August 2016 moms!

    Team Green? Inkling? Preference? I hope to find out the sex as soon as possible! We found out at 16 weeks with LO, and I'm really glad that we did. I was CONVINCED I was having a boy, and was rattled for a few seconds when I found out LO was a girl (I had a tough relationship with my mom growing up, and was afraid if I had a daughter it would, for whatever reason, be just as difficult). Now that I have her, I can't imagine it being any other way, and I would love to have 10 more just like her (although this is definitely it for us. I'm AMA, and don't want to push the envelope any further in terms of risk factors . . . not to mention that pregnancy is really hard on my body and my career). I have an inkling this LO is a girl too (DH would be thrilled with another girl, and so would I), and 2 of my good friends are convinced it's a girl. Of course we would be just as excited about a boy. Although it's easier for me to be excited about a girl because I have one and know how awesome it is, if that makes sense. But it's for that same reason that I know I will be equally ecstatic if we find out it's a boy. I can't wait to find out!

    Delivery Thoughts: I was induced with LO due to complications, and it was a long, difficult experience. The TL/DR version: DD was posterior, I didn't make any progress for over 24 hours after the pitocin was started (and 2 rounds of cervadil and foley bulbs, too), and the epidural never really took (it settled on one side, and had worn off by the time I was pushing). I also had a massive hemorrhage. It was not a positive experience at all. But. The only thing I am really hoping for this time is a more even epidural! Well. That and not almost dying at the end. Outside of that, I'm just gonna roll with it and do everything I can to make sure baby is healthy and that I am healthy too.

    @pwnstar: you pretty much explained exactly how i feel about boy v. girl. We found out at 16 weeks with 99% certainty and i still refused to believe it wasn't a boy until it was confirmed again at 20 weeks! And yet, now, i know how awesome girls are so i want another, even though i know I'd be thrilled with one of each.

    Tums!! Oh my goodness I just had to share that tums are changing my life! How did I never know about tums for nausea relief?! I'm living again ladies and it feels great!! For any of you still suffering, do give it a go!

    @pwnstar: it's the first time I'm thinking of gender like this! We really want a girl because we don't have one and I personally really want a mother daughter relationship, maybe because my mom is my best friend. But, our son is SO loving and adorable and we keep saying that we hope the new baby is loving also. I fell asleep last night with DS (20 mnths) caressing my cheek and often wake up to cheek to cheek rubs and kisses. Another boy like that would be awesome too! Thanks for the perspective - I think you just gave me special insight to avoid gender disappointment regardless of which we're having.

    Still spotting over here. 😩 DH will be home tonight and all weekend so he can take over care duties of our boys. Hopefully it resolves this weekend. I am just so over this.

    @Glitter: @coopsmama: The doctors office seems sure that it is just the hematoma causing the intermittent spotting. We have been shut in all week and my boys are going stir crazy. We are generally very active outside the house. Plus my butt and back hurt from resting up so much. I just want everything to be ok.

    @MrsRcCar: Have you told/updated your Doc that the bleeding/spotting is ongoing? I would imagine they would want to see you right away, especially since you're high risk.

    @Glitter: I'm glad it helped! And I'm so glad you're getting some relief from the nausea!

    @Silva: Your bump is adorable!

    @pwnstar: I saw them yesterday. They said as long as it doesn't get worse I just need to take it easy. So we have been doing A LOT of screen time this week, that way I can just keep my feet up and rest. I am really looking forward to DH being home this weekend to help me with the boys.

    @MrsRcCar: You're not the only one doing a lot of screen time! We have 3 ft of snow so my kids refuse to go outside and I've been feeling so crummy what with morning sickness that we've been in a LOT the last couple weeks and oh my goodness have had way too much tv time.

    Quite honestly I think it's just survival mode during times like these!

    @MrsRcCar: sending you good thoughts, I hope the spotting quits asap!!

    Guys, I am at the end of my rope with my apartment complex. We have these insane downstairs neighbors who apparently think we're really noisy. They have complained to the leasing office numerous times about such things as us "rolling our suitcases across the floor" -- as in one time, across the 15 feet from the door to the bedroom when we got home from vacation, or "stomping around in the middle of the night." I got another email from the office saying they complained about us "stomping at 4:50 and 6:50 AM last night." I do have insomnia, and I was awake at both those times. I may have gone to the bathroom. But since they've complained so much, I literally tiptoe, on the balls of my feet, if I get up in the middle of the night. And I am a tiny person -- how much noise could I possibly make?! This is giving me so much anxiety at this point, I literally cringe if I accidentally drop something on the floor. I just don't even know what to do about it. Ugh. Sorry, I just needed to get that out. I am so frustrated and it's making my living situation really unpleasant and stressful.

  14. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

    @MrsSCB: wow I can't imagine how light movement could cause such a disturbance... but then again ive never lived in a downstairs apartment. Have you spoken to your neighbours directly about it?

  15. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

    @Glitter: No, they've just gone to the leasing office directly. Or banged on the ceiling/our floor with a broom Like one time they banged on it at 6:30 AM when we were both in bed! They've never once tried to talk to us, so I don't even know what they look like. At this point, I feel like they're a bit unhinged and I'm almost afraid to try to talk to them directly...

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

    @coopsmama: You can keep all that snow! I don't blame you for the screen time either. It rained here this morning.
    @MrsSCB: I am hoping it ends soon too. I am the downstairs neighbor in an apartment. I swear there are elephants that live above us! The other night the women upstairs decided to vacuum at 10:30pm. I was not pleased at all. I hate this complex, but I haven't found another place to move into yet.

  17. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

    @MrsSCB: that sounds beyond frustrating! i mean, how much more can you do? do you have carpet or rugs? what does the leasing office say? if they are hearing such minimal movement from you guys, i'd have to guess this is a problem with other units as well.

  18. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

    @Pirouette: We do have carpet in the bedroom (which is where I would be at 4-6 am). I'm a bit frustrated with the leasing office. They called me on the phone two nights ago to say our neighbors said we were stomping around in the middle of the night. I sent them a long email yesterday morning to say we tiptoe around our apartment if we are up at all at a late hour, we are going above and beyond to be quiet and conscientious, and the noise complaints have become such a source of anxiety that I literally cringe if I accidentally drop something on the floor at any time of day. Then I just get an email this morning with another complaint, and the leasing office said, "If indeed it is just heavy walking causing the disturbance, all we can ask if that you are aware and conscious of the way that you walk around your apartment home during quiet hours." I feel like they aren't even listening! I already told them I walk very quietly, barefoot, on carpet, and I only weigh 120 pounds -- how much noise could I make?! At this point I just feel like I'm being harassed by these people into unreasonable actions. I wish we could just leave, but ughhhh the idea of moving all our stuff AGAIN after just five months is pretty unbearable.

    @MrsRcCar: ugh, vacuuming that late is just rude! If I have to vacuum on a weekday, I do it as soon as I get home from work (around 5:30.) Plus I hate vacuuming so I just want to get it out of the way

  19. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

    @MrsSCB: i don't even know what to say! what a bizarre situation - it sounds like they must be insomniacs as well and just sit there listening for noises all night while they can't sleep. honestly, i think you need to find a way to not let it bother you. you are doing everything you can to be polite. so just go about your life. don't tiptoe, just don't stomp (obviously). If the leasing office says that's all you can do, then I think you need to just not let it get to you and live your life. Eventually they will realize that there's nothing that can be done and just get over it! if it bothers them enough, maybe THEY will move

  20. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

    @Pirouette: my Dh is so good at being like, "They're unreasonable, so I don't even care." I need to get better at that...I know this whole thing is ridiculous, but I'm such a people-pleaser it makes me feel stressed all the same. I need to practice my zen attitude... And I do hope they move!

    @MrsRcCar: I'm so sorry you are still spotting. I'm still spotting, too. It's actually just like bleeding brown. It hasn't lessened at all since I was put on bed rest and has even increased a bit. So frustrating. I hope this ends for both of us soon.

    @MrsSCB: Oh no! I'm so sorry about your apartment troubles. My sister is tiny, but she's walks hard on her heels so she can always be heard on different floors. But its crazy for your neighbors to complain so much. This is just part of living in an apartment that they have to deal with. I live in a townhome with people on both sides of me and I don't complain to them about the stuff I hear. I just make plans to move to a home without shared walls. I hope your neighbors lighten up soon.

    @MrsSCB: Fwiw, your conscience should be clear. You know that you are doing everything possible to eliminate/minimize noise. You mention you have been there five months? I would be curious to know whether the neighbors made similar complaints about the previous tenants in your unit . . . (!)

    @MrsRcCar: @agold: I hope it gets better for both of you!

    Gosh, I can barely keep up! So many TG in this group! I think July also has a ton. As I said before, we did that last time, and I really really want to find out this time for name/bonding/telling DS purposes.

    @agold: I'm going to answer your question about prepping for a med-free birth. I wasn't sure I was going to go for that. I went in with an open mind. My insurance/medical practice gives free birth classes. So DH and I took one about birth techniques called "Tools to Active Birth" -- a one-time 3-hr class on a Saturday. After that class, I knew so many more options other than just lay on your back in bed, and it was really helpful to be able to try different things until it stopped working. Then you switch to another thing. The class was also great because we met another couple and clicked! Their son was born a week before ours, and we've hung out ever since. So I'd recommend an in-person class if you can. Usually the people going are due in a similar range.

    The medical practice is large, and I could have had any one of 16 doctors on delivery day, and I only have appointments with my own OB and never meet any of the others throughout pregnancy! So, in the 2nd tri, we also hired a doula because DH and I wanted to have someone advocate for us who we would know ahead of time. I ended up laboring at home through most of active labor, so the doula only met us at the hospital. She was helpful in the L&D room. DH wants to hire one again just for his peace of mind. I'm not opposed if it will help him feel better, but I'm also not sure it's essential.

    I hope that helps answer your question?

    @MrsRcCar: No discussion yet about names. We had fairly short lists last time around -- was nearly impossible to find a boy name we both loved. I figure we'll start talking about it again once we know a) baby is healthy and b) what we're having. I LOVE that you have a secret stash of girl clothes!

    I'm sorry you're still spotting, but thrilled DH will be home this w/e. Hang in there and let me know if there's anything I can send your way to help.

    @silva: Gorgeous bump!

    @glitter: You and your family are GORGEOUS. Saw your pic on the other thread about whether LO looks like either of you. I think there's a little mix in there I'm so glad you've found something that's working to ease the nausea. I love, LOVE being a boy mom. I'd be lying if a little part of me didn't want a girl -- manis! pedis! bows! braids! bonding! -- but then I think about how I was as a teenager and then shudder in fear! I'm hoping my sweet boy turns into a kind and caring young man. All this to say I'd be thrilled with another boy, too! Think about all the re-use of clothing

    @MrsSCB: UGH. Apartment living sucks sometimes. Didn't someone else on HB just post something about crappy noisy neighbors? You sound completely opposite of them. Are your downstairs neighbors expecting you to float? Zipline from your bed to the bathroom? Dude. You're light. You're pregnant. You will need to pee. Jerks. You may need to just become more zen about not letting it get to you, especially since you're already doing what the office wants. As @Pirouette: said, maybe THEY'LL move

    How's everyone else doing? @dcw6411: ?

    @MrsRcCar: @agold: I am so sorry you girls are still spotting. I am too In fact it has increased significantly, and today my stomach feels tight again and I have been experiencing some cramping. I will say some prayers for both of you that the spotting subsides over the weekend and things get better.

    @pregnantbee: Thank you for checking on me. I appreciate it! Unfortunately my bleeding is increasing and I am having some light cramping. It hasn't turned bright red and there are not clots yet, so I am still praying for another miracle.

    @pwnstar: Thanks for your comment!

    @pregnantbee: Wow! Thanks for all of that information. That's amazing your insurance offered a free class. I'm going to have to call my insurance soon to find out what I can take advantage of. Its so great you and your husband met a couple that you both like at the class. I always think that new great friends are worth their weight in gold. I'm sure I could get my husband to go to a few classes. I just need to find the time myself! (speaking of which.. my work is not cooperating with my attempt to work from home. oh how i'm ready to retire and be a stay at home mom.) And I absolutely think it makes sense why you wanted a doula with the possibility of getting a doctor you didn't know. Lastly, you are on fleek with those sweaters! Keep it up!

    I wore what felt like a moomoo to barre3 today cause the bump is super obvious (to me) in leggings. Luckily we are going through a cold spell (for the desert, it's in the 40s) so I can pull out all my sweaters and scarves!
