@agold: it's more that there's always a chance. And really I also couldn't wait for them to look at organ development even though it's still early. Just wanted some reassurance before telling those closest to me.

@pregnantbee: I always tend to worry about all those things there's a chance for. But there's so much you can't even test for during pregnancy. I'd just be so excited that your ultrasound looked great! Who are you going to tell first? Do you have a big reveal planned?

@pregnantbee: So happy to hear this news! I'm thrilled you get to reveal your exciting baby need to family and friends now. That's always such a special time!

I'm AMA so very much looking forward to genetic testing coming back okay! Much higher risk for Downs over here
@pregnantbee: Congrats!!

@pregnantbee: Congrats, sounds like it went great!
@JoJoGirl: Did you already get blood taken for the test? Or when will you do that? Sorry you're feeling anxious! FWIW, my mom had me at 42 and my sister at 45 and all went perfectly smoothly

Question: I feel like I might be getting a UTI Is this something I should contact my OB's office about, or just my regular primary care doctor?
pear / 1718 posts
@JoJoGirl: AMA here too. We are waiting to tell anyone about the pregnancy (with a few exceptions!) until all of the genetic testing comes back clear. I have my first tri blood screens tomorrow, and will schedule a CVS tomorrow too.
@MrsSCB: My grandmother had her fourth child at 42 (in 1952!), and he was perfectly healthy too. *fx*

@MrsSCB: Not til a week from Thursday! Also waiting til that appointment to hear the hb on doppler for the first time!

@agold: Thank you. I told a local friend today and when we pick him up later, we'll tell DS. Then I hope we can reach all of our closest family members who all live at a distance. So excited. I think we'll have DS wear a big brother shirt and tell him that he is getting a baby sister. All hinges on how he takes the news!
@coopsmama: Thank you. I was so relieved.
@JoJoGirl: I'm also AMA so I was thrilled about the results.
@MrsSCB: Thank you! Phew. Hmm I'd probably contact your OB? And ouch, sorry!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@MrsSCB: I would contact your OB. Ever since I started TTC, my OB is basically the only doctor I go to anymore.

@ShootingStar: I have an appt Wednesday and may ask them about options for meds. I'm so over parenting two young toddlers while trying to maintain my sanity and my health due to this morning sickness haha. But then I have good days and wonder if it's even worth it! It's so hard to know what to do and what is best when you don't know when the sickness will end.
That said, I am most thankful for a healthy baby so enduring the sickness is nothing in light of the fact that all signs (from our first ultrasound) currently point to everything going well. So I'm trying to focus on that and be grateful for the pregnancy even though the symptoms can be so rough!

@pregnantbee: we had to do a lot of explaining to my daughter to help her "get it." Like we talked about how she could hold the baby, feed it, etc. then she started asking questions about what the baby would play with, etc.
When we just said "we are going to have a baby" she kind of ignored us she was interested in seeing the ultrasound pics, and my belly though!
I'm already freaking out about labor going fast this time. Mine was crazy long with my daughter, but she was posterior. Once she turned, I went from like 5 cm to 10 in maybe 1-2 hours, and only pushed for 40 minutes.
My parents will come stay with our daughter, but they live an hour away, and we are 40 minutes from the hospital.
I also don't trust myself to know how quickly I need to move, because it took so long to get going last time! I mean, I had regular and painful contractions for days.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Silva: Oh my gosh. I can't even imagine thinking about labor right now, but I have thought about it a couple of times! Did you get an epidural last time? Is the 40 minute distance that you are away from the hospital dependent upon traffic conditions?
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@agold: Thank you! Just trying to keep on keeping on like we all are.
@Silva: I'm nervous about this, too. My first baby was posterior and 36 hours long. My second labor was about 3 hours from first real contraction but wasn't painful until the last hour and a half! My parents also live an hour away! Worst case, I can be admitted to hospital without my husband while he stays back with the kids in the car and waits for them or something. I wish we were close to our neighbors but we just moved here last year and none of our neighbors are super friendly on our street. I have friends in our city but of course it's hard to coordinate availability!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@agold: I did get an epidural, and it's what sped things along! Once my body relaxed, she turned around. There can be some traffic, but the hospital is pretty close to the interstate exit, so the worst it could be (barring a bad accident, I guess) would be morning commuting time, and that *might* add 10 minutes. But we don't live in a major metropolitan area, so traffic is rarely that bad.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@coopsmama: yeah, I guess worst case is we'd just bring my daughter to the hospital and have my parents meet us there. My husband is in residency at the hospital now, so we might be able to have her sit with an administrative assistant he knows in the peds dept or something. We just moved to this town, so we don't know anyone locally who could come wait with her for my parents.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
My mom did say, to ease my fears, she would come as soon as I had my first contraction and just hang out until we had to leave, so that's a little reassuring I guess. Could be an interesting ride to the hospital. My husband is a pediatrician, so if I have the baby on the side of the road he might be semi-useful

@agold: I hope so!
@Silva: I'm sure we'll have to explain things to make it real. I also bought him a baby girl doll to give him on this occasion. We'll see what happens. Fast labor once she turned! My labor was 11 hrs start to finish, so I'm wondering how fast it will go this time. We have no family local, so I also have no idea who will take care of our son once the time comes. Will have to brainstorm some ideas!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Silva: Wow, so that was an interesting benefit that came with the epidural. I hadn't thought, but can certainly imagine that there would be good benefit to your body relaxing during labor.

@pregnantbee: omg i am so happy you had an awesome scan and cant wait for you to tell your son! So exciting! Im dying over here - my lo is talking nonstop about how shes gonna have a baby sister. She told me yesterday she was going to make her baby sister pasta and play with all her toys. Where does she get this stuff??? We have been so careful and i have never said a word about a baby in front of her!

Is anyone else feeling less exhausted now that we are deeper into the first trimester? I've just realized that yesterday I only napped for about an hour and today maybe a half hour before waking up with energy! And I've been going to bed more at my normal time. So despite the nausea - that's getting better! Hooray!

@pregnantbee: Hooray for a great scan!!
I know this pregnancy is over for me but I can't wait to see how things work out for all you wonderful ladies and look forward to "meeting" your babies when they arrive.

@coopsmama: I did just realize today that I slept better last night and I haven't taken a nap today! I'm hoping this is an upward trend for me. While I'm happy to nap all day, I do actually have to work..
@MrsRcCar: You are sweet. I'm always thinking of you.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pwnstar: @pwnstar: @agold: thanks, will call my OB tomorrow. I'm sure it won't be too hard to make a quick pee-in-a-cup appointment
@MrsRcCar: thank you, been thinking of you today. I hope your recovery goes very smoothly

I can't tag everyone because I'm on my phone, but I will make sure to do it next time I'm at my computer. Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes! It means so much!!! The bleeding did stop by early this morning. It started again (very lightly) with a little cramping a couple of hours ago. I'm now on bed rest (except for taking my daughter to/from school) for the next few days.
I hope all of those who are still having nausea find some relief soon!
@pregnantbee: I'm so glad it went well!!!

@MrsRcCar: i hope everything went ok today and that you are feeling as good as you could possibly feel under the circumstances and i hope your kids are little angels for you when dh goes back to work. i am thinking of you and sending you love!

@Pirouette: Thank you so much. It's amazing that your LO is talking about it so much...yet you haven't told her! We finally told DS this evening, and it went over pretty well. I'm not sure how much he truly understands, but he seems excited!
@MrsRcCar: You are so sweet. Thank you for cheering me on. I saw on your other thread that you're doing ok. I hope every day gets physically and emotionally easier for you.
@coopsmama: Maybe a little less exhausted? I've still napped or attempted to nap every day I'm not working. But I haven't wanted to nap AT work in awhile
@HLK208: Me, too. Thanks!
@CoffeeMom: So glad to hear the bleeding stopped at least for a bit. I hope more rest helps!
We finally told our son, parents, my sister and a couple other close family members tonight. It was so fun to see and hear their reactions! Most were shocked that we're having another at all, and having a GIRL was the kicker. DS was great. I'm truly not sure how much he understands (he is 3.5), but I think he's taking it all in. He asked challenging, yet relevant questions, such as "How will you know when she is ready to come out?" and "How does she eat now?"
So I feel like I'm hanging out this far ahead by myself -- I guess that's what happens when I'm due really at the end of July but wanted to hang with you ladies. I can't wait for more of us to get genetic tests and scans, etc.

@pregnantbee: I absolutely adore your son's questions. That is so sweet. (It reminded me of my son tonight. I was lying on his bed reading to him and he touched my little baby bump and said, "cool baby belly, mama." Melted my heart. I'm happy your big reveal went well - how exciting for all those that found out.

@pregnantbee: eeeeek!!! So exciting to tell everyone!! And your DS (I know his name but I won't say it lol) is the sweetest!!

@pregnantbee: Ok, so adorable! I love the questions your DS asked!!! So cute! I'm close behind you... I hopefully find out boy or girl at our NT scan Monday. Eeek! We are cautiously excited. I really seem to have grown belly wise this week so I am thinking that means baby is still cooking in there.
@coopsmama: Your DS too.. so cute! My DH said, "wow mom, your stomach is getting big." Lol. Got to love that honesty!
