@.twist.: Gotcha! Yea, my tummy hasn't gotten super hard and uncomfortable yet. Still battling the cervix punches though. LOL! It's been an all day thing today and they're intense. Sigh.

@.twist.: I was getting BH too a few weeks ago, but they seem to have let up. Sometimes my tummy still gets kinda hard but when I feel it, I think it's just the baby moving around and the hard part is its bum.
@Alivoo01: I have only felt a cervix kick once. Poor you
@Grace: That's a late OB appointment. I thought after 28 weeks you are supposed to be seen every 2 weeks. My first OB appointment isn't until 29 weeks and I thought that was late! Maybe you can call and see of you can get anything sooner?
I am also another one of those Canadians that gets a great mat leave. No top up to salary or anything, but I think about 500$ a week. I am taking 7 months with baby, not a year though because I make more money than DH so he will take a few months as well. I also finish work June 15 because I work In schools so I will be off work for 9 months altogether.
I spent the afternoon with my MIL sewing burp cloths. So fun!! So much to do around the house, but we picked up our family cradle from my SIL so at least we have a place for babe to sleep for the first few weeks. My DH's dad made a sweet little cradle that all the grandchildren use when they are newborns.
What is everyone planning on doing for sleeping arrangements? I think we are planning on having baby in cradle in our room for the first few weeks. DH will be back teaching early September and he has to wake up at 5:45 am so I am hoping to have baby in their own room by then. We have a small bedroom so it's not an option to have a crib or PnP in there.

@delight: we also have a bassinet in the family that lo will stay in in our room in the beginning - well then transfer her to her crib!
Check out my DIY productive Friday night! I just have to paint the letters a darker pink and her wall art for over the crib is done! Hopefully I can focus this energy to organizing my basement tomorrow am!

@Mrs D: that's beautiful! Are the circles made from fabric? Will.youmshow a picture when you have it hanging in LOs room?
Also how long are you going to keep LO in your room or are you just gonna play it by ear?
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@delight: I have an appointment with my regular doctor, so I'll see what she says then. Due to my google stalking, I think this OB is finishing her residency and probably isn't a certified dr yet and isn't starting with the practise until end of June.
DH will never sleep if Baby is in the room with us, so I think what will happen is that Baby will sleep in the crib and if I'm uncomfortable leaving her/him alone, then I'll sleep on the twin that we plan on having in the nursery.
@Mrs D: Such cute art! Well done.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@delight: I'll post a picture on the wall when its up but that might not be for a while. I laid the fabrics against the wall in the nursery (before starting last night) to make sure the fabrics went with the paint color. Hopefully it looks as good hun - oh I still have to paint the letters too!
As for the sleeping. I think maybe she will stay in the bassinet for a month or two. As Grace mentioned if it is taking a toll on DH (who will likely only take a week off work) I'll move her and I to the guest bedroom - especially if she is a fussy sleeper. I'd like to have her comfortably in her crib and in a sleeping routine by the time I go back to work at 12 weeks.
@Grace: Thanks, I was pretty excited for $30 to have the wall over the crib done!

@delight: I've got a year as well. We used to have 90% top up, but apparently we lost it in our last contract negotiation - boo. So, $500ish a week is better than nothing. My husband still has top up at 93% so maybe he'll take a portion of the parental leave, but sadly 93% of his base salary with no opportunity for overtime is about the same "loss" as me being off at $500/week so we'll see. I think he'd like to take 3 of the months off in theory, but the idea that I get to be pregnant most of this year, then have the hardest first 3 months off, then the whole winter where we'll be cooped up inside all the time, and then he gets the to have the entire summer off with a 9-12 month old doesn't seem like a very good deal for me... haha
As for me, I have an extra ultrasound tomorrow (not sure if I mentioned here that baby's stomach measured small, so they want a closer look to make sure there's nothing structurally wrong), and then I'm at the endocrinologist/diabetes clinic on Tuesday, and my regular OB on Wednesday. Phew... I feel like I live in waiting rooms lately. But it's the home stretch now I guess since the 3rd trimester has officially started over here!

@Sapphiresun: Hope your ultrasound goes well today. Feels good to be in the home stretch doesn't it?

@delight: I'm hoping to put DS in the grib from the get go, but we'll see how that works out. If not, I'll either sleep in DS's room with him still in the crib or put him in a pnp in our room. We'll see...
@Mrs D: LOVE IT!!!
@.twist.: Happy belated mother's day!
Anyone get recognized yesterday for Mother's Day? Hubby got me a card from him and DS. It was beautifully written, and if I was the super emotional type, I'd totally would have cried!

@Alivoo01: lol, I haven't experienced intense cervix punches yet! Thankfully! haha I sort of got recognized by a few people. My MIL got me a rose and DH made me dinner. The boys were supposed to go to their moms for a while but she text DH telling him she was too busy......
@delight: I totally started off thinking it was the baby's butt! HAH. I keep asking him what he's doing in there! lol. Cut it out! As for sleep, I'm not sure. I want him in the crib pretty early on, and although his room is right next to ours I'm not sure how much I want to be getting up every time he needs to feed. So, we MAY have him in a pack n play bassinet from the beginning and then transfer to the crib a little after? Still not sure. Our master bedroom is small and a pack n play in there just seems reeeeeally squished.
@Mrs D: That is AWESOME! I love love love it.
@Sapphiresun: Yay for getting to see the baby again! I hope everything is fine and you just have a tiny baby!
wow. I'm all over the place this morning. ETA: I had my glucose test on Sunday. The drink was actually pretty good and I didn't even feel terrible afterwards. I ended up having a bit of a sugar crash in the afternoon but had a 20 minute nap and then felt good to go again!

@Mrs D: Aww! Such a cute u/s pic!! We have our 3D u/s on Saturday...I seriously can't wait! And I love your DIY project--I suck at DIY stuff!
@StbHisMrs: I felt kinda gross/hungover afterwards. It only lasted about 30 minutes, though. I was fine once I had something to eat.
@Alivoo01: Glad your GD test went well and you passed! I won't find out my results until my appointment on Wednesday, but I am kind of assuming they would have called by now if I failed. I had a donut for breakfast just in case I can't have another one for awhile!
@delight: We're planning to have baby in our room in a PnP for awhile. Her nursery is on the second floor and our master is on the first, so we won't put her upstairs until she's sleeping semi-decently.
@.twist.: Happy belated Mother's Day!!
@Sapphiresun: Good luck at your ultrasound today. Hope everything looks good!
@Alivoo01: DH was out of town yesterday but he comes back today, and I think he probably at least got me a card. I'll let you know!
I had my first baby shower (with my mom's family) on Saturday, and it went really well! We got a lot of good stuff--we got a few BRU gift cards & the diaper genie, Aveeno gift basket and foscam video monitor that we registered for. We also got lots of diapers and wipes (luckily they're the exact kind I would've bought anyways, but I am glad that I didn't register for any!). My mom also got me some mary jane trumpettes and an angel dear lovey--very cute! We only got a few outfits, so I was happy about that.

@lawbee11: haha! So awesome that you had a donut for breakfast! Last night after my test I totally had a HUGE piece of Marble Slab ice cream cake for dessert. And awesome about your baby shower! Mine is in 2 weeks and I can't wait! Good to hear you got minimal outfits and a lot more practical stuff!

@.twist.: How is a mom ever too busy to see her own kids?! Not cool, but yay for a sweet hubby and your MIL!!
@lawbee11: Yay for baby shower and an awesome loot of useful items. You'll love the foscam camera! We have it and are very pleased with the quality.

@Alivoo01: uh oh, if protein helps with tearing then I'm in trouble ;). I haven't had as much as I should.
Is anyone else weird about eating dinner now? Just started third tri and a bowl of strawberries will somehow fill me up in the evening; I don't feel like eating much at that time.
@delight: I think we're just going to do the PnP in our bedroom (either that or the Rock N Play, depending on how finicky Ella is about sleeping). I'm also going to set up the glider in there; that way I can feed her without having to leave the room. I offered to have the glider in another room so that I didn't disturb him, but my DH said he'd wake up anyway, so it really didn't matter. Easy enough to change if it doesn't work out!
@Mrs D: Love it, so pretty! I've always adored the fabric in embroidery hoops -- circles are so refreshing :).
As for us, we hosted a mother's day BBQ yesterday. DSS and DSD were of course with their mom, but I did chat with my DSD later that night. DH got me a card, just as he's been doing since we got together...he's always recognized what I do for my step kids :).
@Sapphiresun: good luck with your U/S!
and I am...off to my Dr's appointment! I think I get my whooping cough vaccine today. Yay.

@Sapphiresun: Hope the ultrasound goes well!
@lawbee11: Oooo for baby showers! How's that for making it seem real?
@.twist.: Poor kids. It's awesome that they have you!!
@Alivoo01: Is the foscam camera the one that you set up with your phone? Was it hard to set up?
@StrawberryBee: Totally weird about food. I completely forgot about lunch yesterday - just wasn't hungry. On Friday I was suddenly starving right before bed. But it didn't take much to fill me up.
Found the change table the matches my crib on kijiji on Saturday. It looked brand new and was $65 (they are $159 at BRU). Score!!!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Grace: I find that if I wake up in the middle of the night (with hip pain from sleeping on my side, and a need to pee), that sometimes I can't get back to sleep because my body has chosen JUST THEN to be starved. Then I stay up for an hour arguing with my brain about how I'm not going downstairs to make an omelet at 4am!
Appointment went great; baby's heart rate is 154, my BP is good, test results all came back great (but I knew that already lol). I asked for and got the Tdap vaccination, and boy does my arm hurt now. Asked for it on my right shoulder even though I'm a righty because I didn't want to try sleeping on my left side with it if it was still achey by bedtime. Hopefully getting it was the right decision for me and the baby.
I also got a bunch of paperwork to fill out for the hospital.
Question to you girls: have you thought about whether or not you want your baby to get the Hep B vaccination while at the hospital? I believe in vaccinations but I'm not sure I believe in the current CDC schedule...some of these things just seem so unnecessary.
clementine / 930 posts
@StrawberryBee: I used to work in the communications/public relations department of our local health system and we did a big push for TDaP vaccinations as we had an increase in pertussis diagnoses in 2010. I wrote an article for one of our newspapers about it, so I did a lot of research. I will be getting one as will DH and I will be encouraging the grandparents to get the shot as well.
I still need to do some research on the vaccine schedule for infants though.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Grace: I set up the Foscam on our iPad, but pretty much the same as your phone. Setting it up on our intranet wasn't too bad (minor tech difficulties), but setting it up on that extranet was a PIA!!
@StrawberryBee: Yay for a good appointment!! I haven't even thought about vaccinations for DS yet. I'll need to add that to my list of things to discuss with the hubby!
clementine / 930 posts
@Alivoo01: does the foscam require the Internet at all times to work? DH is really interested in the wifi baby monitors, so he or my dad (who lives 5 hours a way) could see baby on their phones. But we have dsl that is notoriously spotty so I don't really want to be relying on that to alert me to baby's cries...I wish we had better Internet available where we live...
nectarine / 2530 posts
@JamieLee: Thanks! I figured getting the vaccination now while she's still in utero covers her until the 2 month shot. Pretty sure I got it 4 years ago so technically I wasn't really due (it's a 10 year shot?) but I asked my Dr and she said it won't hurt anything to get it again. Arm soreness is starting to go away. DH will get it closer to the duedate (he's so thrilled).
The paperwork in the hospital packet has a whole page on Hep B. "Hep B is transmitted through exposure to blood and blood products, through sexual contact, and from mothers to infants primarily at the time of birth." There's also a risk in other bodily fluids. It goes on to state that if you aren't in a high risk group you can wait to give the first dose at your LO's first office visit rather at birth. I'm assuming that most doctors push/insist on you getting the vaccination regardless of the fact that neither my DH nor I have Hep B and I'm pretty sure she won't be having sex any time soon.
So, is it better to get it as a bright and shiny newborn at the hospital? Or to wait and combine the second round of it with all the other vaccinations at her two month checkup. I want to make an appointment to talk with a pediatrician but I'm afraid that they'll have a knee-jerk reaction to 'the vaccination discussion' and immediately get defensive.
I really, really hate the push to combine all these vaccinations.

@Alivoo01: cool beans! I happen to know that somebody bought the Foscam off our registry (^_^). Both DH and I have iPhones, and will probably get an iPad (I'd be fine with a wifi only mini).

@lawbee11: @Alivoo01: Hoohoo - I'm soooo harassing you ladies if I have trouble setting mine up (when I get it).
@StrawberryBee: Where I live, the kids don't get the Hep B vaccine until Grade 4, so I don't have to worry about it and other first vaccines aren't until 2 months. I have some half-baked/half-remembered thought that babies immune systems are almost non-existant until 6 weeks, in which case, I do wonder how effective an early vaccine is. But to be honest, I don't think there is a wrong answer.
As far as the vaccine pushing, I think what may be helpful is to remember that the pushing isn't really targeted to you. It's to the population at large, and especially to people that are at risk and will forget to do it. It is much easier for a Public Health Agency to vaccinate all babies at birth for Hep B than to try to track down babies who maybe aren't getting all the desired infant care. And maybe this first consult with your pediatrician will give you some insight into whether he/she will be a good fit for you.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Grace: Thanks! I did hear of a doctor in the area that is open to delayed vaccinations, so I think I just need to talk it over with DH (once I decide where my scattered brain is on the matter ;)), and talk with both the delayed vacc guy and also the ped office my coworker recommended, and see where they stand.

@Sapphiresun: Hope everything went well with your ultrasound today! Hooray for another chance to see baby, but praying that everything is just fine!
@Alivoo01: Cute that DH did something for Mother's Day. My hubby told everyone that he had something planned...and then nothing happened at all yesterday. So, being my hormonal self, I texted him while he was at work to ask what was up. He didn't realize how important yesterday was I guess (after too many infertile Mothers' Days) and had planned to give me a gift today! So I felt a little silly being upset.
@lawbee11: I saw your cute FB picture from your shower (I promise, it just popped up on my newsfeed...no stalker here, haha!) and your outfit was so cute! Glad you had a good time! I've still heard nothing from anyone about a shower...so I'm just hoping that I won't be scrambling last minute to buy everything for baby myself!
@StrawberryBee: Glad your appointment went well! Boo for painful vaccines. I think our conversation re:vaccinations is coming up at the next midwife appt. I have some research to do, but I will probably go with what they recommend.

@StrawberryBee: I'm in trouble if protein helps with tearing too!!!! My husband is mr.nagger about me eating more protein but I just have such a hard time with it! wah! I also cannot finish a lot of meals these days, even when I try to STUFF it in. I was also recognized by a few people for my step mommy efforts. Which was nice.
I haven't even thought about vaccine's yet! I should probably look into them. oooops.
@Grace: Nice find! I wish I used kijiji more, seems super helpful I'm just scared of shady people on it!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Hold on, what did I miss about protein and tearing? My hubby is always on me to eat more protein, and its just SO tough.
My appetite has totally shrunk as well. I try to cram in my vegetables and protein before any starches, because I KNOW that there will be no room. What's the deal, baby? Why are you compromising my valuable stomach space (lol)?
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@.twist.: I've never found a sketchy person on kijiji. Having said that when I sold my car, I didn't go with the potiential buyer on a test drive. If they stole my car, I figured it was insured.

@redsmarties: hahaha seriously, especially for the delicious things like CARBS?! I'm not totally sure, but apparently the more protein, the less chance of tearing!
@Grace: I should be less of a 'fraidy cat!

Hope all you ladies are doing good and feeling good, heading into the home stretch(3rd tri). Tomorrow is my glucose test. Ill be so sad if I have GD, because I just want sweets this time(total opposite than with DS) and don't know if I could resist them haha. But I wasn't even close to failing last time, so I'm guessing(hoping) its the same this time.
Things have been crazy around here....we sold our house and NEED to find a new one...soon. If we don't, we'll have to end up moving in with one of our parents...ugh, no thank you. Plus we had DS first birthday party. And the little lady should be here in less than 12 weeks(and by should, I mean will!)
I see you guys are doing your registry and having showers...I miss that part! Have fun!

@lawbee11: I haven't had any stranger comments yet, but I am starting to get annoyed about the long conversations coworkers and neighbors seem to want to have with me when noticing I am pregnant lol! When I get up from my desk, I am usually rushing to the bathroom because I'm about to pee myself and women coworkers totally corner me and want to ask me a million questions and tell me stories. I appreciate the interest, but honestly we weren't on 'that level' before so please keep it professional and brief!

I had my first kind of shock/worry about labor and delivery. I definitely want to avoid a c-section if at all possible and looking around at prenatal yoga the past week I see women who are 35-39 weeks and just wonder how such a huge object is going to fit through - you know where! The logical side of me knows that our bodies know what to do and science proves that it will all work out but it is a really scary thought to me right now..

Ugh, this TDap vaccination is kicking my butt! My arm is so sore, and yesterday I had a six hour meeting that included the second in command of our company and all I wanted to do was fall asleep (felt fatigue/achy/queasy). I really, really miss advil.
Then I googled TDap side effects and ended up getting a bunch of articles about how the CDC is pushing pregnant women to get it without enough studies to support that it doesn't harm the baby, and how it's a class C drug and...ugh. I wish I had waited to get it until later in the third tri.

@Modern Daisy: When I was handed the hospital paperwork to fill out by my Doctor she actually made a comment, "Yeah, they want you to fill it out to the best of your ability now, even though you may have medical questions once you get there to deliver. I guess they figure that you aren't in the best place to make those decisions when you're screaming your head off in pain."
.....great. Thank you. I feel so comforted now!

@sarbear: Congrats on selling your home; and good luck finding a new one soon! I’d love to be able to sell my current home, but it needs a few updates first before it can be sold. Sigh. How’d your GD test go?
@Delight: Yay for baby gear being purchased for you!! It’s like being a kid on Christmas morning all over again. Glad to hear the massage was relaxing! Are they expensive? I looked into it, and they’re like $100+ each session. You get a lil break if you buy a package of sessions, but still. Ouch! I don’t normally get massages so I don’t really know if that’s expensive or not, but seems high to me. Haha!
@Modern Daisy: I’ve always been afraid of the delivery even before TTC, specifically the tearing part. When I mentioned this to my OB, she brushed it off and said it’s totally normal. That’s what stitches are for! I know tearing is “natural” but it doesn’t make me feel any better. Haha!
@StrawberryBee: How’s the TDap treating you today? I totally forgot to ask my OB about this at my appointment last week, and made myself a note to inquire at my appointment next week!
