@OldpuebloJenn: We also have the OXO Tot Sprout. I really do love it - totally worth the money imo. It still looks great (and looks more like furniture than baby gear) and my 3.5 still loves it and sits in it.

27w3d and I'm measuring (fundal) at 31w so I will be getting another US at 30w along with bloodwork and Rhogam.
HB is 140bpm and my blood pressure is creeping up so they will be keeping an eye on it over the next few weeks. We have our hospital tour on Saturday!
I dont have anything fun to add lol, it's been a pretty event-less few weeks pregnancy wise which I guess is a good thing!

Hey everyone! Just dropping in for a quick update. 26w6d today and waiting to begin my 2 hour glucose test. I had a serious fear of needles when pregnant with DS but I hope I've toughened up since then because I'm here alone and don't want to punk out or faint.. As I have previously. How did it go for all of you who have done it? I'm just thinking of cheeseburger and fries right now.. For breakfast.. Because I'm so hungry from fasting!
We took a tour of a birth centre last week and are 80% sure that we want to go that route. But that figure fluctuates based on the stories I hear! Anyone else planning/hoping for a natural birth centre or possible water birth? Or home birth?

@agold: we have the Stoke Trip Trap and really like it. It's harder to use until they have really good head control but now it's amazing. My five year old still sits in hers.

@MrsBeluga: I'm also low on iron. Be careful because iron supplements can be constipation. My OB can do a finger prick in office so they will monitor it there at every appointment.

@Pirouette: Yeah stairs were surprisingly not a problem. I was really hesitant to go home because we lived in a four floor townhouse with our bedroom at the top. But it was totally fine. I remember getting to the entry way stairs the first time and thinking it was going to take forever and I was able to up without much problem.

@pwnstar: totally more like furniture than baby gear- which is always a plus!
@Glitter: I'm planning a birth center birth! I had a natural hospital birth the first time, but am hoping for the birth center this time. My birth center only requires a 4-12 hour stay after the birth, compared to 24-48 hours at a hospital. I had such a positive birth experience last time, but were required to stay in hospital for 36 hours due to stupid red-tape, im looking forward to a short stay! I plan to labor in water, as I did with my first, but will push out of the tub. Good luck with your glucose test today- and look away when they prick, I always do!

@OldpuebloJenn: so similar to my experience! I also had a natural hospital birth with DS. Well.. Probably not natural since I was induced, but natural meaning vaginal delivery with no pain meds. I had a great experience because my doc is amazing and he's also a friend and stayed during my labor. But.. The hospital environment wasn't the most friendly to me and I did not get enough support breastfeeding. This could be our last pregnancy and I really want a better experience all round.
I have done 3 draws so far and survived! The nurse is a darling. One more to go then I can EAT!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Glitter: Hope you get to eat soon!
My second hospital stay went much smoother! I delivered at 7 am Saturday morning and was home for bedtime with my daughter by Sunday night! Most of that was waiting for baby to be checked out.

Here's a random topic: skin to skin. I fully believe in its importance, and tried to do it often with my daughter...but I"m kind of uncomfortable naked. Not in a modesty sense (that part doesn't bother me at all, I"m not uncomfortable being seen naked by others, etc.)- its a sensory thing. I like having a tank top on that fits a little snuggly, especially at bed.
I'm trying to brainstorm ways to commit to more skin-to-skin this time. Thinking about getting a nice robe that I could wrap over both of us? Other ideas? Or am I the only weirdo never-nude
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Silva: Are you worried about it just immediately after birth or just on day to day times?
I wore a lot of little cami/tanks and I felt like baby always got plenty of skin to skin.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Like as an ongoing practice in the first few weeks. With my daughter I tried to hold her naked against my torso while nursing about once a day....but I was kind of uncomfortable and had to make myself do it. I'm probably over thinking it. But it would be nice to get a new robe
coconut / 8472 posts
@T.H.O.U.: I felt the same way about camis and tanks. I think other than in the hospital I didn't really try to be totally topless.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@ShootingStar: I guess I always thought of skin to skin as torso to torso contact. Maybe I'm wrong!
coconut / 8472 posts
@Silva: I would hold him on top of my chest, kind of close to my shoulder, and especially if my nursing bra was unhooked there was lots of real estate. But maybe that's just me .

@Silva: I just found this- it's like a cami, wrap combo: http://www.milkandbaby.com/collections/kangaroo-care/products/halter-strap-kangaroo-tube-lagoon-blue?variant=764908311

Done! And yes I just gobbled down a pepperoni pizza!
@silva: I would tuck DS inside of my stretchy tank for skin to skin, especially in the evenings into nights when colic was at its worst. I'm not one to walk around topless either.
coconut / 8472 posts
@Silva: I might, yeah. I definitely don't have small boobs, lol. Here's a pic of us when DS was 2 days old. I'm still wearing my nursing bra, and I covered up with a burp cloth, but underneath his whole torso is pretty much skin to skin with me. I would also hold him more centered on my chest too, and less on my shoulder.
But I'd say do what's comfortable for you :).
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@Silva: I think if you're nursing they are already getting that contact so I personally didn't worry about setting aside other time. In the hospital I did hold both babies up to my naked chest the first several hours but there was a blanket covering us, too, which made me feel better about the modesty of it. I'm not one to love to show a lot of skin myself!

I'll comment on posts later but just had to check in to say either baby girl is standing on my bladder or I have a UTI. Wow, uncomfortable.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Silva: First, you Level Up for using the term "never-nude." Second, I lost all sense of modesty after birth. But I will say that I bought an inexpensive lightweight robe from Target, and it was great for the hospital. And like others suggested, you can tuck baby in there and still feel covered yourself. Since I breastfed, I didn't go above and beyond to do extra skin to skin. Thought the contact from breastfeeding was enough.

@pregnantbee: Isn't he SO tiny?! I can't believe he was ever that small. And baby girl does that to me a lot. I feel a ton of pressure on my urethra sometimes due to the way she's positioned. Not fun.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@ShootingStar: Do you think it could just be that? Then when I try to go, there's not much there. I can't believe our first babies were ever that tiny. From what I hear, our older kids will suddenly look giant when baby is here.
coconut / 8472 posts
@pregnantbee: Well it depends - do you feel uncomfortable with lots of pressure? Or do you feel a burning need to go every 2 minutes? And does it come and go, or is it persistent? I can tell mine's just the baby because 1)It was happening the day of my last OB appointment and no UTI, and 2)It's intermittent and no burning.
And yeah, I've heard that about them looking like giants too :(. He already seems SO big to me.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@ShootingStar: Haven't felt this until this morning. Fairly consistently there. No burning. I wonder if I can make her shift a little.... Thanks, Dr. ShootingStar

@pregnantbee: That booster is cute and I"m sure we will get one eventually.
@AprilFool: Is that a booster that you can attach to a kitchen chair? Is it similar to those bumbo seats that have a tray?
@OldpuebloJenn: So now I'm really interested in the oxo tot. My husband really doesn't have many opinions on any baby items, but he had a sort of visceral reaction to both of the stokke high chairs I showed him. He hated them. He loves the 4moms with the magnetic tray and ultimately told me to get what I want. I like that the 4moms is actually sold in the store by my house, as opposed to online only. But its so far opposite from what I wanted to get. I'm in a quandary! First world problems!
ETA: Nevermind! Just finalized decision on the oxo tot!

@Glitter: I am having a second birth centre birth and aiming for a water birth. I had to get out of the tub to deliver DD since she wouldn't descend. I loved our first birth, DD was born at 7am and we went home at 4. It could of been sooner but I needed a lot of stitches.
@agold: Yep attaches to a kitchen chair. We liked it because it could be used like a bumbo or just a normal booster.

@Silva: just another lurker from the September thread. Hi! Would something like this work? I was considering it for this baby.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: Me, too! Thanks for your help!
I hope that everyone has a great weekend!! I'm planning to really work in baby's room to get it all cleaned out and ready to start putting clothes away.
What is everyone else doing?

@AprilFool: were you able to birth naturally faster out of the water? Or did you need assistance like with forceps or something?

@agold: Same thing! Put a few baskets from PBK this morning and now want to get on with it.
@Glitter: She was born 2 pushes after getting out and I had an episiotomy. I had a really short cord and needed some help.

@agold: Just putting all the clothes in their designated places! Hanging the sleepers/tops and folding up the onesies and pants! Still need to move in the dresser to fill up and wash the rocker cushion covers!

@agold: going to my cousin's college graduation today then driving down to the beach for a week. I'm happy to spend time with my family but I'm a baby and miss my husband! It'll be nice not to do work this week. Or much work, anyway, I'll still be doing a little.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AprilFool: I need to do a little more cleaning out before i can put stuff away. And I still would love to get some sort of boxed shelfs to put cute cubes in for the floor of two sides of little girl's closet.
@mrschickpea: Thanks for telling me what you are specifically doing with the clothes! I have been trying to figure that out.
@MrsSCB: Sounds like such a great weekend! I'm with you, though, in that I always miss my husband.

@agold: I'm working all day today....then tomorrow we're taking a 3-hr techniques for active birth class so we can remember positions and tips for breathing.

My husband has been out of town for 8 days and my DD and I are getting on each other's last nerve, so I booked us a hotel room and we checked in at noon for swimming, snacking and napping. We've had a lot more laughing!
