@agold: What @Pirouette: said. At your 6w post-partum appointment, the dr will also assess you for PPD and will make sure you know about resources available to you. They will also let you know if you're cleared for exercise/sex, etc.

@MrsSCB: Glad things turned out okay for you yesterday. Especially since you are busy now through the weekend!

@T.H.O.U.: @pregnantbee: @Pirouette: Thank you for letting me know about the 6 week check up. So I suppose that come January 2017, I won't be having to go to any doctors appointments for myself. That makes me feel better in case I end up having to rely temporarily on an insurance I am not pleased with.

@agold: You will def. need to go to many dr visits for baby, though. One close to birth, a week after birth, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months. And more frequently if she has any issues with gaining weight or is jaundiced, etc.

@agold: I had a c-section, so I had a 2 week appointment as well as the 6 week one (which got delayed to ~8 weeks due to snow anyways. They basically checked my stitches and asked if I was still on percoset. I wasn't, so they told me I was allowed to drive again.

@pregnantbee: Our ped visits are a tiny bit different. We'll see a hospitalist before we go home (our dr. no longer goes to the hospital), and then we'll have an appointment with her 3-5 days afterwards. Then of course the regular 1m, 2m, etc.

I wanted to thank all of you for responding to my question about leaving our 2.5 yr old in daycare. I think all of you were in the leave her in camp, which is encouraging.

I think I am going to need a lot of encouraging these next 12 weeks, there was a non August moms post about when were you over being pregnant, and its hitting hard, and we have so far to go :(.

  6. MrsBeluga

    apricot / 442 posts

@agold: I had a 4 week and an 8 week check up, mostly because I insisted on having my stitches checked earlier than the standard 6 week check - I had a third degree tear and wanted to make sure things were healing and coming back together (which is why I insisted on and scheduled the two appts). After the 8 week check up I was done, and didnt have to go back for a year.

@coopsmama: I will cry with you! I am so done, so tired, so exhausted, I am over work and all I want to do is be home on the couch or at the pool hanging out with my toddler. :(. Once I hit 36 weeks I am going to do everything I can to get this kid out. The last kid was super late at 42 + 3 and I am not going to last that long again, mentally especially.

@agold: because I won't give birth at a hospital, I have a 1 day & 3 day check ups, but luckily the midwives come to me! After that, I'll go in at 6 weeks.

  9. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: thanks. Baby girl will be going right on husbands insurance which is a good one. So no worries for her.

@MrsBeluga: I can't opine on this situation because I don't have a lo in day care. But I would have a hard time paying for day care when I was at home and capable of watching my lo for free. But if money wasn't an issue, then I suppose i would keep my older child in day care for all the reasons everyone already gave.

@MrsBeluga: This is a late response, but we are leaving our toddler in daycare during my maternity leave (I am taking 12 weeks, only six of which are paid). I want to keep LO's life/routine as normal as possible, while maximizing my time to bond with the baby and to recover.

  11. agold

@MrsBeluga: also, i, too, am over work and only want to be on the couch, in the pool or at the beach.

@ShootingStar: Good points. Forgot it may be different with a c-section and from practice to practice.

@MrsBeluga: You're welcome. I saw that post, too......And I know that baby needs to bake over here for at least another 9-10w or so.....but I'm also kinda over it. It's been so much harder this time with being much bigger much sooner and feeling all of the end-of-pregnancy things much earlier. Ack. One day at a time??

ETA: And much less time for me to rest due to still FT WOHM status and caring for almost 4-yo when not at work!

@pregnantbee: @MrsBeluga: Pregnancy is so. long.

One of my best friends just had her baby yesterday, and I"m totally jealous. Doesn't help that the pregnancy we lost was due this week. Honestly though-it would be a tough time for us to have a baby. So I'm trying to be positive about the timing of it all.
Pregnancy dragged for me last time. The best way I can deal with it is with lots and lots of projects. Like extended nesting or something

Yes. One day at a time. I'm trying to focus on other projects. Next week we are pointing our kitchen cabinets. Then we go see my brother for Memorial Day. We are going to see friends in GA in June and I want to plan a few more activities (house projects).

@ShootingStar: now you have me questioning...did i have a 2 week appt? I really don't think so, but I guess it's possible. I don't remember being away from LO at all the first 6 weeks aside from when i had an emergency trip to the ENT for nonstop nosebleeds around a week postpartum!

also, is that the only rule about driving? no driving while on meds? I didn't have a car for my first, so i didn't have to worry about it, but this time I will. I never even took the meds other than the ones they gave me through the IV.

@MrsBeluga: I know what you mean, and I'm behind everyone so i have longer to go! I still feel good physically, but i am so damn cranky this pregnancy! so over it!

@Pirouette: IDK if that's the only rule. I know they told me in the hospital not to drive, but I thought some of that had to do with mobility (being able to turn and look at traffic or whatever). I think the appointment was only with a nurse, she checked my incision and asked about the meds and said I was good to drive. Maybe being off pain meds also implied I was not in pain and therefore mobile enough?

Any first time moms having trouble registering for your baby shower? Or picking out things you need to buy for yourself? Its so tough to know what to get!

@pregnantbee: THIS! I am gone 9-6 M-F and then finding myself drained weekday evenings.

I also just got a call from my OB and I am anemic, which helps to explain why simple chores like folding laundry and grocery shopping this past month have pretty much winded and exhausted me. I am hoping the iron supplements have me feeling more energetic soon, any recommendations or advice here?

@T.H.O.U.: I want to talk all about your kitchen cabinet painting We have oak cabinets all over our house, and while our cabinets are in good condition, I daydream about painting them white or gray or even navy so many times a week.... HGTV doesnt help!

  24. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@MrsBeluga: @pregnantbee: My days are also super draining. Up before 5, full day of work, and then dinner/bath/bed solo most nights. (I am solo all next week! DH is traveling). And stuff still has to get done. Groceries. Laundry. Work. *augh* I squeeze in laundry when I get up (I workout during the wash and switch the load to the dryer before I hit the shower), and take LO to the grocery store after work/pickup when I have to . . . it just really takes a toll. But it's not like there is any more time to be found! By 8:30/9, I am d-o-n-e. . But there are some nights--like tonight--when I still have more work to do and I just want to lay down and pass out.

@agold: there are so many buying guides that are helpful. I liked the set up on Amazon- it includes every category, and then populates suggestions based on reviews etc. But ultimately, some stuff you won't know if you need till the baby arrives, or won't know if you like something until you have to use it. Thinking in relationship to your lifestyle helps a lot too; for example our dining room is very open, and we eat dinner there every night. I couldn't imagine looking at a plastic high chair every day clashing with our dining table, so we registered for a higher end high chair and even though our DD doesn't use it anymore (just shy of 4yo), we didn't bother to move it, because it goes with our house. To some that's probably seen as a frivolous item. And for stroller we only have a BOB, but if we lived in a more pedestrian city and did a lot of walking to shops, it wouldn't be practical due to its size. We didn't use one of those strollers that the car seat pops into because I was set on wearing her, and luckily she obliged. But some babies don't love being worn. So save those gift cards for after the baby is born!!

@pregnantbee: where is the dress from? Cute! What is the top like? At this point I'm trying to only buy maternity stuff that I will be comfortable wearing postpartum and nursing in.

  27. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@pwnstar: Oh my. I'm tired just reading that. My husband usually doesn't travel for work, so he makes himself available to help. I'm already overwhelmed but I'd be a complete mess without him.

  28. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@Silva: Thank you. Sadly it's not available now, but it was from Old Navy in 2012! I actually can't believe it fits this time since I started bigger. Also, I'm so short that maxi dresses are usually way too long.

ETA, the top is just a v-neck, and I wear a tank under it. It's not a super stretchy top so I don't think this particular one would be great for bf.

  29. OldpuebloJenn

    kiwi / 595 posts

@pregnantbee: I knew it was Old Navy! I have one similar, from the same year! I'm so happy mine still fits too- it's a work horse of a dress!

  30. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: I wish I had it in more colors or that they would make a similar style again. I didn't even wear it that much the first time.

  31. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: Thank you for your response. Space in my house is tight and storage is at a minimum. So I don't want any items, actually. And although my dining room is tiny and tight, unlike your big open one, I still want a higher end high chair because I really can't imagine putting a big plastic monstrosity in there. It will be seen from every angle of the house. Which high chair did you end up getting? I was thinking of getting the stokke steps or trip trapp. I feel ridiculous registering for it but will likely just put it on my registry and not care what people think because I suppose I will buy it for myself with registry completion discount after my shower.

  32. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@agold: we really like our keekaroo. It can adjust and be a stool later on. My 3 year old still sits in it comfortably.

  33. OldpuebloJenn

    kiwi / 595 posts

@agold: I got the oxo tot sprout chair, in walnut. It has some plastic (which is easy to clean), but we like how it transitioned into a chair without the tray. It has a bit bigger footprint than the trip trapp chair, so that might be a better fit for your home. Ours looks brand new after taking a beating by my DD, so I'm sure we'll be able to sell it too!
I was the same way- I didn't want any stuff- but it'll creep in, whether you want it or not- and you might as well pick out which stuff will be coming in! It's daunting for sure.

@pregnantbee: looking good! Wow almost 29 weeks?! I'm so behind

@ShootingStar: that makes sense. I think my husband will be home for at least 3 weeks so I assume I'll be ok to drive when I absolutely have to. I feel like recovery from a c section in a house will be very different from last time. Were you able to do stairs ok the first few weeks?

@agold: I loved lucies list and baby bargains for list ideas to put together my registry. Those were pretty much all I used. And of course, any questions, just ask we had a wooden high chair that my husband used when he was little so I'm no help on that one.

  35. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@Pirouette: You're so sweet. Thank you. I partially can't believe I'm already almost 29w and partially in disbelief that there's still so much time left! Time is so weird sometimes.

@agold: We got the Tripp Trapp and also just the plastic Fisher Price Booster (healthy deluxe or something like that). Honestly? Liked the cheap plastic one better when he was younger. Now my almost 4 yo uses the Tripp Trapp as his chair. I like that he can climb up himself and that he is high enough to reach the table without sitting on his knees. For us, the problem with trying it you get was that it didn't come with a tray and he would use the table edge to push himself backwards away from the table! The plastic one was so easy to clean, and we could also take it with us to restaurants in the beginning if we didn't trust the cleanliness of the borrowed one.

@agold: We had a hand me down high chair for H when we had more space but bought a booster seat that straps on to a normal chair. If I was buying a high chair this time it would be a Tripp Trapp.

I am starting to nest! I have a major need to start organising. I tided upstairs up this morning, now to sort where some furniture is going, get some baskets and start setting things up. We're trying to figure out if the change table would be better upstairs or downstairs.

  37. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@Silva: @OldpuebloJenn: I am going to look at both of those high chairs. I think that tonight my registry will be complete! Phew. In the nick of time because my shower invitations were put in the mail yesterday.

@OldpuebloJenn: Good point about being able to sell the high chair in the future. Things with decent name brands are always selling on my local craigslist for decently high prices. And as for some plastic on the high chairs.. my husband does love the 4moms high chair with the magnetic top. Totally plastic. I'd get it if we had the space for it because you are right that the plastic does clean up nicely. Its not all plastic that I don't like. Just some.

@Pirouette: Oh my gosh... i would love an old family wooden high chair!! Adorable!! And thank you for telling me about the the lucie's list. I looked it earlier today actually!

@pregnantbee: interesting about the plastic booster. at what age did your LO start using that? same as as a normal high chair?

@AprilFool: I'm majorly nesting too!!! It feels crazy!

  38. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: It goes on a dining room chair. The plastic is probably not your thing, but it worked great for us. Thanks to a thread on here, I recently put the whole thing in the dishwasher, and it looks like new. He used it starting around 7 months? We bought it after we got the fancy high chair when we realized that the high chair wasn't ideal for is when he was a baby.

@AprilFool: Crazy nesting over here! My husband has built the dresser, a cubed storage unit, and just took the crib out of storage. I've been buying a lot of stuff for the baby's room.....and also decided that we "needed" and new duvet cover, curtains, and shower curtain for our own room. I can blame the pregnancy hormones, right??
