@delight: Mine "watches" TV too. She loves hockey - I assume the mostly white screen with dark figures is interesting to her. I always thought I'd be a no TV parent, but we have a tiny apartment, so if I ever want to watch, she can see.
She's 12 weeks tomorrow, and probably last week she started grabbing/hitting the toys on her play mat. I had a cheapie mat that the toys were way too high for her to reach, but she would kick the side bars and make them swing and laugh hysterically. Last weekend her grandpa bought her the Kick and Play piano mat and the toys are a bit lower, so she's all about hitting them and staring at herself in the mirror.

@delight: K started intentionally swatting at things late last week (on her kick n play mat). She did it sporadically the first few days and then Tuesday of this week (6W5D) she did it multiples times in one play session. I love it - its so fun now that she engages so much more!!
@Sapphiresun: Thats the mat we have and K just frickin loves it. Its honestly one of the things we use to calm her down - if she is crying and I can get her to calm down enough to see the baby in the mirror looking back at her she stops fussing and smiles...I'll post a picture it melts my heart!

@delight: I just put Hercules on and B 'watched' about 20 mins of it while I did my hair. She also loves to sit on daddy's lap and watch his video games
I don't have a play mat for her, but she throws her hands around when she's in her swing and bouncer and I thought it was because she was trying to grab the hanging monkeys. We were are my friends the other day and she has a mammaroo and the toys hang really low on it, she was constantly hitting them. I guess I should try and get her a play mat.
B will be 3 months on Sunday. For the last week she's been crying /fussing from about noon until bedtime which is super uncharacteristic of her. I mentioned it at the dr appt and said I wasn't super concerned about it, that I figured she was just growing or something. When the dr checked her she said everything seemed fine but that she might be achy from a cold. Is this a wonder week period? I also thought that maybe she was teething a bit or something as she's super drooly. The dr said try giving her tylenol and seeing if it calms her and then I would know if it was a pain thing. I don't really want to just be giving tylenol but she's soo fussy. It's getting super hard to handle. My husband has been working late and spending extra time at the gym as he has a crossfit competition next week. It's so frustrating that he's not here.. but how can I hold it against him that he's working. Ugh. haha vent over.. back to my crying baby haha

@delight: nope, no grabbing here! DH keeps on trying to 'encourage' her ;).
@Mrs D: how adorable!
We had a heck of a last day of maternity leave yesterday. E didn't want to be disconnected from me, and after trying three times to put her to sleep (and her eyes popping open every single time) I handed her off to DH and went to bed. She fussed for a while, but he was able to get her over to the RnP still asleep. Was able to get her to sleep to my alarm :).
So far the first day back at work has been busy!! I feel great being productive though; they decorated my office for my return, and my boss told me he was glad I was back :). I'm on my second pumping session now, and I hesitate to even post this, but so far it's going great! I pumped out 4.5oz this morning from one side as she nursed the other, pumped it has to be over 6 oz at 10:30am here at my desk, and am now working great on my second pump at 3:30 (I couldn't quite squeeze in a third, and I leave in an hour...). I can't tell exact measurements at work because I'm pumping directly into bags.
The only snag is that I forgot my cooler bag. Debating leaving the milk in my minifridge until Monday. I don't /think/ they cut the power to the offices over the weekend... I may also be able to find some ice in the freezer and jury rig something for the 30 minute drive home.

@delight: DS loves the moving lights on our play mat and loves looking at himself in the mirror during tummy time. He occasionally swats at the hanging toys, but he rather watch the lights and make conversation with himself. haha!
@Mrs D: OMG!!!!!! That is so flipping cute!!!! My heart totally melted looking at that picture!!! (yes, all the exclamations are needed. That's how cute she is. haha)
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@StrawberryBee: Yay for a good first day back to work and great pumping sessions. Since your commute is only 30 minutes, I think it might be okay without a cooler bag since milk is technically good at room temp for up to 6 hours.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Alivoo01: thanks! I ended up taking some ice from the big fridge in the office kitchen and putting it plus the milk bags in a big, heavy duty plastic bag. The kicker is that I had a cooler bag in my office for months, but took it home when I started maternity leave lol.
So, anybody who's planning on pumping at work: learn from my mistakes! Keep a spare cooler bag at your desk
I pumped 16 oz today, and she only drank 12. Woohoo!!

@Mrs D: Hillarious. I LOVE this mat. You guys, I put her down on this mat to play on the floor and had time to bake home made apple turnovers and only had to go settle her once. She's a little more suspicious of her friend in the mirror than your little one is though.
@MrsB2012: There's a wonder week "Smooth transitions" 11.5-12.5 weeks post due date so that could be it if your baby was a little early?

@Mrs D: thanks, I was so proud!
Ugh, so our washer just died -- in the middle of a load of dirty cloth diapers. Still filled with dirty water. I put them in trash bags and drove myself and e the half hour to my moms house, while DH worked on it. It's now 2am and we're finally trying to go to bed. DH thinks he may have it figured out, and is going to try to find a part tomorrow.
Good times!

@Mrs D: I totally missed that pic before, that's sooo cute! I'm gonna go buy B one today after our walk this morning
@Sapphiresun: yeah she was 3 weeks early so maybe that's it? She's super happy in the morning then around noon she starts to freak out. She won't nap during the day so I'm wondering if she's getting over tired. I put her in her carrier yesterday and the day before while I was in the house and she slept in there. Since I've started to put her to bed earlier, she sleeps for way longer at night. Isn't that kinda strange? Sleeping longer when she goes to bed earlier?
Oh boy. I was pumping to relieve some pressure before I feed B as my titties were literally exploding.. I wasn't paying attention because I was typing this stuff and I didn't realiE my bottle overfilled and was pouring onto my bed. Hahah
nectarine / 2220 posts
@MrsB2012: Oh, ok. 3 weeks early it could even still be the second leap then maybe? Patterns leap is expected sometime between 7.5-9.5 weeks after EDD. You barely even get a break between 2/3.

FYI gap has 40% off women's and 30% off baby today! I'm caving and buying a pair of jeans to fit my chubby self now bc I am suck if my maternity ones and my pre preg ones aren't close to fitting!

@delight: S has been batting at the toys on his play gym for a while now. I grasped a toy yesterday too! I was so excited. And I just got him this toy for his car seat and he loves it and bats at it a lot. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11712283
@Sapphiresun: S has that piano gym too and he loves it. We also have the Skip Hop treetop gym but he likes the piano one so much more. I think it's the mirror.

@JamieLee: ooh, I may get that for E with some of our gift cards!
E finally rolled over! woohoo! Still no reaching for things. Unfortunately I missed her doing it because I was downstairs

@StrawberryBee: Don't you just hate when things like that happen??? I left the lids to my pump bottles at home one day. I totally freaked and went to the hive for suggestions on what to do. So another tip for you ladies, keep milk bags in your pumping bag just in case also!!!
And yay for E rolling!!!
@MrsB2012: That's awesome(?) that you had so much milk it was pouring out of the bottles!! How much did you end up pumping goodness!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Alivoo01: I saw your post! There are some pretty creative bees out there :).
I actually have been pumping straight into bags at work. Easier to take home (takes up less space) and my SIL gave me a huge stash, so no bottles to clean at night! Except for the ones she drinks from ;).
Bees, take a look at where E is sleeping!! DH got her to sleep in her crib now twice today. Unfortunately they aren't for a long period of time (ten minutes?). I have to admit though, it was really cool to watch her on the monitor from work today and talk to her via my phone/the foscam.

@StrawberryBee: LO rolled over for DH a few days ago, but I missed it too, and she hasn't done it again.

@MrsB2012: Wha?? Wow you're producing a ton, good job!!
@StrawberryBee: Yes! Awesome on the crib sleeping!!
Ok so I bought a can of formula yesterday Something is up with my supply, like it's tanking. I hardly ever have time to pump but out of curiosity I did Saturday morning, while she was nursing the other side and I got less than an ounce!!! Not good. I haven't given her formula yet,but she is super fussy while nursing, she yanks, pushes, pulls away and is hungry 20 minutes later. My nipples are sore for the first time since she was born
nectarine / 2466 posts
@Alivoo01: @StbHisMrs: I only produce a crazy amount in the morning. I think it's completely messing with my supply during the day. ( that one particular morning I had the full bottle which is the 5oz for the last marker, and then I'm sure there was a good 2 oz on the floor before I realized it, maybe more.) For the last few days she's been sleeping 10-11 hours at night ( I know!) so I'm so engorged and spraying everywhere. Then during the day, I feel empty and she's been soooooooooo fussy. Screaming from noon until bed. I'll feed her, she'll eat her normal amount, then be screaming like half hour later. I won't think to feed her again as she's just eaten, so I'll try everything else first and then try feeding. Lo and behold, she'll eat again. I was considering trying to give her rice cereal at noon to see if it helps fill her up and see if she's a bit better? Or I was thinking of just trying to pump after she eats during the day and see if that will help get my supply up? Any suggestions? I feel like she's a little young to start rice cereal but she can sit in her bumbo and keep her head up with no problems so I think she could be ready. She won't take a bottle so I can't supplement with formula either.
She has her first cold too, it's so sad. She's so congested Dh woke me up at 4am because her breathing was so awful. Good thing one of my friends got me one of the nasal sucky things and baby vics vapour rub for a shower present so we pulled that stuff out to try and help her. It's soo sad to see her sick.
@StbHisMrs: DOn't feel bad if you have to give her some additional formula. I know you said you don't have time, but can you pump the other side while she's eating to try and get your supply up? Is she getting a cold at all? B has troubles eating with her stuffy nose so she's the same way pulling off and fussing and stuff.
@StrawberryBee: Nice on the crib sleeping! I have a different brand of the same type of monitor, I should set it up so DH can peek in on her at work.
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@MrsB2012: I didn't put 2 and 2 together, she does have a cold and has been pretty stuffy I can't get her to take a bottle from me, her Great Grandma is the only one who has been successful. I'll give it another shot tomorrow, I'm not sure why I'm holding back, her sister was formula fed, should be no big deal.
I was nursing her on one side and pumping the other at the same time in the morning after a few hours between. I'm hoping that was just a fluke and I'm producing more than that!!!
nectarine / 2466 posts
@StbHisMrs: Maybe the cold is causing her troubles eating, hopefully once she feels better your supply gets better too, if that's the issue at all. You're probably producing more, some people just can't pump out much. Aside from the morning, if I pump I rarely get more than an ounce (from both combined) if I just randomly pump. I have to pump while she's nursing and even then I rarely get more than a couple ounces. It's annoying, but now that she's completely stopped taking a bottle from anyone, it doesn't really matter
That's weird how only GGrandma can get her to take the bottle, special touch I guess hey.

@MrsB2012: That's an awesome checkup! I can't wait until Paige can go in the Jolly Jumper. She loves to stand and bounce, so I'm sure she'll love it.
P kicks the stuff on the playmat, but I think she's just kicking for the love of kicking, rather than to kick things.
@StrawberryBee: I'm glad you had a great day back at work! Although super sucky about your washing machine. And doesn't that always happen with the dirtiest most inconvenient load? Yea for the crib sleeping!!
Oh, poor babies with colds! I hope they get better soon!
Hubs thinks he has a cold, so he went to sleep in the guest room downstairs. I'm trying to gear up the courage to put P to sleep in her room (which is upstairs across the hall from us). It's a good time to try, because if she has to cry a little louder to be heard, she won't wake him up...

@StrawberryBee: That’s a sweet pic of your LO sleeping in the crib! And un-swaddled?! I’m jealous. I’m not looking forward to swaddle weaning at all. Swaddling is like an instant cue that it’s bedtime for DS. Plus, his arms and legs flail around like crazy. Even though he’s found his hand and sucks on it, he doesn’t suck on his thumb, but rather the meaty part of his hand between his thumb and forefinger. Since he can’t “suck” on anything, he gets frustrated and whines/cries.
@StbHisMrs: Do you take any supplements? I know that’s worked for some people. I know you said you don’t have time to pump, but pumping after (or during) a nursing session empties your boobs which tells your body to make more. Otherwise, your body sees that you still have milk and doesn’t produce as much. Supply and demand.
@MrsB2012: Oh no on being sick AND congested?! Poor girl!! But 10-11 hours of sleep is awesome!!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
I went to pick up DS yesterday from daycare and the director was holding him while we were catching up on that day's activities. In the middle of the conversation, DS reached out to me with both hands as if he was coming to me and wanted me to hold him. I totally died right there. He's only 15 weeks so it could be a total fluke, but I don't care!!! haha!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@StbHisMrs: aww, I'm sorry to hear about your supply. But if you have to supplement (or switch) to FF, know that you did the best you could and have already provided great help to your baby.
Have you tried all the usual things, drinking more, taking mother's milk tea, fenugreek, lactation cookies, oatmeal, etc etc?
@MrsB2012: Is it possible it's another growth spurt and she's just really that hungry? Sad sick baby :(. How is the snot sucker working for you? does it make a big difference?
@Grace: the part for the washer should hopefully be coming today. Cross your fingers!!!
@Alivoo01: Thanks! But don't be too jealous, she can only sleep for ten minutes that way ;). We really stopped swaddling a while ago, so it isn't an adjustment for her to not have it. If we were swaddling she'd probably sleep longer!

Someone please calm me down and tell me that its ok the K has not pooped today? She has had 6 big wet diapers (like the diaper was almost maxed out and is not bright yellow in color) so I am not spooked about her being dehydrated...but still is no poop normal for an EBF baby?
nectarine / 2220 posts
@Mrs D: I did read that after six weeks it's normal to go even a couple days without pooping. I've been WAITING for this to happen, as she still poops after almost every feeding.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Sapphiresun: well literally as I typed that she blew out bigger than ever before! Out the front back and all sides!!! Guess if she was backed up she isn't now! Thanks for the input!!!!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Mrs D: from weeks 5-8, L would sometimes go three days without a poop. Then she'd have a massive one and DH and I would have to tag team the clean up. Everything I've read online says it's ok for babies to go a few days between poops! I was worried about it at the time.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Mrs D: Such a cute pic of K on the play mat! Lol I just saw your update about the poop--I was going to tell you that it's normal but be prepared for a huge poop! Anytime M goes that long without a poop she always has a blowout.
@StrawberryBee: Glad you had a great first day back at work! And yay for E rolling over!
@Alivoo01: Such a sweet story about your LO reaching for you! He totally did it on purpose
M swats at stuff sometimes on the play mat, but I can't tell if it's intentional or if she's just flailing. I've tried encouraging her to grasp/swat toys, but most of the time she lies on the mat trying to shove both hands in her mouth...I swear she could do that all day long.
She had a really good nap day today! And the naps were in her crib, so I am glad she didn't have an issue transitioning to naps in the crib (previously she was napping in the PNP in our room). I still don't think I'm ready to move her to the crib for nighttime sleep, though. Gah I am a bigger baby than she is!!
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@Alivoo01: That's so cute he reached for you!! Thank you for the advice, I need to get up earlier so I can pump with her. I haven't tried any supplements. I have been adding flaxseed to my steelcut oats in the am, if that helps at all.
@StrawberryBee: Thank you
I have all the ingredients to make lactation cookie, just need to do it!
Anyone else's baby not let you put them down? I almost have to hold her all day long, she won't tolerate anyone else holding her. I put her down I need to do something and she screams her little head off until I pick her up. Spoiled much?
nectarine / 2466 posts
@StbHisMrs: B likes to be held all day as well, only she's not picky on who holds her. The last few days I've strapped my carrier on and tried to get stuff done that way so at least I'm not stuck doing nothing while holding her
@Mrs D: B goes almost a week at times without pooping. I've had to throw out pi's that she's ruined from the blowout that comes with that hhah. As long as the movement isn't formed, they still have wet diapers and they don't strain, it's OK
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@MrsB2012: Yes thank goodness for carriers! You can usually find her strapped to my front while I'm at work
nectarine / 2220 posts
@StbHisMrs: Unfortunately N is not a fan of being put down either. And she doesn't like it if I sit either. Only to be carried by me while I walk around. So, she spends a lot of time in the K'tan. I've just been going with it (and a lot of other high maintenance things) for the "4th trimester" but she'll be 3 months on Saturday.... so I think she's about to start feeling like I'm a really mean mommy as I start trying to get her to be more independent.
And I'm kind of jealous about you babies that don't poop constantly. Mine still goes probably at least 5 times a day. And I still had to bath her this morning after a blowout. I seriously don't know where it all comes from.
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@Sapphiresun: Both Charlie and her sister are/were that way with sitting, it's only ok to sit while sleeping or eating. Sur e does wear on the back.
Charlie poops a little bit after every feeding still. She has only gone a full day once.

@delight: @lawbee11: @MrsB2012: Thanks for the feedback ladies!!!
@MrsB2012: My mom told me early on to have a bucket nearby (we leave it in the laundry room) and when K has a blowout or serious mess that gets on her clothes/blankets/swaddlers I quickly put hot water and a half a cup of Borax (a dry detergent) in the bucket and get the item into it. I dont always get to cleaning it in the washer for a few days but I just let it soak. As long as you get it in there while the mess is still wet I have so far not had any permanent stains!
@Alivoo01: That is so cute he reached for you!!!
For you ladies who's LO's are napping in their crib how did you transition them to it? K currently naps in her swing or bouncer really well (she usually has 1 or 2 naps that last between an hour or two) but when I have tried to get her in her crib she only lasts 20 mins.
Also - for ladies who have transitioned to the crib at night, how on earth did you do it?! Ugh - I just cannot get the guts to do it!!! K currently sleeps consistently from 9:30/10 until 3:30/5 (depending on the night) - she is 8 weeks today. I have tried moving her bedtime up to 8ish and she just ends up fussing until 9:30 or so. So I have given up on that. But since I only have 4 weeks left until I got back to work I'd like to start moving her over to the crib but am terrified!!!
nectarine / 2530 posts
@Mrs D: Same for us and crib sleep! I don't know if it's the sort of thing where you tough it out until they get used to sleeping in the crib? E is almost 12 weeks (holy crap) and she's going to start outgrowing things soon. I have to admit that I'm bad about latching her into the RnP since it typically wakes her up, but her legs are starting to get strong and she'll probably catapult herself out of it soon.
Washer is (for now) fixed and working! WOOHOO!!! Can we say, 'load of baby clothes and burp cloths asap"?
Pumping at work before a meeting, ladadadee... I just told my (male) boss what I was doing behind the closed door twice a day lol. All my bosses kind of nominally knew what I was planning to do anyway, but I wanted to remind him. Good thing we're all close!
Halloween is tomorrow, eeeee!! Unfortunately the person we were going to go trick or treating with is sick :(. Not sure if I should bring E out with her family (it is outside, after all).
pomelo / 5326 posts
@Mrs D: I transitioned her at three weeks old to crib but she never took to sleeping in swing or bouncer. Before that she was in cradle in our room. I just kept everything else the same: swaddle and noise machine. It took a week and now she naps and sleeps great in crib. Good luck!
