totally cant feel the kicks yet - cant wait until he can!

@Grace: oh my goodness, that photo is gorgeous!

@delight: on A+A blankets from Target: they're smaller than one the ones you get from Amazon/A+A directly (44x44 instead of 47x47?). FYI. It doesn't sound like a big difference to me but apparently it is lol.

I had a fabulous weekend in this weather, though am definitely paying for it today. Am way out of shape!

Saturday I attended my first dog agility trial in about four months. Even though I took it slow and only ran three classes I ended up skipping the fourth class because my legs and abdominal muscles hurt and I was afraid to overdo it. Which is pretty pathetic, since when you add up the time I was actively running it was only about 2 minutes' worth!

Sunday I attended a casual park wedding about 2 hrs away for a high school friend I haven't seen in about 6 years. Was so awesome catching up with other HS friends who were attending!

I also pounced on this mom who had two young girls (one was less than a year) because she was using the Graco jogging stroller we have on our registry and I wanted a 'real mom's' opinion (all positive, btw! and apparently I got her right after my DH asked her the same question lol). She met the bride (my HSfriend) when the bride was teaching Bradley Method classes. Anyway, we found out that she just moved to my town and probably only lives 10 minutes away from me! I warned her that we're not a very social couple, but we exchanged Facebook friend requests and it'll be nice to know a mom in the area :).

@Mrs D: aww thank you so much for your offer! actually we live just a few minutes away from the washington/british columbia border, so it's just 40 mins to the nearest target in the states
we don't go as often as i thought we would when we first moved here, but it's nice to know it's actually a few minutes closer than driving to downtown vancouver! (which we end up going to weekly, and where dh works... lol) strange how a border can make it seem farther

How involved are you ladies in your shower planning? I don't know if I'm just having major mood swings, but I was in tears yesterday when I found out all of my ideas for my IL shower had basically been discarded (even though they asked me for input early on) and now it's turned into something I definitely didn't want. We originally said we wanted an adults-only shower (the toddlers in the family are super needy and not disciplined at all), we wanted it co-ed, we wanted games and no present opening.

Despite our please to keep it adults-only, kids are now invited because my IL's didn't want to ask my BIL to have his IL's watch his two toddlers that day. Also, my MIL thinks it will be fun to make the women go inside and open presents while the men get to be outside having fun. She doesn't even want games since she and her sister think it's more fun to drink wine and watch. So basically everything I said I didn't want is now happening and they even ignored the theme I suggested which is just kind of icing on the depressing cake.

I've been a BM enough times to know that there is nothing more annoying than trying to throw a shower or bachelorette party for the bride and have her micro manage the entire thing so I do sympathize with them. They're doing all the work and putting a lot of time and effort into it so I shouldn't complain.. right??

Oh, and I also found out that they've been asking DH for input all along and he's been giving it without involving me. As a result the invitations now give instructions to mail gifts to our apartment in NYC instead of bring them to the shower (!!!!) and they're already printed so there is nothing we can do. That really pushed me over the edge yesterday and I wonder if I should just stay 100% out of it since it's making me so mad..

  22. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@Modern Daisy: I'm not supposed to know it's happening but I do (but none of the details). I don't know why they insist on keeping this a surprise when my mother is the worst secret keeper.

On the plus side, if the invitations say mail the presents to your house then there will be minimal presents to open at the shower ;). Unless I'm reading that wrong?

Are you getting another shower with your friends? If so, I would just smile through this one, appreciate that it's done out of love for you, and try to get the shower experience you want at another one.

I honestly don't even want a shower, but I can't seem to convince anyone of that. I was chastised yesterday at the wedding for buying baby clothes (I have, seriously, like 5 friends, plus my coworkers. My coworkers are getting invited to basically two showers...the one I'll have at work and the one at mom's house. I feel bad that they're being hit up twice for gifts just because I have no social life). All of my female relatives are states away. It's awkward wedding shower all over again and I'm honestly dreading it.

  23. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@Modern Daisy: Well - first off I am jealous you are having a shower from your ILs. My MIL has no clue she is supposed to throw me showers. For my wedding shower she sent me an email titled "people to include in shower invite list" and just assumed we'd include them in our families shower. Now granted - it was only 5 or 6 people so NBD.

However, if they wanted your input it is rude for them to now ignore it. However, I think as its ILs and not your family the best bet is always to remain peacekeeper quiet unfortunately. My mom asked for a lot of my input - which I happily gave since my one sister had completely bowed out and my other still involved sister isnt so much on the creative side - now the sister who bowed out says "I hear you have been dictating exactly how you want your shower to be" - um no biotch but someone has to help mom?!

UGH - I wish showers weren't so stressful!

  24. Modern Daisy

    grapefruit / 4187 posts

@StrawberryBee: You read correctly and I thought about that. Yes, it will be nicer to have the gifts mailed directly to us and less to open at the shower, but I was horrified when I found out that was actually printed on the invite! and to make it worse it was all DH's idea - he came up with it, didni't discuss it with me and told his mom and step mom to include that. He feels really bad now and had promised up and down to run things by me first from now on, but honestly the damage is done and now it can't get much worse. I hope your showers work out okay! One of the reasons I wanted co-ed showers is actually because I only have a small group of friends but DH has a million friends so I thought it would be more fun if we could invite them too.

@Mrs D: That is exactly what I needed to hear. The logical part of me is saying that it's my IL's and it's nice that they're doing this in the first place so I should just be grateful and be quiet. I honestly don't know why I care so much, it really might be mood swings! I didn't care at all about the details for my bridal shower that they threw - but I will say that it was pretty unorganized. And I hear you about your sisters being annoying - mine didn't even offer to help at all with my local shower. Thankfully my two best friends took over without even hesitating and they're doing an amazing job. I'm very lucky to have them as friends!

@delight: I agree with you about Motherhood. That store just drives me crazy. It's a little depressing that the only store I can shop in is Thyme though.

@Mrs D: That was Victoria (BC), in the Butchard (sp?) Gardens.

@JamieLee: @MrsD: You know what's weird? My DH can't seem to feel the big kicks either, but he swears he can feel the squirming (you know, where it feels like tickles?)

@Modern Daisy: Personally, I'd just stay out. It sounds like mine is after the baby is here, which kinda defeats the purpose, but I figure I'm just a guest at their party. So, whatever.

@Mrs D: I LOVE truffle salt! Sometimes I open the container and just inhale. SO good!

@Modern Daisy: Sorry to hear about your shower problems! I'm kinda dreading my shower, it's being thrown by my MIL, stepMIL, husband's aunt and my mom. Too many hands in the pot = drama. And they call me about it.

I spent the whole weekend moving along with a rock concert Saturday night. It sure is hard to be on my feet for that long nowadays! I'm starting to feel pregnant for REAL. Belly gets in the way and the little one thumps all the time in there. I can't believe the third tri is so close! Holy moly, soon we'll all have BABIES.

@Mrs D: So glad you had a nice time in Chicago!

@Grace: Gorgeous! Thanks for posting pictures. I feel like I've been there. haha

@delight: The weather has gotten SO NICE here over the last few days, this morning I was standing outside in pants and realized that I definitely need to buy some more shorts/skirts/dress. I was hooooooot. I am super depressed that Thyme is one of the only places I can shop. I was just in Old Navy the other day and their selection was pathetic. I've never heard of Motherhood and have no idea if we even have one. I'll have to google it.

@StrawberryBee: I have noticed the out-of-shapeness too! My walk to work in the mornings is getting increasingly difficult! I'm really starting to notice the extra baby weight.

@Modern Daisy: Oh, I feel for you. I had a HUGE blow out with 3 of my girlfriends about my shower. I had one girlfriend kind of just take over the planning and left out my two best friends and I tried to play peace keeper between them all. Ultimately, I ended up being told I was a terrible friend and had hurt their feelings and just cried myself to sleep for a few days. In the end I told all of them that I don't want any of them to even tell me ANYTHING. Just tell me when and where and I'll show up because I will not be trying to get everyone to play nice.

So, I would just stay out of it. I wish I could be a little more involved because I find it fun, but dealing with it has taken a lot of the fun out of the entire idea of a shower and now I just don't even care any more.

  29. Modern Daisy

    grapefruit / 4187 posts

@.twist.: Oh my goodness I'm sorry to hear what happened with your friends!! And the rational side of me is very aware of the fact that there is nothing more annoying than trying to plan a shower for a friend who keeps butting in and trying to micro manage every detail. So I know I should just stay out, but for some weird reason I got really emotional over some of the decisions that have been made recently. I think it's mostly that my MIL and her sister (DH's aunt) are planning it so THEY will get the most enjoyment out of it - so they totally disregarded all of my suggestions, not that there were many.

But yeah, I have decided to just stay out of it. I don't want to look back and remember how upset I was over the details of my shower, I want to look back and be grateful that people were kind enough to throw one for me! And the more I talk it out on Hellobee and with DH the more I feel like I sound like an ungrateful little brat lol!

  30. .twist.

@Modern Daisy: haha I totally felt/feel like I sounded ungrateful as well. I just thought that since I had such an easy time with 2 of these 3 girls as my bridesmaids, that it would be just as easy for the baby shower, but this 3rd girl kinda threw everything outta whack. I've felt very emotional about it all too, you're definitely not alone in that department. I wish people didn't make things like this so complicated.

I don't know if I'll ever catch up, you girls are pretty chatty

I'm sort of glad I'm not having a baby shower this time, nobody else stepped up to help my Mom out with my LO so I was pretty involved. They're fun though, I'll miss that. And yeah I put smaller things on our registry and that's what we got, except for a couple exceptions.

I'm not sure who brought up the "bacne" but I think that's what I've got. It itches so bad, I've been using coconut oil like crazy. The itchiness may just be my eczema though. It's on my arms and shoulders too.

Speaking of arms, I have got to find some good arm workouts that are ok during pregnancy. I seem to be gaining all my weight in my arms, butt, and thighs. I know squats are out, I've been doing lunges in the morning and night, and chest flies, but it's not helping!! Clothes that fit me when I was farther along with my LO don't fit in my thighs, ack!!! Funny that I've gained the same amount though.

@Grace: That garden looks incredible! Isn't it so nice to get to experience spring (even if its only for a little while!)
@tysonja: Hooray for a boy! The numbers are totally evening out! Sorry about bumping your due date -that's no fun.
@delight: I've been meaning to try on shorts at Thyme - they have some really cute denim ones that I would love.

I have no idea about my shower - my mom has asked about it once, and only in the realm of "So, how far along do you have to be for a shower?" Um...I dunno. Far-ish. So we've registered, and I'm assuming that there will be a shower at some point, but I don't know when/where/who/anything. For someone who does NOT like surprise social situations, we'll see how this goes.

I'm also finding that I am out of breath SO much easier! I have a flight of stairs to walk at work, and I'm gasping by the time I reach the top. Yikes! Baby's totally taking up room in my lung-space.

@PBandBaseball: Hi and welcome!! We're happy to have you :D. Love the name Audrey Grace. I kept on teasing my DH that we should name our little one Audrey, because it doesn't pair well with our last name at all.

I did my first solo appointment at my 24 week checkup (sucked even more because I had to go to a new (to me) location to see that doctor, and I had the stress of finding a spot in the parking garage, scrounging up money to pay the fee upon exit, etc.). Even with all that, it went fine! Speaking of which, @.twist.: my next appointment changed from 5/14 to 5/13 due to a work meeting I couldn't easily get out of.

And I totally nearly twisted my ankle/fell into a wall about twenty minutes ago at work.

Waiting on the insurance person from my dr's office to call me back and explain what "Physician Services - Maternity Delivery and Post Partum Care" covers, since neither Aetna nor my benefits contact in HR seem to know.

And I feel like I've fully popped now!

@PBandBaseball: Welcome! I am also a late August/ early September mama who refuses to leave these August girls alone! I love the name you picked - Grace was a long standing front runner until we finally agreed on Katherine.
