@Mrs D: How exciting!! New builds are always awesome! Good luck!!!

All the weeks run together now, but I’d have to go home and check my log to see if DS had a growth spurt that week. I want to say yes though…

@Delight: DS slept mostly unswaddled the past week minus 2 partial nights, and I think he’s starting to get used to sleeping unswaddled now. It was a (and still is) a super rough week though. He was getting up every 30 minutes – hour. OMG. I could die of exhaustion. However, he has been co-sleeping with me the past week because I was tired of getting up and down every 30 minutes to tend to him. Last night though, he slept in 3 hour stretches again, only waking to nurse. Woohoo!! Dunno if it was a fluke or not, but I’ll take it! Hubby prefers me and DS co-sleeping, and I love it also, but don’t want DS to get used to it because I want him to sleep in his crib. Plus, he’s a total mover and ends up turning around and kicking me in the middle of the night!

And L is such a cute strawberry!! Even if she is a bit sour. Haha!

Y'all, I think we have a potential sick baby..... DS started having some snot in his nose that required me to suction out all day yesterday, but was clear so I thought it was allergies. This morning, his snot was a little yellow. Nooooooo. Thankfully, no fever (yet). Hoping it stays this way. It doesn't seem to bother or affect DS, and he smiles when I insert the suction bulb in his nose, which I find quite odd and funny.

@Alivoo01: Oh no...fingers crossed its nothing!!! I used the nose freida on K the other day and extracted an inch long solid white snot...SO gross!!!

  4. Alivoo01

    wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@Mrs D: I'm still struggling to use the NoseFrida. I'm even pointing it towards the opening in the back of the nose so we're still using the hospital provided suction bulb. I clean it out daily, but still get creeped out thinking about those mold pictures that were posted awhile back. *shudders*

@Alivoo01: maybe its wrong or bad (hope not) but I rarely get the whole boogie with the freida...I usually get it out of the nose and have to use my finger a bit to pull it the rest of the way...so gross

@Mrs D: LOL!! I totally have pulled out plenty of boogers with my fingers. Maybe I did get a bad one because I suck so effing hard on it (I feel like my head might explode) and nada!

@Sapphiresun: Halloween was fun. Paige and I went to my work's potluck. She was dressed as a ladybug and all my coworkers loved her.

@delight: Crib sleep was interesting. It basically went to crap - wakeups every 1.5 hrs. Wasn't sure if I should change something or just wait it out until she got used to it. My aunt suggested a bunch of stuff and Sunday night, I put rolled up blankets around her so the crib feels smaller (how 2 in of blanket makes a crib feel smaller, I'll never know). I turned up the space heater 1 degree too. Well, it worked. I'm getting 4-6 hrs at the first stretch, then usually 3 hr. It's pretty awesome.

@Mrs D: THERE'S AN 8-WEEK GROWTH SPURT?!?!?!! Sunnufabitch, maybe that's why she was a mess all last week! Maybe it had nothing to do with the crib at all!!

@Alivoo01: Oh no! I hope he's ok. Hubs has a cold right now and I'm hoping breastfeeding keeps it away from P.

DS tested positive for RSV. Thankfully, he's taking it like a champ. No fever, just TONS of congestion and drainage which causes him to cough. That mucousy cough that breaks my heart... The doctor prescribed a nebulizer for every 4-6 hours. He has a follow up next week, but the dr says it'll take 2-3 WEEKS for it to run its course. My poor baby!!!

@Grace: I dont know for sure but K was an absolute mess Sat-Mon...I blame a growth spurt!

@Alivoo01: Oh no...I dont know what RSV is but I hope he feels better soon!

K had her 2 month appointment (seriously...I cant believe how "behind" all of you I am) yesterday. Her stats were 11lbs 3oz and 23.25". Doctor was very pleased with her growth and sleep.

She has been in her big girl crib (in her room) since Friday and all has been well - which makes me feel pretty good. DH is having a hard time sleeping with the monitor on to which he said yesterday "I'll just wait to come back in our room until we no longer need the monitor"....Uh....I had to break it to him that that is years! He changed his mind.

I have squared away K's Christmas ideas:
Need - solid food materials (spoons/bowls)
    Want - Anywhere Chair
Wear - 6 month white onsies (long and short sleeve)
Read - Some Christmas Books and one Michigan book

Pretty proud to have that sorted out!!!

And, I started researching sign language these last few days. Everything seems to indicate starting it around 4 months, so I have until the first of the year to learn it myself and really start using it! Anyone else planning to sign? We are going to start with 6 (More, Please, Thank You, All Done, Milk and Diaper).

  11. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

@Mrs D: I'm trained to teach baby sign, so we will definitely be using it over here! Four months sounds good - repetition is key! Haha, but I already talk with my hands...so LO is used to seeing gestures.
@Alivoo01: Oh, I'm SO sorry about the RSV. I really hope he starts feeling better soon.

AFM, I'm pretty useless on the boards lately - its so much tougher to reply from my phone! K is doing well - she's almost 3 months (already!!), and she's totally hitting growth spurt/wonder week. We were getting 6-7 hour stretches at night, and for the last 3 nights, its been 4 hours followed by a wakeup every 1-2 hours after that. Blech. Her daytime sleep is pretty awful as well. Luckily she's happy when she's awake. Anyone else dealing with growth spurt issues?

So...ladies who are back to work and pumping...I have 12 (5oz) bottles, 6 (8oz) bottles and 6 (2.5oz) bottles. I am figuring I can use the 8oz and 2.5oz at home for my evening pump and morning pump sessions. That leaves me enough bottles to leave 5 (5oz bottles) with milk for the day care and take 4 to work with me for pumping. I am planning to pump at 10pm ish before going to bed, at 5am before K gets up and then twice at work. I have two sets of pumping accessories and two cooler bags (1 for me at work and 1 for daycare).

Right now I am getting 5oz with 10 mins of pumping at 5am - I hope by going for 20 mins I can get more like 6-7oz. I am hoping to get 4oz when I start pumping at night (I need K to go to bed a little earlier before I can do this) - thats 8oz from my home pumping. I should get another 10oz from my two pumping sessions at work. Thats 20oz from pumping - plus I'll be feeding K still once in the AM (*right before going to work) and once in the evening (before she goes down) - I figure 20oz should cover the day time.

I'm going to cross post on the main boards but wanted some of your thoughts on my plans? I have 3 weeks before going back and I am trying to spend them getting her on this schedule along with a napping schedule. Would love any feedback you ladies have on my schedule, pumping plans, oz needs and supplies I have!

@Alivoo01: hope your babe is better soon B had a horrible cold that lasted for about 7-10 days, she's finally better these last few days. It's so heartbreaking. Are the nebulizers helping at all?
@Mrs D: good Christmas ideas! What are michigan books?
@redsmarties: do you just sign the word as you're saying it in conversation? Or do you like sit down and sign the few words over and over as like a teaching lesson? What's the best way to introduce signs? We hit a big growth spurt or something around 3 months maybe just over, it was the worst one yet, I'm glad we're past it, B cried for like almost 2 weeks straight. ( a growth spurt and cold combined, it was horrid)

We randomly put B in her crib 2 nights ago and she slept straight through for 10 hours. Last night she woke up after 7 hours for a feed then went back down. However, I was up until 4am cu I had such anxiety with her out of our room. It's so hard on me! We hooked up our wifi monitor thingy so now I can just watch her on my phone so I hope that helps tonight. I almost broke down and brought her back in our room last night as I hated it so much. Then I thought if my 3.5 month old can handle it I should be able as well haha.

I still can't get her to take a bottle, she gags on it now. Doesn't make any sense if she took it for the first 2 months and didn't gag why she does now. I have 4 different bottles and she freaks out over all of them. Hubs and I went out for dinner twice this week with out her but we could only be gone for just over 2 hours before she's hungry. It's so frustrating! Especially with staff parties coming up for Xmas. I don't know what else to do. Anyone else find a trick?

@Mrs D: My biggest piece of advice for pumping at work (and I only do it two times at work too) is that expect it to take longer than it does at home. I swear some days I'm ten minutes into it before I see anything coming out, and I usually stop the pump at 30 minutes because I just can't be behind closed doors any longer. One day this past week I let it go because I was engrossed in doing something for work (I pump at my desk) and it auto-shut off at 40 minutes something ^^;;.

Also, don't forget the time for setup and cleaning up. Getting undressed, redressed, wiping down all the parts and putting them in the fridge...it's more time consuming than you'd think.

I've also rigged my Medela to pump into lansinoh bags (bandage/fabric tape the bag around the pump part), which allows me more flexibility with typing than the hard bottles.

I have...four sets of pump parts now, I think. I use up three individual pump parts each day: one in the morning on the side she isn't nursing, and two at work. The two at work get reused for the second pump session (I take them apart, dry them off with a paper towel, and put them in a bag in the fridge). Everything gets washed that evening. Even with four, I still feel like I'm always cleaning parts!

@MrsB2012: so crazy! I had some major anxiety last night as I put G down in his crib last night and I had the monitor on him. I missed him and was all emotional and kept wanting him to wake up and cry so I could get him. (So terrible) but he didn't and slept like a champ. AND he was taking a bottle really good at two months and now he had total melt down whenever we try to give him a bottle here even used to take a bottle from me! Tonight is our anniversary..wondering how our dinner will go. going to try again with the bottle otherwise we are screwed as well with the two hour window.

Eta tell me if u figure out the bottle thing! Good luck!

@BabyMats: Is it possible G would take the bottle if you weren't around?

We left E for the first time with my mom yesterday (it was my birthday and DH and I went to the movies). She had a last minute feeding, fell asleep, and slept the entire time we were gone! So there is hope.

@StrawberryBee: that is awesome that E slept while u were out. Happy belated Birthday!!
I would leave the room and MIL tried to give it to him when I went to the market one day and full on meltdown. I have 5 weeks to try and give him the bottle before I go back to work.

@BabyMats: Thanks! and boo. Babies are so funny. I tried to feed a leftover bottle to E after work one day, and she kept on giving me this look like, "you aren't supposed to be giving me my milk this way!". She kept on turning her head towards my chest.

Have you tried different bottles? (I know that gets expensive) Or maybe a different flow nipple?

  20. BabyMats

    nectarine / 2031 posts

@StrawberryBee: lol G grabs my shirt already and pulls it. Sometimes down but right now just pulls it like, "come on out with it!" Dirty look and everything!
I bought a few different nipples and bottles that I am going to try one at a time. He is already a pretty stubborn baby. Haha

@MrsB2012: @BabyMats: ugh we are having trouble with the bottle too! She was taking it for awhile but now screams bloody murder if someone tries to bottle feed her. I find her a bit clingy to me these days though. I try to pass her off to people often but she starts to cry if I'm not holding her. I think this is one of the reasons she doesn't like taking a bottle these days because it involves being with someone else.

@Mrs D: I have no advice on the pumping but good luck with your transition back to work. It sounds like you have enough bottles and a solid plan! Do you have a nice place to pump at work?

@Alivoo01: hope LO is feeling better!!

I feel like I haven't contributed much lately here but not too much new going on! LO hits three months this week. Crazy how fast time is flying.

@BabyMats: oh, FYI! If you spend $10 at babies r us you can get a free holiday Dr Brown's bottle. Might be a good way to try that one if you don't have them already:

    http://mojosavings.com/free-dr-browns-holiday-bottle-purchase-babies-r-us/

I had no idea that BRU would allow me to price match to Amazon.com. I got the Fisher Price booster seat for $18, plus the free bottle, and used a gift card so it was 'free'.

I also just picked up the Fisher Price Little People farm for $8. The manager came racing over to find out why the cashier had price adjusted so low, and then double-checked all my coupons ;).

@StrawberryBee: Happy birthday! So nice to have a date night.

I've been useless on the boards lately. N turned 3 months on the 3rd, and really nothing happening too exciting lately. She's still sleeping good stretches through the night and I'm loving that. She had her 2month shots a little late, and handled them like a champ. And she's up to 12lbs 12oz. No wonder she was feeling so heavy!

@BabyMats: One of the thngs I've read is to give them the nipple of the bottle to 'play' with. Yesterday and today I've been giving it to her to suck on a she seems a bit more receptive to it. I'm going to try this for like 5 days then try it on a bottle and see if there's any progress. I'll let ya know.

@Mrs D: I agree with @strawberrybee:, don’t forget about setting up and cleaning up. It takes me about 10 minutes total for both so I only pump for 20 minutes so that I’m back at my desk 30 minutes later. P

    @StrawberryBee: Happy belated birthday!!

I saw the meet up and I’m totally going!! If anything, for the free $$$ haha! It’s at any Babies R Us right? It didn’t specify in the email.

@JamieLee: Awesome deals! I'll have to follow her on FB!! Thanks!!

AFM: DS is still heavily congested and we've been sleeping sitting up due to all the drainage that causes him to vomit in the morning. Sigh. Not that I mind all the extra cuddling and sleeping with him, I'm just really, really worried about putting him back in his crib.

Previously, I'd swaddle him, rock him a bit, kiss him goodnight then put him down in his crib and turn on his mobile. Easy peasy. Now, we're nursing to sleep and are co-sleeping... totally different. YIKES!!!

Anyone else going through 3 month growth spurt? I have to assume that's what this is. E is now waking up at least once during the night to feed, and is eating several ounces more while home with DH (yikes!). My poor nips; I think the increased pumping is really doing a number on them.

@StrawberryBee: hell yes- 3 month growth spurt over here! She has been attached to me just about nonstop for the last four days. She's a lot harder to get to sleep at night, is waking up much more frequently, and won't let me put her down during the day. On the positive side, she's learning things- she can grab a toy with two hands and shove it in her mouth. I hope it gets better for you soon!

@Alivoo01: So sorry about the RSV! Hope he's feeling better!

@Mrs D: We're planning to sign! My DH successfully did it with his other kids. I think he said he started signing to them around 5 months but they didn't sign back until around 7 months. I hope it works and M doesn't just stare at me like I'm crazy.

@MrsB2012: Ugh we're still struggling with bottles too. M gags on them...she just likes my boobs more, I guess! We're going to keep trying at least every other day.

@StrawberryBee: @redsmarties: Ugh we're going through the 3-month growth spurt, too. For the past week she's been waking up twice at night instead of once, and a few times she's woken up an hour after I put her down (she NEVER used to do this). I hope it passes soon--I am tired! But she's also doing so much more than she used to. She is babbling all the time (she even says "mama"--I know it's a coincidence and she's just stringing sounds together, but I love when she says it). She's grasping toys and bringing them to her mouth, and she just started arching her back when she's lying down (like she's trying to roll from back to belly). I love all the new stuff she's learning to do, but some days I miss my snuggly newborn. She's growing too fast!

@Alivoo01: Sorry to hear about the RSV. My little man caught his first cold too and hearing those sniffles is just heartbreaking! We ran the starry night humidifier in his room at night, but I don't know that it helped much. Is your LO feeling better?

@lawbee11: Isn't it amazing watching them grow and discover things? It really is crazy how time flies though. I'm worried that I'm going to have baby fever again too soon! lol

It's so hard to keep up on these boards nowadays! Has anyone else had pictures taken with santa yet? I know it's so early, but we just happened to be at the mall and there were no lines so we went for it. DS didn't smile, but he didn't cry either. He had a "mom what are you doing to me now?" look on his face. I'm so excited for baby's first Christmas!

    wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@skipper2010: I didn't find the humidifier helpful either. If anything, the cool mist felt cold upon impact. No bueno! He's currently on a nebulizer which helps open his airways and break up the mucous. We also have to sleep sitting up. He's feeling better, but at his follow up appt, the dr estimates another 3 weeks before full recovery. Boo! Sorry to hear your LO is sick. Give him extra hugs and kisses from me wishing him full health soon!!!

@skipper2010: I'm finding it hard to keep up too! It I love reading our August thread every few days!

L's grandma and I are going to take her for her Santa pictures on Monday. We are trying to beat the rush! I can't wait to see all our August babies' Santa pictures! I'm super excited for the first Xmas too! And we don't have to buy too much for LOs this hear because it's not like they can open the gifts anyways!

@redsmarties: L just started grabbing things and shoving them in her mouth too. So cute!! It's fun watching her bat at her toys now on the activity mat.

@lawbee11: we totally struggle with bottles. I think I'm going to try a faster flow nipple. I know I have a fast let down and I think maybe the newborn nipples are way too slow. She starts sucking and gets upset, so maybe she's just frustrated at the small amounts of milk. I'm starting to get frustrated that she hates the bottle though. Makes it very hard to leave her and enjoy myself. I run to the store and the whole time I'm worried that she's just freaking out at home.

@StrawberryBee: L is 3 months tomorrow and I haven't noticed any changes in her so maybe she still needs to hit her growth spurt.

I'm just starting to pack away the 0-3 month clothes and get into the 3-6m clothing. L just hit 12 lbs. She is sleeping great at night but naps are hit and miss. She usually has 5 naps a day but a few of them are 30 mins. I want her to have three naps that are longer. The 30 min nap sucks. Just enough time to make lunch....not enough time to eat it!

@lawbee11: I know, between her taking forever to go to sleep for the night, waking up a few hours later to feed, and then me having to wake up at 6 for work...ugh. Hope things start to settle down for you soon!

@skipper2010: that sounds so cute! I've already warned work that I want to take a day off to have pictures taken with Santa, but it's just too busy right now. I'm torn between holding off until she's just a tiny bit older/closer to Christmas vs. dealing with the crowds and insane lines.

@delight: For E it hit right after three months. Not that that means anything!

DH put her in a pile of leaves today and snapped some pictures. I nearly died laughing when I saw it on my phone at lunch XD
