@Pirouette: they don't really grasp it but my oldest (3.5 years) is excited for a baby.
Thank you all ladies for the congrats, it means so much to me.

@MrsRcCar: Congratulations!! 3 boys sounds really quite amazing.
Hey girls - has anyone woken up with jaw pain on one side?
grapefruit / 4712 posts
@agold: I did later in pregnancy with my other two boys. Apparently I grind my teeth or clinch my jaw in my sleep.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@MrsRcCar: Okay, I do that, too, actually. Embarrassingly, I will admit that I wear a mouth guard type of thing when I sleep. But I woke up today with specific jaw pain on my right side that I haven't noticed before. So I was just wondering if it was pregnancy related. Too bad you had it, too, with your pregnancies. Do you think your pain was pregnancy-related?
grapefruit / 4712 posts
@agold: I apparently grind or clench when I am under stress or pregnant. 🙄 Hoping maybe not this time but only time will tell.

Had another appt today. Haven't heard back on GD results or iron levels. Also got my rhogam shot. And the paperwork for the hospital! Which I will have to fill out most of again, because our insurance plan is changing July 1st.
The doc said I can go on our trip to Maine at 35 weeks, just need to get copies of med records in case.
Next appt is at 32 weeks, and then they are every other week.
Moving along!

@OldpuebloJenn: I'm a little nervous about the car ride I kind of want to get our mini van before we go so that I can stretch out more, but I just don't think we will have time until after.
It's a 5 hour drive- the way there will be broken up by a stop to visit family about half way.

@Silva: so you're gonna fill in the paperwork and then do it again July 1? My insurance is changing June 1 and then again July 1, so I thought I'd submit the registration June 1st and then resubmit July 1, just to be able to schedule my c section. But I wasn't sure if that was silly, or a waste of time.

Hi! So I had my 30 week appointment today. My first one since I failed my 3 hour GD test. I received my results last Monday and I have been testing my blood sugar 4 times a day (morning fast and 2 hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner). I made some diet changes, tracking carbs and cut out most sweets and my numbers have been really good. My ob said whatever changes I've done are working and she's really happy even though she's still super surprised I failed.
She also said I was measuring perfect and so was my blood pressure. I'll see her again at 32 weeks. Then at 34 and I'll have a growth ultrasound that week too.

@Silva: Hooray for getting to travel and for being at the point where you can fill out hospital paperwork. I admit that I had to look up what a Rhogam shot is. Clearly I don't need one. I was, however, offered a T-Dap shot at my checkup on Fri. I declined at the time and just assume I will get it at the hospital after giving birth last time. Is anyone getting the shot now?

@Aandmklover: Hi! Great update! Glad to hear that you're doing so well
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@pregnantbee: I'm getting the shot at 32 weeks. I believe if you get it during pregnancy it helps the baby develop immunity against pertussis even before its old enough for the vaccine itself.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@Pirouette: I guess so? I'm not really sure. If I'm on top of it I guess I will call after our insurance changes and just update the hospital then?
Our paperwork has some stuff that won't change, like how you plan to feed the baby, dietary needs, circumcision choice, pediatrician, etc., and none of that will be changing.

@Aandmklover: that's great! I'm glad you've been able to manage it so well!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@Silva: that makes sense. I like the idea of being registered, I just won't pay any bills they send me before 7/1 and will ask them to resubmit them after my 2nd new insurance takes effect. I remember there being a decent amount of paperwork they sent me to complete last time, but this is just a 1 page form, so i'm thinking this is just the preliminary paperwork anyway.
@Aandmklover: great news!

@Aandmklover: Great update!
@pregnantbee: I had my TDAP at 28 weeks. If you have it during pregnancy the baby gets some immunity instead of just you getting some if you have it after.

I received my whooping cough shot at my 28 week appointment. My arm was sore for a few days but I'm happy knowing the baby will get some of the immunity.

@pregnantbee: new rec is to get shot while pregnant so that's what I'll do
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Didn't realize it changed. Will definitely consider it and ask at my next appointment in 2w.
clementine / 928 posts
@pregnantbee: I got the TDap at my last 28 week appt! I'll get Rhogam at my next one along with some blood re-draws that are required. I have a growth scan at that time too since my fundal measurement was showing 5w ahead I don't think its known to be that accurate though so I'm just happy to get to see the baby again!
We had our first baby shower today at DH's work and it was lovely! They threw it for us and 3 other people who are getting married this summer so it was a neat combined shower We were so grateful and everyone was so generous! We got some cute blankets and a couple things off the registry. I came in and immediately went for the strawberry cake and desserts instead of the real food lol.

Passed my GD test....I had a 66! I guess my pancreas works pretty well. My iron was slightly low (11.1, which is exactly what it was last time). More steak!
nectarine / 2461 posts
@Silva: awesome that you passed!! and the trip to Maine sounds so fun. 5 hours isn't so bad when you can stop and get out a couple of times, even in your smaller car. I just flew back and forth from NYC to California and I just got up and walked back and forth down the aisle like 4x each flight--not ideal, but hopefully no blood clots.
@Pirouette: @Silva: ahhh this sounds like such a PITA with the insurance. godspeed, guys.
@Aandmklover: you sound like you're doing great good for you for managing so well. my GD test is Thursday, I'm a little nervous because one of my parents has pre-diabetes, but not much to do about it at this point. did you have it with your other pregnancies?
Thank you all for reminding me about the whooping cough vax, I have to get my husband to get his, too. While I was in California I met a real-life anti-vaxxer, it was a cultural experience. She approached me while I was sitting by the pool reading Your Baby And Child. Everyone in my life is a pretty western-medicine rah-rah type, as am I.

@Aandmklover: That's so great that you have been doing so well with managing your blood sugar. 30 weeks . . . !!!
@Silva: @T.H.O.U.: @pregnantbee: @mrschickpea: That's good to know! I have my 28 week appointment on Friday, so I will definitely ask about getting the TDap then.
@Silva: Congrats on passing! I was low on Vit D, so now I take a daily vitamin d supplement in addition to my prenatals. Yay for more pills . . . even though I shouldn't complain, because it's so tiny!
@LCTBQE: My mom is pre-diabetic, and I passed (with flying colors . . . the complete opposite of what I expected).
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mrschickpea: Oh! My dr on Fri also said I was measuring 5 weeks ahead via fundal measurement. I'm kinda nervous about that. Are you? I get an earlier ultrasound next week to take a better look -- though I also know the u/s can be off by a pound or more in either direction. I just don't want to be induced only to find that the baby is a perfect-for-me size. You know?
And hooray for the first shower. So cute they combined it I'd go for the cake, too!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@mrschickpea: how sweet that they threw you guys a shower!
@LCTBQE: hi! how are you doing? yes, it is a complete PITA, and i am not looking forward to dealing with it at all. My mom is and my grandfather was diabetic, and my mom had GD before she was diabetic, so i was very worried about GD with my first, but i passed. I haven't had it yet this time, so we'll see. ahhh the anti-vaxxers! just imagining that situation makes me seethe!
@pregnantbee: yes, the u/s can be off, but I do think when you have monitoring for size (too big or too small), the measurements are so much more detailed that they tend to be more accurate. There are still user error mistakes of course, and the accuracy depends on the position of the baby, but it's not like the measurements at a routine u/s. FWIW, they were accurate to the ounce with my girl after weeks of monitoring her measurements.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: My completely uneducated thoughts re: baby size are that the fundal measurement could very well be inaccurate. It just seems like so much of that measurement depends on the baby's position. Whether they are vertical or transverse etc. could definitely affect the fundal height. Hopefully the US puts your mind at ease!
Going to my 28 week appointment in an hour. I can't believe after this one I'll be back again in just two weeks, time is flying!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: I totally agree with your thoughts here. Even the dr said that her position and fluid could affect the measurement. I also have an anterior placenta this time, so I wonder if that has something to do with it, too.
@Pirouette: Thanks for the reassurance
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Pirouette: Agree. I think it depends on the type of measurement. Fundal measurement can be off (baby position, fluid levels, poor measuring). A regular ultrasound can be off if too but are a bit more accurate. But if you are going for a detailed measurement ultrasound typically they will do 3 measurements each 3 times. They look at head circumference, belly circumference and femur length. They still just average those out to give you an estimated weight/size.
When my fundal height was measuring ahead, I had growth ultrasounds and the measurements were very accurate.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@T.H.O.U.: exactly. Plus if any one number seemed inconsistent, they went back and remeasured that one number a few times (while i held my breath of course!) to make sure one number didn't throw off the whole. of course, I was praying they'd be off by a pound and she was actually a 6.5 lb baby, but no such luck

btw, how is everyone doing with rings? anyone take them off yet? we have summer heat coming for the first time this week, and I'm thinking I'll get a cheap ring in a bigger size to sub out so I can leave my engagement ring at home when it's really hot and humid. I just don't want to risk it being uncomfortable! I didn't have this problem with a december baby.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Pirouette: I still have my set on. I think probably this weekend I will take my wedding band off and just wear my larger engagement ring for a wile.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: Hahahahaha re rings. I haven't been wearing mine since maybe the first trimester I am wearing a different ring my husband hit me before we got married. It's a tiny bit bigger. My rings were edging on tight when it's warm anyway bc I weighed 20 lbs more than when we bought the rings. Hoping to lose this weight and more to fit into them more comfortably again.
ETA: I wore them until maybe 34w last time.
