@coopsmama: what are classic staples?! I don't even know!! I pretty much only have one new pair of mat jeans since I thought N was my last!
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@HLK208: Oh, I definitely mean a good pair of maternity jeans, probably a pair of black maternity jeans as well, new maternity leggings (mine are shot), some good new maternity layering tanks, and probably a few new long sleeves! Stuff that I can mix and match with my existing tops (i.e. my chambray shirts and some boyfriend fit button ups, etc.) and cardigans that will probably see me through until we hit springtime!

@agold: I'm also down ten pounds. I wouldn't say it's because of the nausea, but like you, I think it's just healthier eating habits.

@CoffeeMom: Oh, right. I should have remembered this one. Will pick some up and then hide it at work. LOL. Thanks!

The Sweater Chronicles, Day 3 - 10w
It's a rainy morning, so I thought I'd have a little fun and demonstrate the art of 1st tri camouflage for work. So here's a comparison photo of super camo, fairly camo, and no camo. It's all about which top and where the belt goes. I use the blouse to fill in between my ribs and top of the bump.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@pregnantbee: You're totally right! wow! It's definitely all about the belt placement. I can't believe the difference between picture number two and number three. I don't have any belts really...must invest in a few.

@pregnantbee: LOL, I love the visual explanation. I've got a similar outfit today - Long cardigan over a stretchy shirt and a scarf.
My clothes are starting to fit really weirdly. My uterus is moving up and pushing the top of my stomach out. So I have a huge muffin top. My pants fit but only under the bulge and they're kind of falling off, lol.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@coopsmama: Haha, right?? I got this one at Target maybe 2 years ago -- it's helpful to find one with tons of holes or the ability to adjust it to any length. That will help with a growing belly and then work well for when you actually want to accentuate the belt since you can then make it smaller again.

@ShootingStar: Haha, thanks! Awww, time for maternity pants. Might as well get as much wear as possible out of them and be comfortable at the same time!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: Damn, you are good at the camouflaging! I'm impressed. I'll definitely keep this in mind -- not showing yet (it's my first so might be a bit, I guess) but I'd like to hide at work for as long as possible. The US tech mentioned yesterday that my uterus is tilted back a little, so I wonder if it will take longer to show? But I'm also short so...who knows when something will pop out, lol.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: Thank you! I didn't show this much until maybe 5 months with #1?? This is insane. Muscle memory is crazy. Since it's your first, you may not even have to worry about this at all. You may even be out of the first tri before you show!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: It's crazy how different it can be! I've seen the same with some of my friends. First one takes forever to show, and second-plus it's like, "Hello!" right away, haha.

@pregnantbee: Awesome!!
Doing okay over here. Some nausea and trying to just assume everything is okay in there with the little bean. DEFINITELY starting to show at 7.5w which is awful!! I didn't show til like 22w with my first.
I have my first midwife appt tomorrow. Does anyone know how early they can hear hb with a doppler?
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@JoJoGirl: Thanks! Glad you're feeling ok. No idea re: doppler. I've only had internal ultrasounds so far. So excited for your first appointment!
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@ShootingStar: NO WAY! OMG that makes me so much more excited for my appointment, I really hope she can hear something. @pregnantbee: Thanks!!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: @MrsRcCar: Done. I edited the post above. Curious: why did your Drs decide to change your EDD?
On my u/s (2 so far), I keep being on track for 8/2. However, my OB insists on keeping my EDD as 7/30 based on LMP b/c the difference is under 5 days.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: I only knew my LMP, not when I ovulated. I'd been having super long cycles (like 36+ days) so I was pretty sure I ovulated later than normal. I think the LMP just wasn't a good predictor for me. Yesterday I measured eight weeks instead of nine, and I had suspected that I ovulated about a week behind, so they decided to go with the estimated ovulation date vs. LMP. Makes a lot of sense why I didn't see much at my first US, because I would have only been 5w2d!
pomelo / 5257 posts
Question: Have you all told immediate family yet? Or is anyone waiting till later? Personally I'd kind of like to wait until after our next appointment (at about 13 weeks). But my husband is super excited to tell people. So I'm wondering if maybe I should at least let him tell his parents/my parents and our sisters? I just think if something were to go wrong, I'm not sure I'd want everyone to know...but I also want to respect my husband's excitement and let him be happy. I don't know!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: Totally makes sense. I also think my body had been gearing up for a longer cycle, so I prob. ovulated later than day 14. I don't understand why my dr wants to keep me on track according to LMP with 2 diff. ultrasounds show 8/2.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@pregnantbee: I love your demonstration! I've been wearing coats inside to hide it lol
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: Nope! Not yet. Last time around, I told my sister at 10w and our parents at the end of 12w. This time, I'm a bit scared to tell early since we've had 2 losses. I think we may tell my sister after I get (hopefully good) results from the genetic testing, and then will prob. tell parents after (hopefully good) results from the NT scan at the end of the month. I have a much easier time telling people that are NOT family b/c they don't get as attached immediately. Our parents will just see OMG ANOTHER GRANDKID. Sister/BIL will see OMG another niece/nephew. It would be so much harder to un-tell. You know?
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: OK that makes me feel better...I was starting to feel like a weirdo for not telling my family as soon as I POAS, because it seems like most of my friends do. But I'm just very private. Plus this will be the first grandkid for my parents and my ILs, so not sure I trust them to not spill the beans to all our relatives!
grapefruit / 4712 posts
@pregnantbee: I haven't had a cycle since June 2013. So the super early ultrasound lady made a guess. I have since had a more focused ultrasound and got a more accurate date.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@pregnantbee: I completely understand. I have no problem telling a few close friends right away or our neighbors or whatever but I always find it so hard to tell family because I really don't want to get their hopes up and have them be hurt as well should it not go okay! At any rate, my parents are out of the country and we won't see them until I'm about 11 weeks so will probably tell them around then provided I have a good ultrasound around week 10. So they've been easy to keep it from. My sister and BIL...not so much. I keep waiting for them to guess!
@JoJoGirl: You can't hear with a Doppler until around 10 weeks usually, though sometimes it's still tough to find until 12ish weeks. I'm not aware of any handheld dopplers than can detect at 6 weeks. That's why they do the internal ultrasounds.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: So exciting! My parents actually thanked us last time for waiting until the 2nd tri to tell. My mom gets worried about stuff like that, so I really thought it was the best way to go. Not to say it didn't kill us not to share sooner. I was dying to tell them (was also more naive last time)! I'm dying to tell them this time. They're all at a large distance, so it's easy to keep it from them. My son was also the first grandkid on both sides, so they were all super excited.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@HLK208: YES! Thank goodness it's the season of coats and bulky clothes. They help to cover a multitude of early belly bump issues.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@coopsmama: THIS. Winter makes it so much easier to hide. Different story in warm weather!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@JoJoGirl: I wonder if they would do a transvaginal u/s instead of just trying the doppler? That's what my OB did for dating and to check on it. Does it work differently with a MW?
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@JoJoGirl: you might not hear anything with the Doppler- they don't use them until 12 weeks at the practice I go to. My best friend is a midwife, and I asked her the other day to see if she'd check, but she said the earliest she's ever heard one was like 9w 4d.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: loving the sweater chronicles! and my parents are similar to yours, i think. with my first i told them the day before my first appt (6 weeks) and they told me about 500 times they wished i had waited and next time tell them after the 1st tri. This time my first appt isn't until around 10 weeks, so i'll probably tell them around then, but may wait a few more weeks still.
Of course, with men it's different. I haven't told a soul other than DH. but he told someone during a JOB INTERVIEW the other day (the ultimate no no for women haha). and of course just got some high fives, because he's a guy. I just had a client ask why i'm not pregnant with #2 yet
I'm so anxious to tell my LO! but will definitely wait until after the first tri to tell her.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: Thanks! Oh, MEN. My husband actually has told fewer people than I have! Though most of the people I've told are friends I've made online and are at a distance. Haven't really told anyone local yet.
I can't wait to tell my LO. I'm definitely waiting until the 2nd tri for that b/c there's no way he'll stay quiet. LOL.

@pregnantbee: That is seriously GEEEENIUS! Seriously.Genius.
@MrsSCB: We're waiting to tell family until after the results of the CVS are in. I have told my good mom friends and one good work friend, and DH told one of this OOT friends. But that's it. We've even considered not telling for a looooong time, and just showing up for a visit obviously pregnant but pretending like everything's normal!
