@mrschickpea: That's so nice your husband's workplace threw you a shower!!
@Pirouette: @Silva: So I am changing my medical insurance, too. New one will be effective July 1. Let me know if you run into any problems with hospital registration or whatever. I hope we don't have any problems!
@LCTBQE: I hope you had a great time on your trip!
@Pirouette: I haven't had a problem with my hands swelling yet. Feet, for sure. I'm sure that the hands will be swelling soon. I'm heading to the desert this weekend so that will be a true test as the heat will be undeniable. Good idea, though, on getting a nice little temporary ring.

@Pirouette: They're still on, but they get tight when I eat too much salt . . . which is true even when I'm not knocked up, but it seems like I don't tolerate salt nearly as well now. (no surprise there)

@T.H.O.U.: I was thinking the opposite, as my wedding band is a 1/4 size larger than my e-ring! so i just ordered a fake e-ring, and figure I'll wear it on my other hand and hopefully keep wearing my actual wedding band.
@pregnantbee: aww...that stinks. i feel naked whenever I'm not wearing my rings. I hope you can wear them postpartum! can they be resized if necessary? or are they eternity bands?
@agold: haha i must have been drunk last night when i posted (i mean i wish i was drunk, just pregnancy brain though ) because my insurance is changing 6/1 and 8/1, not 7/1. so i'm definitely not going to wait until 8/1 to register with the hospital. what a pain insurance is! which plan did you end up with?
@pwnstar: so far, mine have felt a little snug when i go for a walk at lunch and i just don't want to take them off at work every day, because i get so nervous. of course, when it gets really hot, i'll probably also stop walking outside at lunch. Problem solved!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Pirouette: Wow how did you end up with rings 2 different sizes? Mine are the same size but wearing them stacked makes them a bit tighter than wearing just one.
So suggestion to others, if your rings together are too tight, you may be able to get away with just wearing the band or just wearing the e-ring without getting a fake.

@T.H.O.U.: When does third trimester start?
@Pirouette: Yes, insurance is such a pain! I had trouble figuring it all out with some push back I got from my own work. I'm switching just medical to my husband's insurance. It will be cheaper once we add the baby on. I am going with Anthem HMO. There was a "value" option that had lower premiums I almost went with. But I spent quite a bit of time figuring out that with the hospital stay for birth and the multiple OB maternity visits that I still have, it made sense to go with the plan that had a little bit higher premium. I am almost 100% sure that the hospital birth will cost me $0. And OB visits will cost me $10. Not sure when I have to register. I'm not too pleased with my OB but I know everything will work itself out in the end.

@T.H.O.U.: I have a second band that I got later after my wedding that is somehow a tad bigger than the engagement and other band, so that's what I would probably do. Although its so tiny looking all on its own!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Woo hoo! So I'm a little bit in it. So crazy to think! I woke up this morning and said "babe, the baby will be here in 2 months." We both panicked and then realized I'm dumb and its actually 3 months. Phew.

@agold:
Yea the other big milestone I look forward to is 35 weeks which means you've got about 35 days away from your due date. And then 39 weeks is full term!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Oh yes, that is a good one to look forward to! I'm just so happy to know that my baby could survive if born today. Its so crazy to feel her moving around now knowing that she's a full baby in there.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@T.H.O.U.: well, when i got my e-ring, it was a 4.5 and it was huge. it was rolling around constantly. so i had it resized to a 4.25. But when it came time to order my wedding ring, I decided to get an eternity band, and it was only available in half sizes. Once i got it, i realized it doesn't really matter if the band spins around, because I don't notice it like i did with the e-ring (no center diamond). so they are a 1/4 size apart. If the e-ring was the bigger one, i'd just wear that, but i would really miss the e-ring if i just had the thin band. and yes, I realize this is a ridiculous thing to concern myself with right now, especially since I'm not a jewelry person to begin with! but i've grown so used to my rings, and I'd miss them!
@agold: i'm so glad it all worked out with going on your husband's insurance!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: They could be resized, but I'd prefer to lose the weight They technically still do fit on my finger now, but the slightest hint of heat swells my fingers enough that they get uncomfortable. I just don't want to chance it.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@pregnantbee: Nope. As of a few years ago they changed it to be 39 weeks.
http://www.marchofdimes.org/pregnancy/what-is-full-term.aspx
What are the new definitions?
The definitions are:
Early term: Your baby is born between 37 weeks, 0 days and 38 weeks, 6 days.
Full term: Your baby is born between 39 weeks, 0 days and 40 weeks, 6 days.
Late term: Your baby is born between 41 weeks, 0 days and 41 weeks, 6 days.
Postterm: Your baby is born after 42 weeks, 0 days.

@T.H.O.U.: What?!? I'm so out of the loop. I guess that happens when the last time I did this was 4 years ago.
Thanks for the info.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: oh i totally get it!
and yes, technically 37 weeks is now term but not full term. I still celebrate it it was a HUGE milestone getting baby to that time last time and we thought I'd be delivering at 37 weeks. but i made it to "full term" - 39 weeks!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: My head has been all "if I can just make it to 37 weeks, I'll be happy!" since I'm so uncomfortable this time. But now I feel like I should readjust my brain to 39 weeks! Ha!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: my doctor's goal with my first was 37 weeks, and the doctors all said there was a pretty good chance she'd avoid the NICU if she was born at 37 weeks depending on her weight. so in my head it's still the term number. but once i reached 37 weeks, they were like "well obviously 39 weeks is better!" and in my case since i was trying to get baby as big as possible, 39 weeks WAS better. But the lungs should be fully developed by 37 weeks, from what i understand.
I'm pretty much done at 26 weeks this time though, so 39 seems FARRRRR AWAY
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Pirouette: Yea I think its new research that shows that although physically baby can do really well at 37-39 weeks, there is a lot of brain development that happens in those last two weeks. Mixed with possible dating issues, I think they feel its better for everyone to mentally just try to aim for 39. With my first they were like sure we can induce anywhere around then, and with my second they were like, we can't even call the hospital to schedule until you even hit 39 weeks.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@T.H.O.U.: that makes sense. for me, they thought her falling off the %ile chart was possibly a problem with the placenta, so obviously if that was the case, getting her out at 37 weeks would've been optimal. Otherwise, I can't imagine that would have been recommended to me under normal circumstances. I do think that the discrepancy with dating plays a big role as well.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Pirouette: Yes, because without good dating, 37 weeks could really be like 35 weeks which is an issue.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: What do you mean when you/they say "mentally just try to aim for 39"? Do us pregnant girls have any control over when baby actually comes - mentally or otherwise?
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@agold: I think in the past, there was a lot of concern that moms said, I'm 37 weeks, full term and expected the baby to come any day and then disappointed each day after that. This was also a years ago when there were issues with elective c-sections and inductions which were not all medically necessary. So a mom being told, your baby is "full term" and done cooking at 37 weeks, was more likely mentally be ready to ask for a CS or induction much earlier.
To be clear, no I dont think your mental state has anything to do with when baby comes.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Got it. I actually know a girl who recently had a c-section a little bit on the early side because her doctor was going on vacation. I don't know if I ever thought about this kind of thing before I was pregnant but it sort of blew my mind. I want my baby to stay in and grow for as long as she needs to and can.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@agold: Yea I think they just wanted their policies to align. So if they dont want elective inductions and c-sections before 39 weeks because there is still development going on, then they needed to have consistent terms for moms that said 37 weeks isn't FULL term.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@agold: What @T.H.O.U.: said. If we're told that it's ok to have a baby anytime after 37 weeks, it becomes mentally draining every day after 37 that baby hasn't arrived yet. Mental state has nothing to do with when baby could/would actually arrive. I just know that now I have to mentally be ready to stick it out to 39 weeks if that's the new "term." The end of pregnancy is a giant mind game. You get uncomfortable. You end up being ready to have the baby. And each day that goes by without a baby can be tough. It's better to have expectations that baby will be born late and be surprised if early....than the other way around.
Make sense?
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@pregnantbee: Makes absolute sense. I'm already getting uncomfortable and I'm still comfortably wearing one of my regular non maternity jeans. I honestly can't imagine when I get too big for these jeans. Already today I found that sleeping on my stomach might be a problem. I LOVE sleeping on my stomach but this morning baby girl was kicking so much that I felt like maybe I was squishing her.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@agold: Haha, yup, there's still awhile yet. You could probably make a pillow belly nest to have more belly support and not feel like you're crushing baby girl.
clementine / 928 posts
@pregnantbee: not too worried! I have a growth scan next week at almost 31 weeks and she said it could be a number of things but they want to check the fluid levels and such. I was measuring right at 24 weeks at my 24w appointment so I was surprised at the 5 weeks ahead measurement! I'll update how it goes next week!

@Pirouette: my rings have been off for about a week! It's super humid right now in Tx!

@agold: lucky!! I stopped sleeping on my stomach around 20w! I can't wait to be able to do it again after birth, I hate side sleeping and now my hips are hurting on my right side so I only have one position that works
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@mrschickpea: My hips are hurting, too!! I like to try to sleep in a half side/half stomach position with my "top" leg propped up on a pillow. That's what I was doing this morning when baby girl started kicking like crazy. I will try again tomorrow and see if she accepts it.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@agold: @mrschickpea: I literally spend all night switching sides so my hips alternate hurting. Oh, the joys of pregnancy.
kiwi / 595 posts
@Pirouette: I've been out of my rings since the first tri- which is weird cause I didn't gain any weight then, but maybe all that extra fluid settled into my fingers?! Ive been wearing my husband's wedding band since then, but think I'll grow out of that in the next week or two. I have sausage fingers/hands, and he has long lean fingers, so we're only a 1/2 size apart in rings!
nectarine / 2461 posts
@T.H.O.U.: this is exactly what I did with my rings! they're both 4.5 and already only really fit well when I'm at my ideal weight (which I hardly ever am, duh) because I stupidly bought them right when I was wedding-skinny, but once I took the band off the diamond ring felt fine. For now @pregnantbee: told me a million years ago the horrors of having it get stuck, so when it starts to get hot and I gain 10 more pounds, I won't fool with it.
speaking of which @Pirouette: did you hear it's going to be 88 tomorrow?!! I was toying with the idea of ordering a full-size larger plain gold band and having it engraved with our fetus nickname.
@pwnstar: the salt is getting me puffy, too like in my face. but didn't you say that your first pregnancy you had problems with bloating on a pretty major scale? sounds like this one is going much better for you?
@agold: @MrsChickpea: I had to stop sleeping on my stomach (the best!) around 23 weeks. I bought a snoogle in the first tri which I really liked for a couple weeks when I was cramping a ton, then it was useless like weeks 12-26, and only in the last few days has it been *really* nice again. have yall thought about getting one?
nectarine / 2461 posts
@T.H.O.U.: PS the full term lesson is news to me and really interesting! thanks
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: haha that works out well!
@LCTBQE: ugh I'm gonna be such a cranky pregnant woman if it's a hot sticky summer! I can't handle the heat when I'm not pregnant. And I love that ring idea, I think it's adorable.
