@dcw6411: I'm so sorry. I've gotten used to "unexplained" as the reasons for various issues I have dealt with. Its tough to accept. Keep your spirits up! The baby is fighting and hanging on!

@dcw6411: I'm so sorry that you are having a rough time. I wish there was something I could do to help. Sending lots of virtual hugs though! I'm glad that your DH can make it home for at least the weekend, and that you have help from family.

@MrsSCB: how was your u/s today?
@pregnantbee: I am loving the sweater chronicles! *day 2 and the natives are clueless! . . . *
@dcw6411: I'm sure it wasn't easy for your DH to go to his commander. Big kudos to him!

@dcw6411: well the good news is the best news, really! Baby is hanging in there!! I'm so sorry about the bedrest and bleeding. We will do our best to entertain you until dh gets home. I'm so glad hes gonna come home for the weekend!

@pwnstar: it went great!
I'm finally home from my loooong appointment (doc was about an hour behind schedule). Baby is measuring eight weeks, EDD is Aug. 16. I though I had ovulated about a week late so that lines up perfectly. Also makes sense why I didn't see much at my first appointment, because I would have been 5w2d.
Heart rate was in the low 170s. Doc says all looks good!

@dcw6411: Thinking of you and praying for your sweet little one! I'm so glad you have some support through this and pray the rest does the trick and that your uterus settles down. I don't know if you are into herbs but Welcome Womb by Wishgarden is an excellent tonic for threatened miscarriage according to a midwife friend of mine and really aids to settle a contracting uterus. It may be worth looking into - it's supposed to be an excellent product.
@pregnantbee: I need hints for how to hide the bump! What are you doing/wearing to do so? I'm supposed to be somewhere today but thinking it will be fairly obvious around folks that see me all the time but haven't before the holidays and so not ready for questions.
I'm following along on this thread as best as I can but you ladies move so quickly sorry I can't participate as much as I'd like!!

So those of you struggling with nausea...is drinking water a problem!? Water is my number one trigger this go around. I have to sit down and focus so hard not to barf it right up the last few days and am not drinking nearly enough! What tips/tricks have you found to help with it?
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@dcw6411: I really hope the interventions you are trying work, and I'm glad you have family that can help out. I can't imagine how stressful and scary this is. I will keep my fingers crossed for you,

@coopsmama: water has been tough for me, too. When it's really bad I mix in a little Gatorade, just enough to give it that salty flavor and it helps. I also found that if I drink water really quickly and then start sipping ginger ale, I can get some in,

I'm 8w 5d today. Yesterday and today I had a lot less nausea. I'm trying not to panic, I think its a fairly common time for symptoms to let up. I had two tiny twinges of cramping yesterday, but it's also a common time for uterine expansion cramps. Just trying to stay calm. I'm still pretty tired, although I have a hard time being objective about tired I am. But I still fall asleep hard with my daughter during her nap, and sleep for like 90 minutes.
I have an appointment on Monday, and they will do another ultrasound then.

@Silva: Thank goodness DH is bringing home Gatorade with him after work so I will try that trick. It actually sounds hopeful to me - I wouldn't have thought to mix them.
I'm basically drinking a cup of tea (herbal, pregnancy safe) in the AM and waiting until noon to eat when the majority of the bad nausea has bad. Then trying to eat all afternoon until the nausea sets in again around 6pm.

@coopsmama: Hi! This is a much chattier bunch than when I did this the first time around....4 years ago! I've been careful not to change my style too much from what I'd normally wear, otherwise that would raise red flags. My stomach never lost the upper bulge after my first LO so I've taken to concealing it much the way I'm doing now.
I got some oversize flowy cardigans. For example, just bought this one from LOFT for $25, and I think it runs big:
I also got the non-plus size version of this one at Old Navy (can't find the regular one on their website, but maybe that's b/c it was on super sale when I went to the store last week. I only paid about $10!)
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=8&pid=153808002
And shirts like this -- loose print rayon tanks:
http://www.loft.com/geo-clean-tunic-shell/381648?skuId=19535852&defaultColor=6555&colorExplode=false&catid=catl000011 (I got this one when they had a maroon/white version)
Today I'm actually wearing a loose-fitting black with white polka dot maternity shirt that I had from the last time around. I loosely belted it kind of in the middle of the "blump." (Be careful so the belt doesn't ride up too high under the bust line.) With one of the slouchy cardigans and also a long scarf. Haha! It's not unheard of at my workplace to wear a scarf indoors, so I'm going with that.
But generally, loose blousy shirt in a print. Maybe belted mid-bloat/bump, loose cardigan. Yesterday I wore black maternity leggings with boots and today black maternity pants (boot cut). Yesterday I pinned the cardigan closed so you couldn't see the loose tank under at all.
Hope this helps!

@Silva: I forgot that we are due date twins! Nausea is so weird, how it comes and goes. I had some around six weeks and it got better at seven weeks and now awful again. The fluctuations are enough to make me go crazy and for panic to set again! I'm sure you will have another great ultrasound on Monday and all will be well.

@pregnantbee: It totally helps! Thanks for the detailed info. I have a lot of pieces similar to that so going to go upstairs now and throw something together using your suggestions. And I love the things you linked - so much! No wonder you're getting compliments at work. Super cute.
I still need to get out to the garage and pull out my maternity box. The biggest problem is that I loaned it to a friend in between my last pregnancy and this one so no idea what things are still in decent condition. I will likely hit up the stores in another few weeks if/when we have a good ultrasound and buy some more classic staples. I know I will need almost a full new summer wardrobe so will try to buy the bulk in May since I'll be pregnant most of summer. (I went two weeks late last time so I think that could possibly happen again which would put me at an arrival date of August 25th - yup! Pregnant all through summer.)

@coopsmama: Oh, good. Glad it helps. It helps that this is how I'd pretty much normally dress, so it's not too different. I also do a DH check before walking out the door. And thanks for the compliments It was fun to do a little shopping -- though hard to hold myself back from things that truly won't fit while pregnant! Should add that I don't think it matters that the cardigans aren't "maternity." I'd worry more about tops.
Last time around I started 20 lbs lighter, so none of my pants fit now. My work and regular pants were already starting to get tight, so I had to buy all new pants. I'm hoping that some of the shirts from last time still fit due to how I carry the extra weight, but I got more Ts in a size up anyway. Some probably look ratty from spit-up and overwear anyway. I had my son in June, so I'll definitely need more summer-appropriate clothes this time. I don't think I even wore shorts last time!

@coopsmama: Water has been really hard for me too. Today my midwife suggested a herbal tea (caffeine free) specifically for pregnancy. I had some earlier and it worked pretty well for me (i.e. didn't make me nauseous). She said although it can't replace water, it can count as part of my water intake. So I'm going to try at least two cups of that per day.

@CoffeeMom: @coopsmama: You're both reminding me that I'm definitely not drinking enough water. Gotta get on that! My bigger problem right now is with brushing my teeth. My gag reflex is out of control. I can't brush my tongue or back teeth without gagging. Seeing the dentist later this week, so will definitely be asking if there's a way I can curb that feeling for the sake of good oral hygiene!

@pregnantbee: Ha-Love it!
@MrsSCB: Well hello beautiful! So glad everything went well!
@coopsmama: Water is tough for me too. I have been adding a bit of lemon, and that seems to help some. But it's a struggle right now.

@MrsSCB: That's a great ultrasound picture of the baby and a great heart rate. Congrats!
@pregnantbee: You are the master of the Sweater Chronicles!
@coopsmama: I'm so sorry you are struggling with nausea! I hope it goes away soon. And thanks for mentioning something about tea - i didn't realize that some tea could be bad for pregnancy. Gees. I think I need to read a book - there is so much I feel I don't know!

@MrsSCB: beautiful!
@pregnantbee: cardigans were all I wore with my first pregnancy! I was so tempted to bust one out, but thought people at work might realize I only wear them when pregnant and sense something is up haha.
@coopsmama: I lent all my maternity work clothes to a friend last time, and am waiting to contact her until after my first ultrasound. I'm hoping she didn't give them away!
and yes, this group is so much more active than my first one!

@agold: Hahahahahahaha
@Pirouette: So funny. I was worried about the same thing when I've been busting out the scarf now. I wear a cardigan almost every day, so that's not unusual. I do wonder if people are thinking, "Huh. Her cardigans have gotten awfully big lately...."

This group has been moving fast! Nausea has been strong this time, although I have only thrown up once! I am hoping it continues. When I was pregnant the last two times I was miserable and lost at least 20 pounds from all the nausea and vommiting. I don't have that to lose this time. I know I am down 5-7 pounds already tho. Hoping to find a way to up my calories.

@agold: @CoffeeMom: Thank you, thank you thank you
@pwnstar: I am seriously proud of him and so thankful he is my hubby. They are a little crazy around there about stuff and truthfully dedication to your job is expected to come far above your family, so I know it took a lot for him!
@pregnantbee: Hmmm, when I am off this couch maybe you should be my personal shopper. lol. Cute stuff!!
@OldpuebloJenn: When my morning sickness was at its peak, it was always the worst in the evenings. Started to really ramp up around 430pm or so. I found that if I ate around 330 it would help a little. Is yours popping up around the same general time? Maybe try to eat right before?
@coopsmama: Im going to check this out! I'm willing to try anything to keep that baby in there. Thank you!
@Mrs. Champagne: This made me laugh. Creep away and thank you !
@MrsRcCar: I hope the HG stays away. I know from my first how rotten it can be. I never got it with my second, so it can happen!
Ok, I LOVE that this thread moves to fast! You all are keeping me entertained!

@dcw6411: me too! I don't think I could handle it again with my two boys and no family to help me near by. DH is so nervous that it just hasn't arrived yet. DH works and goes to school so he is pretty much unavailable to me all week. He has work Monday-Friday until 4. He then goes to school Monday- Thursday from 5pm to 11:30pm.

@dcw6411: You are too sweet! I'm so not the one to be asking for fashion advice, so this is hilarious. Thank you.
Also, I'm so so glad your DH can come home. That's great!

@dcw6411: thanks for the tip! I've been taking a nap everyday around 3, so I should probably eat when I wake up.

@MrsRcCar: I don't have any nausea, but I am down weight too - nearly 10 pounds. I'm wondering if its just because I'm eating healthier. I never thought I'd be one to lose weight during pregnancy but I can clearly stand to lose this weight and then some, so I'm actually not too worried.
@dcw6411: Ditto on the awesomeness of your husband. I know its can be tough with certain jobs. Based upon what you've said, I'm hoping he works with a group that understands true family emergencies. It seems like he does.
