Just got a call from the midwife - I passed my GD test! I was honestly really worried about this because of my PCOS. But apparently things went well!
@StrawberryBee: well, you just reminded ME that I have to fill out my massive folder of information for the hospital, AND book a visit. Good thing we're all looking out for each other, haha.
@Sapphiresun: Having a shower afterwards might be great - I mean, who knows what you'll TRULY need until after the baby's here!
@Mrs D: See, YOUR panicking is spurring on MY panicking. Now I'm feeling the need to get out my notepad (nothing like a good old pen-and-paper to do list!) We'll see what kind of insanity this weekend brings!

@JamieLee: @redsmarties: Congrats on passing your tests ladies! You must be so relieved!
@StrawberryBee: Ahhh I have to send my paperwork in too! I better look at that tomorrow!
When are people picking/meeting with pediatricians? Is it too early??

@JamieLee: Congrats! I do have to admit that the GD diet is pretty healthy. Have to get your full servings of veggies unless you want to starve!
@redsmarties: yeah, the anal retentive side of me just likes to be ready in advance, and know EVERYTHING possible. I know my mom and shop-a-holic aunt have bought a ton of stuff (My cousin said there's two rubbermaid totes at her house) it would just be nice to know exactly what it is so I don't waste money buying/using stuff they already have for 3 weeks before the shower. Hopefully they haven't wasted too much effort on a newborn wardrobe that I'll never use.
Yay for passing your glucose test!

@Sapphiresun: I totally understand. I'm the same way- that's why we couldn't be team green. I'm sure everything will be wonderful though. How are you feeling? Your GD classes going okay?
nectarine / 2220 posts
@redsmarties: ugh, not bad... it's just annoying. I thought being pregnant all summer was going to give me license to sit around the pool and eat ice cream... unfortunately that's not the case. haha. It's a pretty regimented diet, (very specific things in very specific portions at very specific times that makes it not very conducive to still working a full time, unpredictable job) and I have to test 5 times a day and am now on 18 units of injection insulin. It's mostly annoying having to interact with other people, since I don't know if you noticed, but the food pushers are out in FULL FORCE when you're pregnant. "Oh, but here's a massive piece of cake for you, since you're eating for two" and if you decline it's like "oh, relax, you're pregnant, this is the only time you won't have to think about your waist-line", and I don't feel like my GD is necessarily everybody's business that I want to explain why I'm not allowed cake (at all, but especially not between meals). Annnnnnd I get ranty without my empty carbs. I lost 4 pounds in the first two weeks of the diet, and heard no end of crap about that at class today, since I was already at -1 net gain. But it's super hard to eat enough calories in lean meat and veggies to actually gain weight.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@redsmarties: Yea! Congrats!
@Sapphiresun: People are super food-pushers! It's very odd.
I put in my garden this evening (well, half maybe) and my butt and lower back is protesting! I thought I was getting away pretty lucky before with only the odd twinge, but I think I may just have ruined myself! Flowers look pretty though...

I can't catch up right now, way too exhausted. I st
art third tri tomorrow and I have been like walking dead for the last two weeks, all I want to do is sit on my butt and do nothing. Like that will happen!!
I'm taking my GD test tomorrow, and I'm nervous since I've had a huge sweet tooth this go round. Yikes.
Today after work I went into the store to get some milk, it rained all day and the floor was slick. I fell, right in front of the bakery lady, I'm so surprised they didn't make me sign a waiver form. I landed on my knees and my hands, it of course like everything I do that made my contractions start up again and I've had a couple sharp twinges. I think I'll be ok waiting until tomorrow morning during my appointment. Baby is moving just fine

@Sapphiresun: with DS, he was due the end of April and I believe we picked the pediatrician by January and had called them to find out what we needed to do once he was born. but I also took him to the same ped my nephew goes to, so we didn't interview. you can start looking now, if you're going to interview/tour the offices/staff/etc.
@StbHisMrs: glad to hear everything is fine after your little stumble!!! I missed the bottom step of our stairs Tuesday while carrying DS...thankfully I landed on my knees and was able to keep us all from smacking into the baby gate.
so it's official, my c-section is scheduled for August 1st @ 7:30am!!! 10 more weeks! everything looks good, passed my gestational diabetes test. she's breech, still, which doesn't really matter since i'm having a c-section anyways...but i'd love for her dome(which feels gigantic!!!) not to be pushing on my lung/liver making it wonderful to breath and get comfortable ha
also, with the heat my cankles are making their grand return
:o( i'm not happy about this at all. my doc told me to stay hydrated and to stay off my feet as much as possible...because that's easy to do with a 1 year old!

@redsmarties: Sorry I brought on panicking on your end. As some of the girls mentioned I feel a million times better now that I have a list to work off of!!! There is definitely plenty to do - but I know I have plenty of time to do it in!
@skipper2010: We have picked our (he came recommended by like 4 people) but just need to go meet him and make sure he pans out!
@JamieLee: @redsmarties: Congrats on passing your tests ladies!!! Mine is in two weeks...stressing already!!!
I'm wrapping up my last week of work travel until LO arrives. Thank god too because the 3.5 hour drive has gotten worse and worse as my bladder gets smaller and smaller.
DH and I decided we'd lay low this weekend. I'm hoping to get some yard work done, buy some organization supplies for LO's closet and get the house cleaned/in order after being away for almost 3 weeks straight. We have a contractor coming Tuesday to install new interior doors in our upstairs hallway - such an annoying expense but I know it will look amazing. DH and I are also considering tackling a few more home projects (with the help of professionals) before LO makes her arrival. We have a bit of a fixer upper of a house (no major renos needed but definitely a house in need of TLC). We decided last weekend that we'd like to stay in the house through LO#2 (so 3-4 years min) which means we are now wanting to make it nice so we can enjoy it for that time frame. With a limited budget its tough figuring out what you can and cant do. Ugh!

You guys....I'm 30 weeks today!!! Eeek! I've been really looking forward to this milestone for some reason! I woke up this morning so excited! haha! I have the day off today so I'm going to work on my hospital pre-registration paperwork and look into finding a pediatrician. And @Mrs D has inspired me to work on some lists. It always feels better to have everything down on paper and there's nothing like the feeling of crossing things off!
@StbHisMrs: I'm sorry you fell! Good to hear that the baby is moving around a lot though. Hope your appt goes well today!
@sarbear: Ahhhh so exciting that you have a date for your c-section!!! And it's on my due date! Yay! What was your original due date?
grapefruit / 4823 posts
@skipper2010: it's definitely exciting to have a date...but at the same time, it seems so close! and not that it wasn't real before, this makes it really real! haha my original due date was 8/15 based off a dating u/s because I didn't know my LMP. but that was incorrect and my doc moved it to 8/7.

@JamieLee: Such a cute hamper!! And congrats on passing your 3-hour test...that must be such a relief!
@Mrs D: Happy belated birthday!! And count me in on being excited about all of your research/spreadsheets! I need all the help I can get at this point!
@.twist.: Umm, I think I check our registries every day. It's kind of an addiction. Someone bought our Beco Soleil and I am sooo excited about it! We're getting our rocker from Ikea, too! Mostly because of the price, but DH and I also really like the way it looks. I think we're going to "splurge" and get a leather one.
@redsmarties: Congrats on passing the GD test!!
@skipper2010: We've picked our pediatrician, but he doesn't know it yet. I am planning to ask my OB how I should go about setting things up with him.
@Sapphiresun: That's what I am worried about most if I have GD--losing weight! I haven't gained much to begin with, and I am worried that if I have to diet I will gain even less or lose weight.
@StbHisMrs: Hope your GD test goes well! Sorry about the fall--glad baby is moving and you're feeling ok.
@sarbear: OMG your C-section date will be here so soon--that's so exciting to have an end in sight!
I had my 3-hour test on Monday, but I haven't heard anything yet. I think I will call tomorrow if I haven't heard by then. I felt fine during and after the test, it was just a PITA. And I have a huge bruise on my arm from all the needle pricks. It looks like I've been shooting up heroin...very attractive.
I haven't had any heartburn yet and I am still sleeping pretty well, so I consider myself very lucky. But I am just worried it's all going to start up at once! Keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to go smoothly!

@skipper2010: @sarbear: I think your answer about pediatricians was directed at skipper2010
But, we're not planning on getting a pediatrician I don't think. Pretty sure here that would be considered a "specialist" and we'd only have one if we were referred by our family doctor.
@sarbear: Wow, actual schedule dates makes it seem like August is coming so fast!

@.twist.: I started checking my registries because Amazon sends me an email every time someone purchases something! It’s exciting. Someone bought us the breastpump!! It’s one of THE biggest items on our registry and am so grateful for them and the item since insurance doesn’t cover it. Boo!!
@JamieLee: @redsmarties: Congratulations ladies on passing the GD test! What a relief huh!
@StbHisMrs: OMG!! That’s terrifying, but so glad both you and the baby are okay.
@sarbear: 10 weeks?! We’re that close already?!?!?!? That’s exciting you have a set-in-stone delivery date now though! Boo on the swelling, and I don’t see the problem staying off your feet with an active one year old… Ha!
@Mrs D: We bought a little fixer upper also, and totally regret it now because there’s no way we’ll ever recoup the costs unless the housing market skyrockets in the future. Plus, this was prior to us being business owners so we were planning on doing the renos ourselves. Now, we have to contract it out to get it done, or it’d take us months and months do it ourselves. However, if we don’t fix certain things, we’ll never be able to sell it. I’m hoping to be out of our current home by the time we have #2, but we’ll see…
@skipper2010: We have a tentative pediatrician picked out, but haven’t had the opportunity to go meet him yet. We plan to soon though.
And 30 weeks is an exciting milestone because that means you’re only 10 weeks away from our EDD!!!!!
I thought I was going to start experiencing heartburn since I had it two days in a row last week, but I’ve been okay so far. Hopefully, it’ll stay away because those two days were painful and I don’t want to deal with it for weeks until DS is born! I’ve also been sleeping okay with the occasional pee pee break around 2am. However, I had a slight panic attack last night because I couldn’t feel DS moving. I laid awake until I felt him move before I could go back to sleep. I also realized I was pretty hungry, but ignored it. Do you ladies eat when you’re hungry in the wee hours of the morning?

@redsmarties: YAY! Congrats on passing your test!
@skipper2010: I haven't decided what to do about this. My GP does babies so I think I should probably just take him to her? I guess that cuts out a lot of research for me? Or am I missing something and a GP and Pediatrician are two different things?!
I am also looking forward to 30. Next week. holy smokes.
@Sapphiresun: I would be in the same boat as you. I love my carbs and don't really know what to eat if they are not included in my meal!
@StbHisMrs: Glad to hear you're doing ok after your fall! That sucks! I have been noticing that if I have to quickly run up some stairs, I start getting BH. freaks me out!
@sarbear: eeeeep! August 1! That is so exciting and so REAL. So far, the most real thing to happen to me is that we just interviewed the women who will be doing my job while I'm on mat leave. I have to train her next week! WTH!
@lawbee11: You just reminded me to check it again and the Fisher Price Comfy Time Bouncer was purchased!!!!!!!!! It was one of the rec's I got from one of the HelloBee baby registry lists! aaaaaaaaaaaaaah. lol@heroin mama. Too bad it's not halloween, that would kind of and kind of not be an awesome costume.

@Sapphiresun: You know what, now that you say that about the pediatrician being a specialist, I think that is how it will work with me too.
@Alivoo01: OMG. I have had a FEW nights of lying awake until I feel the baby move. He freaks me out sometimes and is quiet for a good day and then night and I lose my mind. Then the next morning, he's back to bouncing around and giving me rib shots. I haven't gotten real hungry in the middle of the night yet.

@lawbee11: my lab tech told me that no news was good news, and that they would probably call within 24 hours if my test was abnormal. But she recommended calling so I would guess you're in the clear, but definitely call to make sure.

@StbHisMrs: glad to hear everything's okay; I'm sure the fall was more scary than anything.
@sarbear: oh my gracious, first baby of our month board!

Talk me down off the ledge, ladies!
my DH insisted that we sign up for childbirth education classes; it's ten hours total split over two days. Keeping in mind that he has two children from a prior marriage and has been through all this before. Just found out that he still plans to have the kids over that weekend and wants to take them to a festival after our class is over on Saturday, and I'm just not feeling it. I don't want to be told for five hours how much pain I'm going to be in while he's focusing on the carnival. I want to stick my head in the sand for a little while longer. I feel like I have a good enough understanding of what will happen based on personal stories posted at HB, and I quite frankly don't want to be confronted with it just yet!
If you attended childbirth classes already, can you tell me what they could possibly discuss for ten hours?
pineapple / 12802 posts
@StrawberryBee: I can't tell you what they'd talk about for 10 hours, but I can, maybe, help you feel better in knowing that I'm not taking any courses.... I might take a CPR course if my husband can set it up in time though.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@lawbee11: Some of the lists just calmed me down and talked me off my panic attack but I also ran like 500 internet searches for what to pack in a hospital bag, diaper bag, hospital bag for Newborn and recovery essentials for new moms. I think they are awesome - hopefully you guys will find some good stuff in them too!
@Alivoo01: Ya - its a total stress point for us. Luckily ours was predominantly cosmetic fixes needed to see full potential but we have a few jobs (interior doors, hardscaping, kitchen cabinet rafacing and drywall) that require contractors. We're trying to be extra frugal about every job. We always said we wouldnt put more than $20K into this house b/c of the market. Right now we know we'll be here for enough time that it makes sense for us to enjoy the $15K as opposed to just fixing it up to sell. Luckily our neighborhood has been appreciating for the last 6 mos so thats encouraging.
@lawbee11: WOOHOO! That cupcake sounds amazing.
@StrawberryBee: So I'm just going to be honest...I couldnt imagine not doing the class. Even with all I have read and been told I still feel I need more info - but I am a serious novice with all of this stuff. I think if you decide to do the class you should make DH take his kids to the festival though - if it is that important to him he should manage it. No sense in making you be up and at it all day?
1 more hour of work then I am heading home...move clock move!!! Also, PBKids just scheduled our delivery of the rest of the bedroom furniture for next Saturday...SO excited!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@StrawberryBee: Not sure what everyone else's class was like, but here's a quick run down of our's. I'm sure there's more info discussed, but can't recall right now:
Day 1 (3 hours): understanding signs of pre-term labor and when we should call our doctors, what's okay vs not okay (types of discharge, when it's real labor vs false labor, techniques on what to do to help differentiate the two, etc.)
Day 2 (5.5 hours) was learning about different laboring and breathing positions and techniques and practicing them on the floor with our partners. Discussed the different phases of labor (what 1, 3, 6, and 10cm looks like and what happens at each, what position your baby might be at (+2,+1,0,-1,-2)) and how your family/significant other can help you (be your focus point, different massages to alleviate back pain, etc.) Then we discussed labor itself - vaginal vs c-section and all the different types of pain meds/anesthetics, ways to get your baby in the correct position for delivery if he's facing sunny side up, what happens post-partum, and ended the class with a tour of the labor and delivery floor. During both classes, we watched videos to help demonstrate what was discussed, and they passed around various tools that could be used during your labor and delivery like the heart rate monitor, the hook used to break your water, the EKG monitor for your baby should you need it, the suction cup and forceps used if needed, etc.
They also served us drinks and food at both classes, and the food was amazingly delicious. haha. Day 1, we had chips and queso along with chicken strips. Day 2, we had 1 fruit and 1 veggie platter along with chicken alfredo pasta and breadsticks.

@Sapphiresun: You should just go ahead and pack a chocolate cake in your hospital bag
@Alivoo01: I don't eat when I am hungry in the middle of the night. I am pretty much hungry all day long, but I just try and have small snacks throughout the day. If I ate every time I was hungry I probably wouldn't fit through the door!
@StrawberryBee: I would go ahead and do the class. DH has done this three times before (!) but we both agreed we should sign up for the class. I am just way too type-A to rely on him remembering things...I need to hear it for myself (plus he's never experienced labor, obviously)! We aren't taking our class until July, but the flyer from my OB said the class covers terminology, the process of labor, medical interventions and options, relaxation techniques, and a hospital tour (I am probably most excited about the tour because I want to see what the rooms are like!). Ours is on a Saturday and is 7 1/2 hours long. Can your DH just take the kids to the carnival afterwards and you can go home and relax?
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Mrs D: @Alivoo01: @lawbee11: Thanks! Oh, the first words out of my mouth were "I'm not going to the festival with you and the kids." There's going to be way too much for me to process (mentally, from the class), plus I don't feel like walking around through the field and holding things while they go on rides. I'll probably take a nap lol.
@Alivoo01: thank you so much for the rundown! If they start passing around medical things I may puke...have I mentioned how much I really really hate doctors? (nothing against doctors, just...panic attack!) Just thinking about it makes my heart rate accelerate. Hopefully I'll be so distracted when I go to the hospital that it won't register where I am.
And the funny things I'm so an over preparer for everything else, but in this case denial is winning that part of me over.
The hospital tour part of things is a separate day.

My prenatal classes start this Wednesday - and there are six weeks of them! I'm a little worried that I'll be bored, because of the stuff I've picked up around HB, but they're taught by a doula, a midwife and a lactation consultant, so hopefully it will be helpful. I really have to call and schedule a hospital visit though!
I feel like my belly has gotten a LOT bigger this week. I feel like everything is stretching, and there's no room in there for my lungs or stomach. Can't imagine what LO's going to do in there for another 11 weeks...maybe its just a growth spurt!

Thanks for the well wishes, all is well with baby and I. I told my Dr. and he looked at me and said "Why'd you do that?" Uh....
I think my center of gravity is off, and carrying M around is not helping with that, I fell again this morning getting her out of the car. Flat on my back, I think I'll retire my heels now.
I have had the worst pain in my left hip, it kept me up almost all night. I'm not liking all these aches and pains!
In other news I passed my GD test with an 87, not too bad. I should have thought about what time I had it scheduled though! That much sugar on an almost empty stomach (no time to eat more than a couple apple slices and a piece of toast) at 9:30, then my dr was running about 45 minutes late. I had the worst caffeine headache since I wasn't suppose to eat or drink between testing and appointment. It was 11:45 before I got a cup of coffee!

@StbHisMrs: Oh dear! I'm glad you and Baby are ok. Luckily there are super cute flats out now!
@sarbear: 10 weeks to go! That's crazy-pants!
@StrawberryBee: Do you get much posion ivy in the garden? Perhaps you could wear long sleeves and gardening gloves? I'm sorry that the carnival is still a go. I imagine since he's been through a birth before that he's much less nervous? I'm glad mine is over a 6-week period (starting Monday). I couldn't imagine getting all that info at once!
Congrats all you ladies who passed the GD test. I'm in the middle of mine and it's a PITA!! I decided to go yesterday after work. Go in and the tech tells me it's a two hr test and that I need to fast 10-12 hours beforehand. Nothing I've read says that this is how it goes, so I question her and she looks it up and says that yes, it's a 1-hr test, but that I do need to fast. Grrr. So, even though I think she's wrong, I decide to go to a different lab this morning (without breakfast, just in case she was right). It was so busy! I got here at 10:30 and waited 45 min to be called. They didn't ask if I'd fasted, so I think the other tech was talking nonscense and then drank my drink. Geez. So, here, I've been starving and drank that thing on an empty stomach for nothing! Although, I'm not hungry anymore and I don't have a headache, so that's good. I feel kinda twitchy though.
Oh - and now, there's absolutely no wait at the lab. Could have come in an hour later and been seem right away. Sigh.

@Grace: Ever since I OD'd on mango five years ago I've been really susceptible to poison ivy (they're in the same family). Before that I could traipse through the woods all day and never get a reaction ;). I have no idea where it's coming from (I found a clump on the back fence, but I don't go anywhere near there, so there must also be some in the front under the oak tree). Even if I wear gloves, somehow I manage to get the oils on my skin. Usually I'm willing to chance it, but I always need steroids when I have an outbreak because it won't go away on its own.
As a side note, my intolerance to mango is so great now that I really can't eat it in any form (including water ice *sob*). It's one of my favorite fruits.
Everything I read online said that the one hour test should not require any fasting :(. I'm sorry to hear the tech gave you misinformation! Hope it went quickly and you were able to treat yourself afterwards.
@Mrs D: so cute!! I really need to get moving on the nursery again. Can't wait to see your finish pics!
I feel a bit better about the childbirth classes. We finally got some information in the mail on them, including a questionnaire and a notation to bring a pillow and comfy clothes, because we're going to be working on relaxation techniques (I can see how that would be helpful. Massage, yes please!). Each day also includes a break mid-session.
I also completely indulged in some retail therapy! Picked up a cute dress that I secretly want to wear to my baby shower (I don't know when it is lol) and a maternity bathing suit top. Picked up a bathing suit for the baby for next summer (okay *cof*two*cof*). It will probably be a ridiculous waste of money and may not even fit her, but I just couldn't help myself! And I also found a store in the mall called Crazy 8 that apparently is affiliated with Gymboree. So many cute things!! I managed to restrain myself and just pick up a strawberry dress for $4.
Oh, and I got a free bottle from Motherhood Maternity.
