@coopsmama: I'd always thought I wanted to be team green, but now that I'm faced with actually having to make the decision, I don't know! As for birth, I'd love to go med free! But is it possible to do without first spending tons of money on natural birthing classes?
@MrsRcCar: I'm so sorry to hear you have kidney issues while pregnant! That's such a crazy unfair thing. I do hope it doesn't cause you too much trouble, and also that your bleeding resolves.
@dcw6411: Oh gees. Crimes against children. Toughest spot ever, I can imagine. Bless him for doing it. That's crazy about the color of your progesterone pill! I think you should write to the pill maker. Good activity while on bed rest. And yes, I am on progesterone. Its a progesterone in oil shot that I take twice a day. I only have about 5 weeks left of it, thank god. I"m sure from what you described that what you are experiencing is the pill leftovers, and not more bleedings. Do you have any other reason to think that your bleeding is progressing?

@coopsmama: Oooooh good questions.
Team Green? Inkling? Preference? Last time we were TG, and while I loved the huge surprise at delivery, I think it added more stress than we needed to have during pregnancy. We needed 2 sets of names, neutral clothes, etc. Had trouble bonding in utero bc I just couldn't picture the baby. This time, we're finding out as soon as possible. No preference at all -- just a healthy baby. At this point, really no feeling at all about what it might be!
Delivery Thoughts: Last time, I had a fairly fast med-free labor and delivery. I'd probably aim for that again if possible. I haven't really started thinking about it yet because I just want to make sure the baby is ok and I get through the first tri. Ask us again in the 2nd tri

Oh my gosh this thread is SO active!!
We were TG with #1 but are going to find out this time We are 99.9% sure it's a boy. I just scheduled my appointment for my cell-free DNA testing, so we will find out then.
Birth plan - we also planned to go unmedicated last time, but LO didn't let that happen Went 17 hrs unmedicated before they realized I was only 1 cm dilated so basically induced me since my water had broken almost 24 hrs before. I felt lucky to not have a c-section under those circumstances! Anyway, we are definitely planning to try again

@MrsSCB: i could never be team green either! Mostly because we'd have to pick two names, one was hard enough last time!
@pregnantbee: i felt that finding out the sex and naming lo (which we did as soon as we found out the sex) really made me feel connected.
i was 100% certain my first was a boy - everyone was! And i wanted a boy. Shes a girl. I was sure that would mean i would feel pressure to have a boy this time since it's what we both originally wanted, but ever since meeting lo, we both kinda want another girl! I think it's a girl, but dont feel as strongly as last time.
i had a planned c section with my first because of iugr, and my doc had said at the time that id likely be a candidate for a vbac if my second measures on target, but im going to go for a repeat c section, mostly because i now live an hour away from the hospital and would need to make arrangements for lo, etc. Dh says if i want a vbac, we should switch doctors , and i love my doctor. I had an easy recovery and a great experience so im ok with another c section.

@coopsmama: we were TG last time and definitely will be again this time. It helps that it REALLY pisses my MIL off that we don't know!
I sorta have an inkling that it's a boy, just because so far my pregnancy is SO different than with my daughter. But, I'm not sure if I'm just projecting my hopes for a boy. Obviously, I'll be happy either way.
We went natural last time and that's the plan again. I'd love to do a home birth, but I'm AMA and saw an RE (once, but that's enough), and two midwives I've spoken to, can't take AMA or RE patients due to insurance. So we are deciding between hospital or birth center.

@coopsmama: Haha, I have to admit it's way more comfortable on my stomach. Though having them slip down is a pain.
TG - way too impatient! I also feel like I need to know so I can feel more connected. In some ways I feel like I'm just imaging being pregnant. I know that sounds crazy probably. I have very real symptoms. But idk if it's because I haven't had a dr confirmation, or that I don't have a big bump or what. It's so disconnected from what I remember pregnancy being. I know that once I have tangible knowledge like the sex I'll be able to bond/connect more.
I have a strong feeling that it's a girl, though I hate saying it in case I'm wrong! This pregnancy has just been so so different than with DS. I've also has morning sickness (that I never had with DS) and the heartbeat on the Doppler is higher than we ever saw with DS. At my appointment on Monday in going to ask the tech which side the placenta is on and apply the Ramzi theory.
Birth plan - I'm expecting to have a repeat c-section. I had an induction with DS and never dilated so I'm a bad candidate for a vbac. Of course if I go into labor naturally I'll try for it. I hated the epidural placement so I'd be open in that event to natural, but I'm not sure. Due to a bunch of factors my doctor won't let me go past 39 weeks though.

For those girls that did a med-free birth the first time around, did you do anything during your pregnancy to prepare for that?
pineapple / 12234 posts
@coopsmama: good Qs!
We will not be team green. I'm guessing the baby is a girl but this pregnancy is already easier than my girl pregnancies. I would love to have another boy to even out our family but I'd be happy with a girl too (especially since we've given away almost all our boy clothes and our nursery is already set up for a girl). I would love both equally so there would be no disappointment either way!
As far as labor and delivery, it's probably going to be fast. My last labor was 3 hours I plan to have an epidural if I get to the hospital in time haha.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
We were team green last time, and will be this time too. I really enjoy it! I have no idea about the sex. Didn't really last time, either.
I had planned to go med free last time. I ended up with a 45 hour labor because she was posterior and wouldn't descend. I got an epidural and small dose of pitocin after about 40 hours. I only pushed for 40 minutes. My doctor actually told me she thinks the epidural saved me from a c section. So, I'm much more open to its use as a tool during labor than I was before.
I am not going to have a "birth plan" this time, and will go into it open to whatever happens. I wouldn't get an epidural before 4cm, and will probably try to hold off as long as possible, but I'm totally okay with it in a way that I wasn't before, I just hope I don't have the baby in the car! That's my worry this time! Last time we were a mile from the hospital, this time it's a 40 minute drive.

For those of you that are team green for #2+, what do you do with all of your current LO's stuff? All of DS's old clothes and gear are in baby 2's room. We've got giant amounts of Rubbermaid containers full of clothes and stuff. I'm really anxious to deal with all of it, but what we do with it will depend on if it's a boy or a girl. I also want to buy white furniture if it's a girl, so there's tons of stuff I can't put away until we get a dresser. Stuff like that hanging over me makes me antsy and anxious.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@ShootingStar: we kept the nice clothes in boxes. Most of it was pretty gender neutral anyway. I sold/donated a ton of stuff and threw out anything with stains. We still have a ton of clothes though.
I do have to replace our diaper covers. The elastic is shot. So that will be an expense
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@ShootingStar: This is one reason I do want to find out this time! I'll finally know if I can get rid of all DS's baby clothes.....or not. HA. Sorry, I'm no help here.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@ShootingStar: I have the same "imagining the pregnancy" feeling. For me, I think it's the fact that with my first, I had already had 3 appts by 8 weeks, but this time my first appt is almost 10 weeks. So it isn't real yet and won't be for 3+ weeks. But also I feel like my symptoms are more mild, maybe because it's not the first time im feeling them?
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: haha yes, me too. I want to know if we can reuse her clothes or do a massive donation!
apricot / 382 posts
@agold: The only reason I am concerned it s progressing is because there is more of it and its more frequent.
@coopsmama: We are definitely going to find out, and we did with our first two as well. I think it helps with bonding but for this time, I just want to be able to tell DD to help her get excited. She already has her little brother so she is used to that but she has said she wants a sister too. I think it is a girl based on my nausea levels. Everyone else we have told says boy!
@ShootingStar: Since we had thought we were done with 2 we got rid of everything!! I literally re-sold all of our baby stuff. We completely have to start over. Oops! I don't blame you for wanting to go through everything. That stuff makes me antsy too, I just want to get it done!
@HLK208: 3 hours!! Wow!! That is fast! Eek, are you nervous for this one?
grapefruit / 4712 posts
We will be finding out. I would find out now if I could. This pregnancy is so different from my previous two. Perhaps this one is a girl. I love being a boy mom, however I think my mum will just go crazy if it's a girl. Plus I would be lying if I said I don't have any girl clothes hiding in the back of my boys closets. DH doesn't even know.
Anyone started to talk about names? DH won't even talk about it yet.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@dcw6411: a little bit but I don't mess around when I have real contractions! My whole body shakes and I go in as soon as they start, haha. Ah, I also sold everything from baby #3 so I need to repurchase too!
@Pirouette: I'm with you! I won't be seen until 10 weeks and it kind of makes me nervous since I'm not feeling as awful as I have with my previous pregnancies.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@pregnantbee: I know I think there will be just enough time to get to the hospital with this baby!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
So this is why I can't wear regular pants. By the end of the day this is my "bump" (mostly bloat). It's much smaller in the morning. I never had this kind of bloating with my first, and people didn't start guessing until I was 20 weeks along.
kiwi / 595 posts
@agold: we did Bradley Birth classes, it was $300 for 12 weeks of classes. I LOVED them, I learned so much. I also took prenatal yoga and downloaded the hypno birth app. I think Bradley helped me the most, but I know several moms who did NOTHING to prepare for natural, they were just determined and they did it.
@shootingstar- we kept all the gender neutral things we had for newborn, 0-3 and then saved our favorite/sentimental pieces from DD.
@Mrsrccar I started a name list in May before I m/c and I just looked at it again and hate all of those ideas! Haha! I have a favorite boys name, and nothing for girls, but haven't even started taking with DH. DD says we should name the baby "orangy" or "Pizza".

I've read all your responses but am too lazy to whip out my laptop and respond to you all individually but I loved reading the responses.
As for me, I'd be shocked if this is not a girl. The pregnancy so far has been near identical to my last (a girl!) and my first pregnancy was so wildly different from these two that that's why I'm leaning that way. I can't say I have a gender preference really, though. I'm excited for either. Honestly I would LOVE to have one more of both if I could choose but since fraternal twins are soooo unlikely I'll take whatever gender I get.
My first birth was a planned home birth and things went smoothly until I got to 9cm and DS would not descend! He was 9lbs 3oz and posterior and I had to transfer to the hospital after having contractions every minute for 10 hours. Worst experience ever! Thankfully they were able to help him out there without a c section but it was a 36 hour affair that was really traumatic and made me swear off more children altogether.
Then I got pregnant with my second and had to be induced at 42 weeks!! It was crazy since my first was only 4 days late and came naturally. My induction went so smoothly though and baby was out less than 4 hours from the time they started the pitocin but I would guess it was only painful for 2 hours total. I got an epidural at 9cm and it took just as I began to push - pretty much a dream labor!
I think this time, if I could choose anything, I'd have my dream unmedicated labor. I prepped so much for it with my first and his being posterior just didn't allow that to happen. And with my second I was so nervous about the induction I just admitted defeat on that front before it even began and it wasn't even that bad so I know I could have done without it. Since this might be our last baby, I'm going to try some hypnobirthhing strategies and see if I can get the epidural free birth. If I can't, no worries whatsoever - healthy baby and mama is the most important thing to me!

@OldpuebloJenn: We did Bradley with our first as well! I think it is valuable for anyone just to learn more about labor - even if the plan isn't for a natural birth!
@Silva: Love it!! Now I feel like I owe you all an end of day shot because mine yesterday was taken first thing in the morning before my bloat bump grew as they have a habit of doing throughout the day
pineapple / 12234 posts
@Silva: you are so cute!!! And yes, mine only gets absurdly large at night, haha. Did someone already guess?? I would still wouldn't guess if I saw you on the street!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Silva: You have an adorable bump!
@OldpuebloJenn: I've heard about Bradley classes. $300 is not bad for 12 weeks. I would love to do prenatal yoga, too. Did your husband go with you to the Bradley classes? I had always assumed I'd need expensive classes and a doula. I really don't want a doula. I will definitely look into a hypno birthing app!
@coopsmama: I think I will always take bump shots in the morning since I always like to weigh myself in the morning, first thing when I wake up, when I'm like basically dehydrated.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@coopsmama: I didn't know you had a VBAC! That's awesome (I'm not sure why I didn't know that - since I knew everything about M's birth!)
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@HLK208: not yet! I am a therapist (part time) so I sit with clients most of the time. And have been wearing giant scarves. I feel like it's super obvious, but I guess that's how it is with bumps.
I'm not telling anyone at work until we get the first tri screening stuff done. I also have to have a plan for my maternity leave/clients (I'm self employed)....and I don't have a clue yet.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@agold: um, first morning weight is totally the only weight that counts...right? (Because mine goes up by like 5 lbs later in the day!)
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Silva: cute bump!
We are definitely not Team Green. I wish I had that much patience but I really don't. Plus we're kinda hoping for a girl and if it is I plan to go pretty wild with the clothes shopping!
Aiming for an unmedicated birth this time as well. Last time I had to be induced but was able to go through without pain meds. This time I'm hoping to go into labor naturally. We took birthing classes the first time around which helped so much!!
kiwi / 595 posts
@agold: my husband came to every class! And 4 years later we still see the couples from our group! If you don't have an instructor near you, I think there's an online option. And @coopsmama is right, it's really great even if you aren't planning a natural birth. When I woke DH up to tell him I was in labor, he pulled out our notebook and reviewed it! His education was as beneficial as mine!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@MrsRcCar: we have a rule - no names discussion until we know the sex. That way we don't fall in love with a name we can't use!
@Silva: you are adorable!
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@HLK208: oh no! Maybe I didn't write that clear enough! I narrowly avoided one but didn't have one in the end - was close though, the OB on call came running in ready for surgery!
If I'd had a c section it wouldn't have been the end of the world but knowing how difficult recovery was already after 36 hours of hard labor I can't imagine having to heal from surgery as well! The mamas that do are truly amazing!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@Silva: love it! My bloating is insane in the evenings. I'm currently sitting at a basketball game after eating chicken and waffle sliders, fries and a cookie and my stomach just feels so full of air (and food, obviously, haha).
@MrsRcCar: there's a girl name we've loved for a few years. DH keeps referring to the baby by that name! For a boy, we have a possible middle (my grandfather's name) but not sure. I don't think we'll discuss too in depth before finding out the sex, but I'll probably research.
clementine / 928 posts
@coopsmama: Team Green here
No real preference though my intuition (and apparently the Chinese gender predictor) says girl.
Hoping to go med-free but won't have a specific birth plan. The OB and hospital we chose practice certain things were looking for as a general rule (I.E.: kangaroo care, delayed cord clamping, bonding hour, no inductions unless necessary, and super low c section rates). I'm not opposed to an epidural if needed
grapefruit / 4712 posts
I had medicated births with both of my boys. I plan to do it this time even though I had complications both times. I will be watched closely because my left hip commonly pops out of socket. It is extremely painful so meds are a must. We do plan to do delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin, and rooming in. All assuming that the baby is healthy. I am just hoping to bake this baby long enough to not need NICU assistance.
