@Sapphiresun: Mrs D ended up asking the timeline question in a separate thread and there are lots of answers!

@redsmarties: Those Wendy's cheeseburgers look amazing. I've been drooling over the commercials. Pretzel bun? Best idea ever!
@Mrs D: nice little s'mores recipe you have there! I've only ever had them at the cottage with a campfire. We won't be able to go to the cottage this year since we always go in mid August, so I'll have to make DH and I some micro-s'mores here at home!

@skipper2010: Hubby and I definitely went through a rainbow emotions when we heard the news. Lots of crying with all the mixed emotions. I’ll be 37 weeks on Friday.
@Mrs D: SMores sound delicious btw!!
Also, the OB went ahead and did a Strep B and cervical check today. Both were equally super uncomfortable. I’m currently 2cm dilated and 50% effaced.

@redsmarties: Found them!
About 11:30 mark it explains where the release buttons are, just in case you guys have as many issues as we did... Sometimes I seriously doubt my own intelligence.

@Alivoo01: good luck on Friday! Can't believe you're 2cm already as well. You're already 1/5 of the way done
A while back we were talking about red raspberry leaf tea and how some thought its not super yummy. I've been obsessed with A) peaches B) green tea peach lemonade from Starbucks ( seriously the most refreshing drink ever.. Try it.. I get it half sweet) so anyways, I bought a bottle of the peach syrup and put some in my raspberry tea, it's really good... Just I case anyone is still looking for ways to make it taste a bit better
We had our last prenatal class tonight, it feels weird to be done. I feel ready. Nursery is all done, once I get the bedding from my MIl ill post pics, I'm in love with it. Husband always finds me sitting in the glider just enjoying the room. Ill be 37 weeks on Sunday and I'm ready for babe any day after that as its full term. ( being that she's ready of course) I feel like she might be shifting down as her hiccups feel lower now and more centred where as before they were kinda to the side. I have a dr appt on wed for the swab and I wonder if they'll do a check then too.
Hope everyone e,se is feeling good

I may or may not have spent this pregnancy melting chocolate chips in the microwave and dipping strawberries in it
@Alivoo01: wow, 2 cm and 50%!

@Alivoo01: That's great that you'll be full term! And wow 2 cm already....looks like baby got the memo! haha
So ladies, what do you plan on putting LO in for naps during the day? I think someone said you're not supposed to leave them in the swing for longer than half hour so I'm assuming the same goes for the bouncer? I don't want to put him in his crib because I want him to be around me in the living room. I'm wondering if I should buy a moses basket or something for day time naps? I don't know....
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@MrsB2012: I totally do the same thing...just sit in the rocker and relax. I love the room so much that its like my calm zone - hopefully it stays that way after she comes!
@skipper2010: LO will be napping wherever she wants to nap. I have read lots that say both ways (limit the time in the bouncer/swing/etc and those that say its totally fine) I also got her a Rock N Play - which I suspect may be a prime napping spot!
@Alivoo01: You are going to do great! If you have family around I recommend just asking for a ton of help - I read something somewhere that just said new moms and soon to be moms need to graciously accept the help that is offered. If you have family nearby I think you should just give them each small tasks to help you out this week! AND I would totally have brought you some s'mores if we didn't live across the country from each other!!!!
@MrsB2012: I wont say we are "ready" but after my final trip to BBB (20% off everything completion discount this Sunday in my store) I will have everything I "NEED" for baby in this house. Not necessarily set up and everything but in the house at least. That is a huge relief for me!
Birthing class #2 tonight...after the terrible day of work DH had yesterday (work crap went wrong and his flight home was delayed 5 hours) I can only imagine he'll be a peach to sit next to while he hears about my vagina for 3 hours!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@skipper2010: oh It was me that mentioned only 30 mins in swing. That's what the American medical association's, or whatever you have, guidelines are. I'm in Canada so I can go longer
Seriously I know lots of people leave babes in swings longer. I have a pNp, a cradle in the room, a bouncer that reclines and a swing. I'll likely use a combo of those, but usually the cradle.
I think maybe a small rock and play or a pack and play would be good for you to have in your living room. Pack and plays are good for travel too.
@MrsB2012: we have one more class and we will be done too! I'm feeling only somewhat ready. I am a little scared babe is going to make its appearance too early.
@Mrs D: enjoy the class. My DH was a little uncomfortable in some. Yesterday we watched many movies about BF and even tried out hand expression with a fake boob hooked up to fake milk. Ummmmm weird. He declined taking part in that.
I'm just about to go to my weekly appointment. I know I have my group B strep test but imagine I'll get a cervical check and possibly a scan. More bleeding this morning so I'm glad I'm on my way to see OB. If she puts me on bed rest I won't be a happy camper, but as long as babe is healthy, all is ok.

@Alivoo01: Wow! Congratulations! So thrilled for you and cannot wait to "meet" baby Alivoo01!
Wow! I too have the feeling that my LO will be early! Gosh! What's going on with us?
Heading to my 36 week appointment in about in hour...I think they're doing the swab test...ugh! But maybe also a cervical test!
This may be a bit TMI, but DH and I were *ahem* DTD this morning and he said it felt really "tight" down there, like more than normal. He didn't say it was uncomfortable, but it was enough to make him worry. Should I be worried about this? It doesn't seem like it would be a problem. Just curious. Sorry about the TMI!
pomelo / 5326 posts
Ok all is good in my hood
had a full cervical check. It actually wasn't THAT bad. Only took a minute. My cervix is nice and soft and I'm just over 1cm dilated. She said my bleeding is normal, just a sign of things getting ready so not to worry!
nectarine / 2220 posts
@skipper2010: I have the Tiny Love 3-in-1 Rocker that I'm hoping will be a good napper/chair baby container that I can drag around the house with me. We don't have a bouncer or a swing though because there's no space for it, so I wanted something that would do dual purpose. I got it in brown and it's not as chocolatey as I was hoping the colour would be, but it's all right.
@greenebee: I had the swab last week. It's not that bad, I promise. I'm at my 36 week appt as well, and I think they said for sure a cervical exam this week.
I also have to have a non-stress test today and weekly until baby is born, which with the GD I have to have another ultrasound (#6) next week and then they'll decide if they want to induce anytime after the 23rd. Totally freaky as we're really not ready. Finally got the office/guest room cleaned out this weekend and crib's assembled and stuff... but I just feel like I'm forgetting a ton of really important things. Should probably work on hospital bags this week and pick up some nursing bras/tanks.

Sitting in the midwives waiting room now, just checking in on everyone. Had a wave of period-like cramps this morning, but they're gone now...I'm probably just symptom spotting (this is like an intense TWW, haha). Doubt they'll do a cervical check or anything, but we'll see!

@delight: Glad to hear all is well with you!
@Sapphiresun: I totally feel you! I thought I "had" 3 more weeks to prep the baby room and mentally prepare for the baby's arrival so when I was told I was getting induced THIS Friday, I was like holy batman!! I don't have ANYTHING ready. So we called over the hubby's cousin last night to help us move things out and setup the dresser. Today and tomorrow is all about organizing and putting things up in preparation for the baby!!
@redsmarties: Keep us informed!!
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Oh I forgot to add that I actually had 3 Dr.'s appts on Friday that all went really well. The growth scan showed the little man is 4 lbs 12 oz, measuring 5 days ahead of schedule and in the 65% percentile.
Then I met with my Dr. and told him about this 'gurgling' sensation I've been feeling "down there". The best thing I can compare it to is when I've had really heavy periods and stand up after sitting for a long time and all the liquid rushes out of me. But nothing has been coming out, it's just the sensation that I'm feeling. So he measured my cervix and I'm a full 4 cm (thick, not dialated) when they only look for 2-2.5 cm at this point in pregnancy. He also said there's nothing I can do about my RLS and it will most likely go away once the baby arrives.
The third appt was a nonstress test and the baby did whatever he needed to do because they let me go after only 20 minutes and it can take up to an hour.
Oh, and we decided not to go to my cousin's wedding in two weeks which means no more traveling for us from now until the baby is born. We are somewhat relieved since it had been stressing us out and now we can really focus on getting ourselves ready. The crib is now assembled and there are a bunch more things we need to do to rearrange the apartment, but it's coming together finally!

@StrawberryBee: I bookmarked that article. It was pretty good! I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with medical people! I haven't had anything like that happen - if anything, the things that you are wanting are standard care here. I'm going to hope hard that you have an awesome hippy nurse who you feel really comfortable with.
@delight: My boobs have gotten sore. Mainly, I think because they have decided to bust out of my bras again. And I'm NOT buying new ones until I know they are done. I'm glad everything is okay and the spotting is just your body getting ready.
@Mrs D: Thanks for the list! As always, I bow down in awe. If you aren't keen on skin to skin, don't do it. I say trust your instincts. Lots of us didn't have skin to skin and for the most part, we're healthy, intellegent, well-adjusted people!
As for the clothing during labour, are any of you concerned that it'll get wrecked? One thing I took away from my prenatal class was that having a baby is messy and gross. I don't want to buy clothes that will just be ruined.
@redsmarties: your last week of work. That must be so nice.
@Alivoo01: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Induced on Friday!?!?!? That's so exciting....and a little terrifiying. It's hard to believe that we are all that close. Wishing you tons of luck for a smooth and easy-peasy delivery!! And awesome that you are already getting ready (cervix wise). That's work that you don't have to do on induction day!
@skipper2010: As of right now, I plan on putting baby in the crib for naps. If I change my mind later, the store is still there.
@Modern Daisy: 4 cm!!! Is your OB concerned at all? I have heard that people can be dialated for weeks and weeks with no problems.
I had a doctor's appointment this morning and asked her if I could take some extra iron for restless leg syndrom (I've had it before and iron supplements cured it). She said a little iron never hurt anybody and gave me a presciption. Whoohoo. Other than that, nothing new with me. I do not think I'll be one of the people to go early. I have a feeling this little munchkin is quite cozy and will be quite content to stay put.

@Mrs D: I only have one nursing tank! My mom got it for me--it's from a Pea in the Pod. It's really nice, but she paid a lot for it, so I think I'll get the rest from Motherhood. They always have buy 3, get 1 free for their nursing stuff. I have one Bravado nursing bra, one Hotmilk nursing bra, and 2 sleep nursing bras from Target. I think that's definitely enough bras to get me started, so I am not planning to buy anymore. As far as going home outfit, I got a footed sleeper from Baby Gap--it zips and seems like it'll be easy to get her into. It's cream-colored with small neon pink polka dots
@.twist.: Lukas is such a cutie!!! Glad to hear that you're both doing well (and I know that you're home from the hospital thanks to Facebook!).
@StrawberryBee: Thanks for that link--I am going to read it once I am done catching up. I am kinda nervous about reading it! Oh, and we set up our swing already, and are planning to use it while she's a newborn. We don't have a dog, but our cat hasn't shown any interest in it (but she's also a very old, lazy cat).
@Mrs Hedgehog: That dress is so cute!! I am planning just to rock a hospital gown during delivery!
@redsmarties: I am so jealous that you're so close to maternity leave! After today I have 18 work days left (at most), and they've been seriously dragging lately.
@greenebee: That's so awesome that you got so much great stuff at your shower! Umm, including my work shower I may or may not have had 4!! One was out of state for my mom's family, one was thrown by my co-workers (they all pitched in for a group gift so we got some really awesome stuff), and then my mom insisted on having two more because there were so many people she wanted to invite and we didn't have a space big enough to just have one--can you tell she's excited about her first grandchild??
@Alivoo01: Ohhh emmm geee! Your little boy will be here so soon! I am sure you're nervous, but you'll be full-term so I am sure everything will be just fine. I can't wait to "meet" him!
@delight: Glad everything went well at your appointment!
DH and I went to our childbirth prep class on Saturday--it was 8 hours long! It was definitely a long day, but I am really glad we went. We have our newborn care class tomorrow. I am still carrying really high--my ribs are sore from all of her kicks! Other than that, not much to report. I gave up on looking cute for work and am now wearing tennis shoes every day...they are the only shoes that keep my swelling under control!

@delight: So glad everything is looking A-Ok for you! How exciting! You're getting all ready!
@Sapphiresun: You were totally right about the swab. It was really no big deal. I should not have worried (listened to too many horror stories about it). Thanks for calming my fears!
@redsmarties: Ouch! I am glad to hear that the cramping stopped. It seems like a lot of us had appointments today.
@Alivoo01: I am inspired to really buckle down now on the nursery. I too keep feeling like it's so far away but even three weeks is not long! So happy for you and glad you're getting help tonight and tomorrow!
@Modern Daisy: So cool that you know roughly how big the LO is!
@Grace: I am concerned it will get wrecked, so the clothing I am planning to wear during labor is all old t-shirts and boxer shorts! I've purchased some cute nursing tanks and comfy shorts for post-partum, but I am definitely not wearing nice new things during labor.
@lawbee11: Oh! So glad to hear I am not the only one! We're so lucky!

@Grace: Um...maybe I am confused...I guess I figured I would be in a hospital gown for labor?

@Alivoo01: So exciting that you'll be meeting your little one at the end of the week. I agree with PP that said you probably never feel 100% ready for this. Eeeekk!
@Sapphiresun: Did your doctor talk about inducing early because of the GD? At my appointment on Monday, the doctor said they might induce me at 39 weeks because of the GD if my cervix is "favorable". I wish I had asked what favorable means.
@delight: 1 cm!! Looks like things are moving right along.
@Mrs D: I'm planning on rocking the hospital gown as well. I am throwing an old Old Navy folddown skirt in my bag and a sleep nursing bra in case I hate being in the hospital gown. Everything I've read said my modesty will go right out the window once labor starts, but I'm still not 100% convinced.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
My appointment was great - ultrasound two weeks ago showed that baby is measuring totally on track, fluid levels are great, cervix is 2.4 cm thick/long (which is progress in the right direction), and baby has totally dropped and starting to engage in my pelvis. GBS swab is next appointment (Monday), and everything else is going well!
nectarine / 2220 posts
@JennyG: yeah I have an ultrasound next week to monitor the growth as fundal height is measuring full term and gd babies tend to run big I guess. There's definite talk that they don't plan to let me go past my due date and some indication they they may decide to induce at 38-39 weeks. So, I'm hoping things happen naturally on their own before then as I'm really not loving the induction idea in general.

@redsmarties: I've been having really minor, fleeting cramps as well. Maybe once a day? I'm taking it as a good sign :).
@Grace: Thanks! It's nice to know that I'm not crazy to be asking for these things (if the situation allows for them, of course), and that they're standard somewhere. At least they're starting to catch on about skin to skin.

@Mrs D: I got an invite to a 20% BBB completion event too...probably the same store! Unfortunately, we can't go because the doctor said I'm not to travel more than an hour from the hospital anymore...so I just have the regular 10% off coupon...

As usual, too late to reply to everyone but I gave it a shot!
@.twist.: Yay, I'm so excited for you! I loved seeing the pictures of Lukas and reading your TMI question turned labor thread. It also gave me a scare about how soon my own baby would be here! And yet, I've still got so many things left on my preparation list… LOL. Plus our prenatal classes haven't even started yet! (First one is tomorrow.)
@Alivoo01: Wow, it's so exciting that you're going to have your baby so soon! I would also feel not ready, but I guess I'd rather know ahead of time if the baby was coming early. I think I'd feel even more unprepared if it was a total surprise! Until twist had her baby I didn't really imagine anything happening much before my due date.
@Mrs D: I have basically the same plan as you for my first nursing bras/tanks--2 tanks, 1 sleep bra (or some other soft and stretchy bra), and then 1 more structured bra (probably still without an underwire). Though I'm planning to wait on the structured bra until I have a better idea of what size I'll need. In terms of sizing I seem to be at the low end of my current size so I should be able to go up a couple cup sizes and still fit in the same nursing tanks and sleep bras. I'm hoping my size won't change more than that!
For coming home outfits I packed NB and 0-3 M white side snap tees since they should be the easiest to dress the baby in, but they're pretty boring. If I have time I would like to embroider something cute on them, but nursery decorations are higher priority.
In grad school I used to get together with a couple of friends for s'mores (microwaved) and wine nights! You all are making me want to go out and buy some graham crackers and marshmallows…
During labor I plan on wearing a hospital gown but I did buy a thin, cute and sporty looking bra to wear in the tub. I also packed DH's swim trunks in case I want him get in with me (though he really doesn't want to).
@Strawberrybee: I looked into cord blood donation and one interesting thing I found out is that delayed cord clamping is part of the procedure! It made me want to do it even more since then nobody would be able to complain about it, but I've been a slacker about following up on it and now it's probably too late to make the arrangements.
@Skipper2010: I will either probably use the bassinet that we have in our room next to our bed. It can be easily moved around if I want the baby in the living room, etc. for nap time.
As for me, my one month follow-up blood test showed my platelet levels have stabilized so I'm glad that even though they're low, at least they're not in rapid decline! Today I prepped my cloth diapers and installed the car seat. It feels good to knock a couple of items off the to-do list! My hospital bag is still only halfway packed but I have a list for the rest of it and could throw it together quickly if necessary and survive without anything I forgot. Plus we live about 10 minutes from the hospital.
Has anyone made freezer meals yet? I remember someone had a really ambitious plan but I can't recall who… I would like to get some crock pot meals and casseroles in the freezer but I don't know how much I'll be able to fit in there! A few weeks back I picked, pitted, and froze 10lbs of cherries which are not doing anything to help the freezer space situation. Depending on when the baby comes, my mom is going to be around to do all the cooking and grocery shopping for a week or two, but then we are on our own.

@redsmarties: glad to hear all is well! Your cramps aren't just BH are they? I haven't really had BH so I don't know what they are like. The swab isn't bad, literally takes 2 seconds and done!
@Modern Daisy: I totally have that gurgling sensation that you're talking about! I was trying to google it, and it sounds like its just the muscles down there stretching and letting more air through? What did your doctor say about it?
@Grace: I never really thought about clothing during labour. I imagine I'll just wear a hospital gown for the most part so it doesn't matter if I wreck it.
@lawbee11: do you like your Bravado nursing bra? Which did you get? I think I'll get one of the Bravado ones because I heard awesome reviews. I bought my first nursing bra today but it was just like a cutsie polka dot sleep one from target. I want a nice nude or white one I can wear under t-shirts too.
@Grace: I've been having restless leg syndrome too for the first time this week. It's such a weird feeling!! I also can't figure out how to get comfy in bed because my hips hurt. My exercise ball isn't cutting it anymore.
I took a little trip over to the States today (Port Huron) and got some fabric to make a rug for the nursery and a couple clothing items for babe. It's so hard to resist cute clothing. I'm glad I don't know the sex because it would be even harder to resist, especially the cute girl clothes!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@chanzi: really? For some reason I was under the impression that the opposite was true; that to get the cord blood they needed to clamp immediately, so that it didn't all flow into the baby?
cherry / 233 posts
@StrawberryBee: That's what I had imagined also but when I asked the nurse about it (donation in general, since it requires someone at the hospital to have taken an online course) she mentioned that it involved delayed cord clamping! Internet information on the topic seems inconsistent so it may depend where you have it done and what procedure they're trained to follow.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@delight: No, my BH are different. They don't really feel like anything - I just notice that my belly is really hard and tight, and then it goes away. The cramps are very infrequent - I've only had them about twice, but at least its a sign that things are starting to progress.
@StrawberryBee: Hooray - progress is progress!

@ Alivoo1: Oh wow!! How exciting, it's great that you have some to mentally prepare though! With my induction it was "Oh how does 11am today sound?" You'll do great, being induced isn't all that bad, contractions are contractions, they hurt whether natural or pitocin! So exciting to have our 2nd August baby in July
@sapphiresun: We have the Graco Silhouette Pack n' play and it was a serious pain to set up, I resorted to YouTube (Graco has their own channel with some pretty informative videos
) It doesn't fit through our doorways, but we will be using it instead of a crib until we have a bigger house or come up with something else.
@Delight: I'm glad everything is normal! I bet you're relieved.
@Modern Daisy: Hmm, I wish my Dr. would give me measurements, I just get "your normal for you..." It sounds like everything is going well though, as for the RLP, is that in your hip? I think that's what I've been getting too, at night.
@Grace: I don't think this one is coming early either, but it's a shot in the dark. My first was born at 35 weeks, and my second was induced a day after my due date.
As for clothing during labor I'll be using the hospital gowns, it can get pretty gross especially if they break your water! I did buy a hospital gown set that came with shorts a top and pants for afterwards. I wore my bra during labor with M, and when they handed her to me she pooped all over me and my bra. I had them throw it away!!
I had an appt today too, they did the GBS swab, and another cervical check. He didn't mention if I was dilated, although I know it doesn't mean a whole lot this early on, but more importantly my cervix is continuing to shorten and now stretch. He doesn't give me numbers though, which can be a little frustrating, I instead hear "you're normal for you". He delivered my last baby, and we went through a lot of the same things, so yes I suppose he's right. I'm kind of excited that I haven't gained a pound in the last 3 weeks, I guess all this fruit and salad is paying off! That's the best thing about being pregnant in the summer, there's so much fruit available!!
We've made a little progress with the sleeping arrangements, and this weekend I plan to overhaul their closets
We're going to buy a flatscreen tv for our room (and get rid of the behemoth tv and entertainment center we have in our room) that will free up so much room
This past weekend we bought a second stroller, infant seat, and pack n play, and I played with them forever. We got a Peg Perego Pliko and Primo Viaggio SIP, they're so fun to play with!!

@delight: One of the ways I convinced DH to not find out the sex was by telling him it would help me not buy as much stuff! I still want to buy all the things, but not knowing does make it easier to avoid doing.

@chanzi: I cleaned out my freezer yesterday and bought the groceries to make three meals from this site today:
http://www.mamaandbabylove.com/2011/04/05/freezer-cooking-with-slow-cooker-recipes/
My goal is to make 3 meals a week for the next 3 weeks so I have about 18-20 meals in the freezer. All ready to pop in the crockpot.
AFM, I finished the nursery (except for art for the wall) yesterday. I plan on cleaning out my car and installing the carseat tomorrow. My hospital bag is partially packed. I have an appointment Thursday to get a sonogram to estimate the baby's size. My husband's favorite joke is that it's a 10 pounder (yeah, NOT funny). Here's to hoping baby is of normal size!
